What a nice surprise! This was our first visit to Phoebe's and we were impressed! I expected it to be a greasy diner, but ths was really good breakfast. We found parking in the lot, but they do offer valet. We put our name in and waited about 15 minutes before being seated on the patio. Even though it's hot out, the patio stays comfortable with the shades and fans. I had the famous crab cake benedict: (GF) 2 crispy lump crab cakes, poached eggs, hollandaise, green onion, sauteed asparagus, and my fiance had the brisket benny: Chopped BBQ brisket, buttermilk biscuits, over easy eggs, hollandaise, and BBQ sauce. Served with hash brown casserole and green onion. Great service and a great meal (huge portions). We'll be back!
I must admit that I was a bit skeptical about this tiny restaurant in an older strip mall bearing a big blue sign that said "Diner" on it. But I enjoy new experiences and menus with eclectic dishes. The menu had few choices for breakfast and I was unsure why it was suggested as a breakfast place. It's actually a good place to eat any time of day! The beautifully decorated patio provided the perfect welcome into their modestly decorated air conditioned restaurant and bar. When I say bar, it's more like a 1950s bar that you can sit at and have a meal at. Although drinks and meals were offered any time of day! The waitress was pleasant and helpful in suggesting add ons with my meal. But being a purist, I wanted to try it as intended. The food arrived in the normal amount of time. When I first saw my mozzarella omelette I was a little surprised! It didn't look anything like what it was described as! Oh well! I thought. Let's give it a try! My taste buds were happily amazed! Could this omelette smothered in mushroom gravy, green "pesto" and bread crumbs be the best omelette I've ever had?! The mushroom tomato gravy was so smooth! Along with the cilantro avocado topping. That tasted more like pesto, gave it the perfect zing! I had wished I the had ordered some toast to dip in the sauce. I could have done without the bread crumbs. But they were easily swept to the side. The amount of mozzarella cheese in this omelette led me to believe it was more of an omelette lasagna than a plain old omelette. This place is definitely a must if you are visiting Austin!
This was an awesome breakfast! We got a table right away and our server took our order right away. I got the Chile Rellenos and it was fantastic! The Chile was cooked beautifully and the fillings were gooey goodness! The coffee here was flavorful and I drank a bunch! Well worth the stop! Great food, great service!
The place is really cute and the customer service was 5/5. I got the Chile Relleno w/ green chorizo with fruit. This was really different but a good different. Scrabbled eggs stuffed in there and fried. Everything worked really well with each other but I could have shared this plate with someone. Those potatoes were delicious and the perfect amount of crispy. Chicken Fried Ribeye with hashbrown casserole. The asparagus was seasoned so well that my boyfriend discovered he really likes asparagus. He devoured his chicken friend ribeye. The biscuits and gravy were ok but it's not something that we would order again. We wanted to try it out to see if we would like it but it's a no for us. Definitely recommend and don't forget to join the waitlist so you don't have to wait long before you're seated.
Food: Deep Fried French Toast sounded like it would be amazing ... and it was! Omg I added bananas on top and wow, this is some of the best French toast in Austin. I genuinely loved it so much. I also got the Cafe du Monde Vietnamese Coffee because it intrigued me. I grew up with Cafe du Monde coffee, so I knew about the chicory flavor. But with this style/flavoring, omg wow... so good!! Gimme an Iv of that coffee!! Service: My server was super friendly! I thought she was sweet and funny. Ambiance: Super chill diner vibe with TVs on, big bar with AustinFC flag and lots of extra coffee to be made! It was really nice there.
I want to start by saying this was an Uber Eats order, so my experience may have been a tad different if I'd been there in person. I ordered 2 Chicken Biscuits. It typically comes with a fried chicken breast on top of an egg, cheese, and a biscuit. It also has potatoes and some type of jalapeño jam on the side. The chicken was seasoned but still missing something. I wish they'd also maybe cooked it just a little longer. The breading looked perfectly cooked but tasted like it needed a little more time. When I placed my order I called the store to ask if they could not put cheese on either of the meals. The nice host who answered the phone said of course. Needless to say, although "no cheese" was written on my receipt, there was still cheese on both. On the first one, I was able to get most of the egg separated from the cheese. The taste was basic, would have been better if I could have had it with the biscuit. Couldn't taste the first biscuit bc the cheese was melted on. Luckily, on the second one, I was able to just take the cheese off, sacrificing bits on the biscuit lol. The potatoes were basic. They had little to no seasoning. The Jam! It was definitely a saving grace for everything. It was kinda similar to chutney. I tasted it with each item and it definitely made it better. Is this a place I'll eat regularly, probably not. Will I eat here again, I'm not opposed to trying it again.
