Truly one of the best pho bowls I've ever had. After reading all the yelp reviews I decided on the rare beef bowl (which I never get, always pho ga for me) and it absolutely lives up to hype. The broth is full of a complexity of flavors, and the delicately sliced beef has the perfect chew. I'd suggest opting for the XL bowl if you're only getting one meat, I definitely wanted 2x the amount of beef. But the price point is fantastic for how incredible the food is, so order away! I'm so incredibly happy that Pho Sam FINALLY opened a location closer to my home - now I can come all the time instead of making the long drive to Lafayette from San Ramon. Their food is consistently amazing, and I'm genuinely obsessed with everything they make. The pho is rich, flavorful, and comforting every single time (photo). Their vermicelli rice noodle bowls are so fresh and perfectly balanced (my usual go to but sometimes you need a good bowl of pho), and the egg rolls and spring rolls are absolute must-haves - crispy, delicious, and packed with flavor. On top of the fantastic food, the owners are incredibly kind, and they always give me a little extra food, which just makes the experience that much better. It truly feels like they care about their customers. They even recognize me when I come in and are quick to offer a smile. They are so welcoming and friendly. New ownership.. last time I went with my two boys I ordered my usual xl stuff pho. When I got it, the portion. Was smaller than I normally would ordered. And the coconut drink I ordered they put it in the water cup not in a nice cup. The old owner would give us scissors for my two kids. And last thing I ordered egg with rice and they charge me $8. WTH!! They always charge me $4. It's too pricy.. never going back!!! read more

Pho Sam is the best pho in the area hands down. Long the owner and his parents have a great family feel. Served hot and fresh, the broth has a rich flavor and everytime I go in there the owner Long greets me with a big hello and some jokes. Upon walking in, there is an atmosphere of warmth. The pleasant gentleman at the counter greeted us and seated us quickly. He was very engaging and welcoming especially to my daughter whom I brought in several occasions. His wife is also very friendly and so pleasant. The food is EXCELLENT! I especially love the Vietnamese crepe that I can eat everyday! I've also tried the beef rice dishes and the beef combination soup are also very, very good. Do not go! NEW OWNERSHIP! The pho is not good. There is no taste and lacked seasoning. I went with my gf and we both looked at each other and were questioning whether there was any beef broth or was it just boiled water. Also, the portions are now smaller at an increased price with a lack of napkins and cleanliness. I ordered my regular combination pho and I noticed there wasn't any tendon in it too. They do not have a credit card system set up yet, so expect to pay via Venmo or Zelle or cash. I was a regular under the previous ownership. The owners were always funny and the food was consistently good! I always felt like the pho was handcrafted and homemade. Sad to see them leave and happy retirement to them! Small family run business in a random strip mall. There's not many tables inside, 6 in total and a couple tables outside. I ordered the medium #28 pho with well done meat and meatballs. The bowl was on the smaller end so if you're super hungry get the Large. the broth was decent for the area, the noodles felt a bit overcooked and not springy anymore, and the well done meat basically disintegrated into my broth and noodles lol there was legit nothing to pick up with my chopsticks. The meatballs were decent and they barely gave any veggies. Overall as a whole it wasn't bad but I think there could have been more meat and veggies for sure. NEW OWNERSHIP: the pho is not good. My husband and I have loved coming here over the past year, but we were shocked to walk in and find that the restaurant is under new ownership and a completely new establishment. The pho broth isn't great and the portions are now smaller at an increased price. I got a pretty severe migraine shortly after eating, which means the new menu contains MSG. I never had this issue before with eating at Pho Sam under the original owners. The new owner confirmed that the food is not from the same menu or Pho Sam's original recipes. They do not have a credit card system set up yet, so expect to pay via Venmo or Zelle only. We will really miss the original owners as they were always so kind and the pho delicious. 10/10. One of the best pho spots in the East Bay. Stumbled here for a pho craving on my way home and was pleasantly surprised to find this small restaurant tucked away serving such delicious food. I ordered a #21 raw beef and meatball pho. I also got fresh spring rolls and the Vietnamese crepe. The pho was rich without being heavy. The rolls and crepe were all fresh. The highlight of the meal was meeting the owner who was a sweetheart. Tuh took over the restaurant over a month ago. She made the small place have such a warm ambiance. Pho Sam is now under new management. The food is good, with generous portions of beef and chicken in the pho. While the beef pho could use a bit more depth of flavor, it's still tasty and definitely hits the spot on a cold day. I do miss Long, the previous owner, and his quirky personality, but the new owners and management are very sweet, welcoming, and accommodating. Overall, still an enjoyable experience. read more

