We stopped by Piedra, the new Mexican spot in Bottleworks, and absolutely loved it! We sat at the bar and had really great service. The bartenders were very friendly and welcoming, and even made off-menu drinks for us based on what we liked. My tequila sour was perfect and one of the best I've had in a while. They brought out a complimentary little starter with salsa, bean dip, and crisped corn tortillas with tajín. It was a creative touch, though I kind of wished it was regular chips. We shared the steak fajitas and they were very tasty. The steak was tender and flavorful, came with rice and refried beans, and the guacamole was delicious (really limey!). It came out sizzling! The space is beautiful but a little over the top, with lots of fake plants and big statues. Even so, it adds to the energy and excitement of the restaurant. It was packed when we went and the wait was 2 hours, but we got a spot at the bar so we didn't have to wait the whole time. My only small note is that there weren't any purse hooks under the bar. Remember the area on college and mass ave /!bottleworks that was under construction for a long long time? Well well well one of the new spots is Piedra. Public parking is super convenient and you only need to walk 10 steps outside in extreme winter to get to the restaurant. Upon entering, I was greeted by a hostess and I saw many folks waiting for their table, and they all had reservations. We were seated within 10 minutes, and overall our service was not bad at all as I originally expected seeing the crowd at the front. As soon as we sat down (it was a tiny table for two), the server brought us hard tortilla with salsa and bean dip. It was alright. Next we ordered calamari appetizer which came fairly quickly. It was fresh from the fryer. Soon after we placed our drinks order and dinner order since the kitchen was getting busy. Funny enough our drinks and dinner came together so we didn't get much time to enjoy our drinks and appetizer, and it was difficult to fit everything on our tiny table. For dessert, we got the chocolate flan which was good too. I really liked the salmon entree and the sides it came with. The food was flavorful and I liked the speed of service but this wouldn't be the place to enjoy the ambience as it was loud and we felt a bit rushed. Let's start with the obvious this restaurant is gorgeous. I mean gorgeous you want somewhere stunning to eat you have to come here. The art the decor the attention to detail. They had a DJ spinning fun songs during dinner but they volume was reasonable enough to still have a conversation with the folks at your table. We had 5 people at a half moon table and i felt like the table was in my lap and there wasn't room to hold much on the actual table. Drinks were great! Presentation, taste and amount of alcohol v the price. Our server was great and others around the restaurant were quite friendly (i.e. complimentary, helpful with coats/bags). The menu is a bit interesting with $20 tacos and then $70 steaks. I opted for the birria tacos and still had one to take home. They were quite tasty. Music is LOUD. The food is the only saving grace here. The tomahawk steak was genuinely excellent--one of the best I've had--but even that wasn't perfect. The salt added at the end completely overpowered the meat. If you order it, tell them not to do that. The service was absolutely terrible. It took 17 minutes just to get water, then another 15 minutes for cocktails. One of the drinks we ordered never arrived, and I'm pretty sure we still paid for it. No explanation, no apology--nothing. That's unacceptable at this price point. The decor and atmosphere are very nice, but it's extremely loud, making conversation difficult and adding to the overall frustration. If I'd done a review after brunch during the snowstorm, it would have been 5 stars. Our waiter Hugo was outstanding. They need a bunch more like him! Unfortunately, he wasn't there for the dinner experience I just had, which was memorably horrible! For starters, the level of the music is too loud. It's apparently a strategy that gets people to drink more and eat faster- all about quick profit over the comfort of patrons. As my companions noted, this is a pricier restaurant so the people with the most money to spend are least likely to want to come here due to the sound. I've been at dance clubs at the same volume. And when you're there to connect with friends over food, but are seated right under an obnoxiously loud speaker, the experience created is negative. And it was a Sunday evening just after 6- not Saturday at midnight. Nothing like spending $70 on dinner and barely hearing a word said at your table. My ears were still ringing when I left. Our request to lower the volume was denied. Insert middle finger here. The food: Fideos soup was fine- nothing super special, but edible. Tonight, I ordered the shrimp, served whole- not sure who thought this was a good idea, but the amount of exertion it took to deshell it was not worth the payoff. The shrimp were overcooked, and the oversized steak knife provided had a rounded top, which isn't so helpful when trying to peel a shrimp. Unless I was supposed to do that with my hands? But they provide one cheap paper napkin with the meal and despite asking twice for more, never got that. If you have any issues with background noise: avoid at all costs. Highly recommend trying brunch in inclement weather. Way more inviting and accommodating. read more

