Mainland Container has all the right elements of a great local kitchen and bar. We came here a few times to hear my friend play in his local band "The Fire Apes". Went there the other night and was pleasantly surprised! It's a pretty unassuming places tucked behind the road out to Sullivan's island. It's pretty much an outdoor only bar but they did have tents up for the rain. They have a ton of great seafood options and I had the salmon boy sandwhich which was so good. I came here on a Saturday around 12 PM and I really must say the hospitality was amazing. Everyone that I came in contact with was so helpful. I was originally gonna go to a oyster festival on Sunday, but noticed that many places in South Carolina don't do brunch on Sundays. So I found this place. They two buckets of oysters on Saturdays for about $20. We decided to sit outside. They had fans blowing, TVs going, Just a nice set up to enjoy yourself. I ended up with two buckets of oysters. They were very good. I asked if they could steam them a little longer so the shells would open up and they did. Anyways, I think they're doing this until March. The only thing that I realize I didn't too much care for was that they do cluster oysters and that's a different type of fight. All in all I think it's a good price. I was excited to see an interesting concept for a restaurant/bar. I love the container. It's very cute. The location is amazing. There are all these beautiful oak trees around giving shade. At first I wasn't sure I was in the right place because there is a house sitting behind the container, but that is part of the establishment. As far as I could see, all of the seating is outdoors, so that is something to keep in mind when we are experiencing the highs and lows of SC weather. Last night was in the high 80's and it was comfortable enough to sit and hang out. They had a singer/guitar player out for live music at 6:00 and he was great. I was meeting friends to talk and catch up so we asked to be seated away from the speakers because it was a bit loud and we couldn't hear each other. The service was good. We were seated right away and since it wasn't too crowded we were able to pick a different spot once the music started. The menu isn't too extensive as far as what they offer and the only part that I wasn't particularly pleased with was the food. I ordered the fish tacos. There were two of them, and there was no side to go with them. They were just ok, not particularly impressive or flavorful and a bit on the pricy side for what they were ($14 for just the 2 tacos). The one good thing about them, they tasted like the local shrimp my dad used to catch off the Carolina coast (I don't know if these are local shrimp or not but they taste like it). I would like to come back on a cooler day and pay closer attention to the menu and try some of the other options before I write it off altogether. But I was disappointed to still be hungry after eating my "meal" (snack?). read more

This was a first time visit. The main building wasn't open due to shortage of staff. So we sat outside. Nice and cool underneath the trees in We went for half price burger night. We each ordered a burger that was pretty good. Also had several drinks and they were decent pours. I ordered a kids meal shrimp with tater tots. The tots were just right. Came here for the first time for lunch today. Some major positives: plenty of parking as well as indoor and outdoor seating, very friendly and helpful staff, and live music (the band was very good!). There are a good amount of options on the menu and the food is fairly priced. We ordered the mainland burger (medium) with the duck fat tater tots and the blackened mahi sandwich with fries. The mahi sandwich was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The burger was prepared well-done instead of medium (like ordered) and it tasted just average. The tots were labeled "duck fat" but they tasted like your average tater tot to me - nothing special. They have a decent beer selection but bottles and cans only - no draft options. Overall, it was a decent experience and we might be back in the future to try other items from the menu. read more

Usually love this place. First time we've paid to listen to music. Supposed to be a Queen cover band. Only heard about four Queen songs. Paid $24 ($12 cover x 2) and the band started 30 minutes late (5:30), took a 25 minute break after and hour and then ended 1 1/2 hours early at 7:30. (See attached photo. Clearly shows 5-9 pm). Only played 2 of 4 hours and also took that long break. We had planned to make an evening of it and invited a bunch of friends only to find music over before the sun went down. Refund? -- BTW, bartenders and food still awesome. We'll be back but not for a cover charge. read more

