Fried okra and squash
Tamara L.

Dinner at Florence's Lowcountry Kitchen Tonight's meal at Florence's Lowcountry Kitchen was everything I'd hoped for in a classic southern experience! We started with the she-crab soup, rich and delicious with a perfect touch of sherry. Alongside, we had the fried squash and okra, which had a unique cut that really let the flavors shine--especially the squash. The texture was just right, letting us enjoy both the fresh veggies and the breading. Since Florence's is known for fried chicken, we had to try it, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The chicken was fried to perfection--crispy without any greasiness, which made it so enjoyable. And the sides? Absolute comfort in every bite! The greens and mac and cheese hit that perfect note for southern comfort food. We also went for the shrimp and grits, and the waitress kindly recommended adjusting the spice by going light on the sausage. It came sizzling hot with plenty of cheesy goodness, and I'm glad I took her suggestion--it was such a satisfying dish. If you're in the area and craving southern cooking, I'd highly recommend Florence's! It's the perfect spot to enjoy some true lowcountry deliciousness. And did I mention the service was also great!

Amazing She Crab Soup

Everything we ate was so good. The She Crab Soup was amazing. Friend and I shared the hot honey chicken with some slamming collards and creamy Gouda Mac and Cheese. Another friend had Fried Flounder with red rice. Nothing we had was disappointing. For apps we had the Lowcountry Hot Shrimp, She Crab Soup and fried okra and squash. All were very good and flavorful. The She Crab Soup alone will make me book a flight. LOL What made our experience so perfect was the service. We came from Georgia, Florida and North Carolina and even though we got there late (8:30 PM on a Saturday), they still gave us A-1 service with hot and fresh food. Our server, Gabe, was the best. He was so patient with us and very attentive. Gabe explained the menu and sold it very well. He took very good care of us making sure nothing was missed. If I could give 10 stars I would, 5 for the service and another 5 for the food. I most definitely will see this place again. This place is a "can't miss" stop when visiting Charleston again. There are so many other menu items I still want to try. Thanks to the chef and thanks to Gabe. Give that young man, Gabe, a raise or promotion.

What a gem!!! Love everything about our dinner. I had jambalaya and my husband had pork chop. I wanted to try Charleston's famous she crab soup. We ordered peach cobbler add an ice cream. YUM!!!! We Totally recommend this place

Breakfast bowl with shrimp andouji sausage and cheesy grits was amazing. The jumboylia was good as well (note has a bit of sweet tomato sauce). The She crab soup was salty, which was a bummer because you could tell it would of had good flavor - our server was super nice and removed the charge. We also had a spicy bloody mary, which was tasty. The place was busy, but it was also Mother's Day - we were seated fast, and food came out within 10-15 minutes. Overall, great food, cost was to be as expected $15-$25 p/p for food. Very clean inside and lots of tables. If I lived around here, I would be back for those grits.

Lowcountry Gumbo

What I got: Lowcountry Hot Shrimp, Lowcountry Gumbo. Thoughts: Shrimp were INCREDIBLE. Tasted and looked exactly how I wanted them to if that makes any sense. Gumbo was good but I prefer Cajun style over Creole, which this was. Tried my friend's bread pudding and burger -- so good! Same with the fried chicken and sides. Great service too from... I believe Crystal?

Good family times anytime. Out of town cousins and in town cousins 10 total unite and feast! Only thing that was forgotten was to make reservations!! Last minute trip and last minute call but we made it! They offered outside seating under the covered patio and we graciously accepted. The pouring torrential rain storm didn't dampen our spirits because our 4 families were together and that's what mattered most. So don't forget to make those all important reservations. This place is very popular and was extremely busy. Yummy looking menu. Andrea was EXCELLENT to put up with us Crazy Cousins trying to make decisions. She took our orders with a smile. She is very kind and caring, so much so that she was able to talk to one of our little ones and calm him down as he was having a hard time breathing. Not sure if was anxiety or a panic attack from his breathing difficulties. Nursing comes in handy when on and off of the job. There was a plethora of choices as most of us chose different entrees. We did however share some delicious Lowcountry Hot shrimp, Lowcountry crab dip and fried Okra & Yellow Squash-YUMMERZ for all. I chose to start with a bowl of Shecrab soup which was pretty good but my husband still ranks #1 which was his specialty!! For my entree I chose the Pork Chops with collards and Mac n cheese. The sides were delicious but the chops, although flavorful, could've been more tender with less char on the grill marks. Several others chose the Southern Hot Honey Chicken, Shrimp n grits, Seafood Pasta Florentine several burgers also and all seemed to be very pleased. All in all we had a delicious meal and great family times! Not sure what the inside was like but it was like we were in our on little world being outside by ourselves. There is handicap parking available with ample parking for others. Thank for family get togethers

Stopped by Florence's this week with a couple of friends to check out what is replacing Jalisco. I had never been to the previous Florence's location so I wasn't sure what to expect. We had some drinks and appetizers (Pimento Cheese, Fried Green Tomatoes, and the Hot Shrimp). All of the food was great for what it is, highly recommend the hot shrimp!! The menu is pretty classic Southern Food, you're not going here to expect anything fancy or off the beaten path. The cocktail list sadly does not have anything exciting, just your basics (margarita, rum punch, old fashioned, etc.), leaving a lot to be desired. The ambiance is nice! Overall, a good spot for a quick meal with friends or family, but not necessarily a recommend to everyone or bring out of town guests to kind of place!