New ownership - everything is different. Soup base is not as rich, portion is smaller, taste is not as good. They forgot the meatballs, the cut of meat is not the same. They gave me soy sauce instead of hausin sauce and chilli sauce. I had to use venmo or Zelle because they haven't set up the POS machine. Everything is wrong. I wondered if the new owner tried the original owner recipe. Overall - disappointed. I went to Pho Sam in the past 10 years and they took pride of the food that they served. If the new ownership not taking serious about the food that they are offering, most likely the customers would go somewhere else. I probably would not return again. God bless the original owner since they decided to retire, all my best to them! read more

Updated review after 8 years! One day I was having a memory lapse in looking for Pho Sam. I drove by Katy's Corner and saw a vacant shop next door and thought Pho Sam folded. A few weeks later I saw pictures from Yelp Friend George F. Pho Sam is alive and well - just remember its next to Fresh Million a few doors down from Katy's. Doh! The food is as good as I remember. The broth in the Pho is sweeter, less salty than many other places. The XL Combo Pho has enough noodles for two hungry people. A good portion of the meat is rare, but if you let it sit in the broth longer, it'll turn brown. The Grilled Pork and Egg Roll Bun (rice noodle dish) is also solid, with generous helping of noodles. I found the pork slightly overcooked but the flavors were still there. Definitely coming back. The place their menus under the glass on the tables and they have well over 50 items including rice plates, noodle plates, and sandwiches. read more

Finally a Vietnamese restaurant in this area where the broth is worth commending, My wife and I eat pho quite a bit and have had to go into Oakland for true flavor. This place is small but serves a flavorful pho broth. The owner says they start the broth at 3am to get it ready for the day. The toppings offered are fresh too. I'd still go into Oakland if I had the time because of variety of restaurants there but if I'm lazy, this will be my go-to. The owner is super nice too. He's trying to put his kids through college. Support this family-owned shop! They're good! read more

I'm so glad I found this place. It's hole-in-the-wall with great reviews. Service was quick. Friendly family-owned restaurant. The menus are under the glass on top of the table. We ordered vegetable spring rolls, grilled pork bun, a pork chop and prawn rice plate, and a grilled pork Banh Mi. They were all good. Next time I'm going to need to try the pho. Best pho and beef banh mi I've had anywhere in the USA. My dad always raves about this place and since we were in town we thought we'd check it out. The service is very friendly and the menu is very clear. The prices are great as well! The pho broth was so light and flavorful and the bahnmi was so fresh and filled with crispy veggies and perfectly seasoned and cooked beef. The portions were pretty generous. -grapefruit tea: thought it was pretty yummy! I also tried out the super fruit tea and i really liked it but personally found it to be a little too sweet. Not too much to displease though! I mixed some water and it was perfect for me. -tomato beef brisket noodle soup: i was surprised by how tender the meat was and how much they actually give you. If you love tomato soups as much as i do then it's definitely a great option! -takoyaki & lamb skewers: my sister had one dish from her combo order and i has my own but was able to try both! The lamb skewers were a bit smaller than expected but were flavorful with a fragrant aroma. The takoyaki came in about 5 balls and while they didn't include all typical takoyaki toppings it was still pretty good considering it came as a combo! Overall, i really loved coming by this place, my main concern is that it's actually in a pretty busy plaza so parking can be a little difficult during peak business hours. Otherwise it's located in a really great area relatively close to some shopping areas such as the Livermore outlets or even other smaller shopping plazas. Give this place a try if you're in the area and looking for a good eat without breaking the wallet!