As I travel the low country locating hidden gem restaurant's is one of pleasures. Did I luck up this time....or Id call this find FATE!  The staff was friendly and inviting from the moment we entered. The atmosphere was amazing! Outside they played Caribbean music which set the perfect mood. We started out with two of their signature cocktails! A Berry Mojito and the Cucumber Lemonade! I want to like this place... Great location, nice outdoor seating and food is decent. However, service the last couple of times I've been here has been spotty at best (long wait to be served and to get food and drinks) and I can't get over how filthy the bathrooms and the inside section of the restaurant are. The shrimps and grits were probably some of the best I had, they had crawfish, shrimp and crawfish is a lobster bisque sauce (that I could have drank, it was that good) for only $16. We also got the steak and eggs on a banquette, which was a NY strip with a fried egg and hollandaise for only $14. No complaints on the food! The only complaint I have (which is why I could give it 5 stars) is that our server seemed like he didn't really care to be there and they didn't have ANY coffee? I wanted to try this place a couple times before reviewing, honestly, because the first experience was so strange. They were out of everything we wanted but half the plates were good on the table. I would recommend: loaded tots (I forget the name they use but it's an app that can take the place of a plate if you're not looking for a healthy meal), the hush puppies, the burgers, and the shrimp and grits (I thought my grandpa was going to lose his mind he loved them so much.) I wouldn't recommend: kabobs and the shrimp tacos. Neither had much flavor. Decent beer list, solid view/porch/outdoor situation. My friends and I came here last night, first time ever visiting this restaurant/bar. It's definitely a fun little place to relax and hangout. They have live music inside and outside, with a cute little bar outside. I just wish they offered angry orchard or reds apple ale for those of us who can not indulge in wheat based beers. There's nothing not to love about MCC! Starting with the parking ... you'll be pleased with the large lot. If you love to eat al fresco, there's a cute bar and lots of patio seating outside. As for us, we proceeded up the steps and entered into a cool, uber casual (inside) dining area where we were warmly greeted and given an option for seating. The bar was already energetic so we selected seating at a table for two. (If you're dining with a crowd, there is a good number of community tables.) Our friendly server, Becky, approached our table quickly and we were ready with our beverage order ... Sam Adams for Joe and Rum and Diet Coke in a tall glass (I like extra soda) for me. The drinks came quickly. Our starter seemed to take a long time to arrive ... but the selection was oh, so worth the wait. The order of 10 gorgeous sweet and spicy Ponzu Chili wings ($12.00) were clearly prepared fresh per order. These plump, juicy, beauties, served with chunky blue cheese dressing, were piping hot ... a real treat! Joe's Mainland Burger, ($13.00), a tasty blend of short rib, brisket and chuck was perfectly prepared and topped with American Cheese, fresh lettuce and tomato. While a simple salad or crinkle fries were offered as an accompaniment, he (OK, I) could not pass up the duck fat fried potato tots. Oh, my ... hot, fresh, delish and so many! No complaints about my order of two blackened fish tacos ($12.00), served with crunchy slaw and jalapeño aioli. The serving of fish was juicy, fresh and the portion was decent. (No, I'm not sure what species.) We we're both quite full and though the key lime pie sounded yummy, we passed on dessert. Throughout the meal, Becky kept our water glasses full and checked often to see if we needed anything. (Reflecting, many people stopped by our table.) If you live in East Cooper or cruising on Ben Sawyer, going to, or leaving, Sullivan's Island (or using 703 to/from the IOP) and craving some good, fairly priced eats and a cool drink, check out MCC. They're open weekdays for lunch, then re-open for dinner and serve both brunch and dinner on the weekends. There's live music a few nites a week. Monday nites are half price burgers and on Tuesday, specially priced Tacos. We'll be back ... there's lots of menu items we want to check out. You'll love it! read more

Just came here for the first time this past weekend. Cool joint that felt very welcoming. Just a few minutes from the main Shem Creek drag, though felt like we were driving into darkness at night! Mainland Container has an excellent mix of indoor and outdoor space. Outdoors is huge and would be a really nice space to hang out. I liked that there was a large balcony off the main upstairs restaurant to sit as well. Be warned that you will have to go upstairs to get into the main restaurant- I'm not sure if there was a ramp around the back. All the food looked incredible. Beach fare here- which makes sense. Hush puppies were the fan favorite appetizer! Lots of seafood options because Charleston. Live music on Saturday night was rocking. Everyone was up dancing and having a good time, which guaranteed a fun time for everyone. read more

