#22 Rare Beef & Well Cooked Beef Noodle Soup - Pho Tai, Chin Nam
Abbe W.

My daughter and I were craving for pho and decided to try the neighborhood pho. We both thought the pho was just OK, very watered down and didn't have any in depth flavor. Service was great and quick. Staff were friendly. We even experienced 2 earthquakes while dining there.

My wife and I absolutely love this place! We first visited about two weeks ago, and since then we've already come back at least four times. Not only has the food been consistently great, but the staff/owners, Thu and Long, have been incredibly welcoming, kind, and caring. Honestly, we keep coming back because of the warm hospitality and the quality and consistency of the food. I learned from Thu and Long that they've only been operating for about 3-4 months. With their wonderful customer service and really good food, I have full confidence they'll revive this establishment. Also, shoutout to Thu for recommending the Bánh xèo! It's crispy, golden, and filled with shrimp and bean sprouts, and served with lettuce, herbs, and an amazing dipping sauce. It's now our favorite thing to order every time we visit. I highly recommend giving it a try! This place deserves way more attention. Until then, my wife and I will keep enjoying our nice quiet dinners here.

I have been eating here for a few months and it was good This time however with the new owners was an exceptional experience! They have been here for about two months. The broth has been kicked up several notches; the addition of Seared Garlic Rare Beef hit it home for me They have added several fresh juices that I have to try next time Service was good and the place is really clean I highly recommend this restaurant under the new owners!

Pho Sam has new ownership. The new ownership has remodeled the interior with some new settees, wall decorations and service counter. The menu has some new items such as BBH. Been twice once for take out once dining in. The pho is good but less meat toppings compared to before. There is a happy hour discount. Right now free soda or Thai tea with your pho.

Beef ,Shrimp, egg roll, rice, salad, peanut, also came with soup.

Just moved here from the Peninsula, where Vietnamese restaurants are everywhere. I was craving a solid spot and did some research around Danville/San Ramon. After checking photos and reviews, Pho Sam stood out as the clear winner. My first visit was all about the pho - the broth was rich and flavorful, the presentation gorgeous, and it tasted every bit as amazing as it looked! On my second trip, I went for the beef and shrimp rice plate, and wow - beautiful plating, high-quality beef (honestly better than my go-to spot back in San Mateo), and packed with flavor. The staff and owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming both times-it really feels like a family-run gem. BONUS: You get a free Thai tea or soft drink with your meal. I had Thai tea both visits, and it's spot-on delicious. They also have happy hour specials, which is a nice touch. Next I want to try their Vietnamese sandwich and I can't wait! If you're in the Danville area and want authentic, tasty pho or any Vietnamese plate, Pho Sam is hands-down the place to go. Highly recommend - you won't be disappointed!

I met the new owner. Wow this was worth every penny! Service was fast, friendly, and welcoming, and the restaurant itself was clean and modern. From the first bite to the last sip of broth, everything was outstanding. I'll be back! Please go and try it!

Pho Sam is still one of the better pho joints in the Tri-Valley area. After a multi-year hiatus, my family and I came here for dinner on 11/30/2024 after shopping nearby. It was moderately busy when we walked in at 5:15pm. Since it was a cold evening, we opted to sit at the table closest to the cash register in the back. I was happy to see the same owner and his family running the operation. The interior was clean and had gone through an upgrade. There was a TV showing a college football game. The menu featured a wide array of typical Vietnamese fare found in any pho restaurant. We got three bowls of the #18 Combination Noodle Soup (2XL and 1L), plus some egg rolls and spring rolls to share. Our food took a while to come out because they were dealing with several large takeout orders. The two appetizers were decent, and the portions were commensurate with the price. The Combination Noodle Soup (pho dac biet) was very good. The broth was clear and had a nice hint of sweetness in it. Meat toppings were plentiful. The owner was friendly and the service we received was good. The total, with a tip, was about $72. We all thought it was worth it. If you want a good bowl of pho in the Tri-Valley area, keep this place in mind. I don't think you will be disappointed. 4 solid stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on site. - Major credit cards accepted. Do look over your check at the end. The owner accidentally added an extra item to our check.

