So Wasabi used to be my favorite place to go for sushi. I do have to say that this location used to rock and now I think it is time for them to roll to the next concept of restaurant or change somethings around. The food is ok. It used to be killer now it taste just like the food you get from the mall. It really doesn't seem that fresh like it used to be. The service stinks! I will not go to this restaurant again even if I'm starving to death. Website says they close at 10pm. Went in at 9:25 on Friday night and was seated and told how to access the menu. Then we were told that the kitchen closes in 2 minute. This is the 2nd time in 2 years I've left this restaurant completely pissed off. If you advertise that you are open until 10 then stay open until 10 and don't seat people and then tell them you will not serve them. read more

Went there last night for my birthday. Nice atmosphere. They sat us at a table in the bar. We placed our order. Drinks were fine. The soup and salad came out. When the waiter finally came he said the dinner was coming. I asked where's our appetizer. The poke on a won ton was good. My dinner came before I finished it. I had the Omahase sashimi and ordered rice on the side. I didn't get it and the waiter didn't return I asked the bartender about it the fish was good. When we were done I waited 10 minutes for the check I left my wife to wait and ran out to do something. Ther are too many other sushi places with better service to try. read more

I don't understand why this restaurant gets such good reviews. The sushi is not good. We ordered a tuna roll and salmon with spicy mayo. First of all, when we got home, I noticed that the spicy mayo was in a condiment cup! Interesting because I expected it to be sprinkled over top the roll. When it came to eating, the fish was so dense and not fresh or cut correctly per it was chewy. Fresh salmon and tuna should melt in you mouth. So disappointed and gross. I spent about $65 getting many different items and all together I am not pleased. This is my second experience at this restaurant as I always give a restaurant two tries, just in case the kitchen is having an off night. Both times are disappointing. read more

June 15, 2017 I think Wasabi is under-rated. I stopped in for lunch yesterday and had a great meal! I had the dog with me, so we sat outside. It was hot but not uncomfortable. Our waiter was very good, a young man with a fine attitude. Came and checked on us regularly without hovering. My "Twice Cooked Chicken" was a winner. You really couldn't have changed anything to make it better. Bite sized pieces of tender chicken. It was perfect! The right amount of spice to get that sweet with just a small amount of heat... perfect! The Sushi was fresh and very good. They had a nice, local Huger Street on tap that came cold and refreshing. Wanting to finally use our $10 gift certificates that we got during last years Yelp event here, we ventured over to Mt. P Saturday afternoon for drinks and sushi. Three of us went, and we were seated at a tall table in the bar area. After looking over the cocktail menu (which has no prices listed and has become a big pet peeve of mine) I ordered the gin mule. I love gin so I was excited to try it. It was good, but all I really tasted was the ginger beer. Definitely not a heavy pour of gin... I found out when the bill came it was $10 plus a $0.50 liquor tax!! For food my friend always orders fried calamari whenever she can, and the server Mia, said it was the best in town, in her opinion. And it was good! The tempura batter is so much lighter and less greasy then what you'll normally get. Plus the spicy kimchi sauce and scallion pesto were both great sauces. For my sushi roll, as soon as I saw the Seabass Maki listed, I knew I had to get that. Chilean seabass is one of my favorite fishes. And this was good. The fish was delicate and flaky. The only down side was that there were only 6 small rolls. I finished all of them and was hungry still. And for $12, you'd hope to at least get 8 rolls at a minimum. I also swapped out one of my rolls with Brenda so I could try her seafood dynamite roll. Nothing special about the California roll, but wow the scallop, calamari, crab and asparagus baked with spicy dynamite sauce salad on top of the roll was amazing! I would go back and just order a bowl of that deliciousness. All and all it's a good restaurant with a large menu and a good valued menu for lunch time. One thing I did mention to Mia was about how filthy their white booths have gotten since the last time we were there. From where we were seated I had a perfect view down the row of booths and they're so stained and almost black in spots now. She said they get scrubbed all week long but it's nothing that's going to come out now. Too bad, bc it really was pretty, just not practical! read more

