My husband and I went to the Sunrise Bistro today for breakfast/lunch. We were greeted with a smile from the hostess/waitress. She never introduced herself to tell us her name. She proceeded to take us to our table and pointed in a corner to the "coffee bar". Code for "get your own coffee cuz I'm too busy to get it for you". That shocks me this establishment would have that sort of set up with the number of elderly peeps in the Charleston area. While we were there, a wheelchair bound individual was dining. Do you think she appreciated the "coffee bar"? My husband ordered a farmhouse omelet with a side of bacon. I had the bacon-chorizo eggs benedict. Both were very good. I was disappointed that the spinach and tomatoes that topped the benedict were not sauteed-they were raw. It was still a good dish. The highlight was the cup of fruit I ordered. I don't know if it was just cuz I've been stuck in Ohio without "good fruit", but it was freaking yummy. It was a combo of blueberries, blk raspberries, kiwi, fresh pineapple, strawberries, and an orange slice! All tasty. I had to chuckle to myself while eating. The wall adjacent to where we were eating had some "black board" messages on it. One of the postings was to rent the room area for your next party. As I sat eating my lunch, I noticed that every ceiling tile was sagging horribly from the ceiling and many were stained. Do restaurant owners not realize that ceiling tiles are pretty darn cheap?? These could be changed easily after hours. This place in particular closes at 3 pm. All in all, our lunch was very good, but some details of the operations and ambience detracted from a 5 star review. read more

My wife and I went there today for the first time to try a new place for Sunday breakfast. He walked in and I believe his name was Gary. The host was very friendly took us right to the table and talked to us about five minutes. It turns out he was from New Jersey and we had common on acquaintances from where he was from atmosphere was there the locals that have been there before with recommending the food? I was impressed with the two coffee bars our waitress was very friendly as well as the other service people who helped, which was very different in Mount Pleasant. Are you at the corn beef hash with two eggs over easy my wife got the egg sandwich what was very good was the chocolate fresh baked muffin? I had three different coffees and enjoyed them all the people at the next table told us everything on the menu was good and I believe them I would not hesitate going back there with the rest of the family. Best waffle in town and it's not even close. Light fluffy and even like a fried richness to it. Good service, very attentive and chatty. Endless coffee bar will do that to ya. I appreciate the vibe of the cozy mt pleasant location. There's also a Summerville one that's a little bigger but the mt pleasant location is great for a date or very small groups. read more

I have so much to say, I don't know where to start. I'm visiting SC and was looking for a place to dine, of course Yelp came through. It's located in a small mini mall. It's not a fancy restaurant, very plain with pictures on the wall, wooden table and chairs. Our waiter was Nate, he was excellent at his job. We ordered corned beef and it didn't come out of a can; homemade, excellent. Three Meat Shrimp n Grits: the BEST I've ever had in a delicious creamy sauce. Omelette was made like a breakfast pizza, it was delicious also. You will not go wrong eating here. Also the gentleman who sat us was very friendly. I LOVE THIS PLACE !!! The hostess made herself available to help us, and even when we sat outside did our waitress follow up routinely. The omelets were open-faced-- which was certainly different-- but tasted especially good. Unfortunately, no one made us aware of the charge per add on with the BYO, so it ended up being pricier than anticipated. My friend and I have gone to brunch at Sunrise Bistro in Mt Pleasant several times lately and it's been great each time. Also, the staff is so amazingly friendly and personable, they are some of the nicest people you will ever encounter. Pictured are some of the items we ordered... Bistro Benedict - ham, two sunny side-up eggs, spinach, tomatoes, scallions, tons of hollandaise over a toasted English muffin Pepper Jack Grits - self-explanatory and so creamy and good Corned Beef Hash - house corned beef, 2 eggs, onions, peppers, shredded potatoes and wheat toast - my friend ordered it extra crispy for added crunch and loved it Quesadilla Special - this was the special for the day and it was stuffed with sausage, bacon, cheese and the kitchen sink and it was really good. Sunrise Bistro is the kind of place that will make you feel like you're right at home--if your home had unlimited coffee refills. The gentleman who welcomed us in was so warm and helpful, and our server was attentive, but not overbearing. I got the Mornin Sandwich on a biscuit with an egg over medium, fried chicken, and no cheese. Had lunch on a Thursday 12:30, maybe 8 other diners seated. Uninviting bistro. many light bulbs burnt out, heavily stained drop ceiling, all the way around drab. Was told the turkey sandwich was not lunch meat, but sliced turkey breast. No suprise (Sliced lunch meat)! with fries. AskEd for some other mustard rather than yellow,got charged $1. This fabulous little breakfast/lunch place is an awesome find. Located in a small strip mall off od Johnnie Dodds Blvd, this little gem