i will highlight the hospitality at this location, as the staff was welcoming and immediately offered menu i got their Medium Chicken & Seafood Pho. and their 5 pc wings. i got takeout, but their inside seating is nice, with some more seats outside. ambiance is quiet and chill here in this San Ramon area pho was elite, 5 stars: it was delicious, generous with proteins and all condiments and veggies provided. 5 piece wings, crispy and juicy, paired with a sweet sauce! thx, Sam

Service was good. Came for lunch. Banh Xeo was not as crispy as I would like (middle was a bit soggy), but the flavor was good. Asked for extra lettuce. Very filling. Nice and clean. Decor was updated. Hard to find Banh Xeo in San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek, and Concord areas. Will be back to try the pho

Sauteed Lemongrass Chicken, Nice and a little spicy, very fresh tasting!

I got the #17 pho, and shrimp appetizer, and spring rolls. Everything was absolutely delicious and amazing. One of my favorite spots! Great service too! Must try!

When it comes to PHO it's all about the broth. I am impressed with the broth. The new owners were nice and they are offering a free Thai tea with your meal. The ambience was nice plenty of parking and the price was decent.

#54, bun thit nuong cha gio
J C.

I cannot recommend the Bún Thịt Nướng Chả Giò (#54). The dish was poor, primarily due to the stale-tasting grilled pork. Not even sure how that is even possible. Maybe it's the taste of freezer burn? Anyway, the accompanying egg roll (chả giò) was tiny and severely under filled. Does not match photo on the menu. I've noted a pattern here, as the phở I had about a year ago also lacked authentic flavor. I hope they improve on their food quality. The noodle was good.

The waiters were so fun and helpful with the menu. We started off with some delicious appetizers of imperial rolls and barbecue ribs. I ordered the water lily cocktail, which was very delicious and has since sparked a new personal interest in milk-washed spirits. Since the restaurant was family dining style we just kept ordering and shared everything! We tried the roasted duck, vermicelli crab noodles, the asparagus side dish, pork and shrimp dumplings, and shaking beef with jasmine rice. Everything was so yummy! We ordered all of the desserts to try. The peanut butter pie is a must order!!! I also had a cup of coffee with dessert and it was perfection!

We arrived for an early dinner around 5 PM, full of nostalgia and high expectations...and left with very mixed feelings. We started with drinks and three appetizers to share. The pineapple spritzer was a great way to kick things off...refreshing, well-balanced, and not sweet which I appreciate. Our apps: - Crispy Shrimp and Pork Imperial Eggrolls: we re-ordered this. Tasty enough, but the portion size for the price was genuinely disappointing. You're getting a few small bites and not much else. - Shrimp and Chive Pan Fried Dumplings: The biggest letdown of the night. The dough on the bottom was thick and gummy, and the filling was completely bland.....no seasoning, no excitement. Pass. - Hoisin Barbecue Pork Ribs: The best of the three in terms of portion, but brace yourself -- these are an absolute mess to eat. I would not order these again. With mixed feelings about the food, we jumped straight to dessert, which is where the meal was redeemed. The burnt Basque cheesecake came topped with diced caramel apples and crispy strudel- one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Overall, this visit left us a little deflated. The appetizers underdelivered for the price, and it stings a bit on a sentimental occasion. That said, I'm still curious about their entrées. I have my eye on the whole catfish or their lunchtime pho.

My bf and I came an hour before closing and it was packed, but were able to get a seat as soon as we walked in. They have plenty of seating for large groups or smaller parties. The food here never disappoints! Ordered the large rare beef pho with extra beef on the side, the shrimp spring rolls and the fried potstickers. The pho is the best I've ever had. The broth is flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The soup is packed with meat and noodles. The spring rolls are fresh, the ingredients they use really make a difference in quality of the food. The fried potstickers are crunchy and delicious and the sauce they paired it with was sweet and balanced the flavor of the potstickers. Even though it was busy, the kitchen was quick and we had our food within minutes of ordering. This place has so much more than pho, I'll be back to try more from their extensive menu!