There is one bartender there who is unstable and on a power trip = bad combination. I had one beer at 5:30 pm and my wife met me there with our 8 month old baby sleeping in the stroller. We left the stroller 5 ft away from us as our baby slept. The bartender came over with an angry look on his face and reprimanded me saying, "You can't bring a baby to this bar area." I said he's not at the bar. He's in his stroller next to the wall 5 feet away. He got very nasty and said we couldn't be there anymore and I shouldn't have a baby in there anyway. I could not believe it. He kicked my baby out of the restaurant...an 8 month old!! I live local and I have spent so much money there. I will never go there again and will tell everyone else not to unless that a%#!hole is no longer there! I hope the owner reads this! read more

HAPPY HOUR REVIEW ONLY. Can't complain about this place! Came for a quick happy hour trip and some bites on a Thursday. I ordered a beer and a dirty gin martini and my wife some wine. For apps we ordered seaweed salad and tuna Pizza for apps. Recommend both! For rolls we ordered a spicy salmon, spicy crab, and tuna and avocado. The service here is top notice. Everyone is super friendly, attentive, and make you feel very welcome. Ambience is wonderful. Looking forward to getting here when the weather warms up and sitting by the bar next to the open window/doors. My friend ordered wine and he scolded her- told her she can only drink her wine out of a styrofoam cup. We wanted to sit outside and eat dinner on the patio on a beautiful day. Why should anyone be forced to drink out of a styrofoam cup at a restaurant like that? My friend said she and her husband were reprimanded by the same bartender for bringing their sleeping baby near a high top table close to the bar. It took you long enough Wasabi! After the shuttering of Neil Jordans, I patiently waited to see what might take over this space in the Market at Oakland plaza. There were rumors flying of different restaurant groups taking over the space, and then out came a definitive announcement that it would be a Wasabi. To be honest, I wasn't thrilled about the idea considering there's plenty to choose from when it comes to sushi/hibachi in the area. On the other hand, I was thrilled it wasn't becoming the next Applebee's or some other garbage. I live nearby and would often drive through and wonder when they'd open and what in the world they're exactly doing in there. Neil Jordans only lasted a short time so it seemed there wouldn't be much need for a full overhaul. Whether it was needed or not, Wasabi did an amazing job transforming the space. It used to be all dark and steakhouse-y, with high booths that smelled of leather and mahogany... not anymore! The new look is clean and bright covered in white with bursts of color around the restaurant. They made better use of the space and broke it up into sections with a clearly defined dining room, a 15-20 person sushi bar, and a bar area with plenty of dinner seating as well. They moved the front door to the middle of the building instead of walking directly into the bar. Where the old door was in now big glass bay doors that will open up with the warm weather for an open air bar area. I was intent on trying out a few apps and then a sampling of sushi to get a better feel for the menu, but I was craving some delicious hibachi and couldn't resist. Per usual, it comes with soup, salad, veggies, and rice. For a protein, I chose the Hiroshi Combination with Filet Mignon and Jumbo Scallops. I especially enjoyed the salad compared to other hibachi places and the quality across the board was increased a level to match the increase in price. The only complaint I had on the food is that the "Jumbo Scallops" were not so jumbo. Otherwise the meal was excellent. Now that I've got my hibachi craving out of the way, I'm looking forward to heading back for sushi and apps. After checking out their lunch and happy hour menus, I'm sure I'll be back often to sample the rest of the menu and update accordingly. Plus, the cocktails are real cocktails. Forget about you're standard half-assed restaurant drinks. These are more like downtown cocktail bar quality... at least the Rye Smash I had was. Considering they just opened, all of the staff, including our server Shannon, did an amazing job, the food was great, the drinks were stellar, and I can't wait to come back. When my husband and I are in the Mt. Pleasant area we usually stop by Wasabi for something light between meals, Lunch, or for Dinner. Simple, quick, no fuss sushi. As their namesake, their wasabi is probably the best quality I have had in a while; you can tell it isn't that powder junk mixed with water. I am usually picky (paranoid) about where I get my sushi from and this place is one that I can trust. side note: I always get their green tea which is a matcha and genmai cha mix (super delicious if you are into stronger tea). Everyone was friendly and the decor was chic yet comfortable. Anthony was so friendly, helpful and attentive, he made us feel like family. As a first timer there, he helped us navigate the menu to our personal palates and his recommendations were on point! Don't miss the Lotus Flower and Eel with Shrimp Tempura rolls. Equally delicious, the Twice Cooked Chicken and Pad Thai came out well prepared and presented. I don't usually order dessert, but we couldn't resist the fried cheesecake with green tea ice cream. Had a very enjoyable lunch today. I had chicken pad thai and Sophia had the Bento Box with teriyaki shrimp. Good sized portions and both entrees were excellent. Both were under ten dollars and included a tasty house salad to start. It's a good-sized restaurant and the placement of the tables and booths affords plenty of privacy from fellow diners. They have sushi, hibachi, and udon noodle options, plus some Thai options. It was hard to choose! I had the shrimp udon noodle dish. It was great, though there weren't as many veggies as I would have liked. My husband had the cashew nut chicken and shrimp, and his had a ton of veggies, so it was awesome. We asked for sriracha because we like a little spice and our dishes were not spicy at all. We also had the house soup and ginger salad to start, and both were great. I love the Wasabis in Summerville and super excited when they build one in Mt. Pleasant. The Mt. Pleasant location is completely different than the Summerville one. Although the decor is very nice the food is pretty mediocre. This is not a location that I would frequent often at all. If you are going to open another restaurant with the same name as other locations there is some expectations of similar food and drinks but I was wrong in this case. Staff are always very nice and not long wait times but the food it not something to brag about. If you want cheap, easy, and simple sushi than this is the place. If you want more of a variety and better quality I would suggest going some place else. read more