roasts their own coffee bean and has a coffee bar with 8 different flavors of regular & decaf at all times. You pay for your 1st cup and them all others are on the house! Both the coffee and tea mugs are huge and provide an ample cup of whatever you need to get you rollin'! I had the Hungry Howie breakfast which included 2 eggs over easy, bacon, house potatoes and bread of your choice. I chose the rye and it was on point only I wish they gave me two slices instead of 1. The eggs were fresh but full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The house potatoes were fantastic and i chose mine with onions and peppers and little bit o' heat. Bacon was 2 large strip and cooked perfectly as well. Hubby had the Bistro Eggs Benedict, which came with a very think slice of real ham, two sunny-side-up eggs, fresh spinach, some grape tomatoes and a beautifully executed Hollendaise sauce. It was superb. I wish I was more hungry because they menu was quite eclectic...everything from Nutella crepes, salads, sandwiches, racheros, and ala carte side items. Our server Nate was fantastic and you can tell he loves his job! We were welcomed warmly by the host and he walked us through everything we needed to know about the coffee bar. This guy hugs his regulars and they all seem to love him..and this place ...which is a good sign! There is alot of seating, but this little bistro is NON-STOP busy. We waited for a table for 2 for about under 10 minutes. There is some fun nautical themed outdoor seating as well. Such an awesome little place to eat! The staff here is some of the most friendly I've ever encountered. We had a club sandwich which could have fed 2 people, Nutella crepes and the chicken biscuit. Sunday morning breakfast, Mrs. K. demanded "shrimp and grits" only to decide at the last minute that she wanted the salmon bagel. I had the corned beef hash with two eggs. The hash was fabulous with lots more than just potatoes. Great service, we arrived just before they opened at 9am. Several of us filed in when the restaurant opened and got our coffee. Yes, the coffee is self-serve here and that's a great way to ensure people aren't waiting with empty cups (except my wife when I don't notice that her cup is empty). Breakfast was excellent. Waking up early is worth it for a night owl. As I entered, I caught the gnarliest wave. My dudes and dudettes, Betties and Barnies, ladies and gents... totally awesome breakfast! Righteous! Excellent!! Duuuuude!! Sweet! I felt like I was in Endless Summer. It's that perfect day in Costa Rica! The perfect swell! Rainbow, rainy season, sunset, sweet surf! Hang Ten! Took 30 minutes to order and 20 more till we got our food. Gluten free toast was 2$ extra and came out 5 minutes late with one slice--this was sad given the up charge and that two slices was the standard. Breakfast burrito was FANTASTIC! This was for sure a highlight. Good atmosphere and base prices, but with the egg and specialty upcharges, it seemed a bit much. The breakfast platter was average; not memorable but not bad. Walked in on Saturday, October 25th around 10:30 AM. The place was busy -- several people sitting and standing around -- but not a single employee acknowledged anyone who came in. I stood there for about 10 minutes and no one said a word or made any effort to help. It looked completely disorganized and short-staffed. Saturday morning is peak time for any breakfast spot, and it should be all hands on deck. Clearly, this place doesn't understand that. It is a very nice mom and pop restaurant that is located in a small strip mall off Hwy. 17. It provides a comfortable atmosphere with super friendly staff. Our server was excellent, always checking up on us if we needed anything. An older gentleman, I believe was the owner, checked on each table to ensure everything was satisfactory. They have several brands of coffee to try like their Jamaican blend which was very good. The menu has something for everyone (see pic) and the portions are generous. I was looking for breakfast on yelp and stumbled across this place. One of the reviews was about the Shrimp and Grits. I decided to give this place a go. I must say that the restaurant is in a little shopping center and you'll miss it if you're not specifically looking for it. I had the House Shrimp and Grits and they were amazing! They were delicious and had a lot of flavors that didn't just work well together but created a really wonderful taste that I find difficult to explain but thoroughly enjoyed! There is a serve yourself coffee bar where there are many flavors of coffee to try. Either singularity or by mixing.. The server was great, friendly and attentive. I believe his name was Nate. Very nice fellow and he was definitely an awesome server! The place is very clean and a suitable temperature, not terribly noisy even with a big crowd. All in all it was a fantastic experience, so much so that I returned the following day and did it all again. Very slow to bring me water and take my order and it was a slow Wednesday at round 1pm. Ordered the French Toast it took 30 minutes to get and was served blackened! Smelled burnt, looked burnt, could not eat. Non existent server did not check on me while I waited, not eating, hoping to just get some toast. I finished my eggs, and sausage, nothing special they were ok. Pepper jack grits could have been very good but were cold. Server finally showed up with my bill that she then took another 15 minutes to process. I will not be back. read more
