Really excellent. Our team of 9 celebrated the last day of our offsite with a dinner at the Gabrielle. We had the semi-private room and were treated like royalty - our dedicated waiter was fun and knowledgeable, and when the food came out multiple servers appeared simultaneously, like synchronized swimmers, swooping in over our right shoulders with our respective dishes. Wine was great, cocktails on point and every dish from the freshly-made cornbread and salted butter on up was incredible. Collectively we ate most things on the menu, and don't have bad thing to say about anything. Gabrielle Restaurant in the Hotel Bennett. Grilled octopus, Beet salad, pork chops, pasta, lobster macaroni and cheese and tuna steak. All was very good despite the amount of time it took to cook. Of course we are used to being downtown without the kids so time is nothing we generally care about. But, 90 minutes to bring out meals is a-little over the top - especially when it's not busy. And, my in-laws are here visiting as guests in the hotel. Restaurant aside, the hotel itself has so many tweaks that will hopefully be ironed out. The front desk was working in the right direction to make sure everything would be ironed out. The food was good; but I have had better. I had the scallops special with a side of spicy broccolini. It was little too spicy and over powered the broccolini. I think it was over priced for what we got. The environment; however, was gorgeous! Visited Gabrielle for dinner tonight to celebrate my son's birthday. The dining room is beautifully decorated and inviting. This is where the good stuff ends. When making the reservation I asked for a bottle of champagne to be at the table when we arrived. No champagne. No mention of it. I decided to let it go and order drinks instead. They were out of bourbon . Okay, no big deal. The boys chose something else. I ordered tonic water and lemon which the server got wrong. She apologized and brought another, yet again it was wrong. I let it go. For the price of the food here, I expect it to be delicious and the service impeccable. Neither was true. The pork chop was undercooked, almost raw. The tuna was cooked well but had no taste. My son's filet Mignon was overcooked. The lobster Mac and cheese was the best part, it was delicious. The several servers we had were all nice. That's all I can really say about them. They were nice. I will not be back. Gabrielle's is all fluff and no substance. The fluff is certainly not worth the prices they charge. read more

Dined at Gabrielle for an office holiday lunch and enjoyed the experience. The dining room is lovely, with comfortable chairs and high ceilings, but it doesn't feel stuffy at all. The staff were excellent, accommodating and friendly and professional. I ordered the blue crab croissant with fries, and it was okay. The fries were nice, though unseasoned, even lacking salt. The crab was surprisingly bland, and there was not even a hint of lemon from the lemon aioli. The croissant, apparently made in-house, was honestly nothing special. Entree - Shrimp Burger - I have never had a shrimp burger to compare but i cant imagine a better one. The lemon aioli paired perfectly with the burger. This is a must have when you come here. Went there for Valentine's dinner. Very excited as we had walked by numerous times and it looked so classy and elegant. Reservation made weeks in advance but was lost somehow upon arrival. After waiting, we were led to a table in the back corner--the tables are so wide that you're sitting more than arms length across from your dinner companion. Waited 45 minutes for our drinks--the server checked on them twice and said the bartender had not gotten to them yet. After voicing our displeasure at the wait (food came before drinks at this point), the manager came over and said the drinks had been waiting for 15 minutes and tried to blame the server. Also said he would comp our drinks due to the wait. Food was good but very tiny portions--took "small plate"'to a new level. Long wait between courses. Went to pay the bill and a large party gratuity of 20% had been added to the check (do 2 people constitute a large party these days?) and no comped drinks. Overall, a very disappointing experience that I will not repeat. Charleston is a foodie city--amazing restaurants everywhere you turn. This is one to turn AWAY from. Now that we can enjoy the incredible ambiance of the indoor dining space at Gabrielle and the Hotel Bennet I felt an update was in order. Elegant and refined space with the true ability to talk to one another (harder to find than it should be!). Great lighting and changing seasonal decor makes for wonderful photos