In the food court of Mekong Plaza, Wholly Grill serves Philippine food with a good variety. Today I ordered doing na bangus with rice and macaroni salad. Also known as milkfish, it holds an amazing taste. In the past I enjoyed their pancit. A special offered today was cucumber / calamansit juice. I grow calaminsit trees at home so it was great to have someone other than me making the juice. It was great with cucumber added. The lady helping me and cooking was super friendly and poised. Wholly Grill is located in the food court at Mekong Plaza in the Mesa Asian District. They offer up inexpensive Filipino-style in a casual setting. I have been by here many times to pick up food because I know a lot of Filipinos. Some dishes that you find here are Lechon Kawali, Pancit, Liempo, Lumpia and BBQ Chicken. Majority of the menu is combination plates and side times. I love that they have a menu on the wall with pictures. I live close by and stop by Mekong Plaza often. While walking round, I like stopping by Wholly Grill to take something home for dinner. The Lechon Kawali is really good and one of my favorite entrees. They also have Halo Halo here. Waited a long wait today for just the basics, skewers, adobo and lumpia. Took a very long time and we were the only customers. The adobo didn't have any vinegar sauce flavoring, instead it was like a thicker pork stew that tasted like oil. The skewers were overcooked and the macaroni salad tasted like pure sugar. Waited even longer for the lumpia to come out and they were burnt on the outside and raw pork inside. We told the girl in the front and she tried to say it's supposed to be "pink" which is clearly not true. Also saw the girl in the front eating with her fingers while handling food which is very unsanitary and disgusting. The older lady apologized and provided refund but this is after my kids ready took a bite of raw pork. Hoping nobody gets sick or food poisoning. Would not recommend eating here. We had to go around and around in the complex looking for the place but eventually realized it is one of the stalls inside the complex specifically the food court. It is made to order so there is a wait. It was just the right amount of food so we don't need to bring it to go. Pancit Bihon, and Pork Adobo. Staple filipino foods and 2 of my favorites. The Panic Bihon was fresh and good, but I felt it was lacking some traditional flavor. It also had spaghetti style noodles mixed with the vermicelli glass noodles, which throws me off, almost canton style. Living in the Philippines I am very picky about authentic filipino food. Pork Adobo, flavorful and comforting to my soul. I know they looked at me funny when I said No rice with it, but I just didn't have room from Bahn Mi' a few hours earlier. I know, sacrilege in filipino community not to eat without rice. Mekong Market is a favorite place for me, but it is a drive from Phoenix so I don't get here as often. I ate here for the first time today Wednesday April 18th 2024. This is Filipino food. I asked the counter lady what choices are pork with a skin on it. I really like pork skin soft or fried. She pointed out three choices and convince me to try the fried pork belly. It is fried chunks with crispy skin and tender inside. Comes with a sweet dipping sauce and also straight white vinegar, rice and pickled slivered vegetables. It cost $13. I liked it but not so much that I would order it again. My wife and I stopped by the Mekong Plaza this past Saturday night for a bite to eat. Our target was the Wholly Grill since I've had a craving for Filipino food and lumpia especially. I got the barbecued pork skewers with the Atchara as a side, the lumpia dish, and my wife got the barbecue chicken. Everything exceeded our expectations, and they catered to us as if we were family. Steven was behind the counter, he was very knowledgeable, helpful and took excellent care of our needs. The owner even came out to our table to chat with us and was such a wonderful lady. I've been coming to Wholly Grill since I moved to AZ almost 3 years ago. I get the same thing everytime - the lechon kawali and halo-halo since those I cannot and will not make at home. Both are consistently good and delicious. I've tried other Filipino restaurants in the valley and they have the best halo-halo by far. I've also brought friends and family over that ordered other dishes and they enjoyed it as well! I will keep coming back and recommending to everyone. Food may take a while because it's prepared on the spot! Only con here is their operating hours are spotty and they don't update online. I am so impressed with this little Filipino restaurant. Every time I've placed a phone order or an order at the location, they're very accommodating and quick. I had a very terrible experience with another Filipino restaurant that was closer to my home and when I called this place to get a pick up order and I wouldn't be there for another 45 minutes, even though they said they had closed early, they said they would take the order and it would be ok that it would still take me a while to get there. I asked if they were sure and they said yes. That right there is customer service! They were not obligated to serve me as they had already closed for the day but they still did. If you want amazing Filipino food and good service, you have to go here! Lechon kawali is my favorite along with their dinuguan, fried banana, bbq pork skewers as well! I really wanted to like this place as there aren't a lot of Filipino restaurants in the area. I decided to come here for lunch and give it a try instead of the Mekong Plaza Restaurant next door which I frequent regularly. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the food I received and I think I was also overcharged. First I'll say that the gentleman at the front was very kind and respectful, that's probably the only positive thing I have to say. The food took quite awhile to prepare, at least half an hour for a place thats supposed to a place that's akin to preprepared cafeteria food. When it finally arrived the Kare Kare presentation just looked absolutely unappetizing to say respectfully. The color was very off and the taste reflected that. The sauce and meat(which there wasn't a lot of) was a luke warm temperature and the vegetables were mushy. The taste was just very bland, the only thing with any flavor was the shrimp paste side. I also ordered a small side of pancit that was just as bad if not worst. It consisted of two different noodles both tasting inconsistent and mushy, the chicken in it was also very dry. I'm guessing that both were microwaved. It tasted so bad I ended up just eating the bland meat in the Kare Kare and threw away the pancit noodles after trying a few bites. For both these dishes and for a can of sprite I was charged almost $19. If you're thinking about this place I would save your money and either go next door to the Mekong Restaurant or order a pizza. read more

