This was one of the best burgers I've ever had! The patties have those crispy thin edges that you just can't put down. I also loved that the fries are crinkle cut. We drove straight here on our way into town on a Friday afternoon. It was jumping, but we managed to find parking in their lot, which is a nice size! We sat at the bar and placed our to go order. I ordered the classic Barburger and my boyfriend had the Uncle Gene's. I did order bacon but I didn't get it, which is okay except it was $3. All good. They have a nice selection of beers which is obviously a standout for this spot. Loved the cool, old school diner feel inside. Highly recommend!
This place was great!! We went around lunch time and it wasn't too busy! We did however have to sit at a tall table with another party on the other end, so if that bothers you then you may have to wait for the next available table. But our server was great -and we LOVED the Heavy's sauce!! A great lunch vibey spot just a bit away from downtown.
After hearing that this is the best burger in Charleston for months, I finally got to eat at Heavy's! We were quickly met by the hostess and were seated immediately outside which is what we wanted, so it was great. Service overall was pretty quick. The only reason I'm docking 1 star is because we ordered a bottle of rosé and it was not chilled or anything. Which is fine because we are not picky customers and it is pretty casual dining, and we just needed some ice, but it would have been nice to have the wine chilled. Especially because the price of the food and everything is high for a burger joint, but again, it wasn't a huge deal! The burger was delicious! I got the barburger and it had great flavors and a yummy sauce on it. The fries were also crisped to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The food was really good! I will definitely be returning!
First time at this location. I've been to the Daniel Island location once before. Both are great locations with awesome food and service!
My favorite burger in Charleston hands down. Heavy's is all you can ask for in a burger joint, no frills, a menu that isn't full of "fluff" and a real good burger! Perfectly smashed patties, fresh ingredients and a soft, but hearty sesame bun makes a "simple" burger a work of art, pair that with their crunchy jumbo onion rings and their homemade dipping sauces and you got a meal you will be dreaming about. A negative that can plague a Downtown restaurant is always the parking, but with an onsite lot, and street parking sandwiching heavy's, finding a spot is never a problem. On the smaller side, a wait is almost always expected, especially on a colder or rainy day, but never longer than 15-20 minutes, and with a full bar grabbing a drink makes the time pass faster while waiting to be seated.
A day at the aquarium? AND when it's pretty outside? This calls for a truck bed picnic, featuring Heavy's! They are super convenient to access with their big gravel parking lot and ordering online option. Food was ready after about 15 minutes (on a busy Saturday lunch rush) and was so good. Our group got the OG barburger (classic burger kinda vibe) and the uncle Gene's Ranchero (think sweet and Smokey). The produce and condiments to ration of burger were perfect and they hit the spot. We also got the sweet potato fries, regular fries, and a side of onion rings. Don't be deceived by the order of onion rings only being 5 - they are big around as a desert plate. Everything was flavored great, the onion batter slightly sweet to complement the onion. The sweet potato fries slightly charred to complement the sweetness. And my picky toddlers DOWNED the entire fry bag by themselves. See you next aquarium day Heavy's!
Went to Heavy's for the first time today-right around noon. Parking was tough, but we found a spot. There is limited seating inside, but ample seating outside. The weather was perfect so we sat outside. I had the Bar burger-single patty with sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious and the single patty was all I needed. The Heavy's sauce is delicious and they didn't overload it. My nephew had the kids chicken which was a very good serving side for a kid. Our server was greats friendly and welcoming and kept water bottles coming. They even bring water for dogs. The prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious. A must try in Charleston!
Forewarning: burgers taste delicious and are messy! The burgers were smashed style and the sweet potato fries were so good. Honestly the sweet potatoe fries were the best side out of the regular fries and coleslaw. If your in the mood for a good burger I highly recommend this place. The onion rings were also very good appetizer. The batter was crispy and thin. The server was super nice and answered any questions I had about the menu.
The salad was delicious. The chicken had wonderful flavor and I enjoyed their dressing. Service was friendly and fast. It a cute little restaurant with plenty of parking and a front deck for outdoor sitting. If you have not tried Heavy's Barburger give it a try.

