I really thought this place was designed very well, but as far as the food goes...the owner needs some serious feedback. I'm sorry, but there were so many things that weren't right. Hopefully this review makes it to the owners hands and some changes are made. Let's start with my soft shell crab sandwich. The crab was itty bitty and the bun was huge. Plus the lettuce was the hard, light colored, end piece that I usually toss in the trash. I would highly suggest you either get a mini bun or add another crab to the sandwich. I noticed I could have done that for an extra $10 which I didn't think was fair being that the first crab was so small. By the way, there were four people sitting at the bar and one other table that had a family of four sitting at it. Which is why I was a little confused that my fries were cold when the server gave us our food. I mean really??? It just confused me that a server and a cook couldn't take care of a total of ten people. I can't imagine how bad it would have been if the place was packed. Moving on to our Boil Seafood Bowl with a tasty broth, Mussels, Clams and Shrimp & our Shrimp Fried Rice. We really enjoyed both until I bit into a shrimp and the smell of ammonia shot through my nose. Oh my Gosh, come on, you can't serve old shrimp to the customers and think that that's okay. In all honesty I would have given a four star rating if the shrimp weren't old. What was worse was the servers response to our concerns. Good news is that neither of us got sick and the bad news is unfortunately we won't be back to Pier 41. Especially because there are so many other restaurants with better quality food and much friendlier service. One other note worthy of mentioning. If you've going to charge $2.75 per oyster, you might want to switch your listing to a "$$$" and not a "$$" restaurant. Expectations ran high as the happy hour referral came from a bartender at a popular Mt. Pleasant food and beverage establishment. Walking inside, there was a certain unease in the air, it felt heavy and not conducive to a drink after work with the big boss man. Boss man wasn't particularly excited about my suggestion, but it came to me by a bartender at a popular Mt. Pleasant food and beverage establishment...... right? .... I should be safe with this recommendation.... right?........ Positivity now rapidly dwindling. The girl serving an outside table of eight seemed to be fully consumed, far to consumed to greet us. Once at the bar, barkeep begins working on the table of eights time consuming drinks -- he was muddling for Old Fashions for Peetes Sake. We just wanted a beer, so the wait ensued. Our order was taken with some low volume huffs and puffs, usually reserved for orders that take a fifteen minute conversation, we were not that at all. Bottom line, the treatment we received was very poor -- and where is the water? Isn't that kinda what the word PIER suggests? No pier either. The fried shrimp was a total left over reheat bomb mess which was sad, as the shrimp was of nice quality. The breading was that of sticky pudding left too long in the fridge, the nachos were pliable, rubbery and gummy -- no topping in the world could rectify. Fortunately I still have a job but have been completely stripped of any happy hour decisions hence go forth, double secret happy hour decision making probation. Thanks guys. read more

Y'all. I wish I could give them a better review but we didn't have a great experience. We showed up at Pier 41 on Saturday evening around 5:45pm. Most of the tables were empty and the bar was packed. Our waitress told us they had reservations for all of the empty tables at 7pm and we could sit there if we would be done by 7. At this point it was getting on 6pm, so that left us less than an hour to look at the menu, order food, have it prepared, eat, and pay. It's possible but this was our first time at the restaurant and had no idea what was on the menu. The waitress offered to seat us outside until there were open seats at the bar. At this point we were hangry so we agreed rather than trying to figure out where to go instead. There was a big storm coming so luckily seats opened up at the bar pretty quickly. However, we saw a steady stream of people walk in, find out there were no tables, and leave. When 7pm came (and we hadn't finished eating yet!) many of the groups were late or had fewer people, so they could have easily sat other people instead. The bartender was great and even offered to go to the liquor store to pick up a cider for my friend since they didn't have any on tap. We enjoyed our food and our experience with the bartender, but the seating issue left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't plan on returning. read more

