I have been following PHX Lechon Roasters for a few years on IG, but i had yet to catch them out on the street. That record ended the other month at the Mesa Night Market and it was better than I expected! Follow their IG account to get where they'll be located and chop times. And get there at least 30 minutes before chop to get in line. Otherwise you'll be standing in line with 100+ people waiting for delicious spit roasted porky goodness. Get a plate for there and take a lb or two home! Tip... Eat the skin right then and there. After it's cold, it's chewy imo. Or crisp it back up in an air fry when you get home. The Achara, Sawsawan, and Liver Sauce put the pork over the top! Looking forward to getting more porky goodness here soon! read more

I saw this pop-up (I'm ass advertised on the Arizona Asians Facebook group, so my fiancé and I went there for lunch on the Fourth of July. They were set up in the parking lot of the Wandering Tortoise. We just moved from Albuquerque recently. We didn't have much of Filipino food there. So I was thrilled to be able to have some!! The pork skewers were delicious. It's a little hard to eat but so good. I liked their Mac salad as well. We organized a family gathering in Phoenix in early December, with folks from different parts of the U.S., most of whom had never had Filipino food. We hired Phx Lechon Roasters to cater the event, with the full Kamayan feast for 17. It was fantastic - delicious, beautifully cooked and presented roast pig/lechon, with pancit, lumpia, sisig, rice, and other dishes that wowed everyone. Highly recommended, and a great time. Wow, lechon baboy just like I remember it from the lechonan (pig roasteries) places back in Manila! The pork is succulent, with crispy skin, and came with rice, mac salad, atchara (pickled shredded green papaya) and the requisite sawsawan (sauces or dips). I followed their schedule and location changes through their facebook page and it's a really good idea to come early - I did, and there was already a line; and at the rate the lechon orders were being dispensed, they must have sold out pretty early too. read more

I have been following them for a long time and I was able to try it for the first time today in Phoenix, they set up a tent by rewined beer and wine. Their post showed a whole roasted pig in Instagram that looked very crispy and moist. Sad to say I was not impressed, maybe it was a bad day but the lechon was dry, no flavor and worse of all the skin was already soo soggy.. I also ordered the ube pandesal and it was dry. The cheese was ok but for $12 for a half dozen??? $2 per pandesal should blow my mind with freshness and flavor but it didnt... I hope its not always like this. PS. This is coming from a Filipino who grew up in the Philippines. On a positive note, their customer service is great! Hope to try them again in a better day... read more

Long overdue review for a meal I had back in April. I had 2 Filipino friends visiting from out of town so I decided to order a Kamayan meal for us since, well, I've never had one before. It was a great decision! Our meal (I think the dishes change from time to time so better to check with the business) that feeds 4 people features lechon kawali (deep fried pork belly), lechon manok (whole chicken), pancit (stir fried noodles), and lumpia (fried egg rolls). It also comes with rice, Achara (Filipino green papaya relish), brown sauce (mang tomas), sweet and sour sauce, and a vinegary soy sauce. Banana leafs are included too so we could make our own spread at home. The pick up location is in Mesa which was over 25 minutes away from my home. The packaging was great, the fried items were not sealed so they would not steam and become soggy. When we started eating almost an hour later the pork belly and egg rolls were still extremely crispy - those were my favorite two items although I enjoyed everything we got. The chicken which was stuffed with lemongrass, green onions, bay leaves, and garlic was very flavorful. The rice was made stickier than normal so it was easy to pick up and eat with hands which is the traditional way to eat! We also got pandesal filled with ube jam and cheese which we didn't really have room for after the meal but they were great the next day too. I would definitely recommend trying the Kamayan from Phx Lechon Roaster! Great food, value, and over all a lot of fun! read more

