Service & Staff From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was outstanding. * Mallory greeted us with a warm smile and set the tone for the evening. * Tyler, the bartender, is a true mixologist--his vodka martini with three olives was perfection, and his recommendation of a Tuscan blend paired beautifully with our meal. * Christian, originally from Long Beach Island, NJ, brought great energy and even better stories. * Davida, hailing from Sicily and speaking flawless English, shared wonderful insights from his travels. * Louis, a tennis pro by day, delivered five‑star service all night. This team is polished, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Cuisine The food was exceptional from start to finish. * We began with beef carpaccio and warm bread--both outstanding. * The lamb special, prepared by Executive Chef Michael Reilly, was cooked to a perfect warm pink center and served over hand‑mashed potatoes with fresh‑cut carrots. * We're already planning a return visit to try the duck, which came highly recommended. Bizarre Experience overall With its location near legendary restaurants 82 Queen, Pogan's Porch, and Husk; Eli's Table peaked my interest with a green flag-- a small one page menu. This is where things get weird. I go to enter the restaurant with confusion as the door says Toast, a local diner style brunch chain. The hostess mentions they switch concepts from brunch to dinner. Frankly, a smart idea in concept. While being seated, we noticed the restaurant was only about half full. A bit of a red flag for a Saturday in Charleston. The atmosphere was the next thing we noticed. The lighting was "off" and in stark contrast to the upbeat edm music playing in the background. This is something you would expect at Felix on King, not on Queen in the French Quarter. That being said, the staff was on par for downtown, but did not sell me on the experience. The food was actually really good, but did not blow me away. We got the beef carpaccio, duck, chicken, crab soup (my favorite), beignets, and crème brûlée. This food would be top tier in any city in the Midwest... just not in downtown Charleston. I would not plan on going back unless I was in a pinch to find an open table for downtown Charleston, but even still I might consider an alternative. read more

I came in for a date night and we were promptly seated for our reservation by someone who I believe is the manager (Mallory?) and she was absolutely amazing throughout the entire night. The food was delicious but service was the slowest I've ever had so it greatly affected our first experience here. I'm not sure if this was because of restaurant week but service at other restaurants I've visited during RW has always been great. To start, we were sat down and nobody came to our table for 15 minutes, not even to bring water, so I spoke to the hostess to let her know. Our waiter finally came and she was sweet but not attentive at all through our dinner. We were there for 2.5 hours, waiting a good while in between courses. Others around us were also getting irritated - another couple left after having been seated for a while and I believe changed their minds after talking to a couple beside them who definitely looked annoyed by the long wait times. A few tables even asked to have the remainder of their upcoming courses packed to go because of this. We were given complimentary champagne and mussels for the initial wait after being seated but service sadly fell short from there. One of the best kept secrets in downtown Charleston!! This place has been around for a while, it is beautifully decorated and you can easily get a table with these two chefs Ty and Michael. Our dinner club had an event there last week and the food was amazing. They are very affordable and the Prix Fixe menu option allowed me to have three regular sized portions on my first visit. Their beet salad is refreshing: beets, fresh citrus sections, and a very delicious vinaigrette. My main course was the airline chicken. Rarely do I eat chicken out when I go out to restaurants in Charleston but this time it looked delicious. It was very well seasoned, seared with a crispy skin and served with amazing pimento mashed potatoes and broccolini. Neither the mashed potatoes nor the broccolini were overly salted and complemented the chicken very well. Dessert was even more of a surprise. It was a chocolate ganache cake with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, which is amazing. They added fresh raspberries, a little cookie, and a sweet caramel sauce to pour over the cake. I was able to meet both chefs because they have an open kitchen, and you could see them diligently working as a pair. They really seem to be wanting Charleston to see who they are and I agree. I highly recommend this place. I rarely write restaurant reviews, but when I do this for a good reason. We came in during the dusting so it was very cold. It was also very packed but we got lucky