Thin crust pizza at its finest (and tastiest). Look no further for pizza by the slice right in South Pasadena! Had already eaten lunch but since we were close to the area, we swung by Pie Life Pizza to try a slice of the pepperoni pizza ($4). The sauce tastes so fresh and the thin crust was just the right amount of crispy. After devouring the slice so quickly, opted for another slice of just the original cheese this time ($3.75). Still just as delicious. Pie Life is located right by a coffee shop. There are limited outdoor tables available right by the shop as well as a few shared tables set up in the parking lot amongst other tenants in the area. I think it was alright. I've got the lasagna pizza and build my own(peperoni, bacon, mushroom, basil, paramesan). I prefer the lasagna but I might try to add peperoni+mushroom to it cause I think it'll be even better. I thought the lasagna pizza was pretty unique so I would recommend it even without adding the peperoni. I wouldn't exactly say it taste like a lasagna but the ingredients were good imitation on it and stays as a pizza. As for the build my own, I feel like it could be better honestly. Considering how many ingredients I added, I almost felt like the ingredients weren't exactly evenly distributed or like some slices would all toppings and some wouldnt...which I find a bit disappointing. I think the crust could be a little better and ^ but I think the most disappointing was definitely the not evenly distributed toppings. I wouldn't mind coming back but hope to see it build better next time. For now, I would definitely still say I recommend Luggage room more as it is more unique and might be a little cheaper too(i know it's not the same size pizza) I might have to try luggage room again since I haven't had it since covid hit and if pie life is better then I'll come back and update this. Great spot for NY style pizza that's simple and to the point. Pie life Pizza is not for me but is still very good pizza for price, great selection, clean taste and great customer service. This place is 1.2 miles from my apartment, which is just about the farthest south I'll walk in Pasadena. I'm making my way through the restaurants in my new city, street by street, and this is the first pizza place I had tried since moving to Pasadena so I was excited. The great reviews made me even more excited to try it. I brought my roommate, who also enjoys a good slice of pizza, and she was equally as excited to try it (but less excited to walk there and back). We both eyed the slice of the day, which is pepperoni burrata on Mondays. Unfortunately there was only one left, but my roommate let me take it. So we each ordered a slice of pizza, then added breadsticks and marinara sauce. I can't remember if they had garlic knots and if we tried to order them, but if so, they were out of those too. We also bought a cookie. We then sat at a big, round table outside, which may have belonged to the coffee place next door. The tables looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while, which usually would be a minor nuisance, but we are going through a pandemic and all... The wait was a bit long for reheating two slices of pizza. Our breadsticks came out later so it wasn't due to that. I can't remember exactly how long it took, though. The pizza was pretty disappointing. I've had New York-style pizza before, many times and in many cities, and I am bummed to report that this is the worst I've tried. The crust was pretty bland, and I didn't love the toppings or the sauce. To add insult to injury, the breadsticks were incredibly over-seasoned with whatever seasoning they use, whether it's Italian seasoning or oregano or whatever, to the point that it was actually inedible and we gave over half of it to someone who was hungry (rather than just throw it out). Not even the marinara sauce could save it. The cookie was good, but I 100% would not return to a pizza place for a cookie. I wish I could write a more positive review for this place, especially during these times, but I wouldn't be doing anyone any good if I wasn't being honest. I didn't give it less stars because the employees seemed nice, and even mediocre pizza is still pizza (and I love pizza). read more

Not sure how anyone who has ever eaten pizza in New York City can call this NY-style pizza, apart from the fact that it's on the thinner side and they sell pizza by the slice. As others have noted, the crust is not the best. Still, if you are in the area and want some okay pizza it's not a terrible choice, but in my opinion it's just not fair to call it NY pizza when it won't live up to expectations at all. I'm not trying to sound like a pizza snob, I just think this it's own thing - it's a thiner sliced pizza with more of a cracker-type-bread crust. The flavors of the white pie were nice and mild but you didn't get a nice stretchy, gooey, melty cheese really, and although the pepperoni and jalapeño was more flavorful due to the meat it wasn't something that would blow you away. Definitely normal pizza but kind of reminiscent of a pie I would get at Chuck E. Cheese as a kid? Not the best compliment I could give, frankly... Also, Covid-times service was mediocre. For the price of this pie, if I'm in the area, I'd go to the Luggage Room Pizzeria for a far superior slice. read more