Out in AZ with our large family, and meeting a few other family members. I had the idea to look for a pig roast for the group, but didn't have the resources or skills to cook one myself. From Google, I landed on this company. Brian was EXTREMELY responsive, and on pretty short notice of mike 3 days, he was able to prepare and organize a delivery to us in Scottsdale. We ordered a whole pig (about 35lbs) and 2 of the rotisserie chickens, that came with sauces also. The presentation and cook temperature was excellent. From the crispy skin, to the perfectly cooked pork, we did a pretty serious job carving up, pulling and stuffing our faces. Definitely recommend this for a group - we had 19 adults and a couple kids. Very much recommend the Lechon Kawali and Sisig dish! We bought the Kamayan dinner for 4 but we eat a lot so we felt it wasn't enough for us. It's a good experience if you want a traditional Filipino feast platter. Thank goodness we did add the Sisig and half a dozen ube pandesal. Must try ofcourse! My family and I decided to stay in town this Thanksgiving and wanted to celebrate our recent wins with a whole roast pig. We usually go for the chinese style roast pig, but those were pricey and small. I found Phx Lechon Roasters on Yelp, and without ever tasting it first, decided to take a chance and order a whole 32lb charcoal roast pig/lechon from Brian. All my family has to say is: FANTASTIC. Service: Brian is SO kind, attentive, and prompt. I asked if he could somehow chop the roast pig up but assemble it back to its whole form. Originally he said it was impossible. But right before our pickup date, I called to confirm and he let me know he was thinking about it since I asked and he found a way. Sure enough, it was assembled back PERFECTLY! Pickup was a breeze as well. Taste: Skin was CRISPY. Meat was tender and juicy. Just how my family likes it. Not overly salted whatsoever. Dipping sauces were also included. Our friends and family are STILL raving about it (and trust me, they're picky)! I do have to warn everyone... it was torturous bringing the steaming, fragrant pig home in the car without having a bite! OVERALL, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! read more