Came Saturday morning and was able to grab a seat at the bar. They defiantly are popular for both dine in and to go orders. Went with the French toast and badass bacon and eggs. French toast is massive so tool 1/2 home, nice and crispy and soft center. The Badass bacon and eggs was simple yet good. The hash brown casserole was great at first but then become kinda bland. The eggs tasted a lot like the casserole sooooo maybe next time I'll do over easy eggs. Bacon nice and crispy just how I like. Coffee was also good and service was great. Sitting at the bar you get a front row seat of all that's going on. Restaurant was clean and seemed to be well maintained.
Husband and I were on the search for some breakfast spot & we came across Phoebes with pretty good reviews. I wouldn't say it's the best breakfast spot though. I was really craving pancakes & these weren't so good. The tater tots were good though. Don't remember what my husband ordered but he also mentioned it's not what he had expected. I guess we were just expecting good breakfast because of the previous reviews & ratings. I do say, our server was super nice & attentive ! We went on a Sunday 9:30am & we're seated right away, get there early because it does get packed pretty quickly.
Came here on a saturday about an hour and half to closing. We had to wait a few mins for a table. The parking outside is really small. Once seated our server was friendly. Food came out fairly quickly. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and it was really good. Would def recommend trying but keep in mind the area and the parking situation.
We had the Badass Bacon and Eggs, Green Chorizo Shrimp and Grits, a Cheeky Monkey, a classic Bloody Mary and a grapefruit mimosa. Everything was great, very fresh, we didn't have to wait long to be seated or for our food to arrive. The service was excellent, the team is upbeat and they all seem happy. The ambiance was nice and casual - it's like an up scale diner. The bacon was thicc and melt-in-your-mouth status. The Cheeky Monkey was not our favorite item, but it was unique. My husband got the shrimp and grits and said it was "delightful". I'm not sure that I've heard him use that word to describe a dish before. We looked around at other people's food and it all looked real good. We will be back for more!
One of the perineally great things about Austin,now and forever is,you never know what you're gonna run into. For certain it will be interesting. Everything is hiding in plain sight. I sat down with Phoebe's menu and immediately wanted everything. Literally. I knew then, I'd discovered a good one. Over the decades I've prided myself on finding the hidden gems. You know,that place you set your sights on to hit when you roll into town. These days,most of the old spots have been torn down to make way for shiny new highrise condos. I'm adding Phoebe's to my list of definitely go. If you blink youl miss it. Just on the edge of surrounding gentrification in a non descrpt strip center. No big sign. Walk in the front door and the vibe hits you. Yes,the sound track of R & B is required in Austin but that's not it. The layout,smiles on faces,aroma of hunger inducing foods being prepared. It all adds up to high expectations. I went for the green chorizo hash. Wow! This is one of those occasions where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Green chorizo,corn,onion sweet potato,spinach. All topped with two over easy eggs, guacamole,pickled chilies,cotija cheese and cilantro. All the other menu items sounded just as good. Exceptional service,food and atmosphere.... Go!
This place has been on our list for a while, so glad we finally went. I had grilled pimento cheese sandwich and some awesome tater tots. The hubby enjoyed his burger. The service was very friendly and fast. Great place to enjoy lunch at. read more
biscuits and gravy my friends tell me would you eat this? That's all I wanna know Case concluded. What is this and the woman also told me she wouldn't charge me for it and brought me eggs instead, but then turned around and charged me for the sponges. This looks like something that you wash the dishes with. vegan biscuit's ? the server was nice though & that's why i did two stars - however I don't appreciate her still charging us for this when she said she wouldn't. read more
Came here on a Sunday for brunch with an out of town friend. It did not disappoint, but the accessibility of the small dining area and parking can be challenging. The service was excellent and helpful with navigating the menu. I had the phoebes Benedict and it was tasty, but the bread it was on was a little dry for my liking. My friend had the fried chicken and biscuits and had nothing but good things to say. The coffee and brunch cocktails also were great but pricy. Overall a great spot for brunch if you are in south Austin. read more

