Not so good. Ordered the tamari poached salmon sliders and got lightly warmed salmon cakes that tasted like they came from canned salmon. Found a bone! The only hint of green curry in the meatballs was in the description on the menu. Overall, the food was "meh". -Fred Slacks read more

Our family chose Edison James Island after experiencing a death in the family because we wanted a peaceful place to gather, share a meal, and support one another during a difficult time. Unfortunately, that isn't what we experienced. From the moment we arrived, we felt like our presence was an inconvenience. We had a larger family group, and although there appeared to be tables that could have been rearranged, there was little effort or willingness to accommodate us. Instead of feeling welcomed, we were made to feel as though the restaurant would have preferred that we dine somewhere else. Hospitality is about making guests feel valued, especially during moments when compassion matters most. Sadly, that was missing. I won't speculate about why we were treated this way. I can only speak to how it felt. Our entire family left feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and disappointed. When you're grieving, kindness and empathy go a long way, and we simply didn't experience either here. I sincerely hope every guest who walks through these doors is made to feel genuinely welcome. read more

Gotta admit - I struggled with this one. I ended up getting the West Indies seafood chowder for an appetizer. It was...good...not great. Had a slight kick to it (spice wise) but very little evidence of actual seafood in it. After much debate about what to get for a main course (and after seeing what other patrons got at the bar where I sat), I decided to get the Moroccan salad with salmon. Again...it was good...not great. I cook way better salmon at home on a cedar plank over real charcoal, so maybe I'm being unfair here? I dunno. The salad itself was heavy on arugula, which I'm not a huge fan of. Which is odd, because I love the flavor of pepper! Anyway, the menu made it sound like it was more fennel-oriented, so... Ended up capping off the meal with the blackberry key lime pie. It was quite tasty. Not the best key lime pie I've ever had, but good. As to the atmosphere, it's nice. My girlfriend has actually convinced me several times that we shouldn't come here because we weren't dressed well enough. Well, let me just say: I saw several guys here wearing jeans, fishing shirts, and ball caps and they fit right in. So: not stuffy at all! Bottom line, it's a good, not great place to grab a meal. I love that it's off the beaten path (i.e., not close to Folly Road). Will def come back with my girlfriend next time. Might try the swordfish or maybe the meatballs next time. read more

Lovely evening celebrating a special aunt with my special niece. The food was crazy good, and we got half price bottles of wine! Our server was excellent. She was very attentive, and we never felt rushed. We had a lovely table next to a window, and we were able to have a conversation without yelling. Will definitely be back. read more

They did do a great job given it is next to some street that gets traffic even though it's a side street. Cute patio area. We went to celebrate our anniversary (put that in the res) and they congratulated at checkin. Service was friendly and attentive. Dog friendly patio! We saw a lot of families with young kids. I jad the steak fries which I really did not think were a stand out. The taco appetizer was good and different. The food was not as.memorable as I had read. May give it a second chance. read more

I love the cozy and local vibe of this place, plus the nice servers and delicious food! Good wine selection too.

There is a gravel parking lot that makes getting to Edison fairly easy. They have a nice patio decoration with Edison bulbs outside with minimal tables. This is far enough away from downtown and the main sections of James Island that you don't need to worry about traffic (unless school is in session then it can be a bit much.) Upon entry there was a very weird smell (perhaps a strong cleaning product) that was off putting but otherwise, the restaurant itself is visually pleasing. My friend and I were sat at a two-top by the window where we started the evening off with a bottle of red wine and the Fromage & Fig app. Both of these (pictured) were delicious! We continued with the Moroccan salad and Blackstrap Braised Beef Short Ribs. I thought the salad was light, flavorful, and refreshing. Personally, I did not care for the bbq sauce on the short rib and thought it took away from the dish. (Yes I realize that's where the dish gets its name. The grits and Brussels sprouts as the side dish were very good however. Overall prices on the menu are fair and about what you expect to pay in Charleston. Our server, Samantha, was an absolute sweetheart! She was super knowledgeable of the menu and had solid recommendations (like adding salmon to the Moroccan salad!). Def request her if you want a positive experience. read more

Omg. I feel like I hadn't had a meal this good in so long. This was unreal. The staff was also extremely friendly, gave us bar recommendations and our friend a complimentary dessert of her choosing. The bacon wrapped dates were insane. So good. I think about them weekly now. And we all got the same entree cause we heard how good it was from staff there as well as a friend's mom. This place did not disappoint. read more

