    GOOD CHEESEBURGER &GIN N GINGER

This was a first time visit. The main building wasn't open due to shortage of staff. So we sat outside. Nice and cool underneath the trees in We went for half price burger night. We each ordered a burger that was pretty good. Also had several drinks and they were decent pours. I ordered a kids meal shrimp with tater tots. The tots were just right. Live performance with some good music. Nice casual evening.

Came here for the first time for lunch today. Some major positives: plenty of parking as well as indoor and outdoor seating, very friendly and helpful staff, and live music (the band was very good!). There are a good amount of options on the menu and the food is fairly priced. We ordered the mainland burger (medium) with the duck fat tater tots and the blackened mahi sandwich with fries. The mahi sandwich was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The burger was prepared well-done instead of medium (like ordered) and it tasted just average. The tots were labeled "duck fat" but they tasted like your average tater tot to me - nothing special. They have a decent beer selection but bottles and cans only - no draft options. Overall, it was a decent experience and we might be back in the future to try other items from the menu.

Started at 5:30 and ended at 7:30 pm. Should get half my cover back x 2.

Usually love this place. First time we've paid to listen to music. Supposed to be a Queen cover band. Only heard about four Queen songs. Paid $24 ($12 cover x 2) and the band started 30 minutes late (5:30), took a 25 minute break after and hour and then ended 1 1/2 hours early at 7:30. (See attached photo. Clearly shows 5-9 pm). Only played 2 of 4 hours and also took that long break. We had planned to make an evening of it and invited a bunch of friends only to find music over before the sun went down. Refund? -- BTW, bartenders and food still awesome. We'll be back but not for a cover charge.

We were driving back towards hotel from Sullivan Island when we saw the lights and the band. We turned around and went back to it. So happy we did. It was a good time.. the music was great.

As I travel the low country locating hidden gem restaurant's is one of pleasures. Did I luck up this time....or Id call this find FATE!  The staff was friendly and inviting from the moment we entered. The atmosphere was amazing! Outside they played Caribbean music which set the perfect mood. We started out with two of their signature cocktails! A Berry Mojito and the Cucumber Lemonade! Hands down the best cocktails Ive ever had! Our Entrees were plated beautifully and my soul and taste buds are still happy!

Was looking to beat to the brunch crowds these morning and tried somewhere new and glad we did! Very peaceful atmosphere and cute laid back vibe. The shrimps and grits were probably some of the best I had, they had crawfish, shrimp and crawfish is a lobster bisque sauce (that I could have drank, it was that good) for only $16. We also got the steak and eggs on a banquette, which was a NY strip with a fried egg and hollandaise for only $14. No complaints on the food! The only complaint I have (which is why I could give it 5 stars) is that our server seemed like he didn't really care to be there and they didn't have ANY coffee? I was very taken back by that, what kind of brunch place doesn't not have any coffee? Other than that we would come back!

Our bartender/server was great. He was friendly and professional, yet laid back. We shared two appetizers and loved them both. The Pimento Cheese & crackers had quite a zip to it. The Tuna Tostadas were excellent. Large and full of toppings made it a great choice. If I lived nearby, I would stop in often.

They also didn't have their HH menu updated online so there were things we wanted but couldn't get because it was a different menu. We ended up getting a couple dozen oysters, smoked fish dip and crispy tuna rice. Oysters were fresh and nicely chilled, tuna rice was well seasoned and the fish dip was ok, didn't have any smoky flavor or element to it and lacked in flavor. We ended up moving back down with our friends who had dogs so they ordered from the regular menu. The server was very accommodating and friendly. My friend got the burnt ends Mac n cheese and that was delicious! The place itself was huge and I could see it being a great spot for private events. Overall we had a good time.

Everything went smoothly until about 12/12:15 when I was trying to check out and I could not get anyone to come over and get me my check. (It was me and her at the bar.) I just wanted to leave. I ordered the buffalo fried shrimp that used to be good but was honestly awful. If I wasn't starving and in a time crunch I would have sent it back. Overall I think The Shelter is not what it used to be and I won't be going back. It used to be a fun spot with pretty decent bar food but it fell flat today. Which I possibly could have excused if it had been busy but it wasn't it was dead. The prices are a bit high for the quality you're getting.

I was a little worried when the website said call ahead seating was on hold thinking they would be slammed, but forged onward!' It was Sunday afternoon. I have read about nightmare parking but did not experience that at all. Zoomed right in. Yes, it was eleven bucks. I don't mind paying and refuse to get myself worked up over it. Ask for an outside table and no sooner did we sit down, the dolphins showed up!!! I consider myself an expert on dolphin spotting and had to show the table of 5 college age young ladies where they were located. They loved them as well. Who knew they would be so active in the middle of a busy waterway? As a former boat owner, I love watching those huge honkin' boats parallel park in between the baby ones. I do not have that skill , but it's entertaining to watch. Tyler was our server and was nice and attentive. Drinks were cold and quite good. I ordered a house Chardonnay and it was Cambria. Not crazy expensive either! Had shrimp tacos and steamed shrimp. So many steamed ones that I had a full meal the next day. I look forward to trying many more dishes. What I enjoyed the most was being part of a fun atmosphere in a fun place. Not a sad person in the place. That's always my attitude near any body of water. We had to try the Apple Pie shots since everyone seems to talk about them. This is way more complex than some apple flavor liquor. The ingredients take some prep work, and the result is something that literally tastes like apple pie. If they bottled this, I would definitely buy it. They have two specialty drinks, the Freshy and the Orange Crush, both of which are made with fresh squeezed juice squeezed right when you order. I had the Freshy which is orange or grapefruit juice with your favorite liquor. I chose grapefruit with vodka and even though I am not a huge fan of grapefruit the freshness and tartness of the drink made it quite enjoyable. My wife had the Orange Crush with Deep Eddy's O.J vodka, Triple Sec, Sprite and some of that fresh squeezed orange juice. It was nice and sweet which was good since we were ordering a lot of savory options. The Potato Skins arrived first and they were truly impressive. Good sized skins with the perfect amount of potato, not too thick or too dry and definitely homemade. They had mixed cheese, bacon and green onions served with sour cream also loaded with green onions. As far as all the potato skins I have had these were a standout. Next came the onion rings with an absolute massive serving for just eight dollars. You could tell they were homemade and served with a chili garlic sauce. The best part was the batter coating which was crispy yet didn't fall off when bent or bitten. They reheated nicely in the air fryer. Next, we tried the Toasted Raviolis which were filled with Italian sausage and served with a house made marinara. They were nice and crispy, but the true star was the marinara sauce which was thick and chunky with parmesan mixed all throughout. I wish they had more dishes that used this sauce as it was excellent. On the advice of some regulars, I tried the chicken fingers which were all breast meat, dill brined and hand battered. It was good advice since the chicken was juicy and tender with a flavorful coating. Sometimes it pays to ask. My wife ordered the thing they are known for their Philly Cheesesteak. She decided on double meat, and they were super generous to the point she looked at me and said, "I don't know how I am going to finish this!". This cheesesteak gets nominate for a lot of best of lists and I could see why. I liked that the cheese was mixed in with the meat and not just poured on top. She enjoyed it but said next time she will order it as is. This is a great place to hang out and relax and maybe catch a band or some bluegrass and enjoy a great meal!
