Service was good with taking my order and quick turnaround. Ordered a small bowl. Busy Friday night
Just moved to Anchorage and couldn't wait to find my favorite pho in town. Phonatik is such a cute name, we had to stop in here for lunch. Interior is modest, simple, and felt clean enough. Our table had hoisin sauce, sriracha and a pot of chili oil. There was oil on the underside of the pot of chili oil though, which was a cleanliness issue. Our family got the all shrimp fresh rolls, a seafood pho, a mixed beef pho and a small kid size chicken pho. We also tried the hazy IPA beers on tap. Notes on the food: the rolls were okay. The peanut sauce was a touch too thick and lacked dimension in flavor. Ingredients inside the rolls were fresh but would've been improved with a little mint, basil, or other fresh herb. Seafood pho was decent, but I longed for a fish ball, fish cake, or other item besides the imitation krab. I picked out the squid because it was too chewy. Our server was cheerful and pleasant, and parking was super easy just outside the front door. Might be back if in the area but I think will continue my pho search elsewhere next time that pho craving hits.
A coworker recommended this place to me. The photos on Yelp made it look like a place I needed to try and the reviews made it sound like this may become a staple each time I come to work. The pho was good but I liked the broths at other pho restaurants around Anchorage. I tried my own combo of meatball, flank, and brisket. When I reheated my leftovers the next day the broth had a better beefy taste. It may have just needed more time to simmer with the meat juices. A medium bowl was also a little more pricey than other places around town that have tastier broths but it is still large enough for leftovers to go home with. The beef stew though-- *chef kiss*. This Mi Bo Kho-similar dish is pretty good. The beef hunks shred easily to incorporate every bite with some tender roast, and the bean sprouts and cilantro gave it a crunchy and fresh flavor. The broth/soup base is hearty and will warm you up any day of the week. The carrots were large and I could easily slice them with my chopsticks to eat them in bite-sized pieces. The rice noodles were a nice touch as I hadn't had a stew like that before. It is missing the star anise, cinnamon, and cloves that make Mi Bo Kho so delicious, but I liked their version of Vietnamese beef stew. I liked the ample amount of noodles in the pork and shrimp spring rolls (fresh rolls). The peanut sauce served on the side was nice and peanutty-- not runny nor so thick you could eat it with a fork. I want to come back and try more of the different spring rolls they have as there was about 6 or more choices on the menu for different combinations. The Thai tea was standard. Overall I would come back for the beef stew and springs rolls and go elsewhere for the pho.
My son had recommended this restaurant to me and my wife. There are excellent reasons why. My wife ordered the Pho with assorted meat. It's one of the best Pho(s) we've had. The oxtail in that soup was beautifully intact, yet once touched, it fell off the bone tender. The broth is rich and beefy. The grilled pork with rice, nicely charred and delicious. Server was charming, gracious and friendly. Place is spacious with nice painted murals on the walls. Great place!
Well, I haven't had their pho in over a year now, since the last time I ordered and it was a disaster. The challenge is, they do make good pho when they do it right. I decided to give them another chance as it was cold and I wanted a good soup. I called up and ordered, i asked if they had the bean sprouts since last time, they did not and they did not inform me only to find out one of the biggest parts of the pho experience was not included. Not once, but twice this has happened. I asked if they had the Thai basil, onions etc. They said yes they have everything. Now comes the irritating part, I asked for them to make sure they include some of the chili crisp oil that is a condiment on their tables and they have the nerve to want to charge $1.00 for it.... Wait what, that is like ordering French fries at McDonald's and them wanting to charge you for the ketchup packets. I then indicated I would like them to waive that fee along with my logic. They don't charge the dine in customers for the condiments at the table. they refused even when I said I would cancel my order. There was no logic or reason, and even though i like their pho, it is principal. I would eat in, but ever time I have been there, i have frozen. they don't like to pay for heat either. It is very unpleasant to dine there. Their loss is Kami Ramens game, because I promptly placed an order with Kami Ramens, and it didn't take 45 minutes to wait on like it does at phonatik, another thing i never understood since broth should be premade and the rest doesn't take that long to add and cook. Kami was ready within minutes and they have it down to a science including really nice to go containers for their soup that doesn't melt from the cash register to your car like phonatiks does. No more chances for this place, sorry.