Going in to eat a simple burger and having expectations exceeded was the experience I had coming to this place. From the chili, to the burger and even the margarita, it was all very delicious. The margarita was surprisingly better than I expected like it was made by people that love making cocktails. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The chili, which was an afterthought option, was tasty with a bit of spice that wasn't overwhelming. What an awesome spot for delicious food & SURPRISINGLY tasty margaritas. Great menu variety at Heavy's! From salads to sides and main events they got ya covered. Big perk is the private gravel parking. Upon entering you seat yourself, if able to find a spot because this place can get pretty busy. After finding a seat, a few minutes later one of the servers brought us a bottle of water and placed our drink order. My fiancé and I shared a $24 pitcher of beer that yielded around 2 drinks per person. The selection of local beers is appealing and good value for the pitcher. For appetizer, we tried their onion rings which were spectacular! Generous round onions and lightly battered, the $8 small basket can feed around 2-3 people. For the entree I noticed the patty melt which is my go-to and my fiancé went with the bacon onion burger. The patty melt itself was so juicy and soft, 20/10, loved every bite of it! We were interested in the lemon box pie but learned later it was never placed on the tab so didn't get a chance to try it. It was for the better because the meal itself was filling. Service was friendly and quick to order. I think we were around a timeshift change because our 2 rotating servers never came back to close the check. We figured we would approach the counter to close the check and pay but learned that the counter was for takeout only. Waited a little bit longer until we approached another staff member to pay for our meal to leave.
Was craving good burger and went to this place. I was absolutely delighted at how delicious the burgers were! I usually never finish my food because I get full really quick but I ate everything on that plate. The food also cane out fast and it's a great place to go to if you want a comfortable sit down place with amazing burgers.

Wow. I was not expecting to be THIS impressed with a burger joint, but here we are! My husband and I came in on a crowded Friday night. We started with some of the best and definitely BIGGEST onion rings I've ever had in my life!! They were coated in a thick delicious batter, perfectly fried and served with two dipping sauces. I already want to come back just to have these again! Then we both ordered the barburger and a side of sweet potato fries to share. The burger was amazing and had that "melt-in-your-mouth" taste I couldn't get enough of; we were both talking about this burger for days! And the sweet potato fries were also perfect. They didn't forget to make the sides just as good as the entrees here. We'll be back sooner than later. Definitely check this place out if you're a burger fanatic! ;) read more
We met our son here the first night visiting him in Charleston. It was a perfect spot to go after a long travel day. We started with deviled eggs and we each ordered smash burgers with fries. Everything was so tasty. We will be back the next time we are in town. read more

Heavy's Barburger is hands down the best burger we've had since moving to the Charleston area 8 years ago. The service is quick and friendly, which always makes a difference. We stopped in during happy hour and scored a $5 margarita (huge win), and overall the prices are very reasonable. I ordered the original burger and it was incredible--especially with their signature Heavy's sauce. We also tried the onion rings, which I don't usually go for, but these completely changed my mind. They were super crunchy and packed with flavor. And of course, I have to mention--they're pet friendly with plenty of outdoor seating, which is always a huge plus for us. Ambiance is nice and inviting! Inside isn't very big just keep that in mind. This is a must-try spot! read more

Snuck in here on a Saturday, it was PACKED. We were able to grab a couple seats at the bar. Food was good- just some elevated bar food but it tasted fresh and I liked the sweet potato fries- they were salted well and not too fried. The ambiance is LOUD- they had the music blasting so if you are hard of hearing, this is not the place for you. They do have a lot of outdoor seating but inside is pretty small and limited seating. read more

I was told that Heavy's had the best smashburger in Charleston. It is definitely true. I had the basic cheeseburger, and it was the best smashburger I have ever had. It was perfectly done, with the crispy edges. Hubby had the red ranger, and he thought that was good also. The onion rings and french fries were delicious. We took advantage of happy hour, and you cannot beat a $5 margarita. They don't skimp on the alcohol. They also have my Firefly sweet tea vodka, which made me so happy. We finished the meal off with the lemon lime icebox pie. Wow, that was amazing. The only thing better than the food was the service. David was our server and he made sure we had everything we needed. Food came out so fast. We cannot wait to go back. read more

I'm definitely a smash burger type of girl. I've been hearing such great things about Heavys and I was super excited to visit and they did not disappoint. I was surprised at how good the wings were and the onion rings. Definitely the smash burger stole the show. Heavys will definitely go on my list of best places to get burgers in the city. read more

