We had great breakfast here 3 times during our stay in Charleston. It opens early and was right around the corner from our accommodations so very convenient. Our server, KC, was professional and fun! I had the classic breakfast. Perfect soft scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, delicious home fries, and a huge biscuit. Husband had the shrimp and grits with fried flounder and said it was fantastic. Trash service. Walked in this morning and the terrible server just looked at me and said "we're closed". The sign on the door says 6am. You're in operating hours. She said yea well, what can you do. Wtf kind of response is that? Toast has a reputation in CHS and you would think they would want to improve it with the local population. In a city where places to eat are a dime a dozen, it would suit them to treat customers that would spend money there a little better. For trash service like this, I have absolutely zero incentive to return. The food is basic breakfast food. Every place in a mile radius that does breakfast, does it better than Toast. Their opening hours was the only reason I stopped in. Millers, Poogans, Husk and Iron Rose around the corner all do breakfast better and give you better customer service. A few minute walk down Queen and you hit The Cooper which is great coffee and bites. Hell, I've gotten better service at Waffle Home and it's way cheaper. Toast is trash. read more

We are here Thursday morning and got sat right away. We tried to different Bloody Mary's and they were good and had their own unique flavors to them. The bacon had a nice "candy" flavor to it that when you took a bite from it, it was sweet but yet spicy from the bloody. The New Orleans Beignets are a must! They are a local favorite and we could see why. I would highly recommend getting one (or two) to start your meal off. The crab cake Benny was ok. Still tasted good just not my cup of tea. The crab cake was a little too "thick" for my liking but overall it was still a good dish. The peach stuffed French toast was also good. If you order it be aware that it is a large piece of bread. First, this place came highly recommended by a friend, so when I arrived and had the experience I did, I was greatly disappointed. My party of seven arrived early morning. The restaurant was empty, so we were seated quickly. Our server was nice and took our drink order to allow time to browse the menu. I went with the pancakes based off pictures I had seen. After a long wait, our food finally came to the table. My food was cold and the only reason I didn't ask for it to be remade was because of time. One co-worker's food came out after everyone else's and she gave me her single pancake. At least it came out hot, right off the griddle. There was no butter and I had to ask for syrup. About the best thing going was the fresh squeezed orange juice. Definitely not the restaurant's best showing. Biscuits were yummy. Our table service was good but host service was sub par. They tried squeezing our group of seven on a six top table. Thankfully the couple next to us offered to shift one table down to give us more room. Toast has been a long-time favorite breakfast spot in Charleston. They recently (October 2025) changed locations, but only by about one block. Breakfast choices are excellent. The beignets a very tasty starter. All the portions are large. If you opt for a homemade biscuit, it is the size of all small cake. I don't usually opt for scrambled eggs when eating out, but these were really good. Our server was super friendly, and service was great. It gets busy on the weekends, so try and sneak in during the week if you can. read more

First time visiting in Charleston and stopped by Toast for breakfast. We had the fried green tomatoes which were amazing! We also ordered the peach stuffed French toast and the blue crab and shrimp omelette. Both were very delicious. The omelette came with oven fried potatoes and we added fried onions and green peppers. Everything was so delicious! Service was excellent and our server was very friendly. It wasn't crowded and the restaurant was very clean. Unfortunately, this restaurant was not off to a great start by the cleanliness of it. The tables and floors were sticky, stained, and dirty. The bathrooms were not very pleasant. Menus were dirty. The cleanliness of a restaurant is extremely important and should exceed standards, but Toast didn't even meet a standard for cleanliness in my opinion. The food was okay. Neither of us loved the eggs. The waffle was very good but I am surprised how little strawberries it came with. I don't know that I'd return here unless they got better about their cleanliness standards. Although, our servers were fantastic. Extremely kind and had great customer service. Overall okay brunch experience here - we had to wait for a table even in the late afternoon showing how busy this spot can get. We just walked around the area and returned in time for our table without many issues. The menu had a good selection of brunch and lunch items. I ended up ordering a po boy sandwich which unfortunately was very disappointing - definitely opt to get a brunch item, the folks at my table who got your typical eggs or hash items were much better. Drinks were okay at least. The table was a bit sticky which made the ambiance not great. The decor otherwise made it feel a bit homey and rustic, but no other real comments. Service was okay, food came out a bit slow but we weren't in a rush or anything so no big deal. A good Southern breakfast is an amazing thing and the food here is great. Not everything was wonderful but I'll start with the good stuff. I got the Surf and Turf breakfast, which can easily feed two people. It comes with 8 oz steak (seasoned well and very tasty), grilled shrimp, potatoes and eggs and a biscuit. The biscuit I had here was huge but it had the fluffy texture I really enjoy and didn't feel like I was eating a paperweight. I recommend this as a place to get biscuits. Loved the home fries and eggs and the shrimp and steak were lovely. Service was also terrific..friendly and efficient. They really ran the place like clockwork. The only negative is the noise. Depending on where you're sitting and who is sitting around you, it can be deafening and make it a terrible experience. We were in a confined area with four large tables and a low ceiling and it was deafening. When you're surrounded by folks with high pitched voices, screaming to be heard over one another it gets shrill very fast. Add in bloody marys or mimosas and the level increases exponentially. We had to leave early because it the noise was so piercing. I can't imagine coming here with a hangover...your head would likely explode. If you can sit somewhere away from loud tables or if you take your food to go, this place is can't miss! read more

Stopped here for lunch on a recent trip to Charleston after a friend recommended it. The standout item was definitely the she-crab soup ($8.95) -- rich, flavorful, and worth coming back for. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was underwhelming. The Caesar salad ($21.95) was just average and didn't feel worth the price. I also tried their "famous" Bloody Mary ($14), but it didn't live up to the hype -- not bad, just nothing memorable. My friend had the Fried green tomatoes and liked that very much! Stop in here with my girlfriend (gals trip) and had a wonderful breakfast. The home fries with the works (grilled onions, peppers and cheese) are very good and the serving is very very large. The benny Benedict with spinach was savory and fully enjoyed. Biscuits are home made and top of their class. I did not rate this a 5 star because the booth we were at was very uncomfortable. They could have separated the two tables, but chose not to. Stopped in for breakfast on April 7, 2026. We got Beignet to start with and they were delicious. We also got a crab and shrimp omelet and it was delicious and we also got the ham, cheese and bacon omelet. It was basic and fine, not a must get again omelet. The potatoes were delicious. The biscuits was big and delicious but not warm and unfortunately small packs of cold butter were provided so between the cold biscuit and butter, nothing was going to melt. The Snickerdoodle latte was delicious and served in a typical latte mug that cooled down quickly. My husband got a Nutella latte half sweet and it was good. Our waitress was friendly. The one issue we had was the bathroom was dirty. Toilet paper on the floor and the hand towels were empty so you couldn't dry your hands. Also, it smelled like urine. Whoever is cleaning the bathroom needs to step it up, use disinfectant and be sure to clean around the base where urine collects when men miss their aim. I told the woman behind the bar the bathroom needed attending and she looked uninterested. It was only 10:00 a.m. so the bathroom should have still been clean.
