Since moving to Carmel, we have been looking for a new go-to pho spot. We were very pleased with Pho Real! This is probably the CLEANEST pho restaurant we have ever been to, including the bathroom. We were shocked (in a good way) to say the least lol. The broth was so yummy, aromatic, and flavorful. It wasn't as heavy as our last go-to pho place which I liked. The utensils were all cleaned properly, and the portions were generous and fairly priced. I liked that there was a substantial amount of noodles and meat. We both usually finish our pho but we still had a good amount of broth left over at the end. Service was friendly, quick, and efficient. Also, I never drink water from pho places because for some reason it usually tastes like the pipes haha but my boyfriend said his water tasted salty which was peculiar. I didn't have a sip myself, but hopefully this is just a one time thing and not a regular occurrence. We will definitely be back in the future! read more

Literally had not visited since my first visit. I was confused at the good reviews I read. But not anymore. This place is solid. Our lone server was efficient. It wasn't busy cause it was an odd time of day, thank goodness. I had the tom yum which was delicious. It was creamier than other versions I have had. The basil Chicken was on the verge of too salty but one of those dishes that grows on you and I was almost lapping it up at the end. Veggies were crisp. Chicken wasn't too dry. I ordered the Vegetarian Pho. It was pho-nomenal. The vegetables were varietal and abundant. The broth was flavorful and savory. The noodles were perfect. Everything was spot on. Sexy Beast ordered the Lao Jerky. He was disappointed. It was "okay". Perhaps the next dish he tries will be a better fit. We'll definitely try again. (I really liked the Pho). This is a hidden gem in a small, non-descript (to run-down) strip mall on the east side of College Ave. From the outside, it looks like it would be a take-out joint. I've been looking for a pho place close to the Carmel area and let me tell you this is the place to go if you good pho. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and the service was impeccable, they were quick and very attentive. I'm not sure if we were being served by the owner but it seemed like it and she went through the menu and explained everything to us. We broth for the pho was extremely flavorful and each table has a variety of hot sauces, chili oils and spicy seasonings which were all delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. I was driving to an event, and wanted a quick light dinner. Pho Real popped up, and I was able to call in a to-go order. They said it would be done in 10-15 min so that was perfect. The restaurant, is in a little strip mall. The food was hot and ready when I got there, which I appreciated. From the pun: Pho Real, I would have thought it was a Vietnamese Restaurant. They also have Thai and Laotian dishes. I thought the Vermicelli was a Vietnamese Bun Thit Noung dish. It is not what I was expecting. Instead of a fish sauce, there was a sweet and sour sauce. The protein was a bit salty for my taste. I could have used some additional veggies, the Vietnamese dish normally has pickled carrots and daikon. This dish did not. The mint was a little wilted, I could not tell if it was like that before or because it came in contact with the hot meat. The egg rolls were good, and I liked that it had fair amount of nuts. If I was in a pinch near by, I would stop by. But not something to go out of my way to try. read more

Coming down with a respiratory illness calls for ordering comforting soup (delivered, of course). This was my first time ordering from Pho Real. I ordered the veggie pho, shrimp tom yum, and tofu banh mi. Veggie pho was delicious and came with a generous amount of bok choy, broccoli, and carrots. The shrimp tom yum was my favorite since it had a kick of medium spice; however I wish it came with more shrimp since I only had 2 in my bowl. Pho Real is very close to are home and on our families daily commute but we strangely have only tried their food twice: once with a friend for a dine in experience and the second was this week for a carry out option. Perhaps it's the dark grey strip mall location? I'm unsure but I thought swinging by on our way home would be convenient. The restaurant itself is very clean, tables are set up with yummy sauces and arranged in many different configurations for multiple guests needs. I asked for a menu to order food to go, but I can't say the waitress was all that helpful or friendly. After reviewing our options, we settled on chicken fried rice, steamed dumplings, and an order of crab rangoons. I asked the waitress if I could make a substitution for one of their house specialties (omit red onion) and she stated "No, all of them are premade". That's an odd response considering she didn't even ask which one I was interested in or try to help me find something else to enjoy. Either way, what we did order did not disappoint. The fried rice was well seasoned and a large portion while the dumplings were wonderful & came with a delicious sauce. Maybe I will try this place again next time and hope for a bit better service. The location is less than ideal as it's kind of tucked off and in a weird strip mall, but I'm so glad my friend recommended us check this out! I don't care too much about the outward appearance but if this center got a little glow up, I feel like business would be even better! Anyway, I always get the rare beef pho and it is SO good. I'm always craving this when the weather starts to get chilly so we visit quite a bit. Usually for takeout but we have dined in a few times and the service has always been really great. My husband is more adventurous with the menu and has tried a few other things that he enjoyed, but I really only go for the pho and the crab Rangoons. Now that I'm writing this review, I think I want some pho for dinner!! read more