I can't say enough about how much I love this place. It's close to home which is helpful for a mom like me that wants to get away and not have to go too far. I love food and this place checks all my boxes. I love that it's kinda small and intimate inside. I love that it's local family owned. I love that the bartender is the owner and she's great.. I can tell folks come in just to see her, not the the food and amazing happy hour deals don't get you in the door enough. I used to tend bar and serve, this place gets it all right! I love that. This place is such a hidden gem in the middle of Mount Pleasant. My wife and I just went for the second time and we really enjoyed the fresh seafood food and friendly service. This is a great place to go and just order small plates to share. The fresh oysters were great. The mussels with basil and boiled peanut is a must try. We had a blast yesterday at pier 41. The staff is super friendly and you cant beat the 1 dollar oysters! We came early when they opened at 4 and we sat at the back of the restaurant with our baby daughter. By the time we ordered our first drinks the place was buzzing with a ton of smiling people. I was not impressed in the slightest with the food much less the price we paid. I feel like if I'm going to pay $75 for a seafood platter that brings shrimp I would not have to devein them myself. What an amazing spot! This is not a fine dining location by any means but the food could well be. The decor is simple and clean. The menu is based on small plates, easing its way up to full entree's. The service was great with our food being delivered pretty fast. Happy hour was 4-6 and a few small plates were a couple of dollars off. The edamame was great. Crispy, well seasoned and salty. I had ordered the seafood pot which had a rich selection of seafood- local shrimp, clams, mussels, fish with shiitake mushrooms and bokchoy. Really was so flavorful. The other entree ordered was the fried seafood platter with a collection of oysters, shrimp, fish and seasoned fries with coleslaw. Both entrees were amazing. I highly recommend this sweet place. The pricing is very reasonable with the most expensive entrees around $20. The majority of dishes are well below this. Decided to come here for lunch on a whim for seafood. Bring a jacket, it was chilly in there! From their very limited lunch menu, I ordered their lobster roll ($18) over lettuce since I am not eating carbs and I'm glad I did. The lobster salad itself had barely any flavor and had I ordered it on the bun, I'm afraid the bread would have drowned out the flavor of the lobster all together. The portion of lobster I received was almost insulting so I cut the 5 small pieces of lobster into even smaller pieces so that I could make a 5-bite meal last for 10. The atmosphere here is awesome and I love a few things on their menu. There isn't a lot to choose from so I usually get the same things every time. The raw oysters are obviously a solid choice and the house fries are most definitely my favorite item on the menu. They have great happy hour deals and even a few Asian offerings as well. The lobster is decent and the lobster roll was tasty although it was on two slices of bread instead of a roll like I'm used to. The ceviche and crab dip are fantastic choices to start off with and the tacos are also really good. The fried rice was pretty good and interesting at the same time. They give a generous amount that fills you up quickly. My main frustration with this place is that since it is so small, any time we decide to eat here we have a backup plan because it can get super crowded during peak hours. Even if we are lucky enough to get a seat during peak hours, some of the servers seem stressed and rushed. I've been here a few times when it's felt like this and while it's great that the business is doing so well, I feel that they've been around long enough to be able to handle the load that comes through here. It can change the dynamic of the experience because I feel rushed and I love some of their food but the excitement tends to die down when your server disappears for 30 minutes after each stop at your table. I had family in town and we came here to eat and one family member remarked that while they loved the food, we should have asked for the check after we ordered our food so that we didn't have to wait so long. We also refrained from ordering dessert because we didn't want to wait for it. The service is very friendly it just can be a long wait if they're busy and they haven't seemed to figure out how to handle the crowds just yet. Went to Pier 41 for the 3p-6p happy hour. Specifically I went for the oysters. I thought I read somewhere they were $1 each on Mondays and Tuesdays but they were $2 each today (Tuesday). I ordered them anyway, 1/2 dozen steamed. They were delivered hot, but whole, with no oyster knife. So I used my regular knife to pry open the first one. It was about nickel-sized and flavorless. Absolutely no briny taste. The second one was about the same size. I added salt and it tasted better but still so tiny. The biggest one was about quarter-sized. So $12 for next to nothing. My husband ordered the fish tacos for $4 each. They were good so I ordered a couple too. Maybe some of the other seafood offerings would be good, but I wouldn't ever order oysters there again. We probably won't be going back. read more

While not actually on the water (in fact, it's not anywhere near water), Pier 41 still honors their name when it comes to seafood. Raw oysters, baked oysters, mussels, shrimp ceviche, tuna poke, lobster fried rice mac and cheese (all together in one dish), fried flounder taco ... lots of options. The menu is, obviously, seafood-centric and many preparations are Asian influenced. (Ie: lobster fried rice mac and cheese.) Flavors of soy sauce were abundant in quite a few of the dishes we tried. (Sometimes a little too much. Flavor balancing was a little inconsistent throughout our meal. Some bites were perfect, others were too salty.) We enjoyed most everything we tried and, because the menu is designed with sharable, small plates in mind, we were able to try quite a few. Eric, our bartender, was quick and friendly and managed to hold down the bar single handed on a busy Friday night. Granted the restaurant is small, but he was busy and still took time to engage in conversation with us and others around the bar. Overall, Pier 41 offers an upscale vibe but is ever-so-slightly rough around the edges. If you are looking for seafood in MtP and want a trendy atmosphere without feeling like you have to tone down your conversation, this is a great spot to try. read more

Very rude staff. Bartender Sara only waited on what was obviously her friend group. Totally ignored the rest of the bar. Sat and watched her down 3 shots with her buddies. When she finally made it to us, she was visibly annoyed and drunk. Sorry to break up your personal party dear but I am a paying customer and it's sad you rolled your eyes when I asked the difference between the oysters. Food was overpriced and mediocre. The poor service from the drunk bartender ensures we will never return. I thought it was supposed to be a classy place, but do to the private party at the bar it seemed like a frat house. Surprised they weren't doing keg stands. Maybe we just left before that started. Unprofessional and the foul language being shouted back in forth between staff makes it also not kid friendly . This was by far the best seafood/oyster experience I've had in a long time. The oysters were fresh, briny, and plentiful. With different varieties to sample, each with their own unique flavor, it was quite the experience. The peel and eat shrimp was also fantastic, as was the blue crab dip.