Okay WOW!! This food was so hot and fresh and just delicious My husband and I got the cheeky monkey and the brisket Benny. I love how unique the cheeky monkey was, I had never had anything quite like it and I would order it again and again! The diner was darling as well, it gave cute old fashioned vibes and I loved it Our waiter Leland was also the best and for sure needs a raise!! We will definitely be coming back!! read more

I've had Phoebe's bookmarked for years. As often as I'm in Austin, I just never had the opportunity to try it until recently. There's a moderate sized parking lot with complimentary valet. We were able to find a spot that wasn't reserved for valet. I was able to add my name to the waitlist on the Yelp app while we were driving there. When we arrived, we were seated immediately on the (dog friendly) patio. Justin was our server and he was really great and laid back. He was so busy with his tables, but he was cool, calm, and collected. He told us that he genuinely likes all of the food at Phoebe's and said that he can't say that for some of the other restaurants that he has previously worked at haha. Beverage: Iced Vietnamese Coffee - This was very good, but very strong. I couldn't drink it all during brunch so I ended up taking the rest to go. Food: BST Omelet - Bacon, spinach, tomato; it was very flavorful and the portion was large. I really liked the aioli, especially with the breakfast potatoes. There was a generous amount of spinach and the bacon was so delicious. Crab Cake Benny - My mom ordered this and liked it, but the eggs were over cooked. The yolk was not runny when she cut into them. She enjoyed the asparagus that accompanied it. I have to give a shout out to the random woman who told me about Phoebe's while we were waiting on our cars to be serviced at Firestone. It took me a few years to try it, but I'm happy that I finally did! read more

Chris, good, this is a pretty little restaurant in the middle of some intersection where you couldn't believe how good it is. I went in for brunch and was surprised with the Benedict of crabcakes and also the Chile relleno, which was filled with egg over a bed of green chorizo... even though they forgot to put their rancheros sauce on top, was still awesome. read more

Cornbread muffins are to die for! Soft, great flavor and served warm! Kids menu was great for my 7-year-old. I had the biscuits and gravy with tomato gravy rather than meat gravy and it was delicious! My husband had the shrimp plate and the breading was crunchy and crisp - really good! The service was very good and there's now outdoor covered seating as well as inside seating. I'm so glad this place has made it through Covid and is still thriving. read more

Was visiting Austin and was looking for brunch before heading out of town. The service was quick and I started with a strawberry lemon mimosa. It was an amazing start. We got the banana flambé French toast & the beet hash. Both were excellent. The diner is in a strip mall and has indoor and outdoor seating as well as counter service. We ate inside. Stopped by Phoebe's Diner for Sunday brunch. This location had been on my to-try list for awhile, so I was looking forward to it. Parking - pretty tough because of the small lot. Valet parking is available for $5 but even then, the process of finding a spot was kinda hectic. It was a bit loud in the restaurant, but service was great - we were celebrating two of my friends' birthdays, and our server was kind and accommodating with providing us pancakes on the house that we could stick the candles into. Also came with whipped cream/butter and blueberries on the side. Phoebe's Benedict (3.5/5) - Featured ham, over easy eggs, biscuits, hollandaise, and green onion with hashbrown casserole. Overall thought the flavor was just okay, not anything amazing. - Decent portion size My meal came out to be $22 after everything, which is more on the expensive end for a meal that wasn't spectacular. If I came back another time, might try something else on the menu! Also might be more inclined to try the Downtown location since there's more street parking there. read more

My second time at this place. The first experience was better, but I didn't write a review, so I came back the second time and it wasn't as great. The shrimp and grit were painfully salty. The Benedict was good but not as outstanding as I remembered from the first experience. The service is great as usual. I came in at 8:30am or 9am so there was zero wait. Overall I'm not sure I'll be back, maybe only if someone else suggests. read more

I was only in Austin for 24 hours to attend my god daughter's graduation from her master's program at TSU. Since her graduation was at 10am, my family wanted to go out for brunch. This place came up on my search. I'm thankful that I was able to join the waitlist via Yelp because there was definitely a wait and after eating here, I understand why. When we pulled up, my mom said she probably would've driven right by under normal circumstances. lol But she trusts my Yelp recommendations. We were able to find a parking spot in the small lot, but I love that they actually offered complimentary valet service for the restaurant. The diner is a small cozy spot and I was pleasantly surprised that they were able to accommodate our party of 7 in a large booth in the rear of the restaurant. The service was great, but the food was even better. The french toast was absolutely delicious but HUGE! lol I ordered the one with berries for my godson to share with me. Needless to say, he ate the greater majority. I had the brisket benny as my primary meal. It was a lot of food. The brisket was tender and well seasoned, but I could have done without the barbecue sauce. The barbecue sauce really overpowered the meal and took away from what was best about it, in my opinion. If I ever have the chance to go back, I would order it again, but with the bbq sauce on the side. read more