This is the real deal holy field..... Like I got a couple spots here in LA that I hold close to my heart but we are talking about Pasadena now! 5 stars! This place rocks! Great delicious NYC style pizza! It appears its an out door only spot, meaning you order from outside the window and they take your order and hand it to you through the window when its ready. There are chairs and tables to eat right outside and and along the front of the place. There is also parking available right in front as well. Place looks brand new and clean. Wow. I'm from NYC, born and bred, so you know I know pizza. South Pasadena lost Nonna's a couple years back when the East Coast family retired. Mammas Brick Oven closed their East Pasadena branch and are moving their South Pasadena Branch apparently. So, I finally went to try Pie Life. It's located in a small "strip mall" (wouldn't call it a strip mall as much as a parking lot on an industrial street), and they have a tiny parking lot. They share the tiny parking lot space with a coffee shop and I think one other business. It's literally a hole in the wall - you order from a dutch door into a small pizza kitchen. But who cares, when the pizza is fantastic? And... the pizza IS fantastic! I order my pies crispy/well done. I love me a crispy crust. I got a simple cheese pie to try their quality for the first time. And? It was excellent. Truly excellent. I want to try their lasagna pizza next. In fact, your fare better with DiGiorno. There was zero flavor, and the crust was utterly bland. I normally eat every bite of my crust, and I left his one. Ordered delivery and wanted to try a different pizza spot in Pasadena and saw the yelp reviews and took a shot. Pizza came on time and overall lived up to its billing. Pretty straight forward thin crust slices which were decently sized. Overall, not above most other spots I've been to ( Mama's birck oven for example)...but pretty similar. The pie i really enjoyed was the sicilian...this was ordered by someone else in our group and the slices were great! Cheesy, saucy and a thicker crust...highly enjoyable. I usually really hate to leave a poor review for any restaurants because I understand how much blood, sweat, and tears go into feeding people. After seeing so many positive reviews for Pie Life, I couldn't resist trying it out. Simply put, I should've saved $20 and just went to Costco and gotten a pizza. Costco might not be the best pizza, but in my book it ranks higher than any chain pizzeria in terms of price, taste satisfaction, and consitency (which albiet this is my first time trying Pie Life, I can't comment on consistency which is why it's getting 2 stars instead of 1). The pizza I had from Pie Life ( warehouse pizza - pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and olives ) was bland and salty. The sauce was absolutely nowhere to be found. None of the toppings stood out; they all just kind of globbed together into a chewy nothingness. I spent a few months out in NY for work and was ordering from as many random pizza spots on seamless as I could, and I never had anything near as bad as the pizza I had from Pie Life today. Mind you, this pizza cost $32.50 ($45 after delivery fees and tip). If this were a $12-15 pizza, I would have no complaints. I would have gone in with low expectations, but the fact that this is, again, a $32.50 pizza, this is absolute highway robbery and the owners should be ashamed for putting out something so terrible and trying to claim "NY style". read more

Overall- 8.3 Crust- 8.7 (oven not hot enough to char the bottom, otherwise very good, NY style and texture) Sauce- 7.8 Cheese- 7.8 (like more oil.....full fat.....like NY slice, but nothing wrong here. Pretty good. ) Service- 8.0 (I'm reviewing based on MY taste and opinions. This is subjective! I'm so disappointed in Pielifepizza. We gave it 3 last opportunities, however all have been a disgusting disappointment. We were regulars for quite a few years. The pizza was always fresh smelling and tasting. We absolutely loved the PB&J pizza. However every single visit as of recently tastes and looks like the pizza is frozen and heated up. It no longer looks fresh, it no longer tastes fresh, and it no longer smells fresh. My house used to smell like pepperoni and jalapeños. Not anymore. I'm so disappointed and sad. It has gone down hill over the years. And I'm done wasting $60-$70 on a place that taste like crap. I'm very sad to report we will no longer be pie life customers. Do better Pie Life! read more

