Today I went off script. I ordered the #29, Pho Suon Bo, pho with beef rib, and I am genuinely glad I did. The portion arrived looking like something the Jedi Council would have sent as a diplomatic gift. The rib meat was falling off the bone in the way that only happens when someone in that kitchen actually paid attention, tender, rich, and worth every credit of the $30 price tag. They bring the usual sides: bean sprouts, sliced jalapenos, lime wedges, and fresh basil. They also brought out a small plate and a knife to handle the rib, which was a thoughtful touch that saved me from an otherwise undignified situation. Once the meat was cut and ready I did what any serious pho person does and built my dipping sauce on the small plate: chili oil, a small amount of sriracha, and hoisin. I am told that this is the traditional way to approach pho. You preserve the integrity of the broth and dip your noodles, meat, and vegetables as you go. Dumping everything into the bowl is a valid personal choice, but it is not the way of the Jedi. My son stuck with the reliable Pho Special plus extra noodles at $16 plus $2 for the extra noodles, which remains the best value play on the menu for a bowl that genuinely satisfies. Neither of us left disappointed, which at Pho Tasty is essentially a guarantee at this point. Five stars, no hesitation. The #29 is a special occasion bowl. The house special is an every visit bowl. The server was very friendly from the time we walked into the place until the time we left out the door. She had answered our questions that we had about the different items on the menu. It is great to find a pho place near home. I think I have seen this place before but when you are passing by castleton mall you don't pay a lot of attention to the businesses facing the street unless they have a big sign or that's me at least. Anyway, I've been trying pho placs around town and this time we had the fortune to try this place. Nice and neat, they have a 2 page menu and a tea menu on a chalkboard. My girlfriend picked chicken pho which was good enough for both us since we were not that hungry, and also we had fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce and a couple of teas for 39 dlls. The portions were good. When we went back home and put all the ingredients together we had a very big soup. Flavorwise it was good, but I would say that it was missing some flavor to be extremely good; the chicken was a little dry but that may be just that day's produce. The spring rolls were good but a little too dry and the peanut sauce too thick. However, the TEA was awesoooome! Thai tea is one thing but adding coffee jelly beans it's another story try it on a milk base, and since we saw the smoothie part we mixed mango and passion fruit with some bobba balls that didn't last our ride back home. Went in with wife and two small kids yesterday for lunch. We ordered two bowls of pho and one egg roll. The food was mediocre and the soup was pretty bland. I was surprised by how little food I got in the "super bowl". I told the server that I need to get one bowl of Pho to take home when we are done eating.