and only waited about 10 minutes for a table. We ordered and waited 35 minutes for our food. We (party of 3) had reservations for 7:30 we finally got seated at 8:30. We stood waiting trying to stay out of the servers way! It was a really bad start! This is the reason for the lower rating. No waiting area. Very few tables that accommodate more than 2, etc However, when a place at the bar opened and finally able to sit out of the way, we were given free champagne and an appetizer. We were drawn to Eli's Table as there was live jazz on Friday and Saturdays. However, it was a gentlemen playing the keyboard. No singing, only live music. It was still very nice. The service was very friendly, our server Raymond was welcoming and made out night! We stopped by after dinner for a night cap and live music. We ordered the southern Gentlemen drink (which was made with Bourbon) a, a fruity non alcoholic drink and beignets, which is a speciality of this spot. Wow the beignets were delicious! Came for brunch during a weekend trip to Charleston. This was our third time visiting Charleston and was our favorite brunch by far. We sat outside on the patio which was quiet - perfect for our sleeping 6 month old. My husband and I shared the chicken & waffles and crab & eggs. I can't emphasize enough how good they both were! The chicken and waffles were cooked perfectly and the flavor was excellent. The crab and eggs were one of the best crab cakes i've ever had - mostly crab, almost no filler, and very flavorful. What does one do when he flies back home to visit briefly, celebrate his April fools "21st" Bday, but is in the mood for live Jazz and great company? Ask a person whom I've never met face to face to join & suggest a great place to dine! Being single I frequent a lot of restaurants & have a lot of first dates that result in the same, boring and mundane "getting to know you" talk. This runs parallel to dining, the same food just with a different spin & lacking the wow factor. My gracious host was most interesting, much like Eli's with many enjoyable & contrasting nuisances. Walking up to Eli's many long-lost emotions begin to manifest themselves. This is my hometown yet I'm a foreigner. I paused to take pictures of the majestic buildings that adorn the street, namely the churches & the outside of Eli's. Outside are a few tables with smiling customers sipping adult beverages in front of off-white brick façade complimented by a pastel green color, fresh flowers & a few small signs as if finding the place is an Easter egg hunt. Walking in, dark wood interiors adorn the bar area & light wood furnishings compliment the transitional light yellow toned walls. I had some time to kill so I sat at the bar striking up conversations w/ patrons & employees alike. I find it hard to compete against todays copilots, aka "smart phones" for verbal tomfoolery. Alas, I'm a persistent extrovert so I beat Apple & Samsung! Talking with the staff at Eli's, it prepared me handsomely for my new friend, knowledgeable, attractive, elegant, entertaining & downright fun. Being a southern gentleman & traditionalist, I brought my friend fresh flowers. Please note I have no earthly idea what the flowers were, just that they look pretty. The feminine spring breeze walked in & woken my senses, jazzing up the atmosphere, that is the band & the woman, but I digress. At the same time our hostess who "was the mostest" who's name wasn't Beetlejuice rather Carson introduced herself. Jovial, prompt, knowledgeable & able to trade barbs quickly meant I knew things were going to be enjoyable! The menu is fun much like the person sitting across from me who had a funny bone, all in the backdrop of southern dining with jazz. She ordered the Four Graces Pinot Noir while I opted for the Backhouse Cab Sauv, a beautiful wine, deep in color w/ black berry on the palate & lighter than I expected. The lone disappointment was no escargot. I'm now convinced the universe is against me as this is the third restaurant in a row that didn't have snails. We complimented our wine w/ prosciutto & fig crostini. I'll admit this was the best version I've ever had. The goat cheese is slightly tart yet super flavorful on an extremely soft ciabatta topped with a salty prosciutto, and fig compote all on a sherry reduction. Our table was 10 feet from the band & the music was skillfully crafted, lending its own signature upon an already sophisticated yet laid back ambiance. Complimenting the band our smoked gouda fondue arrived. While the cheese was phenomenal as were all the accoutrements I found the grapes to best the best pairing. The slight acidity cut the richness of the cheese with surgical precision! The smarter of us two ordered her same glass of wine while I wanted to travel the world from the comfort of my chair. I opted for the Remanso Melbec from Argentina. This wine didn't agree with my palate which is odd for a Melbec. It started off without legs & easy on the tongue then a