Updates review for Pho Sam: As of my review, Pho Sam has changed ownership and has completely remodeled the restaurant to make it more trendy and welcoming. The menu now includes a bunch of fruity/sweet drinks too. We came here several times for lunch and are huge fans of their grilled meat dishes: The Vermicelli dishes are excellent - meaty, juicy chicken or thinly-sliced, savory grilled pork. Both were great. I like the ratio of veggies, noodles, to meat and appreciate the peanuts for added crunch. The pork chop rice is also pretty good, and comes with cooked veggies. A great dish for sharing. They do have a single, small but clean bathroom in the back, though you'll need to walk through the kitchen. 5 stars. San Ramon is really upping its meat-centric restaurant choices with Chingu, Pho Sam, and Char House all in the same plaza.

Still a great place for Vietnamese food! Clean. I like the menus. They're thick boards on the table, easy to read, and they're not sticky. Stopped by quickly to pick up 2 grilled pork banh mi and decided to try the banh xeo. Service is lovely as usual. I ordered to go and I love that the owner asked if I wanted some water while I waited. I love that they marked "not spicy" on one of the banh mi to differentiate which sandwich was which. Banh xeo was packed with holes on the corners of the container to remain crispy. It was so good and was still crispy when I got home. Thank you!!

I have been regularly patronizing Pho Sam since the ownership change a few months ago. I am so impressed by its extensive and authentic menu. The owner also owns another location with a long history in Oakland. This is by far the best Vietnamese restaurant in the Tri-Valley area.

My daughter and I were craving for pho and decided to try the neighborhood pho. We both thought the pho was just OK, very watered down and didn't have any in depth flavor. Service was great and quick. Staff were friendly. We even experienced 2 earthquakes while dining there.

My wife and I absolutely love this place! We first visited about two weeks ago, and since then we've already come back at least four times. Not only has the food been consistently great, but the staff/owners, Thu and Long, have been incredibly welcoming, kind, and caring. Honestly, we keep coming back because of the warm hospitality and the quality and consistency of the food. I learned from Thu and Long that they've only been operating for about 3-4 months. With their wonderful customer service and really good food, I have full confidence they'll revive this establishment. Also, shoutout to Thu for recommending the Bánh xèo! It's crispy, golden, and filled with shrimp and bean sprouts, and served with lettuce, herbs, and an amazing dipping sauce. It's now our favorite thing to order every time we visit. I highly recommend giving it a try! This place deserves way more attention. Until then, my wife and I will keep enjoying our nice quiet dinners here.

This place is amazing! Fresh, delicious food. Large portions. The Pho with the most perfect spicy house made chili oil sauce is a must. Quaint space. Super friendly service! Go! You will be happy.

I have been eating here for a few months and it was good This time however with the new owners was an exceptional experience! They have been here for about two months. The broth has been kicked up several notches; the addition of Seared Garlic Rare Beef hit it home for me They have added several fresh juices that I have to try next time Service was good and the place is really clean I highly recommend this restaurant under the new owners!

Pho Sam has new ownership. The new ownership has remodeled the interior with some new settees, wall decorations and service counter. The menu has some new items such as BBH. Been twice once for take out once dining in. The pho is good but less meat toppings compared to before. There is a happy hour discount. Right now free soda or Thai tea with your pho.

Pho Sam is still one of the better pho joints in the Tri-Valley area. After a multi-year hiatus, my family and I came here for dinner on 11/30/2024 after shopping nearby. It was moderately busy when we walked in at 5:15pm. Since it was a cold evening, we opted to sit at the table closest to the cash register in the back. I was happy to see the same owner and his family running the operation. The interior was clean and had gone through an upgrade. There was a TV showing a college football game. The menu featured a wide array of typical Vietnamese fare found in any pho restaurant. We got three bowls of the #18 Combination Noodle Soup (2XL and 1L), plus some egg rolls and spring rolls to share. Our food took a while to come out because they were dealing with several large takeout orders. The two appetizers were decent, and the portions were commensurate with the price. The Combination Noodle Soup (pho dac biet) was very good. The broth was clear and had a nice hint of sweetness in it. Meat toppings were plentiful. The owner was friendly and the service we received was good. The total, with a tip, was about $72. We all thought it was worth it. If you want a good bowl of pho in the Tri-Valley area, keep this place in mind. I don't think you will be disappointed. 4 solid stars. BONUS MATERIAL: - Ample parking on site. - Major credit cards accepted. Do look over your check at the end. The owner accidentally added an extra item to our check.