Absolutely Delightful Experience at Edison James Island! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm, friendly service and a cozy, modern atmosphere that immediately set the tone for a fantastic meal. The menu was creative and well thought out, with fresh, flavorful ingredients in every unique dish. We especially loved the shrimp cavatelli and the AHmazing braised short ribs perfectly cooked over Gouda grits with crunchy onion rings and beautifully presented. The cocktails were inventive and well-balanced, and the dessert was the perfect ending to an unforgettable dining experience. We got the Chocolate Dome with the table side hot Carmel poured over top! The Blood Orange cheesecake was very good but some chocolate drizzle on there would have taken it to the next level. Edison is a true gem on James Island--whether you're a local or just visiting Charleston, this place is well worth a visit. Open only 4-9pm so definitely call for reservations. Outdoor seating is available and well spaced out. Ample gravel parking. We'll definitely be back! read more

Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Food was amazing! They worked with my odd dietary restrictions with grace and ease.

This is such a cool little place tucked away on James Island. This was my first visit and I really enjoyed it. Our waitress Paula was great and did an amazing job explaining and recommending some of her favorites. I had the Pho tacos and Bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer, Mexican shrimp pasta (it was a special), and the Blackberry Key Lime pie. Everything was great and I will definitely be returning!! read more

What an amazing experience!!! I don't think we could have had a better evening! My wife had the ahi tuna okonomiyaku and I had the shrimp cavatelli! Both dishes were a 10! We will definitely be returning often to this gem. read more

Excellent, upscale food, yet casual restaurant that is off the beaten path. You can find Edison's not far out of the way, but clearly off the beaten path, in an older neighborhood on James Island. Edison's is a Quiet Atmosphere so you can hear conversation, with tables not sitting on top of each other. There is also outdoors, that would be really nice in the spring/fall or after the sun goes down. Service was very friendly, although we both thought the food came out a little to quickly for us to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere and conversations. The wife and I split 2 appetizers that included: 1. Vietnamese Pho Tacos. This is exactly as described, a bowl of Pho, (Without the broth), with small chunks of Pork, glass noodles, cilantro, sprouts, ginger aioli, sriracha and a splash of Hoisin Sauce. The wife claimed it to be the best Taco she ever had, and would have been happy just with a few of these for her main dinner 2. A plate of perfectly fried oysters, on a bed of corn remoulade, with a spicy pickled okra we both really liked, and a spicy yellow sriracha. This was a well-balanced yummy dish. For our main dinner the wife ordered the Pan Seared Scallops. The jumbo scallops had a great sear and served at the right temperature. They were served on toasted pearl pasta and a green potato-leek puree. I can't ever remember having toasted pearl pasta, but they added a good and unique texture I ordered the Blackstrap Braised Beef Short Ribs. Something else new and amazing to my pallet was Blackstrap BBQ. These Short Ribs were as tender as can be, and the BBQ sauce had a wonderful Salty yet sweet flavor. The bed of Gouda grits was creamy and out of this world. There were bits of crispy Brussels sprouts that was perfect with the BBQ sauce. And to top this all of there were real homemade onion rings. I just loved this dish All and all a wonderful dinner. read more

I would get a solid 3.5. I came here on a Wednesday with my mom, which is wine Wednesday so all bottles of wine are half price which was a great deal. We sat on the patio in May so it was a really nice night. Beware of the bugs with all of the lights once the sun goes down though. We did end up having to move inside. I had, the braised short ribs which was decent. It came on grits so the texture was an interesting one. With nothing substantial to crunch on it was a very mushy dish. My mom had the Moroccan salad with salmon, which was delicious. Our server was amazing and helped us move inside after the bugs came out. When we did decide to move inside, we ended up getting the chocolate bulb, which was a very pretty presentation! read more

After walking through James Island Park for a few hours, we were tired and hungry and sort of stumbled onto The Edison at their 4 pm opening. We were heartily greeted by Joshua, who made it great - so much fun! He explained so many of the dishes to us and that actually made it hard to decide (haha) but was truly very helpful. We shared the Fromage & Fig, goat cheese and fig jam, absolutely delicious. Our main courses were the Shrimp Cavatelli and the Braised Beef Short Ribs. Both outstanding. Don't miss this experience! Would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. Not quite worthy of 4. Ambiance is nice. I enjoy the renovated house style restaurant. Went Friday evening and was able to get two seats at the bar. Bartender was friendly but interesting that there is no liquor available. Ordered the chowder and the braised short rib and grits. Chowder was good. Wouldn't order again. Braised short ribs with the grits was good but would not order again. But it lacked a certain distinction to warrant price tag.The flavors were slightly muddled. Nothing that cut through and left me impressed. Almost forgot. Had a slice of the key like pie for dessert. This I would not recommend. Too dense to an almost gummy quality. Supposed to be blackberry combination from key lime pie but that left much to be desired. Friend ordered the steak frites. Was unimpressed by cook quality. Brown ring on outside and overly raw on inside. Would like to see more care for the dishes. Overall would come here but maybe just for a glass of wine read more

