Starters were gyoza which were pillowy soft noodles stuffed with meat filling and a delicious dipping sauce- YUM! The signature edamame portion size was smaller than DI for the same price, but still packed in the delicious garlicky flavor. The vegetable spring rolls were okay- not much filling. Would have preferred one large one instead of three small ones. The salmon maki roll and crunchie crab rolls were delicious. Lastly, the chicken pad Thai---warning if you get it spicy it will be FIVE ALARM SPICY! I've had it many times at the DI location and they use sriracha - the Mount Pleasant location uses HOT PEPPER SEEDS... Never going to order it that way again! Whoa ! They open at 11:30 Tuesday through Sunday. When you walk in, the restaurant is clean and inviting. There's a sushi bar to the right, a dining and bar area to the left, and outdoor patio seating as well. I think there's also a larger dining room connected to the sushi bar side. The place has a nice atmosphere with stylish and colorful accents that make it feel lively and modern. The staff were all friendly and attentive, from the host to the servers. I had the house ramen bowl and it was fantastic--pork belly, egg, mushrooms, and noodles in a rich flavorful broth. I also tried the vegetarian spring rolls and the rock shrimp tempura, which came in a creamy spicy sauce. Everything I ordered was great. My husband and I both had the hibachi steak. It was very good. My steak wasn't rare as I ordered but the server quickly offered to make it again. It tasted fine so I said no need. Imagine my surprise when we were ready to leave, the server brought me a to go box with steak cooked the way I wanted it! The other couple had sushi and were very happy. We have been coming here for about five years pretty frequently for their happy hour. Usually have great service and great food. Tonight was the worst experience that I have ever had eating ANYWHERE. We had to sit in the bar area for the happy hour and the bartender was busy visibly taking shots with people up at the bar and never once came to check on our table after our food was dropped. We had no drinks for over 30 minutes. We had to get our own silverware and our own napkins. There were several people also who were waiting to be served and never once did the bartender even look back up at us. After we went to go ask for a manager just to be able to pay our check and get the out of there, the hostess ran to the bartender and said that I was complaining about him. She was sitting in the bar instead of at the host stand. So unprofessional. When the manager finally brought the bartender over, I explained to him that this was the worst service that we had ever received, and he didn't even bother to check in on us and we literally had to serve ourselves. I know what to expect when I come here and enjoy myself as long as I don't set my expectations high. I love the Yakitori mushroom skewers and the avocado maki. Most of the time the ingredients are fresh and it makes for a great meal. There have also been a couple times when I've gotten sushi and the rice tastes either old or overcooked since the consistency of the rice is almost chewy and crunchy at the same time. Some orders they have also gotten completely wrong. All that being said, it's still my go-to place when I'm looking for sushi since most of the time they do it right. The staff is friendly enough and I am generally satisfied when I eat here. I've been to this Wasabi in Mt. Pleasant several times and it has been ok, but the only reason we returned so many times was due to the fact it was conveniently located nearby. My wife liked the food, but I wasn't really a big fan of the sushi here. I think their location on Daniel Island is much better, but still fails in comparison to other sushi restaurants. The Mt. Pleasant location is in a good spot near Wal-Mart and the area gets a lot of traffic; but it's usually never busy. Dinner and lunch have also been positive experiences, with numerous hibachi and teriyaki combo offerings. Service staff have been friendly and efficient. Portions are hearty. Sushi is generally solid, with the fish being of decent quality. The selection is pretty standard--salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, etc. I've asked for uni on multiple occasions, but they never seem to have it. There are several offerings on the kids' menu and the portions are surprisingly generous. Wasabi has been a favorite of my family for several years now. If you're looking for something revolutionary, you won't find it here. The rock shrimp has a bit too much sauce for me, but I was informed by the spouse that I was just wrong and there is no such thing. For dinner, I went with two rolls (a shrimp and a surf and turf). Burns went with a twice cooked chicken dish. Both were great! The surf and turf alone would have been plenty for a meal, so of course I left with leftovers. I also went ahead and splurged on a blueberry ginger lemonade - yummy! For dessert, we went with this chocolate lava cake + bananas foster mix. It sounds strange, but it totally works. I ended the night with their dessert martini - so much chocolate! Our waitress was amazing. I love the Urban chic vibe of Wasabi. The service we received was top notch. We took my parents and here. They don't normally do sushi or Japanese, I was trying to help them expand their horizons. Our waitress Catarina was so pleasant and patient. She was very knowledgeable about all items on the menu. The manager also checked in on us. He was very personable and thanked us for coming in. Quite possibly the best sushi experience I've ever had. Both the service and the food was spectacular and I left feeling happier and more sated than I think I ever have with a sushi experience. Chef Chan really knows what he's doing when it comes to true Japanese sushi. The sushi rice is a perfect texture and is very flavorful, and the fish is much higher quality than I've seen at many other sushi restaurants in Charleston (and especially in Mt Pleasant). I highly recommend doing a chef's choice tasting experience because it will open up your eyes to new flavor combos and options that you might not have chosen for yourself, but will completely blow your mind.