This place was exactly what we needed when we were feeling under the weather. The Beef broth was delicious and had favor! The service was very on point, always had a smile and completed task quickly. The place was also very nice & clean. The overall aesthetic was pleasing & my son even loved the art on the walls. We just moved to the area and this placed for sure reminded us of home. We will forsure be returning!! We got a bunch of stuff from rice plates, beef noodles soup, vermicelli bowl, & shrimp appetizer. I would order it all again! & must try their chill oil! Chefs kiss!!

i will highlight the hospitality at this location, as the staff was welcoming and immediately offered menu i got their Medium Chicken & Seafood Pho. and their 5 pc wings. i got takeout, but their inside seating is nice, with some more seats outside. ambiance is quiet and chill here in this San Ramon area pho was elite, 5 stars: it was delicious, generous with proteins and all condiments and veggies provided. 5 piece wings, crispy and juicy, paired with a sweet sauce! thx, Sam

Ordered takeout since we were so tired after tennis. It was nice that they have a seperate door to pick up take out so while I waited on the curbside DD ran into pick up. Easy peasy. When we got home we immediately inhaled it. Loved how they separated the filling from the udon and packed the broth separately. Poached egg was creamy still and blended well with the beef and noodles. We came back again yesterday but wanted to actually dine in. There were no longer long lines from when we last dined in years ago. The line went smoothly and the lady was quick and efficient to take our orders and even gathered Hubs' take out rice bowl for later. The gal at the pick up windown was also proficient as her job and even telling me my clams and ginger udon had just ran out so she gave me a number for my table. The tempura station was always one of my favorites. They just ran out of imitation crab but we snagged the last shrimp tempura. Also got a sweet potato and my favorite, pumpkin . 4/5 crunchy not too oily and naturally sweet. No sauce needed We found a table right away which was wiped clean. DD was half way through her udon when mine barely arrived. After the first sip of broth, it quickly reminded me of why we haven't been back in so long. Warm soup vs piping hot. That's why. Fresh cooked clams and butter ginger melted into the broth was a nice change from the usual. The taste was great and flavorful. Clams were blanched nicely with a few unopened shells that I didn't eat. There was also a few with some sand inside which was expected for a fast foodie style place where clam is ordered. 3.5/5 The other downside from the overall dish for both of us was the over sprinkling of green onions. It left a literal bad taste in both our mouths. Clean restrooms. Overall, 3.5

It was early dinner time on a Friday evening and it wasn't overly crowded. All 6 of us got different items and overall it's a matter of preference for what kind of broth and protein you'd like that depicts the meal, the toppings are generally all the same. Consider this place to almost be a "make your own ramen" type of thing, in that you're given a platter of toppings to add to your bowl of steaming hot broth, mix it and let it sit, then voila! The service was really good, they are super on top of cleaning and serving so my food came out in about 15-20 minutes. I got the combo with an appetizer, drink, and noodle soup. The portions were pretty generous. -grapefruit tea: thought it was pretty yummy! I also tried out the super fruit tea and i really liked it but personally found it to be a little too sweet. Not too much to displease though! I mixed some water and it was perfect for me. -tomato beef brisket noodle soup: i was surprised by how tender the meat was and how much they actually give you. If you love tomato soups as much as i do then it's definitely a great option! -takoyaki & lamb skewers: my sister had one dish from her combo order and i has my own but was able to try both! The lamb skewers were a bit smaller than expected but were flavorful with a fragrant aroma. The takoyaki came in about 5 balls and while they didn't include all typical takoyaki toppings it was still pretty good considering it came as a combo! Overall, i really loved coming by this place, my main concern is that it's actually in a pretty busy plaza so parking can be a little difficult during peak business hours. Otherwise it's located in a really great area relatively close to some shopping areas such as the Livermore outlets or even other smaller shopping plazas. Give this place a try if you're in the area and looking for a good eat without breaking the wallet!

Overall, I really enjoyed the food here. The chicken rice was aromatic, flavorful and had a really nice texture to it. The chicken is tender and the thin outer skin has a gelatinous quality to it like a well-prepared Hainanese chicken. Honestly I had no notes on this dish. Hard to improve. I generally avoid roast duck at restaurants because of how fatty it is, but the one here was surprisingly good. The chicken was cold, not like it had been sitting out, but more like it had just come out of the refrigerator. The peanuts were actually a nice touch and added good flavor and texture. I also liked the ginger sauce they poured over the chicken, but there really wasn't enough of it. I wish they gave extra on the side in a separate container. The side veggies were okay too.