Wow, Mainland Container has it going on. What a great find as I was making my way out to Sullivan's Island the other evening. This spot has it all, great parking, beautiful Beachy bar with an eye level peek into the kitchen. The staff are super friendly & very eager to attend to all our needs. We had dinner here sitting at the bar chatting with the bar staff. The fish tacos were spot on & very tasty. I imagine this will be a great party spot in the coming months as they have a fantastic outdoor space with lights, heaters, TV's and no doubt music in the coming warm summer months. They have what look like garage doors that open up from the outside to inside space. This will be super cool in the summer months allowing people to mingle both inside & out. The concept here is just great. I can't wait to return & party here in the summer. read more

Mainland Container is a really nice new spot in Mt Pleasant. Upon pulling into the driveway, you're greeting with a massive outdoor patio and a beautiful building. The inside gives off a very classic but modern beachy vibe, with roll up garage doors leading out to a covered balcony. Huge tables and stools fill out the restaurant around a nice little bar. We would have loved to be outside more, but this rainy April weather kept everyone indoors. Snagged a local double IPA that was really delicious, but the keg kicked on my glass, so sadly I did not get to drink another! Followed it up with a recommendation from the bartender that was also very good. Draft beers were a little pricey ($8), but my pal drinking a mixed drink was happy to pay $6 for a strong cocktail. Shoutout to the female bartender working this past Saturday who was fabulous. Unfortunately, they were not offering the late night food menu on Saturday night (not sure if they got rid of it entirely), so by 10pm, the kitchen was closed. The place was PACKED full of people dancing and having a good time though, so we still had a blast! Biggest gripe- finding this lovely spot in the dark! Mainland, please light up the end of your driveway! Just about everyone in my party drove right past the place and had to whip around. We saw the string lights of the patio just in time to make the turn, but easily would have blown right by it. A little light goes a long way!! They are now serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, which I would definitely be interested to check out. Will certainly be back to this great little spot!! read more

The fries were soggy and unseasoned. We laughed. It almost looked like something you would expect from a hospital cafeteria. We have throughly enjoyed our dinning experience here. The Container was recommended by a bartender at another cool MtPleasant restaurant so we decided to check it out. The building sneaks up on you if you have never visited. As soon as we walked in we liked the place. Friendly welcome, good service and local flavor. Here's the kicker, my husband is on a Keto Diet and we asked about PORK RINDS and low and behold they fixed up the BEST pork rind ever!! I've been to Mainland a few times since they opened and early on it was a rocking place on weekends with live music/push the tables aside and bust out "the worm" on the dancefloor. Recently visited during the week during happy hour, sitting outside at the container bar. The service and happy hour menu were fantastic but the ambiance felt like a scene from "The Waterboy" where Momma and Bobby are hosting Vicki Vallencourt for family dinner. Not to distract from the topic here, but if you recall it's in a bayou type surroundings full of flies and mosquitos. This was our second visit and both times we have been pleasantly surprised. ( no pun intended!) sitting out on the spacious patio with well chosen tunes in the background allows conversation in a relaxed ambience. And the no-see-ums and mosquitos- tho present- not much problem even though we were there at dusk. We sat on the periphery away from the smokers at the bar and after an initial delay were well served. We shared the 8 jumbo local shrimp lightly battered and fried perfectly with the mildly spicy bomb sauce and were delicious. Went here for a Saturday brunch despite it being a little cold and was really glad that we did. As far as I can tell all of their seating is outside so definitely a fairer weather kind of place. But the owner or manager rolled over an outdoor heater when we sat down and it was pretty nice in the sun. The mimosas weren't too expensive and didn't taste like a glass of OJ. We got the bomb shrimp as an app and they were great. They were my favorite thing. The batter was delicious and they said fresh local shrimp and they definitely seemed it. Of course the sauce was delicious and made me want more. My BLT was good but not great. I enjoyed it but it just didn't seem to be a ton of flavor like it read on the menu. The tots that came with it were great though. Only real complaint would be the service and that may have just because it was kind of cold out but she didn't seem to be around too much.
