I have a review for Pieloon. PERSONALLY it was the worst $100 spent! I ordered me and my daughter a burger and the meat was so thick and undercooked. My mom ordered chicken casa grande and even the presentation was awful. They use the marinara sauce when it said (tomato) in the description and the chicken breast has no seasoning. We didn't eat anything. In my opinion all food we ordered had no taste. Again this is my OPINION. The server spilled hot coffee on my husband, they were so understaffed she hardly checked in and had an attitude. When the check came in , and I asked her to explain the charges (because the receipt does not itemize what charge belongs to what) she had an attitude. Will never be coming back. For my birthday my husband got me a million slices of pie from here cuz I like pie but he doesn't and we don't usually get it (ok it was I think 6 slices ) so I could try more flavors...they were ALL TERRIBLE. A waste of my sugar intake! I tried chocolate crème, lemon meringue, coconut creme, apple, and can't remember the others but there wasn't one good one. The pudding consistency was WEIRD and thick almost like agar on a Petri dish, even the crème tasted weird. Everything was super artificial tasting. I hate waste and even ended up throwing out most of it. The meringue was just wrong and the lemon custard part's consistency and taste was off too. Every time I go here the food and service is usually pretty good I wish I could say the same for today. The only thing that irritated me was the waitress's attitude, she walked over no hello no Goodmorning , which is fine you choose how you want to represent your establishment but when you work for a restaurant you want to at least sound and look welcoming so you get some returning customers. Every time we added something on to our order it was a "mmmm thank you" which didn't feel genuine more like we were being rushed to pick and on top of that my order was the most basic shit there so it's like how can you mess up some scrambled eggs. Not once but twice my eggs came out full of egg shells every single bite I took was crunchy. So I told my waitress, she responded back with a funky face and a "wellll they are busy and egg shells do fall in there sometimes" and sorta lifted her shoulders at me like saying "oh well" that doesn't matter to me I'm paying a good chunk of money for my food the least you can do is make it correctly and keep your snarky comments to yourself. Pies taste like expired artificial ingredients. Pumpkin pie tastes like cinnamon dough. Banana pie had half a banana fall out and the custard that makes the pie was like jello. I don't know about the rest of their food but things that 100% of what I ordered I threw it away after one bite doesn't entice me to try anything else. But I will say customer service was great. It's been around for decades so I assumed it must be good right? I know this restaurant is quite aged, but there is a strong odor of old oil and bleach that slaps you when you walk in. Thought I'd grab something to get for dinner (keeping the night stress-free as school starts tomorrow), so we'll see how the food turns out. So far, restrooms (to say the least) nit well kept. Service, well, they seem to be kind enough, but not too attentive as they conversed within themselves, they did come to our table after waving down the help by flailing my me u around. The server didn't hear the order correctly, had to reorder after food came to the table, then was told couldn't order something (from the senior menu and apparently senior menus u can't take our, but I hasn't said that), but then server apologize and said she had thought I said something else. I've been here many times the food is great, especially for breakfast. They have good pies.

Once it reopened after the pandemic, it's never been the same. Food's either overcooked or undercooked. Staff is substandard. I returned my plate because it was burnt on one end and swimming in grease on the other (an omelette) & she didn't even ask if I wanted anything else . Tip: Don't serve food with seeds in it. (I didn't say anything) When I asked for a salad & asked which type of lettuce it used, he said "regular." I told him I needed to make sure it wasn't Romaine. Then, when he asked what dressing I wanted, I said, no dressing. When the "salad" finally came, it was just a white plate of cut-up iceberg lettuce, Nothing Else, THAT'S ALL! If u ask me, "Which dressing" and I say "no dressing," that doesn't mean I want no tomatoes or onion or crouton or other stuff a SALAD comes with! (I told him I'd rather change to the soup side instead of the salad side but to-go, WHICH IS WHY I didn't say anything after that when the sandwich came and I had to deal with that bread; and I didn't say anything about the other unsatisfactory stuff since I had already asked them to swtich the plate of nothing but light green cut-up lettuce to the soup option.) One of the only places in Downey with actual brunch food. On Sunday around 11:30, the wait was about 15 minutes. I really liked the outdoor seating during COVID. It was surprisingly cool under the tent. We ordered the Pieloon Omelette and the Loon Special (omelette). We both orderd the super spuds and sourdough toast. The potatoes were so good but the sourdough toast was a HUGE disappointment. Only one of the toast was toasted and the other one had clearly been sitting out for a while because the toast was cold. Other than that, the omelette was delicious. We both had coffees but I'm pretty sure the coffees were decaf. PAPER STRAWS!!! I don't think any other restaurant in Downey provides paper straws. I LOVED how on top of it they were to be eco-friendly. Downey is so behind in these types of trends/eco-friendly measures so I really thought that was nice. The waiters seem to be really forgetful or aren't trained to bring water/condiments when first sat down so we had to ask multiple waiters. Still in this pandemic, for them to wear long sleeve black shirts and provide the great service, it was a delight. They were so patient during the heat, sweating through their clothes. Mom and pop style restaurant, friendly and attentive service, delicious food. We had the Loon Omelette with cottage fries and the Avocado Breeze omelette (it had lots of avocado) with super spuds. The coffee was fresh. We were able to substitute the toast for a pancake. Overall a good eating experience and we will be coming back to this establishment. Second tmie here for breakfast and it's packed but they serve you quickly and the service is great. They kept refilling my coffee, yummy coffee at that. What can't you love at this hidden gem restaurant. It's one of my hometown favorites... No really I've been coming here for 4 years already and never disappointed. The staff is al ways attentive and kind, the restaurant is always clean, with a calm/ private feel ambiance and the food is by the far the best home feel gourmet food ever. I'll hands down choose this restaurant over a Dennys, Norms, Ihop even Marie Callendars restaurant. Def try the chicken Stephanie, BBQ chicken Salad, Cajun entree or red snapper entire which are all just a couple of my favorites here. Their garlic bread Is also so good! Pieloon is back in action after 8 months being closed due to a fire on the roof somehow. They have changed the inside and outside look of the restaurant. It's more modern and dated which is more inviting. There's signs & new cool clear fixture lights and new baseboards up, it's just so much better but still has the same classic look. I had the Wednesday special of taco salad for $8.99. It was tasty. Graded cheese Pico de Gallo for the salad dressing and a lot of ground beef seasoned. So so good along with tortilla chips sliced on top. Prices seem to be the same. Oooo Oo all the staff came back too. That makes me happy. I am glad and relived it nicee to see friendly faces again. Lots of seating. Lots of parking. If no parking, park in the mall parking and walk around the mall wall. Serviice is alllllways good. This review is to give Melanie recognition for providing exceptional service. This was my 3rd time visiting. The first time we had an amazing server he was an older gentleman, he was very attentive and on point. The 2nd time I had a woman server short hair not very tall she was not attentive at all very bad service to the point where I wasn't planning to return, but I ended up coming a 3rd time unfortunately I ended up with the same server she dyed her hair blue a repeat of bad service. Thankfully I saw Melanie running around attending to guests I asked her for help as my server forgot several things and kept bypassing me. Melanie picked up our servers slack and did it with a smile and no hesitation. Whenever Melanie passed by she checked on me making sure I was good unlike our server. Our server took our order and gave us our check and never once checked on us, horrible service. Anyhow Melanie deserves all the recognition. She should be considered a valuable asset to your team, I truly hope management gives her the recognition she deserves and a big fat raise to go with it. read more