Love this place! Great food! Authentic Vietnamese food. Good servers, very friendly, We had the #7 pho - choose 3 types of protein. Had oxtail, tendon and brisket. Very impressed with how tender the oxtail was. All meat intact on the bone but it was so tender. Really good! Our other plate was grilled pork rice. It was so good. Generous serving of grilled pork which was so flavorful. Nice cute restaurant. Very clean and noticed fast turnover of tables. Lots of customers dining on a Tuesday lunch. Will definitely eat at this place again when I am in Anchorage.
First time here at Phonatik, and i had specifically avoided it, as I once had Pho, and likened it to dirty dishes water, with vegetables and noodles floating in it. Not something i wanted to repeat, but he wanted to go here, and i saw Banh Mi on the menu, which I've wanted to try for a long while, after seeing one on TV. It was very busy, being lunchtime. I ordered the Chicken Banh Mi, with an upgrade of a yolky fried egg, and wasabi aioli. He got the Phonatik Combo, their best selling dish apparently. It made me scrunch up my face with horror actually, knowing there was tendons and tripe in it, but he likes Pho, so there you go. Service was pretty fast for how busy they were. My sandwich came with some crispy shrimp cracker things. I gave them to hubs, as the sandwich was huge. He was showing me the tripe and the tendon in his Pho, it didn't take away my appetite however. This Banh Mi!! OMG why has it taken me so long to try one? It was superb. The chicken had some type of a coating, maybe teriyaki, or BBQ, and they had julienned the strips, so they were like chicken matchsticks, yet had remained juicy, moist and flavorful. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, and the yolk was runny as promised. Even the Wasabi Aioli was better than expected, because if it says Wasabi, i want Wasabi. I ant to feel my nostril burn, and fear that the hairs will singe. It was amazing, and very filling. He loved his Pho too, and of course he wanted to try my Banh Mi, and said he thought he might have ordered one, had he known how good they were. Excellent, delicious, great service. We'll be back
Chilly evening which means a hot soup, in this case Pho, as this is filling and warms you up on a cold day. I can remember when they first opened, and showed a lot of promise, now fast forward, they have matured into the place to go for Pho. The Pho itself has strong yet very balanced depth of flavor, I had the combo which had meatballs, tendon, tripe, brisket, flank, and steak. Broth piping hot, and adding the fresh basil and bean sprouts with just a squeeze of the lime just puts this over the top. Very pleased, and definitely too 2 Pho in Alaska, and the great service just brings everything together.
Food was great and just what I needed on a cold day. Staff thoroughly explained the menu when asked.
I ordered online I was told 15-30 minutes got to the store an hour later and ended up waiting another 30 minutes is crazy without an explanation or apologies as to why it took forever. Unless you want your time wasted I don't recommend people to go here.
Britain saved the day and zoomed in like the Flash. I noticed they were running on vapors staff-wise, so as we parked ourselves, I handed Britain our culinary wish list, making everything run like clockwork. The steak pho was ridiculously good and we didn't have to sit around twiddling our thumbs. I would've given them a full five stars, but there were a gazillion tables screaming for a serious scrubbing. Time to hire a busboy, pronto!
Service is very slow. Got in and it took 1 hour for the main dish to be served. It does have a sign on the counter stating short staffed and ask for patience. Service is slow and didn't even serve chapstick when the food is presented. If the food is good then no issue with waiting. We have number pho #1 and the noodle is under cooked. It is hard. For me I didn't finish the large bowl which I always finish. I won't come back again though.
Got the choose your own adventure pho with oxtail, chicken and flank. Broth was delicious and they brought out little packets of sauces to add, which was great! Also loved the traditional side of toppings - especially the bean sprouts. The oxtail was cooked well, but the chicken was kind of weird - white slabs of it with no fat which could have def been better. All and all, a pretty solid pho spot. read more

