Love Boat
Patti D.

Crafthouse North is an interesting blend of sushi and classic bar food, nestled in a clean, modern facility in Mt. Pleasant. With a laid-back order-at-the-counter setup and a welcoming atmosphere, it offers a casual dining experience with both indoor seating and a covered outdoor patio--complete with a large TV, making it a solid spot for a low-key meal or game night. We sampled the pretzel-wrapped hotdog and the Love Boat for Two, which came with edamame and seaweed salad. The hotdog had good flavor, but unfortunately tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave--disappointing for something that could have been great fresh. The edamame was a bigger letdown: overcooked to the point of being mushy and hard to eat, with torn skins making it a struggle to enjoy. Thankfully, the sushi in the Love Boat was solid--fresh, well-prepared, and satisfying. The seaweed salad was also tasty and balanced out the experience. Service was friendly, though be aware that only one staff member was trained to take orders when we visited. This caused a bit of a wait at the counter, even with just a few people ahead of us. Since there's no table service, tipping expectations may feel different here, which might be a consideration for some. Overall, Crafthouse North has potential and a few bright spots--particularly the sushi and the space itself--but some menu consistency and operational tweaks would take it up a notch. I'd recommend it with a caveat: be patient during busy times, and choose your items wisely.

Crafthouse North serves up a solid variety of food and drink options in a casual setting that's perfect for a weeknight hang or a weekend bite. The special sushi rolls and ramen are surprisingly good--fresh, flavorful, and very creative. They've got a cool draft system that pours beer via magnetic bottom glasses (worth trying just for the novelty), and the local beer selection is excellent. They also offer a great lineup of non-alcoholic options, which is a big plus. The space is roomy inside, and there's a big patio that's dog-friendly, which is always appreciated. Service is quick and friendly, and it's easy to find a seat even during busier times. Definitely a go-to for casual eats, especially if you're in the mood for variety and want to bring your pup along!

Dragon roll, cucumber avocado roll and yakitori skewers special

We had a good time at Crafthouse North. On Thursday we played music bingo for the first time. It's was definitely hard to eat and listen to music at the same time but we made the best of it. I gotta say, the steam bun was a nice surprise. It had a nice crunch from the cucumber but the sweet marinade it was coated with was amazing. The sushi had a good consistency and the yakitori was a perfect portion. The service at the Crafthouse was great as all the bartenders were very attentive. Nice addition to North Mount Pleasant.

A needed bar in north Mount pleasant. Seat yourself with menus on the table. Order at the bar and food will be brought out to you. 3 drink size options for tap beer. Unique beers on tap and a fridge with other things (I saw Nowadays in there if that's your thing). Chips had old bay flavor which was a nice surprise and the truffle popcorn was absolutely delicious. Went for trivia, will def try the sushi next time it looked good

There's something to be said about home-grown bars, whose life is as eclectic as the owners and…read morecustomers themselves. Think about it, go to the nearest chain "bar" or "brewery" and it's all too sterile, devoid of character or worse forced character. This is where a cozy little and aptly named watering hole named "The Basement" resides. To be honest its location is a "blink and you'll miss it" other than the fact there's a protruding addon sticking out of the other uniform shops. I stopped by several months ago and it looked like an entertaining little pub but immediately left as my then girlfriend wanted coffee. I'm happy to report, I returned on a Saturday night to give it a proper go; as the British would say. I'll add that The Basement does have food, however I didn't indulge as I just came from a late lunch. To give a small bit of context, I worked at ACME bar and grill which is now Arts and I love the vibe it had as it was years of authentically cumulated goofiness from inebriated patrons . Now, inside The Basement, customers will notice hats hanging from the ceiling, dollars stapled to the support beams, the seats are weathered, picknick tables are inside with the patrons ranging from business casual to downright at home in flipflops, torn shorts and wife beater shirts. In other words, people come as they are and feel right at home. What I really enjoyed, along with the bar being the central anchor point off-center are two things. First, they have live music inside. I was with a pretty lady on our first date this evening and I don't know of a better excuse to get close and very comfortable so "we can hear each other" (I have my petty techniques yet they're affective). The music was typical low country, a couple people jamming out to familiar tunes that forced the audience to sing and toe tap. The second point is there's an arcade section of the establishment. Pinball games light up the room, a bb game, foosball, ancient arcade games like Mrs Pacman, ski ball; basically a "big kids" wonderland oozing with modern day novelties and 80s era nostalgia. All of these fun activities are vigorously guarded by an ever-watchful alligator! As for the staff, they're extremely nice and quick to serve up your favorite adult beverages that are reasonably priced. Even at 9pm on a Saturday night with the place starting to fill up, I never waited for more than 4 minutes or so. If I'm being honest with myself and I lived in Mt Pleasant, my name would change to Norm as I would be a fixture at the end of the bar. Overall, The Basement is a no-frills neighborhood bar that one can feel safe with great fellow patrons and good suds to enjoy during their stay. They offer many diversions from the normal TVs and phones which have become so prevalent. If you're in the area and the itch needs scratched stop on by and relax; The Basement has you covered in every way imaginable.

It's cheap & cheerful with friendly customers & staff. The bar menu for bar food is pretty typical but tasty. They have a large outdoor area with nice lighting, ideal in the summertime. The bar itself does not have walls per se but plastic sheeting that they can roll up in the summertime. Just love the whole vibe here. Team Trivia on a Thursday night always makes for exciting times.

The staff was friendly and attentive, and everything came out hot and fresh, except the fries they were lukewarm at best - tasty but would have given a 5 star if hot! But the stand out was the large beer cheese pretzel! We got three ya'll because they are soft and chewy yummy decadence!! The cheese is fabulous! $10 for one is a bit steep and I think $7 or $8 would be a nice way to bless the customer! And you absolutely can't beat their half-price burger Wednesdays--such an awesome deal for seriously delicious burgers. Now keep in mind they are made smaller including the bun but delicious and filling. With the pretzels added in the smaller burgers were plenty! We got the donut-hole ice cream dessert which was tasty and the grand kiddos enjoyed! Definitely a spot we'll keep coming back to on Wednesday's for sure! Outdoor dining welcomed dogs as I could hear one barking. Love that this is such "a thing" in the Charleston region!

We sat at the bar and ordered our beverages. The man bartendering could not answer a single question regarding the food menu. It was as if he walked in off of the street and just started bartending. He was friendly, but has zero hospitality skills. Why would someone invest in a restaurant, and then hire just anyone to represent the business??? Also, while asking questions regarding the menu items, he kept referring to "The Chef." This place sells hamburgers and French fries; what Chef???
