I love Pho Xom. I crave Pho Xom every week. They have basically ruined every other pho restaurant for me because nothing can even come close. The flat noodles, which I'm told is the North Vietnamese style noodles for pho, have a wonderful texture. My favorite thing to get is the Pho Tai Lan, because the meat is thinly sliced and cooked in beef tallow with garlic. The tallow gives the broth a perfect balance of fattiness that is not too greasy, but just enough to give you that rich flavor and smooth mouthfeel. It's just heavenly. The restaurant itself is modest and small, and on weekends during peak hours it can get very busy since the establishment has gotten popular recently. Stopped by around 5:15 on a Friday on our way to a comedy show and we had a delicious and amazing time. I've been hearing about how great Pho Xom is for a while and am glad we finally got a chance to try it. It's a bit more expensive than your local neighborhood pho spot but IMO it's worth the money and the drive. We were seated by staff who were really helpful and came around to check on our complementary jasmine tea multiple times. My husband and I split the egg rolls, dry pho and the pho dac biet (assuming they were out of spring rolls that day?) and our drinks were the egg coffee for him and the viet yogurt for me. I really liked the extras bar in the back too! Dry pho was hands down my favorite dish of the night. Beef was so tender and flavorful and the richness of the dish was really great. The pickled garlic in the back was the perfect accompaniment for each bite as well. Pho dac biet was also great -- they don't skimp on the proteins and the broth was super flavorful. Loved the wide pho noodles in both bowls. Egg rolls were crispy and stuffed full of savory meat filling, and the drinks were great. The viet yogurt basically tasted like a key lime pie shake. Just a note that the culantro they use instead of cilantro is basically taste-wise a larger version of the same herb, so if you're a cilantro hater like me ask for them to remove it from your dish. I accidentally order Pho Tai Lan which is a stir fried beef with light seasoning and lots of garlic chunk in the pho noodle soup bowl. I thought that was their signature pho which comes with lightly minced rare steak. Their Pho Tai Lan is more bad but it was just too oily for my taste. My taste bud was looking for a traditional Northern style pho (Pho Ha Noi) so I clearly was disappointed by the dish I order. It was my fault then. Will need to come back to try the other dishes next time I'm in the area. I really like the generous portion of the side veggies and also, their hot sauce is just the type that brings me home to VN. Pho Xom is located in a strip mall on the bottom floor of an apartment complex the parking lot is a covered lot with spots dedicated to retail which is nice. Upon entering it was full at about 11:30 on a Monday to my surprise but just shows the quality. I was seated and instructed to order on my phone or a kiosk at the front. After placing my order they brought me complimentary iced tea which was great and despite it being a place my own order and self service for the cold sides for my pho they came around to ask if everything was a good and refill my tea so good service! I ordered the short rib pho which was FULL of meat and meatballs i would 100% recommend it. It's also huge with a ton of noodles so if you aren't a big eater it's definitely shareable or 2 meals. The broth was flavorful and did not require any additional sauces. It was served with garnishes and jasmine tea- so good! I will certainly give a few more details supporting this statement, but long story short: Your next bowl of Pho needs to be at this place. It's newer build out in what will be a sprawling apartment complex being built north of GBT and on the east side of Old Denton road. Nestled amongst a slew of Asian foods in the area, this place has the flavor and authenticity to dominate the Vietnamese pho market. It's a storefront right off Old Denton and you have to park behind it in the garage when you enter. They're still building out all around it but once you are inside the place is immaculate and the table are well-spaced. The open design allows for tables to be put together for large groups, and there is no doubt they are proud to be Vietnamese. The menu is very simply done, based around "12-hour pho broth, made with love and Saigon soul". Six different pho combinations (sorry but no chicken here!) and soon to be two more round out the entire entree menu. Spring rolls and egg rolls round out the appetizers and a few different coffee flavors. Sounds light on choices but my gut (literally) tells me this place will be just fine. The owner, Tran, told me she came over as a student and her goal is to have very authentic pho. She was ever polite about other pho places and supportive of their future success, but it is clear her goal is to more accurately define what the "real stuff" is. I've been to many pho places and I would say that the differences are subtle, yet very noticeable. Flat rice noodles instead of the round string type. The thin cut slices of beef rounds melt in your mouth. I did not try it, but Tran recommended the Pho Tai Lan as the meat is garlic-flavored and then wok-fried. The combination was great (meat just perfectly done) and that was great. But at least now I have an excuse to come back for the Tai Lan. My daughter got the pho meatball kid-size. Both have plenty of food $17 and $10 respectively. The egg rolls actually came out after the pho, but it's clear that they were made fresh and at $4 a solid starter. It's pretty evident when you just look at the soup this place is a little different to the good. Heads up, jasmine tea and water are served with meal free of charge. It is clear that the food products are bought from the market fresh every day (they're right down the street from H-Mart so makes sense). Two large groups as well as several individual tables flanked my daughter and I, so the crowd tells a story at 10:15 am in the morning! The ordering is done here at a kiosk (there's two of them) and the menu is so simple it didn't get confusing at all. As long as you stay in the regular recipes it seems a fair deal. If you venture off or try to get extra meat, the prices could add up quickly. But take my word for it, it's not necessary to do that. The tip was added in which I don't mind, but just mentioning it so that you are aware that you pay first here. Further proof was the lack of heaviness and bloated feeling that sometimes accompanies post-pho meals. Food was clean and didn't make me feel drowsy at all. They seem to take into account other small details, like using Chin-su instead of the rooster (sriracha) sauce because it has much less sodium flavor. The staff was very helpful and glad to answer all my questions which makes the place even better when the people are so nice. It reflects in the food as well as the atmosphere. I have to admit it..... this is one of the best Pho bowls I've had. We just came back to Texas that night after being in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico with no good Asian food in sight, and this was the first place we went to. It's a self-order at a kiosk, but a very nice staff member came up and guided us through the menu. She let us know that it may be a little different from other Phos but it is very much traditional. Everybody got classic one and we got to our table. They served us some jasmine tea (goes with the soup), plenty of Thai basil and sprouts. The portion size is pretty big for the price and the vegetables are huge and fresh. Just a bit not as flavorful for my liking. By default, you get a cup of fresh unsweetened iced tea-- it's either black or jasmine.. I couldn't quite pinpoint it..I could be wrong either way but it's very refreshing. A basket full of basil and the herb, Ngò gai. I didn't receive any bean sprouts or limes as this is Northern Vietnam style pho. The broth tastes delicious before adding any hoisin or sriracha which is also a southern Vietnamese addition. Ended up requesting limes as it needed a little citrus. Would have loved sliced jalapeños and cilantro but they don't typically serve them with this type of pho either lol. I love the minced rare beef and their meatballs were really good. My first time trying northern style pho and it was so good! We had the pho tai lan and the signature pho. We got the kid sizes so we could try different styles and it was honestly the perfect amount. If I had to choose one I would recommend trying pho tai lan which has black pepper, garlic and eye round beef in it. Both are good but that one was a bit more aromatic and I preferred the meat in that one a bit more. Service was quick - they have you order at the kiosk before you sit down.