It's all about the broth! Phonatik is by far the best Pho restaurant in anchorage. We ordered the pork fried egg rolls cooked to a golden brown perfection. However, the fish sauce was too fishy and I opted for the siracha sauce that was on the table instead. The combination Pho was packed with strips of beef with generous portion of other meats. The meatballs were tender and the tripes (I think) were properly cleaned and prepared. Again, the broth was well seasoned not too salty like other Pho places in the area. The garnish were fresh and just enough for two bowls. I do have to say that the restaurant's name "Phonatik" kinda project an Americanized pho, but you would be surprised. This is my new "go to" place for pho and they will see me more often this cold winter. oh yeah, did I mention they also have great service? Good food and great service equals my support for this local gem. read more

PHOnatik quickly became a staple in our restaurant list. We've been here about 6 times in the 3 months we've lived here and haven't had a bad experience. The pho is really good and you have the option to build your own bowl with the #7. Don't stop at the pho. There are plenty of other dishes to try. Beef stew, ribeye stir fry, hungry man, and banh mi are all great option. Another good couples option is a large pho your way with brisket and flank with the ox tail on the side (they'll put it in a small bowl of broth). And if you need to have a little more food for the two of you get a banh mi (try dunking it in the broth). (8th or so visit) First time we've been here for dinner. The wait time to get your food is probably double, about 45min. I don't understand why it took so long. read more

My son & girlfriend eats here a lot and I can really see why. Pho was really good. The taste of the soup base was delish, it wasn't oily like other Pho establishments. Not sure about the price, but kinda pricey for the amount/ size of the bowl. I also ordered the Salmon Roll/ smoked salmon. I could barely taste the smoked salmon, I wished it was more than just a small spread, the dipping sauce over powered the taste. We also ordered the Crab Wonton but ended up not getting it. Our server only realized it when she gave us our check. She said " we can make it To Go but you guys have to wait for it". We was ready to go and was just waiting on our check. She checked up on us just once.., they weren't busy, they were about 5 empty tables. That's the reason for the 3 sta read more

One of my favorite foods is Pho... I could seriously eat it daily. This is the best place in anchorage, hands down. I've been to Vietnam and obviously nothing compares, however this place is good for where it's at. Highly recommend this establishment, servers are pleasant and professionals and the place is well kept! read more

This place is super modern! Most pho restaurants have more of a one-size-fits-all traditional look (the interior of most pho restaurants are clones of one another), but this restaurant is very well designed. I had a good feeling about this place as soon as I walked in. As for the food, the reindeer wontons are absolutely amazing. The reindeer meat really adds a unique kick to the wonton. I have never had anything like it. Unfortunately, I do have to mention that the pho is about average in terms of flavor. Nothing too special here. They are a bit frugal with their noodles and toppings and the beef broth is not anything special (I am a fan of their chicken broth, however). I will be returning soon! read more

Quality of food is still really good! But service has been SLOW recently. We're frequent customers and they seat you quickly but it takes a while for your server to come by to take your order and it takes a LONG time to get your food. Ordered ONE fried egg roll and it took around 15 mins to get to our table. Took 10 mins from then to get our soup. It also took a while to pay when we were done because they only have one iPad/register and there were other servers trying to cash their customers out and had a line of people trying to pay for their to go orders... maybe invest in a additional iPad/register? Just not happy with how the food and service is so slow. read more