Side biscuit sage gravy. No need to Dr this gravy with salt or pepper. It's perfect! Chicken and grits delicious with a fantastical spiced fry All well spiced. Perfect iced tea. Deep and dark. Music is up beat/fast and does not match the atmosphere. It's also really tiny. Hard to hear what's on other than its noise. read more
The brisket burrito was hands down OUR fav! Delicious tender brisket, the fried tomatoes to start are perfectly balanced with the side of pimento cheese. The bacon is thick sliced well cut , the mitad had us sweating tears of joy! The service is friendly and helpful! Our server Jannah is well informed and made the experience even better her hospitality was so appreciated. Be prepared to wait for a table but food is very good! Great for brunch with friends or family. My favorite at all the locations is the shrimp and grits. It's heavy but it's so good. Tried the south first tots and those were incredible too. It is pretty small inside with not too many seats and parking is limited as well. There is street parking around the corner near the park too. Service was kind and was able to split up the bill for 5 of us. I liked how you could see what spot you were in line while waiting for a table too. read more

wow! just wow! I am not a breakfast food person but this diner has so many options! It was pretty busy (Sunday brunch) but you can join the waitlist ahead of time. We only waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. once seated, our server Akiya was a breath of fresh air. very knowledgeable about the menu + made me feel great about my selections: I order their version of an espresso martini (so delicious) and the fried green tomatoes BLT (crazy delicious!!) -- Akiya recommended me to add pimento cheese to my BLT and she was so right. I have no complaints about my meal and dining experience here. The patio was perfect for the fall weather (minus the bees) and just a great spot to yap with your girl pals! I will be adding this place to my list of 'must eat' for my friends when they visit me in atx! read more
Parking is limited but I did not struggle to find a spot on a Saturday morning. There is an option to valet but I didn't use it. The best item that I ordered was the cheeky monkey, it wasn't something that I've tried before but it was a great combination of flavors and texture. The brisket benny was underwhelming, not bad but I personally didn't enjoy the selected bbq sauce. It was a bit busy but they have the option of joining a waitlist before arriving. The service was great and our server made sure that we were happy with what we ordered. I would definitely visit again if I'm in Austin. read more

Excellent food, glad we tried this place. Service was efficient and friendly, and gave excellent recommendations. Brisket Benny was quite a surprise. Chopped brisket served on pan cut biscuits, with an over easy egg and hollandaise sauce. Well cooked. The more I ate, the more I loved it! My wife got shrimp and grits, with goat cheese, sautéed mushrooms, house-made chorizo, and hatch green chilies. Lots of flavor and kick. read more

The eggs Benedict were not my favorite. One of the breads was burned and very hard to bite (pictured). The other one was soft. The ham was also kinda tough but it was tasty. The flapjacks and potatoes were pretty good! The service was quick and the diner had a good ambiance. read more

great experience. at the top, the absolute best part of our brunch was our server, aislyn. she was friendly and sweet, took time to build genuine rapport with us, gave food recommendations, and sent in our orders the second we said them, making drinks and food come out with a quickness. the patio is small and enclosed on the sidewalk but it was still cute and very temperate. for food we had the monkey ball, it was fine but the breading was a bit thick/cementy. we had the bacon breakfast, brisket benedict, and cocktails. everything was phenomenal. thank y'all. read more
This was my first successful Yelp reservation. We arrived by an Uber Waymo - also a first! Pretty trippy. I don't advise doing that in a less than sober state of mind . Upon arrival our seating position went from 2nd to 5th. Odd. There was a line 20 people deep so I felt good about putting my name in remotely. We walked in, I introduced myself, and they sat us immediately. The server greeted us as quickly as we sat. She took our drink order and had it on the table before we could think. I had a chicken & biscuit and my bride had Migas. The Migas were very flavorful. She really liked the Hatch Holindaise sauce and felt it was delicious. The potatoes lacked seasoning. The chicken was cooked perfectly. A crispy outer shell and a moist chicken meat. The biscuit was burnt but did add to the flavor. The potatoes were bland and needed salt. In all, I'd suggest adding some gravy or Holindaise to bring it all together. We sat out on the front patio. The weather was nice and the flys were a bit much. Now sitting on the porch did have its bonuses, it also had its setbacks. Such as, car horns being chirped in your ears or flys interrupting your bite or your waitress forgetting you are drinking coffee and might want another cup. I drank my glass of water, my glass of OJ and my cup of coffee and had not been refilled. In all, it is a very busy place, that serves good food, its staff just needs to be more attentive to their patrons. It's not the best restaurant in the US, but a pretty good place to eat. read more

