This place has a cozy, casual vibe, with friendly staff that makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The menu is straightforward, focusing on pho and other traditional Vietnamese dishes, and the quality is evident in every bowl!! The portion sizes are generous, and the noodles are cooked just right, providing that perfect chewy texture Lots of choices for appetizers and rice dishes. The spring rolls are particularly amazing with crunch and a flavorful dipping sauce. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, ideal spot for a casual meal!!

A really nice place to have a quick bite with an open layout and big windows. All the items are fresh to order and they have more than just Pho. I opted for the sesame tofu off the Chinese portion of the menu with fried rice and was pleased. My broccoli side was freshly steamed and not overcooked. I was impressed for a spot in a retail plex. It exceeded expectations

Since we are limited on food in Manor and I love pho, I decided to try this spot out a few more times. Can confirm - their orange chicken is so of the best we have had! The owner does his own homemade sauce and you can tell. They give you plenty of chicken too, enough for two to share. The pho is still a very basic broth, but it gets the fix in. I like how they do they meatballs here, the slices give a better bite. I get the rare steak on the side to dip/cook myself. I also really love their wonton soup and their egg drop soup. The small is like $4 but is still plenty, can't go wrong there. Overall have been happy with the food improvements. I do to-go orders for lunch and dinner occasionally.

Steak and meatball pho

My husband has tried this place out many times and loves it! I'm just not a big pho person, so hadn't ventured to try it. He gets the steak and meatball pho and egg rolls. My daughter also loves it and gets the plain kids pho. It was my first time going this past week and I was pleasantly surprised! I got the sesame chicken and fried rice with pork dumplings. The chicken was so good! They use good quality white meat - which I loved! The portions are huge and I had so much leftover for lunch the next day. The service was also so fast. Our food was ready within 5 minutes and the restaurant was bustling. I would definitely come back again and try the boba drinks!

First time here, upon entering we notice it was 70% full with several to go orders waiting for pick up. "Must be good" PHO YES- perhaps they wanted to emphasize the fact that they sell pho. The menu consisted more of Chinese food and perhaps pho is so well known in TX that they had to add it to their menu. Whatever the case I passed up the chance to try the pho. I love egg noodle and wonton so I asked if they would add egg noodle to the soup for an up charge. Our gal said she could not put the noodle in the bowl but I can order egg noodles on the side for an additional $3. I said yes lets do that. My mate ordered the chicken and broccoli plate. My wonton soup came out immediately and about 5 mins later the chicken and broccoli came. About 3 mins later my side of egg noodle arrived on a small plate. Let's get to the good part - the chicken and broccoli was a nice portion with two bowl full size of white rice. It was tasty standard fare give it a 7.5 out of 10. Now for the disappointment- my improvise egg noodle wonton soup. The broth was just average in no way did I thought the broth was memorable, my side of egg noodle was a good portion. The wonton ton just ruined my experience there. This is the second place I have been too where the "wonton" reminded me that it was produced or purchased somewhere other than their kitchen. Has anyone ever purchased mini chicken cilantro wonton at Costco this looked identical to that I'm not saying that it was but in my head I thought it was 85% from there. When I go to a restaurant see this the first thing I think of is they are cutting corners or just not capable of making decent wonton it's very easy to make so why not do it instead of buying it from somewhere else? Again I say this as my opinion of what I was eating no claim that it is fact. My guess is don't go here thinking you are going to get authentic pho expect a decent Chinese dish and yes! They serve pho on the menu.

I was looking forward to the pho, but the lunch specials, all Chinese, were too tempting. They did not disappoint. 4 of our table of 5 went for the Chinese food, and it all looked delicious. It also arrived at our table very quickly, yet it all seemed absolutely fresh and hot. My Sesame Chicken felt very Americanized--but I suppose that's to be expected. A nice sweet sauce coated BIG chunks of fresh fried chicken alongside a nice serving of broccoli and steamed rice. My guy swung out and ordered Calamari. He is not one to enthuse, so when he said it was very good, very fresh, perfectly fried, that is high praise. Only one lunch companion ordered pho. She said it was fine, but not the best she'd had. The service was excellent. It feels like a family-run place, where everyone really cares about high quality food and good service. The place is clean and bright. My only complaint is those awful metal chairs that simply don't work well with our fat American butts.

The Seafood Special
Christian R.

It was my wife and I's first time at this place. The staff were very friendly and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was great--table set ups and all were organized and clean when we were in. My wife had the Chicken Fried Rice which had delicious flavor. It was a generous portion and the chicken was nice and soft. She loved her meal. I had the "Seafood Special" with a side of fried rice. The seafood was plump and well-portioned with the vegetables on the plate. It was in some type of sauce/gravy. My fried rice was not as flavorful as my wife's, so I ended up stacking it on the plate with the sauce that was covering the seafood. I had my meal with some iced Thai Tea. Next time we'll definitely be getting Pho though! Especially with colder weather coming--we're happy there's a restaurant nearby that offers it.