as well. Service by JD and maitre d' was spot on. Never rushed or overly conversational. Great wine list (some amazing Pinot from Williamette Valley). High point of food choices were the crab cakes , truffle frites w lemon aioli, and risotto with shrimp added on. Chef trying a new bread service- I missed the baguette but everyone else asked for more of those corn muffins. If you have a special occasion to celebrate- I love this place. It will not be cheap. They offer both indoor & outdoor seating options . The dining terrace overlooks Marion Square and is the perfect spot to take in the sunset on a cool Summer evening. I would credit this to inattentive server as our drinks were hard to get refilled and with only three other tables, our food should've come out quickly and if not quickly, at least it should've come out hot. It really is a beautiful hotel and they have a wonderful facility for lunch but the menus limited, and after three visits for lunch it's likely you might run out of things that interest you to eat:-) My suggestion for you is TRAINING. No excuse for poor service, long wait and cold food. We had dinner here when on our first night at Hotel Bennett. At the end of a long travel day, I would have thought we would have loved anything and everything we were served. My gnocchi was tasty... yet drowning in sauce which made the butter flavor overwhelming. While in town, we stayed at the hotel Bennett. This is the restaurant within the hotel and this where we had breakfast every morning. It was tasty, but know there is a 20% fee for room service in addition to other random charges. I knew there would be some additional charges but wasn't expecting $20+ in fees when that's how much the food itself was. Now on to the food, the best things we had for breakfast were the avocado toast, which was a good portion! Next, the French toast that was cooked to perfection. Finally, the omelet had pretty good flavor to just be an everyday omelet. My $18 Cinn-Fully Delicious cocktail was just fine. It was nothing special, and I didn't care to order another. For lunch, I ordered the $24 blue crab croissant. It was advertised as "lump crab." There was zero lump crab; it was a bland crab salad that had no crab flavor whatsoever. The croissant was stale, which is ironic as I thought these were made in-house. The side Caesar salad was adequate. An hour later, my stomach was hurting. I wonder if the 'crab' was bad. Service was attentive. We asked for individual checks. For some reason, our server split our bill equally among the four in our party. We asked for her to please re-ring it so each of us paid for what we ordered. This took quite some time for her to redo the bill. I won't be back, and I can't recommend anything about this restaurant apart from its prime location and beautiful interior. read more

We ate breakfast here 3 days in a row because we were staying at the hotel. The service Eve staff is wonderful from Joel to Carlos, and Ximena. They were all so professional and knowledgeable. I was extremely happy with the breakfast menu from the avocado toast to the grits to them constantly refilling my coffee. Tie bagel and waffle my daughter loved. We had the option to choose the Regular Menu or the Restaurant Week 3 Course Menu for $55 per person! We looked everything over even asked some questions about items on both menus our server was kind enough to ask the Chef and he was extremely accommodating! We ended up choosing the Restaurant Week 3 Course Menu. To pair with our upcoming courses we chose a bottle of 2021Rombauer Chardonnay subtle buttery finish outstanding! Now we were able to add on to start with we had Oysters Rockefeller which the Oysters were from Prince Edward Island and this preparation was outstanding!! We both started out with the Arugula Roasted Pears Oranges Parmesan Reggiano Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette. For the Entree we both chose the Swordfish Risotto which was phenomenal the Swordfish was seasoned and cooked perfectly and the Risotto was delicious!! If you are looking for the glitz and glam of Charleston, this is it! I am an avid eater in Charleston, and Gabrielle is still one of the absolute best. You can tell the chefs truly take their time crafting each plate, and selecting the best ingredients. The staff by far makes the experience amazing as well. We added a mussel appetizer as well. The highlight of the meal was definitely the pear and goat cheese salad. Both the duck and short ribs were a little dry and overcooked. I visited Gabrielle's twice in one week when I was in Charleston. The service is always exceptional. Our server was Jenna and she was attentive and recommended