We decided to try Piedra for our anniversary date and what a wonderful experience it was! The vibe is AMAZING! Everything in the restaurant is absolutely beautiful! We were greeted and seated right away (we did have a reservation). The booth was comfortable and spacious. Our waitress came right over offered us drinks and explained some of the menu. Throughout the meal she checked back regularly, kept our drinks filled, and empty plates cleared. They offer crispy tortillas with salsa and beans to start your meal. We also had guacamole and Piedrafella (their play on oysters Rockerfeller) both were a 10/10! Entrees were lamb chops which were well flavored and tender and the New York Filet, I order steak all done and not everyone does this well, but they did, it was cooked all the way through and still juicy however it had very little seasoning. We came to Piedra for brunch to celebrate my mother's 68th birthday, hoping for a memorable experience. The space itself is beautiful -- the ambiance and design are genuinely appealing -- but that's where the positives mostly end. The music was turned up to an absurd level for a Saturday brunch. It felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant. We could barely hear each other across the table, and even trying to communicate with the staff was difficult because of the volume. Unfortunately, the service was equally disappointing. The staff seemed completely overwhelmed and confused by very basic requests. Dishes sat on the table long after we finished them, cutlery wasn't refreshed between courses, and simple service steps just didn't happen. It felt disorganized from start to finish. The bigger issue, though, was the food. My eggs were prepared incorrectly twice. When I spoke with the manager and chef about it, instead of offering a solution, I was told, "maybe we are too Mexican for you." That comment was honestly shocking and insulting. Asking for scrambled eggs instead of fried has nothing to do with culture. If a modification can't be accommodated, just say so -- but don't shift the blame onto the customer after multiple failed attempts to get a simple dish right. In the end, this was a $200+ brunch that felt wildly overpriced for both the quality of the food and the level of service. Piedra may look great in influencer reels, but the actual dining experience did not match the hype. I wouldn't return, and I wouldn't recommend it. read more

What an amazing restaurant... Mexican fine dining. Cheap? NO. Worth it? YES! You can tell as soon as you enter this exquisite space. It is simply beautiful. Tasteful decor wherever you look. Most amazingly, they will bring you a purse holder which looks like a bird perch so your purse does not have to sit on the floor... top that. Instead of the traditional salsa and chips, you are greeted with a duo of dips, one seems to be refried beans and the other idk, but it's spicy. It comes along with some crunchy tortillas. Delish. For starters I ordered the frozen strawberry Margarita. It came in a sizeable glass and was so good. It really hit the spot. Highly recommend. I started with the Carpaccio, it is hard to find a good one around Indy, but this one ranks highly. A big plate of paper thin slices of, yes, raw beef filet. topped with capers, drizzle of balsamic and some other dressing. It had a mountain of greens with onions on top nicely dressed with a citrussy dressing. I also tasted the Ceviche and the Guacamole my guests had ordered. Both were beautifully presented. The Ceviche was served in an oblong lava stone dish that weighed a ton. Fresh fish, tomatoes, onions and so on in a citrus marinade. Very nicely done. The guacamole presented on a flat dish, like a mountain range and alongside another mountain of chips. And so smooth and tasty. I had ordered the Chimichanga with chicken, which was nicely presented alongside a dish of queso, refried beans, avocado slices, Pico de Gallo and perfectly seasoned rice. Unfortunately I was already getting full and could only eat half of it. My friends enjoyed the octopus entree and the other had shrimp tacos. The octopus received very high ratings, whereas the tacos only received a 'good' which translates to a little above average, but nothing to write home about. Service was impeccable. For your leftovers they will also bring you a plastic bag and even open it for you. All in all, this place is definitely living up to the hype. Definitely worthy of special occasions or just to spoil yourself. read more

What a fun evening to have dinner with two of my best friends ! We were able to get a reservation at Piedra, but ran kind of late. We did call to let them know, and over the phone they said okay..however, once we arrived at the restaurant the hostess wasn't the most pleasant. I understand how busy restaurants are, especially a new one like this, but being friendly/polite costs nothing. We did have to wait a few minutes, but once seated, our server and her trainee, were very sweet. They gave us great recommendations on drinks and food, and overall we were pretty satisfied. I looked over the menu, and I knew immediately that I wanted the oysters. They. Were. Fantastic. I would go back simply for those. We also shared the chicken taquitos, and calamari. I thoroughly enjoyed the calamari, but the taquitos were a little cold. We assumed it was because of the guacamole..if those were a few ticks warmer, they would have been my second favorite thing to eat. I ordered the fajitas 3 ways for my entree. They were also pretty good. My only complaint about those was the chicken not being very seasoned. I would order them