bold peppery aftertaste which lingers. We opted against a formal main course, trying the fried green tomato napoleon instead. Another absolute win! The tomatoes were slightly bitter, the pimento cheese, a toast to Charleston! As the night wound down the libations allowed a jovial tongue. Our waitress brought us bday beignets w/ a raspberry melba. The lady in gray switched to a very southern twang, playfully mocking the southern charm, which complimented the pillows of doughy goodness perfectly. The desert wasn't overly sweet so I didn't mind indulging in a fantastic, simple finisher. Finally, I enjoyed a Napa Valley Merlot & while I love merlot, it's so common I can't hold my pinky up. That said, it was wonderful, fruit forward with notes of oak & a nice mellow afterglow. The evening engaged in many paradoxes, intelligence juxtaposed w/ mindless goofiness, simple ingredients in an elegant design, audio foundation of jazz supporting great conversations. Eli is in many ways like the perfect date. The menu is informative without being overbearing, familiar yet adventurous. The staff are professional yet giving jokes as well as they take them. The interior is beautiful while not being pretentious or intimating. We sat indoors and the restaurant didn't seem too busy when we arrived, however, service was so slow and painful the entire time. Our waitress seemed to forget about us and ignored simple asks like getting me a spoon - I'm convinced this establishment only offers forks and knives despite having soup on their menu. I took about 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee since they were 'brewing' a new pot.... A new pot shouldn't take that long. Coffee comes and i have no spoon nor a stirrer. Have to wait several more minutes to get a paper stirrer and more creamers. I ask for a spoon again since it would have been nice to use to scoop up some of our appetizer. Nope, simply ignored and never got a spoon. Food was average - the avocado on my sandwich wasn't fresh avocado - it was browning when it came out. Croissant was had as a rock. Came here for brunch on a weekday. Charleston is a fantastic place to find brunch every day if the week and this place is no exception. Shared the sweet potato pancakes (with cinnamon butter) and avocado egg croissant. Both were good and both were mildly soggy. The cinnamon butter was quite good however- note to self, should make at home for the future. The bill came with a credit card service fee, not sure if that's standard here but I want aware of that prior to paying. All in all it was a decent meal. The risotto was also perfectly creamy & tender with peppers & corn- yum yum yum. Cons: Server was not attentive & forgot a couple of my friends' items. There were flies and one landed in my hubby's wine glass before he could have a sip (yes it was replaced but I don't expect to swat flies indoors.) The two tables put together were different heights & wobbly. It was very warm in the restaurant. Bathroom was gross. I feel I should start this with: We attempted to come yesterday. The website stated you're opened for brunch and dinner. When we arrived it was dark and obviously not opened. Perhaps update this, I'm sure we aren't the only ones to walk directly into the dark restaurant. The gentleman there didn't question why 4 people walked in, just saw us and kept walking. I asked; even though it was obvious if they were opened or opening and he said no. Just no. Very disappointed as soon as I walked in for this visit. I was with a group and didn't want to disappoint them. A few times I wanted to just leave. The serving staff seemed to have no direction and wandered around. No communication from hostess to the server who claimed our table, pretty sure the hostess should be the one seating. I had company from out of town and they always heard me talk about how much I love Eli's table. We had a great table but since one in our party had to use the restroom it was given to a party of 2 when we were a larger party and felt cramped where we were placed. The saving grace in the start was the bartender Billy was fantastic. He happily made drinks for my friends that were not on the menu. Which then turned into a large table next to us also ordering the drinks, so that was fun. Billy has a lot of personality. The thing that bothered me the most was my friend wanted a switch of bread on a sandwich and was told the chef would refuse to do so. Terry reassured us Corey is an excelled chef but I feel it's just bread. And a first time customer should have had a wow experience, we're in Charleston and are suppose to known for Southern Hospitality. I respect integrity of the dish but this is simply a bread switch. My Beet salad came out missing its basil oil and ricotta. I was told the person who put it together, it was their first day. I get that, I have grace for that; nonetheless, it's Expo's job to send out the food correctly. I did not send it back since I didn't want to waste