Dear Yelp Friends, Clearly, I have missed this place on my feed. And for that, I greatly apologize. But for real, WHY AM I JUST FINDING THIS PLACE NOW?!!! One of my mainly, obtainable, resolutions was to try some new spots around Anchorage since I missed half of the year. This was top on my list based on friend suggestion. First of the year priorities included a visit to Phonatik, and let me say it was PHO-nomenal .. see what I did there. Their restaurant had a super urban feel to it. Seemed like the perfect chill spot to kick back, unwind and have a good time ... with some super hip music to sing along to ... and a mini bar stocked with wine, for the win. Service by Neon was amazing! He was super attentive, and knew just when to step in to check up on us. Unlike other naggy waiters who like to ask every two minutes if we need something, or ask after our first bite if our food is good. Ain't no one got time to be bothered like that. Started off the new year by trying something new, their full size CaliPHOnia rolls without avocado. Let me tell you, every bite was pretty perfect, I nearly did not want to share. Dipped in Hoisin sauce, another new try of the year, it was something I will be going back for. I then ordered their Meatball Pho. Does anyone else understand my frustration with places that have a meatball pho that contains like three meatballs and then some other random slices of meat. Anyone else? Fine, maybe it is just me. But I'm thankful that there is finally a place that appreciates and highlights meatballs in their pho! Cost wise was key. Their 3 full size CaliPHOnia rolls (split in half-zies) seemed a bit pricey. But after seeing their size, and how tasty these were, they were well worth every penny of that $12. Their pho bowls were also well worth it. The perfect portion size starts at $7, medium at $10, and $13 for a large. All in all my total for a PHO-filling (whoops, I did it again) meal = $20!!! Can someone say score?! PHO ( .. now I am really done)! read more

First time at this pho restaurant and it was dank On the left is a LARGE #2 pho rare beef and MEDIUM #4 beef stew on right. I got an avocado smoothie which was nice and creamy but the lychee smoothie was probably the best thing we got! Plus they open later than most Pho restaurant very fast service for a Friday night read more

This was my second time here. I don't remember it being this good from the first time I went about 3 years ago. I think they may have just opened then or maybe they have new owners. Anyways. I went for an event and I'm Sure glad I attended. May not sure if that's how you spell her name was amazing. She greeted us with delight and with such a large party she was able to attend to all our needs in a timely manner. First off we ordered appetizers. I love calamari however I'm not a big fan of calamari in Alaska. Only because I enjoy the whole pieces meaning the ones with the legs. I can't seem to find it here in Alaska. So the calamari we ordered was just alright. It was fried perfectly and the sauce was a sweet spicy sauce but just wasn't what I wanted. This was the only meh part of the meal but remember I didn't have high hopes knowing it wouldn't be the pieces I wanted. Ok next up the pho. I got pho your way, you get 3 choices of meat. The list is everlasting it seems. Lol. I chose tendon, meat ball and oxtail. When the pho arrived I always taste the broth first before adding all the special sauces. Broth was amazing!!! I know it would be an amazing dinner the oxtail was fall off the bone. Meatballs were perfect and tendon melt in your mouth. Just loved it. I didn't get a picture of the bahn mi sandwich. I got it wit lemongrass chicken so good. And to top everything off the coconut juice with fresh coconut meat!!! Let's just say I had to get an extra to go!!! To say the least I will definitely be back for me. read more

I think hands down this is my favorite pho place in Anchorage and I've been to quite a few here. It's definitely not the traditional Vietnamese pho restaurant where you feel rushed and where you're not sure if they understood your order. They took food allergies seriously and made sure to note it to the back kitchen each time. Everything here is really clean and they bring out the sauces prior to bringing over your food so you know the condiments are clean. It's run by younger owners and so their attention to customer service far surpasses the service you'd get at other pho restaurants. Not only is the atmosphere and service good there but their pho is actually really good. I love their broth..not too salty and not bland..just right. I also love the option of "Pho Your Way" where you can choose 3 types of meat you want. Their grilled pork spring rolls are also the best I've had anywhere. I only wish the vietnamese coffee was dripped instead of premixed. I've been here about 6-8 times and in between visits have revisited other pho restaurants that i thought were "good" but now I would only go back to Phonatik to get my pho fix. read more