Daily Special: scallops with caviar. DELICIOUS!

The service was on point and the bartender was killing it at the bar - multitasking making 3 drinks all at once. It was super impressive and I took a few videos of him. I'm giving 4 stars because the first cocktail I ordered was SO SWEET that I couldn't get it down. I tried to drink it but had to send it back. We asked when we ordered about the flavor profile and supposedly it wasn't sweet, but all 3 of us agreed it was way oversweet. My black manhattan was phenomenal and my husband had a mocktail moscow mule that was awesome. Overall, I'd come back again - just be mindful of the ingredients in the drink and modifying as needed for sweetness. Make a reservation if you can!

The moment you step inside, the Victorian-style décor sets the tone. Rich textures, warm lighting, and that unmistakable southern charm create an intimate, welcoming atmosphere that feels purposely hidden. Katie, serving as both bartender and host, elevated the entire experience. She was gracious, professional, and genuinely friendly the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back before you've even left. Her Knob Creek whiskey sour was exceptional, easily one of the best in Charleston. Perfectly balanced with extra froth, it showed the kind of craft you expect from a top-tier mixology spot. If you're looking for a speakeasy that nails vibe, service, and cocktails, Scotty Doesn't Know should be at the top of your list. A standout gem in Charleston's bar scene.

There's a comprehensive cocktail menu and the French 75ish and the tiramisu martini were both delicious ($18 each). The prices are super comparable with other bars downtown. They have a full bar if you'd like a standard cocktail or any other creation I'm sure they could make it. Our server was great and very attentive. The kitchen stopped serving food at 10pm which I wish we had been told when we came in because I tried to order fries at 10:04 and was told I couldn't. Which I understand I just wish I had known. The place is pretty small and dark and very quiet so the perfect place for a calm nightcap.

Those of you who aren't familiar with the band I suggest you give a listen to their album Midnight Marauders. The very next song played was equal in its mellow vibe, and thats exactly the atmosphere that Lost Isle has created. In fact, the team there mentioned that the playlist was carefully curated to create such a vibe. Upon entering the parking lot, a dirt and gravel parking lot, it doesn't look like much. Another one of the empty or almost empty buildings along Maybank highway. There is a handwritten sign that informs the guest to come around back from the left-hand side as the right hand side is an employee entrance. Once you get to the side of the building you start to have a slight idea of what's going on. A white wooden pergola-like structure with benches to wait for a space to open up, tall green plants line the walkway of bright white rocks. That quickly opens up to a large area full of tables and two bars. One is the drink bar, where they have a full selection of beer wine and spirits, as well as other non potent potables. 12 or so flat metal stools line the customer side of the bar. The other bar has less stools, maybe 5 or 6 but behind the bar is a wonderfully large outdoor grill that is used to grill their succulent fare. The remainder of the late space is filled with lots of tables most four tops with a few 2 tops scattered about. They are resting in several inches of white pea size gravel. An interesting fight fact is that the chairs have tennis balls on the bottom of the legs and it keeps the chairs from sinking too deep into the gravel. A small thing to be sure but a big thing when it comes to comfort! Whilst sitting at a table canopied by tall leafy trees, and kissed by the whisper of a breeze coming from one (or two) of the many strategically placed fans, you feel like you are in a quiet Caribbean island. It is a chill, relaxed vibe. While the atmosphere is smooth and mellow, the flavors coming off that grill are a bold contrast. But before we delve into the succulent delights let me first talk about the size of the menu, 4-6 appetizers (small plates), 4-6 entrees (Mains) and 4-5 shareable sides. No need to clutter up a menu nor one's thoughts perusing a phone book size menu. Small menus are the way to go; do a few things and do them well I say. Lost Isle does them well. The table ordered a few small plates of fire roasted olives with grilled bread and wood fired clams. Marinated black and green olives grilled had a great smoky, briny taste. Served with a few pieces of grilled bread and some confit garlic. Smearing the bread with some of that creamy garlic clove invoked the memories of a smoky garlic bread; a perfect complement to the olives! The wood fired clams were cooked with a chili-chorizo butter, garlic, and smoked bread crumbs. This was an explosion of flavor on the palate brightened by the juice of lemon, and was in a word, delightful. We then shared a Main of a grilled ribeye steak. Nothing on the earth was made to be cooked on open flame then a ribeye steak! Served to us at a perfect temperature (medium rare as there is no other acceptable temp) and a beautiful dark charred crust, it was a spectacle to behold. Rounding out the dish was a generous amount of Chimichurri and more of that beautiful confit garlic. One thing some people are in sorely in need of learning is that slicing a piece from a large hunk of beef and subsequently easting that slice with a sprinkle of salt seriously enhances the experience. This is why I was delighted by a tiny ramekin of sea salt. The steak was delicious. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the beverage program at the previously mentioned bar. A small but serviceable wine list is available for consumption. Average print on the bottle about $44 and no bottle more than $72. Certainly a bit under some of the more extravagant list on the other Charleston area restaurants. A great variety of cocktails fill the house cocktail lists one particularly caught the eye of the table, the Sheeney Neeney. They were also able to make classic cocktails as the vodka sodas also being consumed at the table. A few mostly local beers round out the cocktail menu. A few things that you will also need to know is that there is no real table service, you approach the bar and order your beverages, your card is entered into the system and then you tab is started. You then can order your food at other bar, given the moniker of The MC. Then you return to the table. As the dishes are completed someone will bring it to the table. We were delightfully surprised at the experience and not a negative word was uttered regarding any aspect of the meal or the experience. I recommend it for anyone looking for a few hours of repose and repast. Take it upon yourself to stop by, where one can be only minutes away from home and thousands of miles away at the same time.