My wife and I's first time eating here. She's pregnant and was craving New York style pizza. She googled "Top rated NY pizza" and Pie Life came up. First I'll say this place is definitely 'in the cut', and that's nice cause there's parking available. The customer service was phenomenal! The staff was very kind. The gentleman who took our order brought out our pizza to us on the deck which was a surprise cause we were expecting them to call us to the window, super kind gesture. My wife and I each got 2 slices and a beverage combo, me getting the pep and mushroom slices and the wife got the vegi and chz slice. We definitely enjoyed our food and will return sooner than later. I've been craving pizza but sadly Tony's doesn't open till 4. Sooooo gave this place a shot. Someone mentioned that it was impossible to social distance and that the employees weren't wearing masks. Because this place is located on an elevated walkway with two staircases, it really is impossible to socially distance. The tables and chairs on the walkway should be removed. they have a tent in the back corner of the parking lot where people should eat if they want to (but c'mon y'all just take it home). (arlington garden also just around the corner...) They should set up a kiosk or start a line in the parking lot so there aren't multiple people on the walkway at once. Anyways I got three slices, a meaty, margerita, and a sicilian. The first two had very thin dough on the bottom. A little bit crispy and the pizza sauce had a slight hint of heat to it and the nice sweetness. The margarita had amazing flavor. It was pretty juicy and moist and I could taste lots of garlic. The cheese on the margarita was a little rubbery for some reason but sill was good. Can't decide if I like this better or Tony's. Meaty was very... meaty for lack of a better word and the sausages tasted like they had onion in it. Very good. A little salty but goes perfectly with the crust. The sicilian was alright. It reminded me of those pizza squares I used to get at lunch in highschool but fancier. It was thick, soft and slightly chewy. Not bad. Definitely would come back. If I was rating based off the food alone, It'd be 5 stars but they need to do something about the ordering process. I was trapped between some old dudes without masks on and a group of people... Tucked away in a small lot, this local gem offers slices and full pies, all made with quality ingredients. You'll know when you taste the tomato sauce. It's simple and delicate. You might not even be used to it. I know I wasn't. I was more familiar with sweeter and robust sauce but seriously, this is better. The nuance in quality is a sign of craft. You can thank the owner Joe for that. He's the real deal, real down to Earth and really knows his pizza (I believe he's even from NY, so triple real deal). There's daily specials, like pepperoni and burrata (my favorite special), pbj (pepperoni bacon jalapeno), and lasagna. The pepperoni here is really something. I would suggest getting plain pepperoni (my go to every time) to see for yourself. My second go to is plain cheese. If you want to taste that tomato sauce, go for the plain cheese. The rest of the menu is pretty standard. Marguerita, meat lover, white sauce, etc. You won't find anything fancy here, and I mean that in a good way. Trust me, when you really REALLY crave pizza, you only want something simple and familiar but well executed. Pie Life is all about that. As for the crust, there's a nice balance between chewy and crunchy. I always ask for well done because I like it crispy. You order from a pick window and can choose to dine in on their wooden benches. If you're a pizza aficionado, you'll appreciate this place. If not, you'll still love it. Was in the neighborhood and was looking for a quick slice of za with my picky NY mother and needed to find a solid option that she wouldn't complain about lol so used my Yelp super powers to find Pie Life Pizza. It is as no frills as you can get, literally a hole in the wall, a window on the upper level in a car park next to a coffee spot. But the pizza speaks volumes. Tasty, crispy crust, sauce was delicious and the right amount of sauciness as was the cheese. I'm very confused by the great reviews. I love the concept of NY slices and was very excited to try this place. It's also literally a hole in the wall, but I think that adds to the cool factor and the outside seating is nice. Unfortunately, the pizza just falls well short. The slices were a little crispy and not quite foldable like a standard NY slice, but the crust was good. The sauce and cheese however were not good and was like eating very bad reheated pizza. The margarita was not traditional margarita, but that's ok. The meaty slice ha some tasty sausage on it, but only had 2 pepperonis.