The food is excellent, my rating is because of everything else... first, to be clear this is basically a food court situation in an Asian mall. The plates are styrofoam and the forks and spoons are plastic, this makes eating more difficult than it should be. The area was fairly clean but it's a good court with all the typical negatives. You order at the window and they bring you the food, so service isn't a big concern for them, but after walking back to the window to ask for additional soy sauce, I got a nasty look and then handed a small tub of it. Traveling through Phoenix area wanted some Filipino cuisine and saw the add for Wholly grail. Gave it a shot and the experience was less than stellar. It is in a food court and specializes in made from scratch Filipino food. The 4 of us tried a few dishes to pass around and the food was either flavorless or was cold. We were the only ones there and it took about 15 to get the food. Maybe come back on the weekends for lechon but other than that will try the next one. read more

I haven't tried the food here yet, but the halo halo is indeed a new favorite of mine. When I ever do try the food, expect an updated review! I believe it ran about $5 a drink but the drink is pretty large, it has mango, various jellies, banana, coconut, flan at the bottom and then it's covered in shaved ice, milk and condensed milk and topped of with a large scoop of sweet ube (purple yam) ice cream. It's pretty large actually, we had just finished lunch and it was okay for 3 people to share as a dessert. Service was quite good, friendly people and I don't find the prices to be too high. I definitely will be back for more halo halo and I hope to try their other dishes! By the way, it's not a stand alone restaurant, it's inside of the Mekong Plaza and stands food court style. read more

I came here only to eat Halo Halo. It met my expectations! Very good, inexpensive Halo Halo for $5. It is not the typical authentic Halo Halo I've had in the past (because they put cereal on the top of this one) but it was still very good. Also, I didn't notice flan in mine (or maybe I devoured it too quick to notice lol). Overall it's a nice addition to Mekong plaza and one of the few Filipino restaurants in Arizona. Although the lady at the counter was very sweet and nice, the service and food on the other hand was a complete disappointment. First of all this is one Filipino food that is very bland. The skewers that is suppose to be tasty because of its marinate you can't taste any seasons or flavor because they burned it. The pancit was awful! It has a spoiled smell to it and when we took a bite it was bland and the noodles tasted old. The worst part is the wait. They are the slowest at preparing the food! As if we have till tomorrow to wait for the food. The people cooking the food may have been the owners and the guy was not friendly at all..we ordered some food to go and they forgot the pancit and when I told them about it they said they did not charge me so I paid and waited another extra 15 minutes after waiting for the other food 40 minutes prior. Quick review on something simple they have that I always wanted to get but haven't get a chance and that's their lechon. Super flavorful and the the meat was moist while the skin was nice and crispy. Cant get any better lechon than that. For those who dont know what lechon is, its deep fried pork in a pan or wok. On top of that I got chicken chicharon which omg was crazy good with nice flavor to it. Not salty nor greasy. These are pretty much I can get since I'm back on keto. So anyone doing the same.