After much debate about what to get for a main course (and after seeing what other patrons got at the bar where I sat), I decided to get the Moroccan salad with salmon. Again...it was good...not great. I cook way better salmon at home on a cedar plank over real charcoal, so maybe I'm being unfair here? I dunno. The salad itself was heavy on arugula, which I'm not a huge fan of. Which is odd, because I love the flavor of pepper! Anyway, the menu made it sound like it was more fennel-oriented, so... Ended up capping off the meal with the blackberry key lime pie. It was quite tasty. Not the best key lime pie I've ever had, but good. As to the atmosphere, it's nice. My girlfriend has actually convinced me several times that we shouldn't come here because we weren't dressed well enough. Well, let me just say: I saw several guys here wearing jeans, fishing shirts, and ball caps and they fit right in. So: not stuffy at all! Bottom line, it's a good, not great place to grab a meal. I love that it's off the beaten path (i.e., not close to Folly Road). Will def come back with my girlfriend next time. Might try the swordfish or maybe the meatballs next time.

They are a burger/oyster bar with a diverse menu that has unique offerings. As far as I know this is the only true oyster bars on the Island. There are plenty of restaurants that serve raw oysters but no with a wide-ranging selection of oysters from various locales. I don't care for raw oysters myself, but I saw a lot being served. We started with cocktails with my wife ordering the "Don't Call It a Skinny" with Tequila, Guava, Lime, Agave, and Lime Salt. They say try it spicy if you are feeling feisty and she was. The drink was light with a wonderful back heat on the end. I enjoyed the Smoked Praline Sour with rye, hazelnut, Montenegro, praline, citrus and bitters with a nice smoke for added flavor. It tasted just like a praline, and I had a tough time getting it back after my wife had a try, We ordered some fried oysters Buffalo style with a ranch sauce for dipping. Being an oyster bar they were very fresh and full of flavor. Our favorite starter was the popular Jam Jar with ricotta cheese and seasonal jam with toasty bread. The jam was tomato and our server gave us a great pro-tip. Empty the bowl it comes in and dump the contents of the jar then swirl the two together then spoon it up on the bread. It was absolutely delicious and can't be missed! We decided to get a couple of burgers which are a mixture of brisket, chuck and short rib. I got the Harlow burger which has American Cheese, Comeback Sauce, Pickles, and Shredded Lettuce. I was pleased that instead of a smash burger which everyone seems to do these days, it was a thick juicy burger. It was so juicy I needed to wipe my hands and mouth after each bite. The comeback sauce was unique and definitely added to the spectacular flavor I was experiencing. Poe's used to be my thick burger go to and they have been dethroned! My wife chose the Southern Roots with Bacon, Pimento, Shredded Lettuce, and Pickled Green Tomatoes. It was obvious that the pimento cheese was homemade and packed with cheesy goodness. The fries were perfect burger fries being neither steak nor shoestring but just perfectly crispy and light, similar but better than McDonalds in every way. Zach, the general manager came over to chat for a bit and offer us a complimentary cocktail to try. The Section 112 was Bourbon, tarragon, preach, bitters, and a streusel foam. They purposely leave out a straw so that you taste that foam with each sip. I couldn't have had a better time. Friendly service that was top notch. Drinks that were creative as well as fulfilling and food that will linger in my collective memories for a long time.
