Great brunch/lunch game here! There's even outdoor seating if you want fresh air or you can dine inside by the window and bask in the sunshine indoors. I even popped some in my grits for a sweet GF treat. The omelette was a nice portion and I had some leftovers. The bloody Mary was a little too horseradish forward for my taste but was packed with a really nice garden and bacon strip for garnish which was a MUST for this brunch bevy! This was my second time her outside of Yelp events. Our server Jasmine was very friendly. I was meeting 10 networking friends, so we took the tables to the side of the bar. As for my food this visit I had a baby beignet. They were tiny compared to the last time I was here!! I also ordered the Peacemaker. You get to pick two different Benedicts. I did the chicken and the tomatoes. The sauces on both were good. My first bite of egg, I got a big piece of shell. That's never pleasant. The tomatoes were alright. It's not really tomato season, so bad pick on my part. I brought the leftover chicken and biscuit home. I diced it up a couple different times and it was really good. During our visit on a Friday in April, they were out of breakfast potatoes and something else we tried to order. It offers parking in a section of west Ashley where parking is key. Ugh, with mixed emotions I write this review. I was so looking forward to having brunch here on Valentine's day with my hubby. I made reservations through the Yelp app, which is a great idea. Please do so before coming here. When we walked in, we could tell that they were very busy as the hostess was not at her station and apparently was busy cleaning off several tables.. please hire a buser.. I say we waited about ten minutes, and several servers, including the hostess walked past us and didn't even acknowledge our presence. They could have at least said "Good morning. Someone will be with you in a moment", But they didn't. We were not the only ones waiting by the door, there were at least seven others plus people waiting outside. When the hostess finally made it to the station, I had to get her attention to tell her that we had reservations. She looked up our name to confirm and then, sat us at a table next to the waitress station and entrance to the kitchen. Not a great location, but was just happy to have a place to sit down. So we can get our brunch ordered. There were also several other tables that were available. Our server finally showed up with a frown on her face. She handed us the menus and said she'd be back to take our order. I smiled and said thank you and received no response. She came back a few minutes later and took our order. Still no smile on her face. She must not like her job. I tried to keep my attitude positive and friendly; but, it didn't seem to work for her. I ordered the irish coffee and my husband ordered decaf coffee. For brunch, we both ordered the One Tomato Two Tomato benny, that consists of fried green tomatoes on a biscuit with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I ordered mine without the biscuit. My husband kept it as is. When our food finally came out, it looked amazing. I quickly broke the poached egg open to see if it was cooked correctly. It was! Nice and runny the way it's supposed to be. Then I took a bite. It was lukewarm almost cold. Ugh!!! So disappointing! I wasn't gonna send it back because I was too hungry. My husband's dish was also lukewarm and and basically cold. His biscuit was dry and hard as a rock. He could barely cut through it. He ended up not eating. Since our server's attitude was not the best, I didn't want to risk sending our food back. It really is a cute little restaurant. And we may try it again. If you want a great Benedict come here! I love that you can do a Benedict combo with any two of the Benedict on the menu on one plate. I wish that they would come with sides but now I just get to choose my own. Always start with some sort of beignet sweet item to begin with and then switched to a savory Benedict. They have great drink menu with a full bar and they even validate parking. I've come to the West Ashley location only but can't wait to try the one downtown. The server was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the spiced latte that was delicious. For an appetizer we got an order of beignets for the table. The kids ate a few, but they needed to rise more and be cooked a little longer. I ordered a BLT and my daughter ordered the kids cinnamon swirl pancakes. The BLT needed more toppings and sauce. So this Ruby sunshine was a bit of a miss for me. There were some things they did right some things that were wrong. We arrived for brunch and it was fairly busy seven or eight couples waiting, but there was no hostess. The hostess was busy cleaning and busing tables. I think the thing number one is you need a bus boy. No one greeted us even when the hostess came over. We had to get her attention. However, once we told her we had reservations she seated us immediately. The wait staff looked like they were walking all over themselves. They were a bit discombobulated. Perhaps assigning the specific sections would be helpful. The food did come out fairly quickly however ours was lukewarm. The biscuit that came out with my food was also rock hard, I couldn't cut it with a knife. The eggs, however, were poached perfectly, and the waitress was attentive. I think the ambience could use a little help. I really don't enjoy seeing stacked up crates and containers and the waitress station in plain sight with dirty dishes stuff piled in. This was our first time at this location for eating we will give the other Ruby sunshine location to try and see if it's just the staff. I will say the menu selection and the items and creativity make it really interesting. If they prepare it correctly and it's not lukewarm. I bet it would be amazing. read more

Ruby Sunshine is such a fun vibe. It's a Cajun brunch spot with great drinks. The servers are super nice. I stopped in recently for a yelp event and I was able to try a couple of things on the menu. I recommend the shrimp and grits and the beignets just melt in your mouth, so don't forget to grab some of those! I had a pretty nice peach Bellini as well. Such a great breakfast! The beignets were very light and not too dense. I ordered the very berry stuffed french toast which was fabulous! I will say that the cheesecake filling was a little bit too much, but other than that, it was perfect! I expected a charming brunch place but this restaurant looked more like a fast food restaurant. However, the food was very good and the service was great. I've been to both of the Ruby Sunshine locations in the area and while they are both great, this one is more convenient for me. There is parking right outside but make sure you pay on the app because the company that checks will come for you. Inside they have tons of space and a big bar as well. It's great that they do brunch but also have an extensive drink selection. I love the one that's like a boozy iced coffee. For food, I generally go for the Benny's. They do a bunch of different ones and I'm still trying to narrow down my favorite. read more