We ordered takeout and were charged .50 "take out fee" .. it's not a lot of money but it's a cheap shot. Food has also gone downhill . The fried rice doesn't even have peas or any veggies or egg that you can see .. my guess is that it's just flavoring . They only give you a half of a small take out container of rice now ... so weird to see the container half full. Spring rolls were a greasy mess that we threw out .. and you only get two now instead of three .I've never seen that before... no leftover Japanese / Chinese food . WTH ? I had dinner with my wife tonight at this location, and Mike the Manager on duty assisted us greatly. Really explained the menu options well, and was very friendly and personable. I could see him frequently making sure that the patrons were satisfied with the experience. The hibachi combination that my wife and I shared along with the appetizer was delicious. Dean our server was very knowledgeable on suggesting different options, and he made sure that certain sauces we wanted to try was available. The atmosphere was very pleasant, and the establishment was very clean. Overall a great experience, and I would definitely recommend this location. The management also honors military personnel with a 10 - 20 percent discount either during the week or weekend dining. read more

Had dinner here with 8 people on Friday around 7-made reservations ahead. Had good decor and were seated promptly. After that, things went downhill. The appetizers came out very haphazardly. One right away and the other 3 or 4 apps spread out over about 20 minutes!! One of the kitchen runners really didn't appear to have any training. Would come out with food and didn't know what table it belonged to. Also didn't know the names of what he was delivering-we just had to recognize it was ours! And our Server was very nice but not on point at all. Forgot to ask for one of our party's dinner order-she had to stop him from leaving without it! We had to ask for water refills (with completely empty glasses), had to either MAKE him take our dirty plates or put them on another empty table ourselves. And the poor timing extended into our entrees. One couple didn't get their third sushi roll until we were all done eating!! Just very bad service-not on top of it!! Normally I give some leverage if the restaurant is slammed but it was only two tables in our section-maybe he had a section on the other side of the restaurant??? I haven't even talked about the food. We had sushi mostly and some hibachi. The food is the only reason this is 3 stars. Was really pretty good food but the poor timing coming from the kitchen to the table and the really poor service from our server eclipsed the tasty food. We were all grumpy-but-with-full-bellies, ready to leave at the end! We're not locals, but if we were would firmly cross this off the list. Well, maybe only for takeout.