it, did receive my cheese but not the oil. I could not tell if the Expo was a kitchen manager or a floor manager. She was not put together well. The first comment from my friend was, "who is she touching the plates?" She had a buttoned top but instead of it being buttoned she was sporting a low cut tank and her chest tattoo was on full display. Definitely out of place. Terry, Billy, the hostess and other servers all looked their parts. She was not an elevated staff member by sight. Nor did she play the role, seeing as how the food was sent out incorrectly. With that being said, if we retained our original table (reservation called in) we wouldn't have been able to see this person until her many trips away from Expo. Stopped in on a Saturday night for dinner around 6pm. The space is cute. We sat in the back courtyard because we had our dogs so they are dog friendly which is a plus! Our waitress was nice but not that attentive. We order the Gouda fondue, friend green tomatoes, and the goat cheese crostini for appetizers. The Gouda fondue was delicious but came out with out the pretzel bread which was one of the things we were looking forward too. When we asked the waitress about it, she checked and then let us know the kitchen didn't have any bread. The green apples, grapes, and sausage were good in the cheese but would have loved to dip the pretzel bread. Our waitress did apologize and take it off the bill which was very nice. She also let us know that they didn't have anymore green tomatoes for the friend green tomatoes so we didn't end up getting to try that. The goat cheese crostini with prosciutto was very tasty. For our entree we had the vegetable risotto. It was okay but it says it's supposed to be a truffle risotto but I didn't taste any truffle. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a very long time. The food was mediocre at best. The Fried Green Tomatoes were coated in a very thick batter, much of which was burned. I also ordered the Salmon with Truffle Risotto. The salmon was a very tiny portion and very salty. The risotto was gluey and gloopy and totally inedible. But the service is where Eli's Table completely falls apart. When I was seated the hostess said she would bring me a drinks menu, which she never did. My server came by and asked about water. She brought the bottle of water and a glass (no ice, no lime or lemon) but never even poured it. She came by later to ask about drinks, which I ordered, but didn't receive until I was halfway through my appetizer (the aforementioned Fried Green Tomatoes). I had to ask about specials (catch of the day). She then brought my entree when I was only about halfway through the appetizer and had had about two sips of my cocktail. I also had to ask for utensils and a napkin. Sigh. The only saving grace was that the manager came over to apologize and he did comp my entire meal. He acknowledged that he has his work cut out for him to improve things. Another table (same server) was also complaining about the service, and another table (different server) got wrong drink orders. Maybe tonight was a one-off? That was how we started out and the food was decent and the wife liked the Westbrook IPA, I had Hot tea, I had the soup and it was very good and we shared a Burger and Fries. I am not sure we would go back if we were in town, but never say never, it was not terrible, but nothing that said WOW! They do have great Ambiance and it is a cute venue.. This is a case of First Impressions are everything and they were not the best. Why 4 Stars? Eli's Table seems like it's had one too many years being bombared with tourists and needs a bit of a break to rest and recoup. I remember when they first opened and it was the hot new thing in town, and I think since then it has just been hard to keep up. The ceilings tiles look like they've been having some sort of water damage and are all discolored, sagging, and pretty off-putting. The bathroom is similarly over-used looking. The food was all in all pretty good at prices typical for that part of town (which means, largely speaking, overpriced), but I wouldn't say it was anything super special. The servers, however, were fantastic. We went on a day when it was absolutely pouring rain and the servers let us hang out at the restaurant long after we had eaten to try and wait for the rain to stop. They also were very attentive to older customers and tried to help them figure out transport plans to avoid the torrential downpours. I am up for trying out Eli's table again, and maybe my opinion will change with another visit! read more

So we decided to try a brunch spot that we never tried before. The aesthetics.we're quaint and inviting. The service was amazing. He was engaging and attentive to our needs. Now for the food. I had the wild mushroom omelette with breakfast potatoes. It was tasty but I would like to try some other things on the menu the next time. Overall great experience and good food. read more
