Food was great. But definitely the worst service I've experienced in a restaurant. Not one time did I get checked on. My waiter had a horrible attitude when I asked for the egg rolls that i ordered that he didn't bring me. When I went to pay for my food, it was $19, I gave him a $50 bill, and he hands me back 2 quarters and tried to walk off. I said, "I gave you a $50?" He says "yeah?" I had to ask for my change back. While at 99.9% of pho restaurants you should order pho, at Pho Tay Do - you get the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup). Everyone and their moms know that Pho Tay Do is the spot for BBH. "#27 and make it a large!" (also comes with a side of fresh bean sprouts, purple cabbage, lime and basil for some texture). If you come to a Vietnamese restaurant and see it packed with a bunch of older Vietnamese people - you know that s*** is legit. The older Vietnamese generation doesn't believe in Yelp - they go by word of mouth and word on the street is: Pho Tay Do's bun bo hue is bomb. The soup is SO flavorful with just the right amount of spice. If you want, you can add lime but y'all don't wanna be disrespectin' the chef and messin' up the flavor with sriracha. Clears the sinuses. Perfect on a chilly day. While they make a mean bowl of BBH, their com dac biet (combination rice platter) is also a winner. It comes with a perfectly fried egg, deliciously marinated pork, and grilled shrimp. Love the scallions & oil (mo hanh) they put on the pork and on top of the rice. Don't get the pho here! The food wasn't amazing, but the customer service sure was. They were friendly even when we did not speak Vietnamese. They were happy to accommodate a large group for a long time. I even ran in and used their bathroom first thing when I got in there and they did not make it a problem. Would return if lived locally. read more

[ LOOONG OVERDUE REVIEW - SORRY ] I have heard how tasty Bún bò Huế (BBH) here is. So, just knowing that, I had to put Pho Tay Do under my list to try ASAP. This is my experience back in December - yikes, half a year late... Also, realizing I have never went back, how crazy for a great BBH! = FOOD I tried their BBH, bone broth pho, and spring roll. This place was my first time trying the BBH; so, thank you Pho Tay Do opening my taste buds to the world of BBH! For a person that only gets bone broth pho, this was a strange approach to different type of Vietnamese soup. If I reviewed this in December, I think I'd give super confused review because I didn't know what BBH was and would have only compared to bone broth pho. However, after trying at few places, I for sure can claim that Pho Tay Do serves a great tasting BBH. I love the noodle and all the slurps I can make, lol. The loaded veggies given on side is just heaven to me. Random TMI: I put a lot of veggies on my soup and eat them first. I know it changes the broth; so, I also do take few sips of the broth before adding veggies to appreciate the broth made by chef! Anyways, going back, I also loved those pig blood curd and pork leg (?) for excellent taste! Pho, on the other hand, is okay to me. Perhaps, my tongue has been trained to other pho location's broth. It was okay. I definitely need to return to enjoy Pho Tay Do's BBH again! = SERVICE Took awhile to be seated and order to be taken; so, little bit iffy. They gave us water bottles instead of cups in safety of COVID - fantastic! Noticed a female employee moving from front of the restaurant to kitchen back and forth without her mask on. = INTERIOR/ATMOSPHERE Holy moly, this place was packed and only had 2 open tables when we went. Lots and plenty of seats to fill the restaurant~ = COVID19 Since, this visit was before Governor's mask lift and 100% capacity; so, I will speak from that time period. No, they were not following the capacity mandate where every seating was open and I was literally behind another party that kept bumping his chair legs to mine. Quick update to my review. I like exploring Vietnamese food all over DFW, and Pho Tay Do is a Vietnamese restaurant that I typically visit for its Bun Bo Hue (Beef Noodle Soup Hue style). This is based on a recent visit (9/2015). My Overall Rating - 2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Return) Atmosphere - No Change - Basic strip mall restaurant. 1/2 Star. Service - No Change. Fast at taking your order, bringing it out, but you'll never see them again until you pay. 1/2 Star. Food - I've recommended their Bun Bo Hue in the past, but either they've changed the recipe or cook, it's not the same. Unlike pho, Bun Bo Hue is spicier and deep flavor. At least it used too. Our bowls came off being incredibly bland. Now, there was tons of meat/protein, but if the broth isn't up to spec, it influences the rest of the meal. The signature red broth is there, but the flavor simply was not. The entire meal was underwhelming & that's really a shame since this used to be a destination spot for me. No Star. Will I Return? - Yes. I have history with Pho Tay Do so I'm going to assume it was a bad day. Given you can get a nice meal for about $10, it's has lots of value. This is my update after 6 years of bun bo hue at this location: I've been here so many times that its hard to count anymore. I know it shows something like 180 but I can assure you that I have come here twice what is on record... and for one reason... their bun bo hue.. If you haven't figured it out by now, you will when you sit down and wonder why the only thing people are ordering seems to be just the bun bo hue. It is absolutely the best in all of DFW... and I can assure you I have tried them all... even the ones showing up in D magazine. Though I guess I will need to hit up Houston to verify if its the best in Texas. Service is standard. I don't really sit and eat. Usually I just like to order to go since you get twice the amount of food then a large in the restaurant. Its family owned, and the family has known me so long that they recognize my voice when I call in an order. Same nice people for the past couple years, and I hope it doesn't change ever too.... because