Four? Five? years later, Husk is still one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. I absolutely loved my first meal here back in 2021, so returning this year with friends was a no-brainer. This time around I was dining with friends, which meant we got to order a whole bunch of dishes - a foodie's dream. We started with the Hunter Cattle Beef Tartare, topped with shoestring potatoes, smoked cheddar, and egg yolk jam. It was rich, flavorful, and while the presentation looked a bit like dog food, it was otherwise the perfect way to kick off the meal. For the table, we also shared the Roasted Carrots, served with chamomile honey, labneh, puffed rice, candied peanuts, and an olive crumble. I know, carrots aren't always a "must-order," but trust me - they were fantastic. We also couldn't pass up the Hearth-Baked Skillet Cornbread with Broadbent bacon crumble mixed throughout. Southern comfort food!!! For my entree, I ordered the Blueberry & Corn Salad, which was anything but an ordinary salad. Between the BBQ pecans, ricotta salata, bacon fat honey mustard, and fresh seasonal ingredients, every bite was packed with flavor. One friend ordered the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with compressed cantaloupe, marigold, and leche de tigre. It was bright, refreshing, and beautifully plated. Our other friend opted for the South Carolina Golden Tilefish, served with Kindlewood Farms summer squash and serrano, and it, too, was a hit. For drinks, one friend enjoyed a glass of wine while I ordered the Dragoon Punch. I'll admit, I was a little disappointed to learn my beloved Primrose Path was no longer on the menu. I even asked if they could make one, but unfortunately they were missing one of the ingredients. No worries, the Dragoon Punch was delicious and a worthy replacement. Husk is a beautiful restaurant located in downtown Charleston. It has two side by side locations, one with the full food menu and one that is only bar seating with a more concise menu. My husband and I went to the restaurant side which is a large, redesigned Victorian style house. We went in as in Walk -Ins but reservations are recommended. The service was fast and the food was phenomenal. The beef tartare was fresh, and easily shareable. Cocktails were brought out fast and both tasted delicious. The scallops and pork chop were some of the best we've had. The only slightly disappointing dish was the corn bread which was on the more dry side, however the collards more than made up for it. The only downside to this restaurant were the flies, I felt like I was battling both large and fruit flies my entire meal. There were so many. First Visit to Husk -- Worth Every Bit of the Hype After hearing so much about Husk over the years, we finally made our first visit--and somehow it still exceeded every expectation. Housed in a beautifully restored historic Charleston home, Husk perfectly captures everything you love about the city's charm. From the moment you walk through the doors, the atmosphere feels warm, elegant, and inviting. We were seated upstairs in a gorgeous dining room where the tables were thoughtfully spaced, making the experience feel intimate rather than crowded. The hospitality was outstanding from start to finish, but our server, Chris, truly made the evening unforgettable. He welcomed us with genuine enthusiasm and, after taking our cocktail orders, walked us through the menu--which changes daily. Rather than simply listing dishes, Chris described each one in detail, explaining the flavors, ingredients, and preparations with such passion that you couldn't help but get excited about every option. It's rare to meet someone who so clearly loves what they do, and his knowledge and personality elevated our entire dining experience. We started with the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo and the Woodfired Oysters. The tuna, paired with delicate slices of cantaloupe, sounded like an unusual combination on paper, but somehow it was absolute perfection. Every bite was fresh, bright, and beautifully balanced. The oysters arrived warm, buttery, and perfectly seasoned--simple, yet incredibly satisfying. For my entrée, I ordered the Seared Diver Scallops served over creamed corn. I'll admit, I was hesitant because creamed corn has never been one of my favorites. But after Chris encouraged me to trust the dish--and after seeing how incredible the appetizers were--I went for it. I'm so glad I did. The scallops were perfectly seared, tender, and sweet, while the creamed corn was rich, fresh, and nothing like the version I had imagined. It completely changed my mind. My husband chose the Rabbit Roulade, which was cooked beautifully with just the right amount of spice