New Boba

Amazing Chinese food! Love their egg drop, Beef & Broccoli and their spicy Lomein. Service is always so fast and very friendly. Cool, small personal spot for date nights.

You can learn a lot about Vietnamese food by NOT eating in an air-conditioned Western restaurant…read more * * * Com Tam Pa Phi is in a fascinating food truck park at the corner of Parmer and Dessau. The clientele here is downscale. The food is downscale. If you are looking for the Elizabeth Street Cafe, it is not here. A lot of the places are fine for what they are. But you have to get yourself into a downscale mentality. * * * Virtually every single truck has built a shack to eat the food in. You are out of the sun. You are in the shade. There is some kind of a breeze - either from an electric fan or cracks in the wall or ceiling. Housing is crude. This is rough eating. More importantly, there is no air conditioning. So it is going to get hot, shade or no shade, fan or no fan. * * * Most of the patrons are Mexican or Central Americans. They are also much much smarter than me. They would show up in their trucks - often a giant pick up truck. Someone would jump down from the passenger side ... Go into a shack ... Get their bag of food ... And take it Home. They were eating in air conditioned comfort. I was the only idiot actually eating in the shacks. I was roasting like a horned frog on a rock That said, I ate like a king I also got a huge lesson in what Vietnamese food is all about. * * * A lot of Vietnamese places are like the food trucks at Parmer and Dessau. Vietnam is hot. Vietnam is humid. Lots of street food is served outside. You eat on a folding chair. Or you eat in a shack similar to what I was eating in. In 105 degrees, things change. * * * a) In air conditioned restaurants, you get raw carrot and raw daikon and raw cucumber on the side. You ignore those and eat your main dish. Out in the shack in 105 degrees, the raw carrots, raw daikon and raw cucumbers were life savers. They were a major contrast with the hot food straight out of the fryer. Never have I enjoyed a raw cucumber so much. b) In an air conditioned restaurant, you ignore the condiments that are served at your table. You leave the Rooster Sauce and the Rice Vinegar alone. Condiments become king in 105 degrees in a shack. I was dipping my raw veggies in rice vinegar or alternatively in chili paste. They were the absolute best part of the meal. c) I will describe the two dishes I had next. Keep in mind this is downscale Vietnamese cooking. Lots of the ingredients are going to come straight out of the freezer. In a brick and mortar air conditioned place, I would be unhappy if I was served food straight from the freezer. In the shack, my meal actually worked. d) One of my two dishes was a lemon salt and pepper fried shrimp. This was straight out of the freezer and almost tasteless by itself. But dipped in chili paste, it was just divine. I chowed down my shrimp quite happily. I was starting to get addicted to that chili paste. e) The other dish was vermicelli with egg roll and grilled pork. Once again, the egg roll was out of the freezer. Once again, rice vinegar and chili paste would be the stars of the show. The pork was what you would expect from an honest but downscale lower class place. The pork was decent enough to eat. (No health violations here.) But it was definitely gristly and fatty. The pork was just acceptable all by itself. It got better - but not amazing - if it was dipped in sauce. f) In 105 degrees, iced Vietnamese coffee is GOD. They serve theirs the old fashioned way where it brews in your tin cup before you pour it over ice. The iced Vietnamese coffee extended by two hours the amount of time I could have sat comfortably in that shack. I wish I had some of that iced Vietnamese coffee right now. * * * If you ate only one Vietnamese meal in Austin, would you want it to be Com Tam Pa Phi? Probably not. Do you want to replicate the experience of eating out on a road somewhere in rural central Vietnam? Com Tam Pa Phi will do you for sure. Can you eat well at Com Tam Pa Phi? I had a great time. But frankly, the Mexicans were more on top of things than I was. If you live anywhere near the corner of Parmer and Dessau, Picking your food up from the food court and eating it in your apartment makes a lot of sense. And in your apartment, you can dip your veggies in anything you want that HEB sells.

Out of the three, I liked the beef most because of the more tender sliced meat. The bread was too soft for my liking and I wished it was a bit more like a baguette. The rice bowl is definitely better than the banhmi. Good customer service. Water cup is available on the counter.

This reminds me a lot like Chipotle where you select the toppings. The place itself had some seating and a drink refill station. The bread was not made the way I like it a soft and flaky baguette bread but it was edible. My kids had ordered the rice bowl and they said tasted fine but nothing spectacular. Overall, you have to try this yourself and judge whether its good or not. Its definitively a different take on the traditional Vietnamese dishes.