I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I couldn't have my fixen... I admit it.. bun bo hue to me is like candy to a fat kid... or crack to an addict, which sometimes I wonder if its the reason I am addicted to it. Best bun bo hue in North Texas hands down. My family has been coming here for years and Tay Do never disappoints. My parents grew up in Vietnam, and they know this is the most authentic place around. I'm actually not sure why they called the restaurant "Pho Tay Do," it should be named "Bun Bo Hue Tay Do" after this signature dish. Seriously, the last time we came here, my dad only ordered (in Vietnamese) "2 regulars and 1 large, no pig feet" and the server knew exactly what we wanted. Delicious food, efficient service, and reasonable prices. We've made it a tradition to stop by every time we're returning from the DFW airport. If this place ever closes, I'll cry. Indeed this place does have the best Bun Bo Hue (BBH) in town. There is no need to look at the menu because it is the only thing worth getting here. The bun bo hue is huge and fills with a lot of meat, pork and beef included. For those who aren't adventurous with eating congealed pork blood, oxtails, or pig's knuckle, ask to leave them out. But seriously, you're missing out by not eating them. The broth is very flavorful and the noodle is just right. The soup looks blazing red, which often translate to spicy but it isn't too bad. And the soup goes better with the red cabbage than bean sprout in my opinion. I'd avoid the pho and rice plates because they are very mediocre. Service: They are short staff like all the time. Seriously, they have like 1 or 2 waiters all the time, and they looked so stressed from being over worked. The BBH comes out really quick (since it's already cooked and all you need to do is assemble the dish), but if you order anything else, it might takes forever. I've seen people complained for getting their coffee after they finished their soup. Ambiance: Just go straight for the food and avoid your surroundings. Avoid looking into the kitchen. This place gets packed for lunch. And oddly it smells like smoke as if it was a smoking establishment. Maybe it's a smell from the cooks in the kitchen (although cooks smoking is a stereotype). But after receiving the bun bo hue ($8.95 small), spicy cousin of pho, within minutes, the smell emanating from the soup and the taste invading my nostrils quickly took over. This aromatic soup had pork feet for cartilage-eaters but you can request to have it not in the soup. And like with pho, this soup is served with greens for you to add. This soup was also a little too spicy for me, due to the chili oil, but I believe you can ask for them to not put the chili oil (not quite sure). However, the spiciness of the soup was offset with the help of thin cuts of beef and noodles. The service was good and the owner is a friendly woman. And of the 25 people I saw eat here for lunch, only four did not order bun bo hue - so that's saying something right there. But the chances for me of coming back is still slim, because after leaving, I smelled the cigarette smoke on my jacket. Apparently it has stuck, but I hope Pho Tay Do makes the change and fix this. read more

One of the best Ban bu hue in Plano, Richardson area. In terms of value, it is in fact cheapest. A large bowl costs $11.99 but it is enough to feed 2 adults I think or at least 1 adult and 1 child . Very good blend of spices, acidity, sweet and wholesome. When I crave Bun Bo Hue - my first choice would be here. It comes out with a generous amount of veges and meat as well. Bookmarked this place due to the rave reviews. Was craving a rice dish, but decided to order their specialty Bun Bo Hue. Soup was blood red. You would think it is spicy, but it wasn't. Reminded me of the Chinese red chili paste (which is mainly color, not spice). Wasn't a fan. Although it was loaded with the meat, blood, and tendons of the dish it only had one chunk of Vietnamese ham and one pig foot. I made sure I finished my pig foot though (cuz that's my fav part of this dish) . Flavor was not what I am used to --definitely not mom's Bun Bo Hue. Seems like they use the red coloring to "mask" the actual flavoring of the dish. I was not a fan. Maybe I am being biased because I'm not a BBH fan to begin with. My fiance's pho dish tasted "different." He wasn't a fan either. He had to put a lot of hoisin sauce & sriracha to make it taste decent. Heard this place has new owners. This place is a scam! Do not eat there. I will not eat there anymore. They posted the Coronavirus free meal for Seniors. We called to confirm if the promotion is still available and the guy said yes. We place the promo deal over the phone for two seniors which is Com Ga (grilled chicken with rice). We also placed an order for two other items along with the promo deal. It is understood that these promo deals are great and helps the community so we want to support the local business owners by ordering extra food there. We got there to pay and pick up our promo deal. They said they ran out of the promo deal. What a scam. We told them we just called to place the order and your guy said it is still available. They say sorry. Then they had the audacity to ask if we still want to pay for the other order we placed. What a scam! We will never eat there and don't appreciate the SCAM of getting people to the restaurant. With the change in weather, I was craving noodle soup. I ordered the bun bo hue to go. The portion is generous with plenty of tasty meat. It hit the spot but wish the broth was more flavorful and spicy. Also really missing banana leaves instead of the boring cabbage they give you. AMAZING!!!!! So - I have never had Vietnamese food before. Was picking this up for a surprise date night in for my husband (who loves Vietnamese food). I ordered inside the restaurant, and the nice staff (maybe owner- I'm not sure) took my order, helped me out ordering because really I had no idea what I was ordering lol. Food was prepared reasonable time, packaged well, didn't spill. So, I get home and put it in fridge for when hubby gets off work.