Absolutely everything I'm looking for in a brunch experience from start to finish. Don't let the wait deter you - instead add yourself to the list before leaving the house. Then DO peek at the neighbors' dishes because choosing will be difficult. For a sweet/savory share, I suggest you DO NOT MISS a version of the French Toast - classic is deep-fried and indulgent; extra special Bananas Foster version has a base of banana bread and praline pecan sauce. Also recommending anything covered in the House Hatch Chile Hollandaise - Migas are a Phoebe's original underneath its buttery goodness with the right touch of Texas heat and a side of crispy masa cakes. More to love, especially service that makes you feel like family - Ariana was enthusiastic, available, and brightened the entire experience. Can't wait to return for some specials and more Horchata Iced Coffee! read more
The construction in the area didn't keep us from trying this spot. No wait around 10 am on a Friday. Smaller Diner with Booth seating and an area in the back for larger parties. Also, had Bar stool seating and ample outdoor seating (but too hot for that) Good selection of Breakfast and Lunch favorites. BST Omelet was delicious filled with Bacon, Spinach, Tomato and those Red potatoes didn't disappoint. Bananas Fosters French Toast reminded me of the ones I've had in NOLA. Scrambled eggs were soft scrambled as ordered and the Hash Brown Casserole was tasty. Service was friendly and attentive. Looks like they have a couple of other locations. They have Daily Specials and some solid BBQ and Lunch Menu options. Loved the Bourdain breakfast quote on the wall and would highly recommend! read more

Went to brunch right after a bachelorette party. The food was great and the service was great. We liked all the choices and they allowed some substitutions. My friend doesn't eat bacon and they allowed the switch for an avocado instead! Come early!! They definitely have diner vibes but all of the seating is clean and well kept. 'Been wanting to try Phoebe's for sometime now... close by in my neighborhood, a rare gem in an unassuming place!! 'Walked in to bright, clean decor, awesome music and friendly staff. At 7:30 I was the only one dining in. Coffee was perfect. Cheeky Monkey blew me away with an upgrade on the scotch egg. So much flavor and HUGE. I could only eat 1/2. Short stack of pancakes was heavy, lackluster, disappointing (hence 4 stars, not five). I will definitely return, especially to catch other breakfast entrees and their patty melt. read more

A friend and I decided last minute to go to Phoebe's Diner for Sunday morning brunch. Since I love brunch, I was excited to try Phoebe's Diner out. This location is a cheery, sunny spot with a cute blue/green style. Although busy, as expected for a Sunday morning, the service was not lacking. We were sat within a few minutes and our waitress was timely with our drinks, food, and check. We ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, a Brisket Benny, and the Fried Chicken Biscuit with waters. I was excited by their menu because it included a variety of my favorite southern food such as Fried green tomatoes (which we will be back to try), and Biscuits and Gravy. Overall, I enjoyed the food, however I will say the Biscuits and Gravy was too dry for me and I prefer a flaky biscuit instead of the buttermilk squares. My Brisket Benny was fantastic and had an explosion of flavor, however my friend was slightly disappointed with the lack of flavor for the Fried Chicken Biscuit. That may be because the type of food in this dish does not have a lot of flavor on their own (egg, biscuit, fried chicken). I will definitely be back to try more menu items, but probably will not order the Biscuits and Gravy or anything on a biscuit again based on my preference. read more

Oh gosh. Not certain. I think there may be some vegetarian options but vegan might be a stretch.
Their espresso machine was broken the last time I went. Does anyone know if they got a new one yet?
Hello, we actually no longer have an espresso machine. We do have wonderful drip coffee from TX Coffee Trader's and our house made Cafe Du Monde Iced Coffee though. Come in and visit us!