to keep each bite interesting without overwhelming the dish. We also shared the Hearth-Baked Skillet Cornbread, and if you're debating whether to order it...don't. Just do it. It's absolutely worth it. Then came dessert. Chris walked us through several tempting options, including a mud pie, a watermelon ice pie, and a peach cobbler, along with Husk's house-made ice creams featuring flavors like Chocolate Peanut Butter and Key Lime Pie (plus a refreshing fruit sorbet). We settled on the Peach Cobbler along with scoops of the Chocolate Peanut Butter and Key Lime Pie ice creams. Every single bite was phenomenal. The cobbler tasted like summer in a bowl, while both ice creams were so flavorful and creamy that we kept passing them back and forth trying to decide which one we liked better. Spoiler alert: we never could. From the stunning historic setting and exceptional service to the thoughtfully crafted food, Husk delivered an experience that reminded us why Charleston has become such an incredible food destination. This location came highly recommended by my hairstylist, who has exceptional taste in food. Unfortunately, we couldn't get a reservation at our usual dinner time, so we decided to try just a few items. We ordered the cornbread, which I had high hopes for; it was decently flavored but a bit on the dry side. The deviled eggs were delicious, though they were slightly too spicy for our liking. We finished them anyway. For dessert, we opted for the chocolate mint grasshopper dessert, which was absolutely phenomenal. Ordering drinks was a bit more challenging. Although they carry Licor 43, I was told they don't offer the Carajillo since they don't have coffee on-site. I found this strange because they did make an espresso martini for me. The waiter explained that they don't have the machine on-site but source nitro coffee from an alternative supplier. The wait was worth it. I've been wanting to come here for five years and I finally dined at this perfect restaurant on my recent trip to Charleston. We started off with drinks at the Husk bar next door and the drinks were phenomenal. We sat on the front porch of the restaurant until our table is ready and had a wonderful view of Queen Street. Everything about the meal was spectacular. We sat upstairs next to a window and had a great view of Queen Street again. Impeccable brunch!! I had a reservation on a Sunday morning. I was promptly seated downstairs. The interior is feminine and beautiful. The service felt personal and welcoming. I tried the omelette which was stuffed with asparagus, Boursin cheese and caramelized onion. It was fluffy, light and salty. Also ordered a side of biscuits with strawberry jam which wasn't overly sweet and balanced out the butteriness. The husk mimosa was a hit as well. Husk was a fun experience. We sat outside on the upstairs balcony, which was quite lovely. The ambiance is a perfect Charleston feel. The service was ok, our waitress was not the most pleasant, but that's not a deal breaker. The food was very good. We had the biscuits as an appetizer. They were tasty, and the butter was phenomenal, however, for the price , I would expect more than 2 medium size biscuits. For our entree we had the burger. The burger patties are cooked with bacon, which gave them a unique but delicious flavor. It certainly was a lot of food with the fries, so we definitely had leftovers. Went for the first time and it did not disappoint! Seems to me like a quintessential Charleston restaurant. We were able to get a reservation last minute and so glad we did! The inside is beautiful, the service was attentive. We got the crudo, tar tar, ribeye, skillet corn bread (like a warm hug), cabbage pancake with crab meat, and the scallops. Based purely on food, I would give this place a 3 star, but the amazing service bumped it up to a 4 star rating. First of all, it's a beautiful space. The converted house is airy, bright, and spacious. It seems that everyone had the same dishes on their tables for brunch, ie the shrimp & grits, and the fried chicken & waffles. I opted for the former, and pork dirty rice as I am a bit "fried chicken'd out" at this point of our southern trip. The grits were great, definitely lived up the hype. Meanwhile, the rice dish was really really spicy and I normally can handle spicy food quite well. Our server was so incredibly sweet and accommodating. She offered to bring another dish, or get me something else to go. She went above and beyond and I am super appreciative of her effort. Southern brunch done right. Everyone at our table loved their dishes, especially the shrimp and grits and fried chicken and biscuits. The grits were creamy, not too heavy and complimented the shrimp perfectly. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, brined well with some subtle rosemary aromatics. Biscuit was fluffy but dense in all the right ways. Bloody Mary mix was seasoned well and let the tomato flavor shine. We also tried the coffee cake and deviled eggs - coffee cake was good and the deviled egg yolk mix was a bit denser than expected. Space is beautiful and we were seated upstairs and on a nice day so the French doors to the balcony porch was open. Service was friendly and prompt. Visited here for the first time this weekend as I saw how Christmassy it was and couldn't resist! And the Christmas decor did NOT disappoint! Was immediately seated at our reservation time and had the most lovely lady as our waitress. Service was amazing and everyone in there is very kind. Food was great, perfect portion sizes and timing of the food was ideal as well. The cornbread with the butter was so light and to die for and was the perfect pair to my pretty heavy pasta I ordered. Unable to get a reservation at Husk during our recent trip to Charleston, but I was persistent and checked daily during our stay...Apparently they do get cancellations (very infrequently), but I was able to get a reservation at 5:15 the same day I checked their website!!! It's a Michelin recommended restaurant and certainly deserves a star in my opinion .... Everything was spot on with scrumptious food, lovely ambiance and amazing service! SO and I were in Charleston for a few days and dined at Husk, one of Anthony Bourdain's stops. We started with the country ham and yellowfin crudo, both of which provided a variety of flavors and were fun to eat. For entrees, we had the scallops and wreckfish, both of which were perfectly seared and epitomized how seriously this establishment takes its seafood dishes. We probably would have had drinks and dessert if we could have gotten an earlier reservation, but we had an early flight back home the next morning. We arrived at 10:05am for our 10:15 reservation. The restaurant was 90% empty. Hostess told us she had to seat the 10:00 reservations first. No one else was in line! I asked again to please be seated and was told that we could go next door to the bar and wait. It's now 10:11 and I go back to the manager at the desk , ask if she would seat us. I was pretty underwhelmed by the brunch. I had heard some amazing things about this restaurant and there was nothing really special about the meal. Especially with so many amazing restaurants downtown. Everything was good and the service was good, but nothing stood out to me. I think everyone at our table tried a different brunch dish. My wife and I recently went to Husk for a weekend dinner and had a good experience. We first went to Husk's patio and bar while we waited for our reservation, and got the field green salad and the Parker House rolls with pimento cheese and pickles. The pimento cheese with chili crisp and the pickles were the stars- the cheese was rich and creamy with a good flavor kick from the chili crisp, and the pickles were perfectly cured and seasoned. The Parker House rolls and the salad were OK, although unremarkable. The bar overall had a good ambiance, although the lighting was so dim that it was difficult to read our menu and order. Husk has a nice ambiance with low lighting and nice placesettings. Our service was fine, although it did take almost 25 minutes for our first dishes to come out despite the restaurant not being at capacity. I started with the skillet corn bread and was very excited as it was cooked with duck fat (something I've never seen before). However, I couldn't taste the duck fat, the cornbread was dry, it needed more butter, and it didn't pair well with other dishes. I got the chicken-fried rabbit for my main dish. The rabbit was well-cooked but not noteworthy. The gumbo had good flavor but was extremely salty, and the grits could have added more to the dish. This dish also needed more of a fresh vegetable and acid element to cut through the fattiness and heaviness of the gumbo, rabbit, and grits. For dessert, we shared the corn miso ice cream and the apple blondie, both of which were delicious, creamy, and had the right amount of sweetness. There is a restaurant, with a bar next door. We checked out the bar. It's got a massive menu of drinks - wines, champagnes, and cocktails. There are TONS of drink options. Bartenders are very friendly, professional and chatty. They make drinks properly with fresh housemade ingredients. Not store bought mixers. Another delicious meal at Husk. This was my first brunch at Husk and we loved every minute!!! My friends and I went to Husk for brunch close to Christmas time and thank goodness we got there early! It was 2nd Sunday and it got really busy! I had the shrimp and grits and I could not have chosen better. