Impeccable brunch!! I had a reservation on a Sunday morning. I was promptly seated downstairs. The interior is feminine and beautiful. The service felt personal and welcoming. I tried the omelette which was stuffed with asparagus, Boursin cheese and caramelized onion. It was fluffy, light and salty. Also ordered a side of biscuits with strawberry jam which wasn't overly sweet and balanced out the butteriness. The husk mimosa was a hit as well. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday and it was very busy, but we had a reservation. It's in a beautiful old house with nice decor, but the acoustics were terrible. We could hear everything everyone else was saying, and it was difficult to hear others at our own table. The rock music did not help the cacophonous ambience. We ordered the deviled eggs which were tasty and the mushrooms. Some mushrooms came in a creamy sauce which tasted fine, but the other mushrooms were fried and bland. Our entrees were the rabbit, snapper, and scallops with sides of dirty rice, grits, and cabbage. The meat was tender and there were some nice flavors. The dishes were all decent, but very rich and heavy. So, if you like the feeling of that in your stomach, this place is for you. Our server was nice but a bit officious. Based purely on food, I would give this place a 3 star, but the amazing service bumped it up to a 4 star rating. First of all, it's a beautiful space. The converted house is airy, bright, and spacious. It seems that everyone had the same dishes on their tables for brunch, ie the shrimp & grits, and the fried chicken & waffles. I opted for the former, and pork dirty rice as I am a bit "fried chicken'd out" at this point of our southern trip. The grits were great, definitely lived up the hype. Meanwhile, the rice dish was really really spicy and I normally can handle spicy food quite well. Our server was so incredibly sweet and accommodating. She offered to bring another dish, or get me something else to go. She went above and beyond and I am super appreciative of her effort. SO and I were in Charleston for a few days and dined at Husk, one of Anthony Bourdain's stops. We started with the country ham and yellowfin crudo, both of which provided a variety of flavors and were fun to eat. For entrees, we had the scallops and wreckfish, both of which were perfectly seared and epitomized how seriously this establishment takes its seafood dishes. We probably would have had drinks and dessert if we could have gotten an earlier reservation, but we had an early flight back home the next morning. I was pretty underwhelmed by the brunch. I had heard some amazing things about this restaurant and there was nothing really special about the meal. Especially with so many amazing restaurants downtown. Everything was good and the service was good, but nothing stood out to me. I think everyone at our table tried a different brunch dish. Another delicious meal at Husk. This was my first brunch at Husk and we loved every minute!!! My friends and I went to Husk for brunch close to Christmas time and thank goodness we got there early! It was 2nd Sunday and it got really busy! I had the shrimp and grits and I could not have chosen better. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the flavors complemented each other well. We started with the deviled eggs and the biscuits-a perfect appetizer! The mimosas were good, but I felt like they overloaded the ice which minimized how much mimosa we actually got to enjoy. Visited here for the first time this weekend as I saw how Christmassy it was and couldn't resist! And the Christmas decor did NOT disappoint! Was immediately seated at our reservation time and had the most lovely lady as our waitress. Service was amazing and everyone in there is very kind. Food was great, perfect portion sizes and timing of the food was ideal as well. The cornbread with the butter was so light and to die for and was the perfect pair to my pretty heavy pasta I ordered. After dinner we couldn't resist the bar right next door that was also decked out for Christmas. We were quickly seated in the cozy upstairs and had a great class of wine. Southern brunch done right. Everyone at our table loved their dishes, especially the shrimp and grits and fried chicken and biscuits. The grits were creamy, not too heavy and complimented the shrimp perfectly. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, brined well with some subtle rosemary aromatics. Biscuit was fluffy but dense in all the right ways. Bloody Mary mix was seasoned well and let the tomato flavor shine. We also tried the coffee cake and deviled eggs - coffee cake was good and the deviled egg yolk mix was a bit denser than expected. Space is beautiful and we were seated upstairs and on a nice day so the French doors to the balcony porch was open. Service was friendly and prompt. Husk is still a favorite. We stopped in Charleston and snagged seats at Husk's adjoining bar. The bar (separate building) is as warm and as charming as the dining room. Right when you walk up to husk, you know it's going to be amazing. This restaurant is inside a plantation home. The host was extremely friendly and so was our server. We started with the tuna tartare and pimento cheese and biscuits with ham. Then we had scallops and the pastrami rubbed beef for dinner. Dessert.......don't sleep on these...omg. The Elvis ice box cake and yes it had bacon bits on it and then the German chocolate cake, which isn't a looker, but tasted amazing. Everything was top notch and you didn't need a knife for the pastrami rubbed beef. The app showstopper was the pimento cheese, biscuits, with ham. My wife and I recently went to Husk for a weekend dinner and had a good experience. We first went to Husk's patio and bar while we waited for our reservation, and got the field green salad and the Parker House rolls with pimento cheese and pickles. The pimento cheese with chili crisp and the pickles were the stars- the cheese was rich and creamy with a good flavor kick from the chili crisp, and the pickles were perfectly cured and seasoned. The Parker House rolls and the salad were OK, although unremarkable. The bar overall had a good ambiance, although the lighting was so dim that it was difficult to read our menu and order. Husk has a nice ambiance with low lighting and nice placesettings. Our service was fine, although it did take almost 25 minutes for our first dishes to come out despite the restaurant not being at capacity. I started with the skillet corn bread and was very excited as it was cooked with duck fat (something I've never seen before). However, I couldn't taste the duck fat, the cornbread was dry, it needed more butter, and it didn't pair well with other dishes. I got the chicken-fried rabbit for my main dish. The rabbit was well-cooked but not noteworthy. The gumbo had good flavor but was extremely salty, and the grits could have added more to the dish. This dish also needed more of a fresh vegetable and acid element to cut through the fattiness and heaviness of the gumbo, rabbit, and grits. For dessert, we shared the corn miso ice cream and the apple blondie, both of which were delicious, creamy, and had the right amount of sweetness. I would recommend Husk for a nice dinner in Charleston. read more

Lucky us!!! Unable to get a reservation at Husk during our recent trip to Charleston, but I was persistent and checked daily during our stay...Apparently they do get cancellations (very infrequently), but I was able to get a reservation at 5:15 the same day I checked their website!!! It's a Michelin recommended restaurant and certainly deserves a star in my opinion .... Everything was spot on with scrumptious food, lovely ambiance and amazing service! (see pictures) Please make Husk a restaurant you will try if you're ever in the Historic District of Charleston....I know you won't be disappointed! This was on our must-try after watching Anthony Bourdain's episode in Charleston. We didn't see reservations online so we stopped in while walking in the area and they were able to give us one that evening. Service was impeccable. The food was not as amazing as I had hoped. My veggies with the chicken were too salty to eat but the chicken was amazingly moist and delicious. I tried the fish and that was really good as well. The Mockingbird sounded weird and I didn't like the taste. But my husband thought it was fine. So, personal tastes play a role in what you might think. read more

More hype than actual performance, Husk was a bit of a letdown imo. My last dinner in Charleston, I found myself at the original Husk. Farm to table 'elevated southern cuisine' was hard to resist. Yet, after each bite, I found myself wondering if things could be ever so slightly improved. Of what I sampled, I'd probably recommend the pork chop, although not quite a must-have. Service was on point. I never found myself waiting or wanting. Prices were 'elevated' for the quality provided, however, the portions were fair. I would not say no to trying Husk again, either at a future visit to Charleston or one of their other locations. However, I wouldn't make it a priority. read more

Ah yes, the "farm-to-table" movement. This was such the buzz during the 2010's (and maybe even earlier?). Cynics might say that it's just an excuse to jack up the price for everything. Now, is this the best place I've ever been to? No, but this was a very solid start to a Charleston trip. The enoki mushroom tempura with egg custard and mushroom broth. While I normally would not order this starter at a non-Asian restaurant, this was a pretty good offering. With mushrooms, you get a lot of savory notes, and this was no exception. The crispy mushrooms contrasted with the flavorful broth well. While I like egg and the egg custard provided a little more added dimension, it wasn't entirely necessary. The wreckfish was nicely seared, while being