We walked past this handsome place last week so decided to try it out today for a late lunch. Great vibes and wonderful service. We were seated and served IMMEDIATELY. The food is great! Look, I get it. Smash burgers are a thing. A thin, crispy-edged, beefy creation meant to be enjoyed with fries, a cold drink, and maybe a side of regret later. But when the bill arrived, I realized I could've gone somewhere else and had a half-pound burger with all the fixings for less than what I paid here--without having to assemble my meal like it was sold in parts. The food? It was fine. Just fine. Not "call your friends and demand they try this" fine, but more "well, I ate it" fine. The fries and onion rings played their roles adequately, the drinks did their job, and the burgers? They smashed. Were they life-changing? No. But they existed. The service was solid--no complaints there. But the noise level? That was a different story. It wasn't the crowd causing the ruckus; it was the music. The kind of loud that makes you yell across the table like you're negotiating a hostage situation. I like a lively atmosphere, but I also like leaving a restaurant with my hearing intact. So, was it terrible? No. Would I go back? Maybe--if someone else was paying. If you're really into smash burgers and don't mind the price tag creeping up on you like a ninja, go for it. First impression when I walked in to the restaurant is it smells like pee. Bathroom was very dirty. The food was salty!!! The food was HEAVY on salt hence the name! The onion rings were my favorite. Definitely get that. Bacon and eggs and chili were good too. But our main entrees were all salted up. Prime Rib was inedible. Fried Chicken Salad also salty. You have to eat plenty of salad with a bite of chicken or you'll just taste salty fried chicken. The Barburger was at least edible unlike the Prime Rib but was also salty. The service was great in taking care of our entree that was inedible and too salty. But it's quick service. They were busy. read more

We've been to Heavy's Barburger many times, and the quality is consistently great. Their margarita is one of the best--fresh, strong, and well-balanced. We usually start with the "eggs and bacon," their deviled eggs. My boyfriend always orders a smash burger, which is reliably crispy and juicy. I had the BLT and chili on our last visit, and both were solid and well-prepared. The standout item every time is the lemon pie--bright, smooth, and easily their best dessert. The atmosphere is lively and upbeat but still comfortable, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy a meal. Their service is also always top tier, with the nicest staff. After so many recs from friends, we finally tried it. The burgers are straight-up battle tested - literally. They're previous winners of the Holy City Burger Battle and officially one of my favorites. There's outdoor seating as well and it's a pretty laidback atmosphere. Glad we finally tried Heavy's, and we'll probably try again, but our first impression was HOLY SALT... We both got the barburger, and I thought maybe it was just mine, so I didn't say anything, then my dining partner mentioned theirs was super salty... then the woman at the table next to us told the waiter hers was super salty! So I don't know if this was just a bad afternoon with a loose salt shaker lid, or is this normal? Other than that, it was great. I'm not even usually averse to salty, I have a salt tooth instead of a sweet tooth, and this was too salty. Lots of great flavors happening on the burger once you move past the salt. read more
This is my go to burger place in Charleston. They have the best burger and onion rings in the city. From start to finish this place is the best. They have their own parking which is a must in Charleston. They are a bit north of downtown Charleston so it's removed from that crowd but a great locals place. Staff are wonderful and make the best cocktails. A great burger joint with a full bar and great beer selections. We'll continue stopping in. read more
Just what the hangover doctor recommended! Smash burger- Juicy with those crispy edges- loads of tasty toppings. Friendly greeting, super solid sodas (just the right fizz- iykyk). Crispy hot crinkle fries. Sooo needed and soooo good! The winner on winner for me was their chili. A little spicy and a lot of flavor. The "cheese-pull" would give any New York pizza some serious cheese envy!! Will make this our go-to airport ride must stop destination. read more
The salad is incredible, which is funny because I wouldn't normally go to a burger place for salad, but this one is outstanding. Honey mustard dressing and crunchy topping plus cool cucumber with crisp lettuce. Salad here is a 10 out of 10. Our waitress was also outstanding. She was so friendly and helpful. We were hungry, tired, and in a little bit of a hurry. She got us our food fast and checked in on us. Kid friendly and a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend! read more