On December 3, 2022, PHX Lichen roasters catered a winter festival for us at Mountain View Estates. It was a cold and rainy Saturday but I must brag on Brian and Josh. Not only did they arrive on time but the meal was a 5 star success. The presentation, skill of preparing the meal and their genuine concern for having the meal go off with out hitch was evident for everyone to see. We had over 100 attendees and the people who went back for notably seconds but thirds is proof of how well the food was prepared. Disappointed with the food I received. Saw them at a festival but didn't get to try so when I saw them again the following week, I beelined to their tent. After waiting in line for quite some time, I ordered a combo plate. The description was good and it cost me $17, so I thought it would be pretty substantial. Nope. The portion was small and flavors were mediocre. Pork was bland and had no flavor, mac salad was not pleasant, rice was interesting, and the only sauce was the brown vinegar based one in the picture but nothing matched with it. Let's just say it's probably not a good idea to try a food place for the first time at a festival. We have been oogling PHX Lechon Roasters forever and FINALLY got the opportunity to try them at the Asian Night Market that recently took place in Mesa. They were the first line we jumped in and we ended up waiting in it for close to an hour only to receive food that's sadly just did not live up to the hype. It was so sad.... It seemed overcooked and was very bland. Nothing I would ever wait in line for an hour again. But, that said, we're gonna chalk this one up to the festival experience and keep this one on our list for the future. In COVID-19 culture, this is the first time I was turned on to food from an Instagram post. With no food truck, Joe and Phx Lechon Roasters advertised the chance to get a full Kamayan dinner by pick up at their Local Arizona location in Mesa. Pickups are Saturdays only right now. The dinner could easily feed three or four people and costs $50. And I am addicted. Think of a time when you've smelled something and it transported you back in time to a favorite dish your mom made you. My first bite into the lumpia brought me back to being a kid again and eating my mom's cooking. The rice was perfect. The chicken was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The Ube was fantastic. Everything was so good I ate way too much. It's also the little thoughtful things that make me so appreciate supporting a local business. Not only is the food nostalgic, but he included huge banana leaves with the order to use as a tablecloth; he wrote my name and a quick note on the paper bag with the sauces; he typed out a full explanation of the menu about the food and suggestions on how to eat it traditionally and stapled it to the bag. I felt like I was getting an experience more than just a meal. This isn't just good Filipino food, this is great food in general. If you've never had traditional Filipino food, don't try anything else until you try Phx Lechon Roasters. You'll be hooked. I am. Thank you for this kamayan feast! I brought it to my parents to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They were bummed out to not have a big celebration, but your cooking brought big smiles to their faces. We agreed that the manok was just a delicious as the last time we ordered and those adobo ribs were the best we've ever had! I ordered the Kamayan package online and it was delicious. I first heard of PHX Lechon Roasters from Instagram and I'm so glad I did. Their kamayan package was very reasonably priced and contained a lot of food. It is a set menu and changes every week so it's not like every other restaurant. We ordered the Kamayan feast this past Saturday for my birthday and were beyond satisfied! Amazing, authentic, tasty Filipino food, just like my grandma makes! Our FAVE is the lechon kawali! Wow! Amazing, delicious, seasoned to perfection.... there are just not enough words to describe how much talent comes through this food! I'm a pork belly snob, and this is the best pork belly I've had in my life! The pickled veg on the side is the perfect tang and crisp to cut through the succulent pork belly. On an extended stay in AZ, I attended the Asian Moon festival in Chandler, AZ Oct. 2 2021. I waited in the hot Arizona sun for a 1/2 hr at the PHX Lechon Roasters tent, waiting for what I thought was going to be a "taste of Home"(Hawaii-very Filipino influenced) First of all, I noticed as I was waiting in line, that there were no herbs stuffed in either or orifice of the pig( mouth or behind). It's usually lemongrass and other herbs that WILL be visible. Also, there wasn't the usual wonderful aroma of a roasting pig (the wind wasn't blowing). When I reached the tent to order, I was aghast that the plate lunch was $16.50!! This was my BiGGEST beef( no pun intended) It consisted of a very small amount of lechon, which was gray and soggy in appearance, jasmine rice??!! What?! Lol( not authentic at all), a pickled veggie(ok-maybe), and a mayonnaise macaroni salad made with pineapple!!! that I decided to pass on. It also came with one of the two typical sauces to dip the lechon in, Manok, which was the best thing on the plate. I longed so much for the most favorite second typical condiment of soy sauce & vinegar . It cuts the fat and adds tremendous flavor. -The pork was flavorless, the skin was barely crisp, and it was little gamy, usually indicative of a pig almost going bad or one being previously frozen. It was also on the verge of being cold. This was suppose to be the star of the show and I wanted it to be!!! You really want to see a line? 1. Up your flavor game! Herbs!!!!! Especially lemon grass & garlic 2. Get THE freshest suckling pig you can buy. A day old is not acceptable . 3. Use a blowtorch to crisp the skin even more, and add flavor. 4. No jasmine rice. It's not authentic of Filipino cuisine. Use short grain steamed white rice( it's cheaper and tastes better for this occasion) 5. Down play your mac salad. Trust me. Omit the pineapple. The sides should play second fiddle to the star, but accentuate the pork with a mild (umami) flavor. NO sweet! 6. Add a simple concoction of soy sauce and vinegar as a dipping sauce (authentic & typical) for the pork, along with the manok. 7. Last but not least, lower your price! You are gouging customers who have no clue, & those that do. I'm a published Foodie. I just miss the authentic culinary delights from the Philippines and got a very less than experience :/ #doitright read more

Our daughter spent a summer in the Philippines during college and came home continuously craving Filipino food. We often visited the Hey Joe food truck to satisfy her. Fast-forward and our friends are now doing weekly meals to go. We ordered two meal, plus some ube rolls, and took them to our daughter and her boyfriend. We had a four-person socially distanced Filipino feast. She was SOO happy. The pork belly was divine, the chicken moist and smoky, and those ube rolls with the jam and cheese inside? More please.