tender inside. It's a more neutral whitefish, so it didn't have a flavor that necessarily stood out, but it was clean. The winter squash and mushrooms gave the dish a more hearty but not overwhelming accompaniment. The fried apple pie a little take from what I'd normally get. Someone might say it's just a McDonald's apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top, but this one is much flaky and had a robust apple-y filling. The apples kept their structural integrity, which is a good thing, as apple filling that disintegrates isn't quite as good. The service was rather strong, as I had a lot of staff serve my dishes and I got a lot of attention during the visit. The decor is lovely and I enjoyed sitting on the covered outside deck. The restaurant had some classy Christmas decorations, which gave it an even warmer feel. read more

Everything was so delicious. This was our favorite meal of our 5 day vacation. We're so happy we decided to come on our last night in Charleston. The decor was cute and quaint. The staff was very helpful in deciding what we were going to order and at explaining each of the dishes in detail. I ordered the oysters as app and scallops as main dish and both were bursting with flavor. I was pleasantly surprised. The scallops were the waiters favorite and I can see why. Husk was recommended to us by family that doesn't live in Charleston, but they always makes it a point to stop in when they visit. We absolutely enjoyed our meal here. Reservations were easy to get for a Sunday Brunch and the interior was beautiful. An older home converted to a dinning space but easy to walk and comfortable seating. We were very spaced out compared to other establishments who work with a similar concept. We loved every dish we ordered. The deviled eggs with the house made pickles were a blend of richness and spice that we were tempted to order more. Flavor is really what was most interesting about the dishes. The Short Rib wild Rice dish also had spice that was balanced by the egg and meat, a wonderful combination. The Shrimp and Grits were creamy and the greens were cooked to perfection. We had been here years ago when Sean Brock was the main chef and had the most delicious meal. I was pregnant with my youngest and wanted to come back with both kids this time. We wanted try some things that were on the menu last time but weren't able to. The food was very fresh and delicious. My favorite was the scallops and grits. Had a choice of Caesar salad or rabbit stew (selected the later and it was incredible. Tons of meat and rich flavor). Second course was a vegetarian pasta, fried catfish or pork belly. The pork was delicious served over kimchi and grits. Final dessert selection was lemon pie or bourbon ice cream. This restaurant is in an old historic mansion and is beautiful! They also have a bar next door. This was handy because we had some time to kill before out Table was ready. Service here was amazing. We had a large party of 8 and our server was able to keep everyone happy during our visit. I'll say that I'm a pescatarian who can't have lactose. There were not a ton of options in the main course section for me. I deducted one star for the food. E6 else in my party loved the food. This place deserves 10 stars, not 5!! Had a truly magical dinner at Husk while visiting the area. My partner and I shared everything, so started with the pork ribs that came with Alabama white sauce-WOW! The smell, taste, and texture were absolutely spot on. Moving to mains, we had the pasta of the day which included shrimp and rabbit- this was unlike any pasta dish I have ever tried; super creative and all the flavors complimented each other. We also had pastrami which melted in your mouth and came with perfectly crispy potatoes. Finally, we decided to try the side of grits which is not something I typically enjoy but these were amazing- well seasoned and creamy. Finally, we ended the meal with the expresso ice box cake which although had no ice cream almost ate like a creamy ice cream cake. It was another creative take with crunchy toffee in each bite. We tried this spot as part of a double dinner lineup. Here first, Vern's second. Glad we did do it in that order. Overall, we had a nice experience. Leslie our server was fantastic, calming, and just made for an easy breezy night. We even let her know our plans to have another stop that night and she carefully considered her recommendations and also made sure we had a great start to our evening. To be honest, my favorite BITE of the whole weekend was from Husk. Their tuna crudo blew me away. The flavor combo was dynamic and dynamite. Unlike any of the ones I've had that open lean heavy on acid citrus and let other flavors take a back seat. This was a balance of earth, creamy, spice, and some acid. Absolutely our fav of the weekend. The cornmeal oysters, were good, but pretty pedestrian. Didn't have enough seasoning highlights and was predictable.