The ambiance of this spot is wonderful... however I did not enjoy my dining experience at all. My waitress was wonderful.... But the person that seemed to be the manager was rude to the staff which was noticeable when I walked in. The mimosa flight was ok - all of the flavors were too sweet in my opinion. Additionally the glasses were dirty and there was something (still have no idea what it was) floating around in one of the mimosas. I showed it to the waitress and she mentioned it might have been a piece of bread..?? WTH is bread doing in a drink, and how did whoever poured it not see it? They also don't have great options for people who don't eat pork (me). The best thing I ate was the fried green tomatoes. They were pretty good. The best part was sitting on the patio. Our food took over an hour to come - and was still not worth it. The Benedict sauce was watery with no flavor., the eggs were fried instead of poached because they were rushing. Something is seriously wrong with the kitchen here. I love beignets and have been happy with other Ruby Sunshine locations. However, what was served here was easily the worst beignets I've ever had and that includes the result of me trying to make them myself. They arrived at our table thin and hard as a cracker completely soaked in oil with sugar only on half of them. Why would you serve something this obviously messed up? There was absolutely no rise and it didn't take biting into one to tell that either the batter was off or the fryer was wrong or both. We sent them back to the kitchen and our waitress said we'd get a new batch. The rest of the meal was...fine. The pancakes, bacon, grits, and iced coffee were quality, but all of the proteins were lacking in portion sizes. The biscuit had zero rise or layers to it. It was just greasy and dense. The bigger issue though was that everything else fried was also soaked in oil. The catfish was beyond greasy and my French toast bites (which I didn't realize would be fried) had soaked up the oil completely. It was nauseating. Our second batch of beignets didn't come out until after we asked for the check. They were comped which is great but the new ones were still hard as a rock and inedible. The waitstaff was very nice and the ambiance was fine. It was clean and bright so no issues there. However, the first person we saw when we entered was who I assumed to be the manager of the place. She glared at us and without saying a word just sort of left us standing there until our waitress sat us. No idea what's going on there as she spent the morning behind the bar looking like she hates life. Long story short, waitress was great and some items were good but I'd never go back here given how many other places there are to try in the area. I'd rather be told the fryer isn't working than to be charged for inedible food. read more

Food should be served right away. It was already getting cold. Cook should learn what medium eggs are and order should be checked by manager on way out. Cheese in grits means cheese not sprinkle. However, the manager did own the error and did good service recovery. In addition, the head of servers walked away cussing a customer where I could hear as she visually looked angry as well. Bad when a customer sees and hears discomfort that it was very nasty. Service was slow even though we were a few of first customers. read more

I know that's a dish they are known for! My drink was so refreshing & had the perfect mix of alcohol and sprits to it. My friends LOVED the mimosa flight; it was pretty strong so if that's something you're into then it wouldn't be a bad choice to get that. The only drink out of that flight that was a little dissatisfying over the others was the light red one! This location is surrounding a beautiful area and is walking distance to the pier! The food and service here was amazing. I highly recommend the Trifecta of you like benedicts. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding pancakes are ridiculously good. If you're not an alcohol fan, get the sauce on the side because you can definitely taste the whiskey in it. They also have maple syrup. Our server, Cash, was super friendly, and very funny. The puppers got us up super early this past Saturday, and my husband said he was hungry, let's find somewhere close - and I remembered doing a Yelp event at Ruby Sunshine and we had stated we needed to go back and try the menu. We rolled in as doors were opening at 7:30 am, scoring a parking spot right out front. We started with hot coffee as we poured over the menu, which was quite large. (note: not a fan of New Orleans-style coffee - it is a chicory mix and I find the taste of chicory offensive. My husband was happy that it stood up to the little bit of cream he adds) I ordered the fall taco special, Creole Cochon Tacos with apple braised pork. My meal came with two, plus tots. The taco was large enough that one was plenty, so my husband enjoyed the other. Delicious with tender sweet pork. The tots were unremarkable... The decor and openness of this place was great. When we went, for a Sunday Brunch, they were very busy and were short-staffed. While we were seated quickly, the service was a little slow due to 2 servers for the whole restaurant. I really like that they have a separate dietary preference menu. My wife and daughter ordered French toast with a side of eggs. I ordered the Keto friendly Migas. The food took a bit to arrive and nobody got the side of eggs. The French toast was good, but nothing special. The Migas were delicious. I'm glad they removed the missing ordered items from our bill, but they didn't offer to make some and bring them out. With the time it took to get food, we didn't bother to request the items. Checkout was quick, but we weren't offered a receipt??? With all the options for food in the area, I'm not likely to return. We are BIG TIME Ruby Slippers fans, and were so excited to see that Ruby Sunshine is the sister company, with the same amazing food! Food: We both ordered the Eggs Blackstone Bennie's and we got a side of candied bacon. OMG EXACTLY what I get in S. Louisiana when visiting the fam, everything was perfect! If you haven't had the various benedicts from Ruby Slipper or Ruby Sunshine, you are totally missing out. I can never poach eggs like they do, sooooo perfect over the biscuit too! Location: Clean, cute, simple. I actually think I like the Sunshine decor a bit better than the Slipper decor I've seen, or at least the newer decor. It's less "busy" and everything looks super clean. Service: I've yet to have poor service at ANY Slipper or Sunshine location, and this spot did not disappoint. Friendly faces (but not fake, like, they all come across as if they like working for this company, which carries over to service.), great recommendations as usual (even tho we consistently get bennies hahah), and gave me a go cup for the road. I love this place! We go to the one in West Ashley. We had a great brunch there in 10/18. Our server Danielle was helpful, quick, and sweet. I love it when she's working. But what I don't appreciate was being harassed by some guy working there named Andre. I don't know him. I found out his name from the manager. He made special trips past our table at least 6 times muttering obscenities each time. Ruby is great, but I won't be back as long as the environment is polluted with sketchy characters. read more