I have just left this restaurant is shock. - the waiter was friendly and had a great attitude. Never got a name but he was a taller fellow 6ft, short hair, and glasses. Had a good attitude but we noticed something he was doing after we received our food. He was cleaning up a table from across the store and we noticed he stood there for a minute before cleaning up the plates. This is when we realized that he was EATING THE LEFTOVERS from the customers that were just THERE. We were left in horror watching this gentleman eat leftover food. We felt instantly nauseated watching him chew food that other customers left behind. - the Pho my partner had was great according to her, but unfortunately there was a hair that was stuck on the inside of the bowl. My fried dish that had chicken and shrimp and vermicelli was alright. The noodles weren't cooked all the way and were chewy. The fried rolls had pork in it that tasted gamy, I cook a lot of fresh meats and the pork tasted very close to being expired. The boba that we received at the END of the meal was hot. So at the bottom of the boba the cup was hot and the top was cold with ice, so when you would drink from it you would get warm mango juice. Also, the boba and mango drink had separated liquids 5 minutes after we left the restaurant (I will include a picture). - we wanted to leave and get a refund but we gave the restaurant a chance and ultimately it failed us. I hope others see this post as a warning that if you come here you may have your leftover food eaten and hair in your plate of food. I hope the manager of the restaurant reaches out to me after this experience. read more

Soup season is here, so naturally I've been craving pho. I came here with a friend and I ordered the vegetarian pho and added tofu. The broth was SO flavorful, it had a very deep umami taste that I was worried would be lacking. It was delicious, though. The vegetables in the broth were all very tender and the tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It came with bean sprouts, jalapeños, and basil to garnish and, of course, hoisin and sriracha sauce. It was definitely the best pho that I've had in a long time. The portions are HUGE! Neither my friend nor I were able to finish while we were there and each took home leftovers. If you aren't paying attention you will drive right by it but those that know....know! If you like Pho, I think this is the best Pho in the city hands down. I will say they do get pretty busy because as I said, those that know...know. Vietnamese go-to's: soft spring rolls, pho, vermicelli bowls (ask for more sauce) Thai: green curry, red curry, pad Thai, pad kee mao Last several times I've found myself waiting long bouts for orders that I'm told would only be a few minutes. They also tend to cut corners pretty often on takeout. For example the soft spring rolls don't come with much peanut sauce. And if you get the well-done beef, which is supposed to be slow-cooked brisket, it's often the raw beef that gets quickly cooked. So the meat is still very chewy. Overall it's hit or miss depending on the day. I would definitely frequent the establishment more often if it was consistent. read more

