Everything about this restaurant is wonderful! The breakfast is an A+. The sausage and bacon were top notch. Pancakes, grits and hash browns were perfection. At dinner, the drunken mussels and fresh flounder was out of this world! The cream of crab soup was amazing! (We got bowls to take back home). We will visit Fin & Crab on each visit to Charleston and highly recommend them for their excellent service and food! Came here for the gator bites not realizing it's under new ownership. While the gator bites are no longer available, the blackened shrimp tacos and shrimp and grits were delicious. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, which is important. The decor needs a bit of sprucing up, but that doesn't matter the most. read more

This is our second time at Fin & Crab. We used to come twice per month when it was Marina Variety Store, which we loved. The wait time for food was very long. We waited for 45 minutes. The place was empty (Marina was always super busy). The prices much higher and although most dishes tasted great, for the price, I would say it was mediocre. There is also less variety on the menu. I wish they would revert back to Marina Variety Store. read more

It's not fair! This place is doing its best. I am guilty as well. They have cleaned up the place, have tasty options, and the perfect ambiance for a waterfront restaurant with giant windows. No better view downtown that can be seen from any table. Just incredible. I used to go about once a quarter to Variety Store because of this view and consistently decent food. Not the interior. Now it has it all and yes, more expensive but everywhere is on the peninsula. Give this place another chance. My loaded BLT had an immense piece of fried chicken on it. Use the Dukes Mayo for perfect balance. Bring a friend and split it. And the has browns were cooked perfectly. Bambi was efficient and helpful and needs more customers to keep her happy so she sticks around. I will make an effort to stop in more often. The space is now clean, bright, and inviting, with a polished-but-relaxed coastal feel that finally matches its unbeatable location. The menu stays true to what worked--familiar favorites, solid seafood, and crowd-pleasers--without trying too hard or losing its identity. Sometimes you don't need a reinvention; you just need execution done right. And the view? Absolutely unmatched. Watching boats drift in and out of the marina with the Charleston skyline and water stretching out in front of you reminds you why this spot should always have been special. It's one of those places where you catch yourself lingering longer than planned--drink in hand, breeze coming off the water, thinking, oh... this is what it was supposed to be. This was the best food we had in Charleston! Everything we had was a culinary delight. Went there twice for dinner because it was that good. Unknowingly we met the new owners who sat next to us both nights and were just a pleasure to talk to. Talking to the help they all seemed to like the change in the ownership. We had oysters, crab soup, green fried tomatoes, peel and eat shrimp, shrimp and grits, seafood fritters, French fries, fried okra, and crabcakes. Change is hard for a city with Charlestons History. The Variety Store is gone. To opine, the MVS had been around my whole life in one way or another. It was a place that if you were familiar with, felt like your Grandmother's kitchen. You knew from the time you walked in it was well worn and had that low country feel of comfort. No pretense. You knew the staff and the food was one of the best kept secrets around. You thought to yourself, the bathrooms are gross, but you put up with them because everything else was easy. Food, staff, seating, all easy and satisfying. The MVS was a comfortable place with a locals feel. No one looked down on you if you had been on a boat all day, were tired disheveled and hungry.(I don't think the new guys would look down on you either.) The new folks are giving it a go. I had heard the food was average. I waited awhile to let them get in a rhythm. The one meal I had was just that. Average. Maybe C+. . My friend gives it a B-. The prices had to go up( gas is 5 bucks). Cannot blame them for that. The inside is different, which is fine. The windows still look at the marsh and bay. The wait staff are good and I'm sure everyone there from the owners to the kitchen are feeling the pressure. Being that it is on the outside of downtown, currently kind of average and many locals still grumpy over the change the new guys have big shoes to fill. If your a tourist, you may find it really good. Your in CHS so have fun. I'll try breakfast and another meal, but it will take a lot to regain the reliable feel and comfort that was MVS. But , if it stays average,I'll go downtown. Might as well pay a buck or two more to be in the action if you want average or above. read more

Ignore anything negative you might see in reviews. As a lifelong charlestonian I can tell you it's great to have the Marina Variety Store back to what it used to be. When I was a kid we used to come for special treats. Guess what, it's that good and more. The portions are ridiculously generous and the prices are real world for today. You get what you pay for! This is not exorbitantly overpriced, particularly for downtown Charleston. The view is outstanding. The wait staff is great. Absolutely loved it and would encourage everyone to try it. HOWEVER now the staff has changed over and the new owners I would compare to the old bathrooms that use to be there. It's really sad for our community that this has happened. I had a 12:15 reservation through Resy and came in for lunch expecting a smooth and enjoyable experience. After being seated outside, our table ordered Bloody Marys and a dozen oysters to start. Unfortunately, things went downhill immediately. The Bloody Marys, priced at $16 and advertised with fixings like jalapeño bacon and pickled okra, were served in plastic cups with none of those additions and tasted extremely watered down, lacking both flavor and quality. When we brought this to the server's attention, the response was simply that they were "1.5 oz pours," which did not address the issue at all. What followed was an unreasonably long wait, nearly an hour for the oysters and over an hour for our meals, with no communication, updates, or acknowledgment of the delay. At that point, it became clear that the level of service being provided was far below what should be expected, especially with a reservation in place. To make matters worse, when my eggs Benedict finally arrived, the egg was completely cooked through rather than runny, which is a pretty basic expectation for that dish. I brought it to the attention of the manager, and her response was simply "okay," with no offer to remake it or correct the issue. That lack of accountability and effort to fix a clear mistake was honestly the most disappointing part of the entire experience. Between the extremely long wait times, underwhelming drinks, and the lack of response from management, the overall experience fell far below expectations. I understand that restaurants can get busy, but communication and basic service recovery go a long way, and neither was present here. We had a friend visiting from out of town and were excited to bring him to what used to be one of our favorite spots. Unfortunately, today's experience at Fin & Crab fell far below expectations, and we will not be returning. read more

I stopped in after the long wait for the reopening. The Mussels were fantastic- much like the closed Bonne Franquette which I miss. The crab cake was the best I have had in Charleston full of Lump Crab. The location redo is wonderful! The booths were hard to scoot into and I prefer the tables. It cleans up the view. They also have bar seating in the restaurant if you are a single and just want a good meal. I did go to breakfast Sunday and they were having kitchen issues but we did get a great omelet before they had to close for the day. I am sure they have their issues resolved. The prices may be higher but the food is better, the bathrooms are so much better and clean. And the wonky stairs have been redone for normal human sized feet! Staff was very friendly and service was great even when they had the kitchen issues. read more

Everything. Food menu went downhill after the head chef quit, and yet they double the prices! Downstairs "Mikes" is the same. Marina Variety was one of our breakfast club's favorite! We were anxious to try Fin & Crab, even after seeing many negative reviews. We are so pleased!