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the flavors complemented each other well. We loved this place. This is in a quaint house in the middle of the French Quarter. Having a reservation is a must. The hostess was extremely sweet and surprised me with some ice cold water while sitting on the porch because I didn't think about putting sunscreen on earlier that day at the beach.... Oops! We got a half order of the crab which was honestly hard to eat. They crack the shells for you but maybe a little too much in ours. There were tiny shells all in it! For dinner my husband got the trout fish of the day. He normally isn't a big fish guy but absolutely loved it and had great flavor. I had the pork chop which was just falling off the bone. Right when you walk up to husk, you know it's going to be amazing. This restaurant is inside a plantation home. The host was extremely friendly and so was our server. We started with the tuna tartare and pimento cheese and biscuits with ham. Then we had scallops and the pastrami rubbed beef for dinner. Dessert.......don't sleep on these...omg. The Elvis ice box cake and yes it had bacon bits on it and then the German chocolate cake, which isn't a looker, but tasted amazing. Came here for dinner on a Tuesday and it was very busy, but we had a reservation. It's in a beautiful old house with nice decor, but the acoustics were terrible. We could hear everything everyone else was saying, and it was difficult to hear others at our own table. The rock music did not help the cacophonous ambience. We ordered the deviled eggs which were tasty and the mushrooms. Some mushrooms came in a creamy sauce which tasted fine, but the other mushrooms were fried and bland. Our entrees were the rabbit, snapper, and scallops with sides of dirty rice, grits, and cabbage. The meat was tender and there were some nice flavors. The dishes were all decent, but very rich and heavy. So, if you like the feeling of that in your stomach, this place is for you. Our server was nice but a bit officious. We didn't see reservations online so we stopped in while walking in the area and they were able to give us one that evening. Service was impeccable. The food was not as amazing as I had hoped. My veggies with the chicken were too salty to eat but the chicken was amazingly moist and delicious. I tried the fish and that was really good as well. The Mockingbird sounded weird and I didn't like the taste. But my husband thought it was fine. So, personal tastes play a role in what you might think. read more

More hype than actual performance, Husk was a bit of a letdown imo. My last dinner in Charleston, I found myself at the original Husk. Farm to table 'elevated southern cuisine' was hard to resist. Yet, after each bite, I found myself wondering if things could be ever so slightly improved. Of what I sampled, I'd probably recommend the pork chop, although not quite a must-have. Service was on point. I never found myself waiting or wanting. Prices were 'elevated' for the quality provided, however, the portions were fair. Ah yes, the "farm-to-table" movement. This was such the buzz during the 2010's (and maybe even earlier?). Cynics might say that it's just an excuse to jack up the price for everything. Now, is this the best place I've ever been to? No, but this was a very solid start to a Charleston trip. The enoki mushroom tempura with egg custard and mushroom broth. While I normally would not order this starter at a non-Asian restaurant, this was a pretty good offering. With mushrooms, you get a lot of savory notes, and this was no exception. The crispy mushrooms contrasted with the flavorful broth well. While I like egg and the egg custard provided a little more added dimension, it wasn't entirely necessary. The wreckfish was nicely seared, while being tender inside. It's a more neutral whitefish, so it didn't have a flavor that necessarily stood out, but it was clean. The winter squash and mushrooms gave the dish a more hearty but not overwhelming accompaniment. The fried apple pie a little take from what I'd normally get. Someone might say it's just a McDonald's apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on top, but this one is much flaky and had a robust apple-y filling. The apples kept their structural integrity, which is a good thing, as apple filling that disintegrates isn't quite as good. The service was rather strong, as I had a lot of staff serve my dishes and I got a lot of attention during the visit. The decor is lovely and I enjoyed sitting on the covered outside deck. The restaurant had some classy Christmas decorations, which gave it an even warmer feel. read more
