There is a gravel parking lot that makes getting to Edison fairly easy. They have a nice patio decoration with Edison bulbs outside with minimal tables. This is far enough away from downtown and the main sections of James Island that you don't need to worry about traffic (unless school is in session then it can be a bit much.) Upon entry there was a very weird smell (perhaps a strong cleaning product) that was off putting but otherwise, the restaurant itself is visually pleasing. My friend and I were sat at a two-top by the window where we started the evening off with a bottle of red wine and the Fromage & Fig app. Both of these (pictured) were delicious! We continued with the Moroccan salad and Blackstrap Braised Beef Short Ribs. I thought the salad was light, flavorful, and refreshing. Personally, I did not care for the bbq sauce on the short rib and thought it took away from the dish. (Yes I realize that's where the dish gets its name. The grits and Brussels sprouts as the side dish were very good however. Overall prices on the menu are fair and about what you expect to pay in Charleston. Our server, Samantha, was an absolute sweetheart! She was super knowledgeable of the menu and had solid recommendations (like adding salmon to the Moroccan salad!). Def request her if you want a positive experience.

Omg. I feel like I hadn't had a meal this good in so long. This was unreal. The staff was also extremely friendly, gave us bar recommendations and our friend a complimentary dessert of her choosing. The bacon wrapped dates were insane. So good. I think about them weekly now. And we all got the same entree cause we heard how good it was from staff there as well as a friend's mom. This place did not disappoint.

This is such a cool little place tucked away on James Island. This was my first visit and I really enjoyed it. Our waitress Paula was great and did an amazing job explaining and recommending some of her favorites. I had the Pho tacos and Bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer, Mexican shrimp pasta (it was a special), and the Blackberry Key Lime pie. Everything was great and I will definitely be returning!!

Excellent, upscale food, yet casual restaurant that is off the beaten path. You can find Edison's not far out of the way, but clearly off the beaten path, in an older neighborhood on James Island. Edison's is a Quiet Atmosphere so you can hear conversation, with tables not sitting on top of each other. There is also outdoors, that would be really nice in the spring/fall or after the sun goes down. Service was very friendly, although we both thought the food came out a little to quickly for us to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere and conversations. The wife and I split 2 appetizers that included: 1. Vietnamese Pho Tacos. This is exactly as described, a bowl of Pho, (Without the broth), with small chunks of Pork, glass noodles, cilantro, sprouts, ginger aioli, sriracha and a splash of Hoisin Sauce. The wife claimed it to be the best Taco she ever had, and would have been happy just with a few of these for her main dinner 2. A plate of perfectly fried oysters, on a bed of corn remoulade, with a spicy pickled okra we both really liked, and a spicy yellow sriracha. This was a well-balanced yummy dish. For our main dinner the wife ordered the Pan Seared Scallops. The jumbo scallops had a great sear and served at the right temperature. They were served on toasted pearl pasta and a green potato-leek puree. I can't ever remember having toasted pearl pasta, but they added a good and unique texture I ordered the Blackstrap Braised Beef Short Ribs. Something else new and amazing to my pallet was Blackstrap BBQ. These Short Ribs were as tender as can be, and the BBQ sauce had a wonderful Salty yet sweet flavor. The bed of Gouda grits was creamy and out of this world. There were bits of crispy Brussels sprouts that was perfect with the BBQ sauce. And to top this all of there were real homemade onion rings. I just loved this dish All and all a wonderful dinner.

I would get a solid 3.5. I came here on a Wednesday with my mom, which is wine Wednesday so all bottles of wine are half price which was a great deal. We sat on the patio in May so it was a really nice night. Beware of the bugs with all of the lights once the sun goes down though. We did end up having to move inside. I had, the braised short ribs which was decent. It came on grits so the texture was an interesting one. With nothing substantial to crunch on it was a very mushy dish. My mom had the Moroccan salad with salmon, which was delicious. Our server was amazing and helped us move inside after the bugs came out. When we did decide to move inside, we ended up getting the chocolate bulb, which was a very pretty presentation!

We just can't get enough of this hidden gem. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed as a member of family. The staff is amazing and interior is great. The food is just flat out amazing. The steak frites can compete with any in Charleston. The flavoring was excellent and price was jaw dropping. Poke bowl is to die for. Support this amazing place!

How did I miss this place? Great food and close to Folly. It is am absolute must. It is southern food meets a real chef to create something special. A big focus on local ingredients. I loved my swordfish dinner, which is only available in season. So fresh that I could have cut myself on the sword. Haha. My wife's shrimp and cavelli was amazing. A delicate sauce that brought out the flavor of the shrimp. This is worth a trip here alone. My daughter said that she had the best fried chicken and waffles ever! Since she has been tasting them for a while now, she has a point of view.

The Edison is somewhat hidden on James island but the food and service are great. Not busy on weeknights.

I was kind of surprised how the Harlow on James Island has stayed under the radar…read more This neighborhood restaurant and bar is loaded with charm and perhaps some of the friendliest staff around. They are a burger/oyster bar with a diverse menu that has unique offerings. As far as I know this is the only true oyster bars on the Island. There are plenty of restaurants that serve raw oysters but no with a wide-ranging selection of oysters from various locales. I don't care for raw oysters myself, but I saw a lot being served. We started with cocktails with my wife ordering the "Don't Call It a Skinny" with Tequila, Guava, Lime, Agave, and Lime Salt. They say try it spicy if you are feeling feisty and she was. The drink was light with a wonderful back heat on the end. I enjoyed the Smoked Praline Sour with rye, hazelnut, Montenegro, praline, citrus and bitters with a nice smoke for added flavor. It tasted just like a praline, and I had a tough time getting it back after my wife had a try, We ordered some fried oysters Buffalo style with a ranch sauce for dipping. Being an oyster bar they were very fresh and full of flavor. Our favorite starter was the popular Jam Jar with ricotta cheese and seasonal jam with toasty bread. The jam was tomato and our server gave us a great pro-tip. Empty the bowl it comes in and dump the contents of the jar then swirl the two together then spoon it up on the bread. It was absolutely delicious and can't be missed! We decided to get a couple of burgers which are a mixture of brisket, chuck and short rib. I got the Harlow burger which has American Cheese, Comeback Sauce, Pickles, and Shredded Lettuce. I was pleased that instead of a smash burger which everyone seems to do these days, it was a thick juicy burger. It was so juicy I needed to wipe my hands and mouth after each bite. The comeback sauce was unique and definitely added to the spectacular flavor I was experiencing. Poe's used to be my thick burger go to and they have been dethroned! My wife chose the Southern Roots with Bacon, Pimento, Shredded Lettuce, and Pickled Green Tomatoes. It was obvious that the pimento cheese was homemade and packed with cheesy goodness. The fries were perfect burger fries being neither steak nor shoestring but just perfectly crispy and light, similar but better than McDonalds in every way. Zach, the general manager came over to chat for a bit and offer us a complimentary cocktail to try. The Section 112 was Bourbon, tarragon, preach, bitters, and a streusel foam. They purposely leave out a straw so that you taste that foam with each sip. I couldn't have had a better time. Friendly service that was top notch. Drinks that were creative as well as fulfilling and food that will linger in my collective memories for a long time. You need to make a reservation as they are so popular that walk ins may have a tough time.