The rich broth, tender bone-in ribs, and flavorful noodles made every bite memorable. I couldn't even finish the entire dish because I wanted to savore it slowly. The Pad See Ew was a silky, heavenly treat. The rice noodles were succulent, the vegetables were fresh, and everything was coated in a rich, flavorful sauce. If your driving through San Ramon, this is a MUST try. If you live in the area, lucky you!

I ordered the following, and of course it was way too much, but folks were excited to take home leftovers: - Popcorn Chicken - Pork chop egg fried rice - Chicken cutlet egg fried rice - Qua Bao - Veggie Chow Mein - Crispy Fried Tofu Sticks (with garlic dipping sauce and pickled cabbage) - Seasonal Veggie & Mushroom The popcorn chicken, egg fried rice, and veggie chow mein was the kids' favorites, along with the winter melon lemon tea, which David and Marysa threw in for being their first customer in Pleasant Hill. The adults enjoyed everything that was offered, and were excited to try many new dishes for the first time. Overall, the flavors were reminiscent of my memories of eating in Taiwan, and that was a huge plus! Communication was easy, and the day of the event, they sent pics of the food. Not only did they include delivery over $350, the food was brought in piping hot & they helped set up the food. The food absolutely delivers. The banh mi sandwiches are big, meaty and fresh with a baguette that's soft inside and perfectly crunchy outside. I've also had the grilled pork chop rice plate which came with generous portions and all the right sides. The pho is top-notch, flavorful broth, great temperature that doesn't burn your tongue and plenty of meat and beef balls. Service is fast and efficient, even during lunch hour and I was able to enjoy a full meal and get back to work on time. Checking out the menu, it's limited to Jajangmyeon, jjamppong, stir-fried noodles and rice, pork, chicken and shrimp dishes, mandu and Korean chicken wings. I love jajangmyeon and ordered it with extra noodles. The bowl of noodles came with a thick savory black bean sauce with some pork and vegetables. The taste was spot-on and it's comparable to my favorite Jajangmyeon that I get in the City. You get pickled radish with your food with refills. Now I can get closer to home. Jajangmyeon is a Korean-Chinese dish and they do it well here. Four of the five of us had the jajangmyeon and one at the vegetable stir-fried noodles. Everyone was happy with their food. There's good amount of seating here and the waitresses are friendly and service was fast. If you like jajangmyeon, check out Paik's. I'll be back when I have a craving. Gamsahamnida!

All the classic diner foods you'd find walking through Culture Street or by Myeongdong Station. Big portions, so you can share or just eat really well. For the most authentic experience, I recommend the Terra beer, which literally in every restaurant, diner, bar, etc in Korea. Also, they give you instant coffee packets with the check which is so very, very Korean.

I placed the order over the phone and asked for it without the skin since I'm not a fan of slimy chicken skin unless it's crispy. A few minutes later they called back to ask if I wanted bone in or boneless. I told them bone in was fine, I just didn't want the skin. When I got home and ate it, the food was okay overall. The chicken was cold, not like it had been sitting out, but more like it had just come out of the refrigerator. The peanuts were actually a nice touch and added good flavor and texture. I also liked the ginger sauce they poured over the chicken, but there really wasn't enough of it. I wish they gave extra on the side in a separate container. The side veggies were okay too. It came with cucumbers, quail eggs, and fungus. I ate everything except the fungus. It had a very unique flavor that I just couldn't get into. Overall it wasn't bad, but I've definitely had better Hainan chicken elsewhere, so I'm not sure if I'd come back again.