We had the charcuterie app, the salmon and the short ribs. Wednesdays are half off wine bottles. The wine is a decent deal, the rest, I'm not sure it's worth the hype. Charcuterie cheeses weren't artisan cheeses, but more so prepackaged grocery bought sliced variety pack. The ribs had ok texture but the sauce was straight up barbecue off of a bottle. I would have expected something just a touch more refined. My wife says the salmon was under seasoned. We have been to this place multiple times before and keep trying to say it's better than what it really is, unfortunately. Don't think will be back with all the options around JI. The service was very laid back and although it's not an ideal place for a date due to noise level, it is great place to come and chat. No one will rush you off the table. read more

Blown away by this restaurant! Can't believe I didn't make it there sooner! Atmosphere is perfect for date night or a nicer night out with family or friends. It's just a bit of an industrial decor (hence the name) but feels cozy and the outdoor space is just charming. Service was great, staff was attentive and checked in on us frequently and felt like they were adding a personal touch in the conversations. Food was incredible. The Thai chicken noodle soup was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The fromage & fig appetizer came with the right amount of bread and was an explosion of rich flavors - our server told us this was also often ordered for dessert. The Tuscan chicken gnocchi was flavorful and a generous portion. The Moroccan salmon salad was a perfect combination of sweet, tangy, salty, and crunchy with a large piece of salmon. I already can't wait to come back! The brunch menu also looks super creative! read more

Favorite restaurant on James island! It was right down the street so incredibly convenient. There's outdoor seating which is great if you don't might the heat. We ended up sitting indoors since it was June. Indoor can get a little stuffy so don't worry about bringing a jacket. We started off with some appetizers which really set us up for high expectations. We went with the Tandoori Chicken Skewers which had a refreshing raita sauce (Indian yogurt sauce). If you are unfamiliar with it, I would say it's similar to tzatziki but a thinner consistency. We also ordered the Salmon Rillette which was topped with capers and came with crisp pita chips. Super light and delicious! We also ordered the Vietnamese Pho Tacos which was actually fairly spicy! If you're craving pho but don't want to down a bowl of steaming pho in this heat, these tacos are a great alternative. Now after these apps I wasn't expecting my entree to outshine but boy was I wrong. I ordered the Blackstrap Braised Beef Short Ribs -- WOW. I don't think I've ever had a more tender and flavorful short rib in my life. It was so juicy and just melted in my mouth. It paired well with the bbq sauce and the smoked gouda grits. The cherry on top was the two crispy onion rings -- well seasoned and added that perfect bit of crunch. I will be coming back here specifically for this dish. Not only was the food absolutely delicious and worth the price, but our waitress was so friendly and attentive. She really made us feel at home. I can't wait until the next time I'm back in town so I can try the rest of the menu! read more

This little gem is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood on James Island. I love the vibe of the restaurant - very clean, bright, fancy, and full of people pretty dressed up/celebrating occasions. The menu is super unique and offers a variety of foods and prices. We started with the Tandoori skewers which were fantastic. I ordered the Edison grilled cheese, which was OK, but nothing special. It was described as a truffle butter grilled cheese, but I didn't taste any truffle in the dish. The herb fries were fantastic and came out piping hot. My husband got the seafood and grits which he described as 10/10. Our server convinced us to try their famous Edison bulb dessert, which I thought was very fairly priced at $10. A chocolate bulb covers a scoop of ice cream on top of a brownie. The server pours hot caramel over the chocolate bulb which then melts into a delicious mess. I loved the theatrics of the dessert and of course it was also delicious. This would be a fun place to celebrate a birthday/anniversary! Service was outstanding - I felt so welcomed and it seemed like the servers were passionate about their jobs. read more

We had a nice time here, a little different than we expected. The layout is a little confusing when you first walk in, but the service was good and the food was interesting.