some dishes to us. I enjoyed the mussels very much. I wanted the oysters but they ran out. They also ran out of the Carolina Gold rice pudding. I got the Chai Tea Roulade cake and it was delicious. Not too sweet, which I like. My friend ordered the flourless truffle which she raved about for the next few days. My friend and I liked Gabrielle's so much we went back to enjoy the outside lounge and enjoy the nice South Carolina weather in the winter. Trudy was our server and she was fantastic and attentive. I ordered the Mirabella sparking rose which Trudy recommended. My friend and I also shared the flourless truffle with the grand marnier sauce. Remember she raved about the truffle dessert. For such a beautiful hotel, Gabrielle's is a huge disappointment. The She Crab Soup for $19 was very bland and barely a cup. The salad at $17 was extremely limp and the club sandwich was ridiculously overpriced at $26. To top it off, the service was terrible. However, prior to dining at Gabrielle's, my date and I decided to try Camellia's Champagne bar. First impressions were wonderful, because of the Chic and elegant furniture and bar- did I mention that the bar has more pink than a group of Flamingos? AKA a flamboyance. This bar was loaded with flamboyant style and exuberant vibe. Everything was amazing until I met our Bartender. The first thing that I asked for was a semi sweet glass of Champagne or sparkling wine for my date. She immediately said we have nothing like that, so I thought my date may want a blanc de blanc- usually made with Chardonnay grapes or a Prosecco. So I asked our bartender about the yellow label Veuve Clicquot and how much Pinot Noir was in the mixture of grapes in the Champagne? And she arrogantly informed me that Champagne doesn't have any red grapes in them. Only the Rose' did because they leave red grape skins in it for color. So I asked- does any of your Champagne's have Pinot Noir in it? She replied arrogantly, like she was talking to an idiot, Champagne Does Not Have Pinot Noir in it!!!! She thought I was an idiot and knew nothing about Champagne. Instead of telling her that I grew up working in French restaurants and was a Maitre d' of the best fine dining restaurant in the State when I was in my twenties and own 2 of my own fine dining restaurants. Instead, with a big smile on face, I said do you want to bet a Million dollars? She said yes, so I googled Vueve Clicquot yellow label I asked her about earlier. And the Yellow label Vueve Clicquot has 50% Pinot Noir grapes. I also told her that most traditional Champagnes have Pinot Noir in them. She immediately left in a huge huff, so I went to the restroom and when I came back, my favorite, arrogant, poorly trained Bartender had brought my date a partial flute of Perrier Jouet Brut.- I thought the bartender let her taste it, because this was the opposite of what she asked for. I tried to get her attention to correct this and I never saw her again. Someone else brought the check out to me. When I opened it I was floored- the Perrier Jouet was $75 dollars for a small glassful. I was pissed when I realized that she did this to be spiteful. She is a huge liability to the Hotel and should not be in the food service business. What she did to me was dishonest and rude! Thankfully our table at Gabrielle's was ready and I was able to forget that awful experience and enjoy my meal. If the Food and Beverage Director reads this I hope he takes appropriate action to the blonde menace at Camellia's. Part of this incident is due to lack of training on Champagne- and the other part is her terrible arrogance and deceitful nature. If she's ripping off the customers, you can be certain that she's doing it to the Hotel Bennett. read more

Good to very good food in a pleasant, upscale atmosphere thoroughly marred both times we ate here during our three night stay at the hotel. First attempt started off on the wrong foot by having to wait nearly 30 min past our reservation time to be seated for lunch/brunch even though the restaurant was nearly empty. Second attempt, for breakfast another morning featured a similarly torturous wait, only for us to discover when finally seated that basically one person was working the entire floor/restaurant and clearly couldn't keep up. (While that gentleman was certainly kind and trying his hardest, where was the "back up" for the server/waiter that had apparently called out due to an injury?) That said, the preparation of the various dishes both times was actually quite good indeed. Net, net: operations/service need some serious tweaking in order to enhance, not detract from Hotel Bennett's intended standing in the hotel world. read more