Our foodie group came to Pho Real for dinner on a cold, chilly night last Thursday. This was the second time I visited the restaurant, so I was looking forward to some hot soup. The last time I was here, it was packed and took a while for our group to get some service, but it was not busy this time around. Our server greeted us right away and took our drink order. The ambiance is very unique and makes you feel right at home. I ordered the soft spring rolls and the khao piek soup. Both were fantastic and very fresh! The soup was incredible and perfect for a cold, winter night. The service this time was a step up from the last visit. The staff were on top of everything with our foodie group, and were very professional and friendly. They had all our orders correctly in order and we did not have to wait long for anything. This was an excellent meal and a glorious dining experience. Pho Real is a wonderful pho soup place and overall Thai food expertise. OK, so I had been missing the tofu vermicelli from another restaurant in town that sadly changed hands and by all accounts was not the same. I was so excited to see it on the menu here! It was quite good with lots of crispy tofu and a nice mix of the vermicelli and vegetables. The sauce was good too and the egg roll slices were a nice addition as well. Yay! Seriously, I haven't seen any other restaurants with this dish on the menu. I want to come back to try some other dishes as well, but will have to fight the urge to just get this again. Hot jasmine tea is served in little individual pots which is a nice touch. Service was good, and the ambiance is very casual and relaxed. Stopped in for lunch. I remember when this place first opened because I was working for a company that is housed in the business park across the street. Never got to visit as I quit that job soon after but git to try their food today and was not disappointed. I got Pud Bai Gaprow from the lunch menu and it came with soup or salad and I chose salad. The food did not disappoint. The dressing on the salad was so good I used some of my rice to catch all of it once the salad was done. Initially I was gonna get the green curry but the lady at the register said it comesnpretty spicy so I opted for something without spice. A coworker who has visited told me the spicy is intense so I'm glad I didn't get that. Will try the curry on a day when I don't have to work! All the food was good and I may visit again. I will say, there were no utensils in my to go bag which wasn't a big deal as we had those at work but it's typically something you expect to be included in your bag. I've ordered to-go a few times here and go because of location. The wait time is typically long. I've been told 20 minutes and food isn't ready for 45. Service can be a bit confusing because the wait staff is also the cashiering staff and you can be overlooked since they're so busy. I feel like they have more Laos and Thai food with a side of Vietnamese, so the name can be misleading. The pho is not the star here. The soup is very salty to me and the flavors are a bit strong. If you order the pho to-go, make sure the broth is steaming hot so the rare beef gets cooked. Also, I was a bit off-put this last time because there was something that looked like a lot of soup in white bucket towards the front of the restaurant. I'm not sure what that was. My favorite food is thai, my girlfriend's is pho. Safe to say we were both thrilled to find this little spot that specializes in Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian food. As others have mentioned, it is located in quite a run down strip mall around 96th and College. We ordered take out, but there were a couple tables of customers dining in when we went to pick it up. We ordered crab rangoons, chicken pad thai and chicken pho. The food was delicious! I've only had pho a couple of times, but the chicken pho was awesome. It had pulled chicken which paired well with the rice noodles and the broth was tasty! It was also a very large portion for just $9.99. The crab rangoons and chicken pad thai were also top notch. If I'm eating pho, it's probably because I feel like crap: I'm either sick or hungover (or both! YOLO, am I right?) Pho is my medicine -- it clears my sinuses, it hydrates me, it nourishes me. It's like a big brothy, noodly Vietnamese hug in a bowl. On the day that I visited Pho Real, I was feeling a touch under the weather, so I could not wait to get my face all up in a bowl of pho ga (chicken pho). Now, I've had some dang good pho in my life. I've grown up around Vietnamese communities in Southern California, so I've had the good stuff. The pho from Pho Real is some solidly good pho. I wouldn't hesitate to take a pho veteran to Pho Real, because the pho here is really good. My go-to at any pho restaurant is pho ga. Pho Real shreds the chicken into thin slices, which makes a lot of sense because then you can pick it up easily with your chopsticks when you're picking up the rice noodles. Also, they give you a lot of rice noodles. A lot! Almost too much! But they also give you a lot of chicken broth, so it all evens out. When you order a bowl of pho, you're getting a healthy bowl of pho. I got my pho to go. They separated the ingredients (rice noodles, bean sprouts, cilantro, green onion, Thai basil) from the broth in different containers. That was much appreciated, because it meant that the noodles were not overcooked during their journey from the restaurant to my home. When I got home, I dumped the ingredients into a big bowl, dumped the broth over everything, and then sprinkled the herbs over my pho. If I had to complain about anything, I would say that I wish they had given me more Thai basil and cilantro with my pho. I like a lot of herbs swimming in my soup. Next time, I might ask for more herbs. My husband got the tofu pho, which he devoured and loved. You should know, though, that if you order the tofu pho, it does not come with any vegetables, so you need to order those separately. Or you can do what we did, and order the vegetable pho (which has lots of vegetables) and add tofu. We also got an order of vegetable egg rolls. They are tiny -- about the length of a forefinger -- but you get six in one order. I'm glad I got them because it was something to eat in the car on the way back from picking up my to-go order. (The veggie egg rolls are super crunchy and tasty.) But I'm not sure I would get them again. The pho? Yes, I will be getting that again. read more

Based on other reviews I wasn't expecting this place to be as nice as it is. The strip mall where the restaurant is located is a bit past it's prime but the restaurant itself is quite nice inside and the service was spot on. I had Pho with Meatball and the broth and noodles were really good. Something about the texture of the meatball was not to my liking though. Would eat here again if I'm in the area. This is actually my second time having Pho Real but my first time dining in - unfortunately it may be my last. I walked in ahead of a guy, we were both seated but of course he was attended to by a server first. I asked for a water w/no ice - received a water w/ice, she quickly fixed it. I ordered a side salad, requesting it before my pho but it came with my pho. My server told me they didn't have disposable chop sticks and later brought me a pair. The beef slices in my pho looked questionable. I asked for a glass of Chardonnay - the worst Chardonnay I ever tasted in my life but it was $4.50, so I understand. My server didn't even ask me how my meal was, another server did. BUT the gentleman who walked in behind me, paid for my meal!