again, but just with steak or steak and shrimp if they would allow that. My one other observation and complaint...there was a Dj. He was mixing the music very well, but at one point a "hip hop and r&b" song came on. From what I noticed, everyone in that restaurant was snapping their fingers and singing along...until, who I believe was the manager or some authority figure, came over to the Dj and asked him to turn it off. I was very disappointed seeing that. I am a woman who loves all types of music, so not being able to hear a song that everyone seemed to be enjoying was disappointing. Had an amazing dinner here! Might be becoming a favorite go to. Pretty as before. Wanted to ty this place for dinner after coming for brunch. Didn't disappoint. We had res at 5, got in about 5:08, had to wait until about 525 before being seated. It was very busy here. Lots of people waiting with reservations. Ambiance is great. There wasn't a DJ yet but the music didn't let you miss that, it was great. It was funny the waitress said DJ is coming but never saw him in the hour + that we were there. Had the cute purse hanger. Came for my friend's birthday and thought we'd get the same treatment we got last time where they give you 3 choices of things you can get i.e. a shot, dessert, or something else i don't remember. We didn't receive any of that. The waitress def knew it was our friends bday. The food was great. I got the lamb chops. The veggies were good and the pompano potatoes as well. A bit diff and mushier than id like but still good. Lucky I had a free tres leches dessert card from the last time for writing a review so we had that which was great! Drinks were good as well. Had a girls date night here with my friend and she suggested this new "Mexican steakhouse" on Mass Ave so we just had to try it! I booked the reservation maybe a week in advance and asked for the bar area, but was seated upstairs. No biggie because the view up there was ABSOLUTELY phenomenal. This place makes you feel like you aren't even in Indy. It's very glamorous and aesthetically pleasing (big win for me) our server was so cute and nice. The drinks took so long to come out we actually got our apps before our cocktails which we ordered first but, the bar was a little backed up. Both cocktails we had were well balanced. I had a mezcal based cocktail and a gin based cocktail (I don't typically drink gin). I liked her drinks more but my first drink was called a Rubi 3/5 and the second one was a Topacio Imperial 4/5. Our apps were the oysters Piedra-feller 5/5, beef carpaccio (which was a first for me 4/5 and chips and guacamole 5/5. I loveeeeeee oysters so I could've had a whole dozen to myself they were so good and cheesy! I'd never had beef carpaccio but like beef tartare so figured I would enjoy this...and DID it was soooooo good a little salty but that's probably from the capers but the balance of the beef and arugula was chefs kiss! For our entrees I ordered the Molcajete and my friend had the whole fried snapper. The molcajete sounded good and looked amazing but fell short on flavor 3/5. My friend almost devoured her entire snapper so safe to say that was a 5/5. I did have enough food to take home as the Molcajete is hugeeee. Can't wait to come back for a date! Brunch at Piedra Mexican Steakhouse was a whole moment. I came on a Friday afternoon and loved that they actually offer brunch every day. I grabbed a mimosa flight and instantly knew I made the right choice. Only sad part was realizing the Tres Leches item on the brunch menu is Saturday and Sunday only, so I skipped the brunch menu and went with the lamb chops after my server told me they were the move over the octopus. She was so right. The lamb chops were insanely good. We started with the churro waffles which were super yummy. My friend ordered the steak and eggs and we also each tried the mojito margarita which was light and refreshing. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning. It was nicely decorated. We both enjoyed our meals. I took the rest of mine home and it was a whole additional meal. Our service was great from our waitress but I'd give them 3.5 stars for the hostess. Our reservation was for 9:00, we literally walked in at 9:14 (they have a 15 min grace period) and two people were in front of us. By the time we got to the hostess (who never left her station) it was like 9:17 and this girl was so cold and flat and said they have a 15 minute grace period and they gave our table away so we have to wait but we can wait at the bar if we'd like. As I pushed back she ignored me and stated again we can wait and it's 9:17. So we concluded they gave our table away before the 15 min was up. We sat at the bar which was kind of tight and the hostess girl looked irritated that she had to come check on us to seat us at our table and even asked if we still want our table since we're at the bar. Walking inside Piedra made me feel like I was not in Indiana. The lights are dim, design is sleek and music is bumping. I was not welcomed in the most warm way, some confusions with the reservation and possibly the large crowd that entered with me caused some chaos. However, once I was seated the service was great! Diana took care of us and recommended the ceviche, which is a tuna lovers dream. Fresh and a large portion. The complimentary chips and bean dip were delicious as well, I wish there were more chips offered to enjoy it! One friend ordered the ceviche as an appetizer to share with the table. She found it too spicy but I thought it was delicious.
