While coming home from Niagara Falls in Canada, we stopped by this hidden gem of a restaurant in Buffalo, NY before our flight. Best food I've had in Buffalo, and also, one of the only places to get bubble tea. Drinks - Their bubble tea and drink menu is surprisingly large. My party ordered Vietnamese Iced Coffee and I ordered the Burmese Milk Tea with Bubbles and they came in long cylindrical containers! How unique and hipster-esque! The Vietnamese Iced Coffee was not as strong as it usually is in some other places but I love that and the Burmese Milk Tea was really good and flavorful. Food - We all ordered the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (Bun Bo Hue) because of our craving and while it wasn't the best spicy beef noodle soup I ever had, it was definitely not bad, especially around the Buffalo, NY area. If I were to come back to Buffalo, NY I would probably come back and I would recommend anyone visiting to stop by if you're craving bubble tea or Vietnamese food! read more

Wow...so glad I found this place on Yelp. It was such a good find. The area surrounding this restaurant is unimpressive but the interior of the location makes up for it. It is nicely decorated with exotic fish tanks and beautiful serene background music. The menu has many options and it's extremely difficult to pick just one thing. My friend and I opted to split the roasted pork bahn mi & fresh spring roll as an appetizer and I ordered a veggie pho and my friend ordered a pad Thai. We were both so happy with our choices. The broth in my pho was so delicious that I contemplated not adding the basil, bean sprouts and lime condiments. I did eventually and it was even better still. My friends shrimp pad Thai was insanely delicious and it was a huge portion for only $13. Such a bargain. I sincerely wish I could relocate this restaurant to Miami. I would recommend this to everyone. read more

Really good atmosphere. Everything is clean and the design is very modern. The food here is, of course, delicious. If you want authentic Vietnamese cuisine, this is the place to go. Don't leave here without dessert. You can really experience the cuisine of Vietnam all in one trip to this restaurant. Will come again! :) read more

I haven't had a authentic Thai food so far as I have never been to Thailand. but this place gives you that authentic feel with respect to food. We ordered the following items: Thai Shrimp Papaya salad - 10/10 was totally yummy with lots of flavors, kept me and my wife guessing them. Sweet and Sour Shrimp and Fish Cake -5/10 not a great dish for me at least. because it was totally sweet and sour part was almost invisible to my senses. Pad Thai with Fried Fish - 8/10 it was one of different Pad Thais I have had so far. The taste was something new to my senses which I couldn't co relate to any of the pad thais i have had before., The fried fish looked very tempting but it was hard and not up to its look. I would recommend going with shrimps. But the noodle part was delicious. Well with my first visit I was able only these 3 dishes, but the place looks promising for future visits. There is lot of seafood dishes and specialties the restaurant offer which I am planning to try in my next visits . read more

Pho Lantern is a fantastic gem on the West Side of Buffalo serving too-die-for Vietnamese food and especially their pho. If you haven't gone yet, you are missing out! If you like Vietnamese and/or Asian food, or keep an open mind while having never tried it, go check it out! Lunch and dinner (or both) are a perfect time to enjoy this tasty up and coming restaurant! read more

A hidden gem of Buffalo. This place has excellent, delicious Vietnamese and Thai food. It's a perfect spot for a downtown lunch. Even though it may be a few minutes away from most people's offices, it's a breeze to park and the service is fast. It's also usually not very crowded and you're seated right away. They have wonderful sandwiches that are all around $5 and the soups are out of this world. read more

Hands down the best Vietnamese place in Buffalo. I love their pho combination. They also have one of the tastiest Banh Mi's I've had. Their mango smoothies are also superb. Update::: I agree with your reviews about the restaurant but I have to disagree with you on the "hidden" situation. As a new resident of Buffalo I dislike how "click-y" this town is about their restaurants. No one wants to Yelp or recommend things. It always feels as if I have to be special to know the good places and that's just messed up. Also this town is infested with bars and junk food, if you don't share the international, smaller "mom-pop" restaurants then we will never have more of it! It's time for Buffalo to stop trying to hide all the good spots and just post them everywhere. I'm tired of having to look through so many apps to find one good place. Which is the reason why I think buffalo has shitty food... Which you all will disagree but don't want to share any of the good places. Places like Niagara Seafood need to be shared so the restaurant can have business and can continue to provide excellent service and food. If you keep a place like NS hidden it'll go out of business and we all lose in the end. The more business ONE Vietnamese restaurant does could lead to more restaurants opening up. Which means more opportunities to have other great restaurants not just one... Ok I'm out. read more

First off, this review is written by a Vietnamese about a Vietnamese restaurant so you know how authentic this place is. Secondly, I'm a foodie and I love to cook so it definitely takes some hard work in order for me to like the food at any place. I think I probably have tried almost all Vietnamese items on the menu. Just like other Vietnamese joints in town (except Pho 99), the menu has Thai food as well. I bet they are good too but unfortunately I can't say anything since I have not tried any. I come to Niagara Seafood for Vietnamese food. First must-try item here is: Banh Mi, (the famous Vietnamese sandwich). It's called Banh Mi, not Bahn Mi - wrong spelling that I have seen in a lot of Buffalo popular places (i.e Cole's on Elmwood). Art Voice ranked Niagara Seafood's Banh Mi best sandwich in Buffalo in 2013. There are different kinds for you to pick but my favorites are grilled pork, cold cut and fish cake. The bread is good, the meat is great, the vegetables are fantastic, the sauce is amazing. Banh mi is perfect for lunch or an appetizer for dinner. Second one: Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup). I can eat this everyday. Even though I can make Bun Bo Hue tasty at home, I like theirs a lot too. Third one: Pho (Beef Noodle Soup), of course. I'd say their Pho is one of the best in town. Other items I like are chicken wings (try the Asian BBQ), Vietnamese dumplings (banh bot loc), deep-fried quails (cut chien bo), mango salad, Vietnamese egg rolls, clams in special sauce, noodles with grilled pork, BBQ cured pork (bun thit nuong, bun nem nuong ) and banh cuon. I also love Che Ba Mau (tri-color dessert) here. They also have a huge selections for real-fruit juices and smoothies. Plus they do serve beer and wine. The restaurant has recently been remodeled to a nicer look with relaxing fish tanks, dim lights for cozy ambiance and comfortable seatings. The owners (Mike & Chuyen) are the nicest and most pleasant people on earth. My fiancé & I have always had wonderful time whenever we came here for lunch, dinner or take-out. What to make this place even more awesome? I wish they added more Vietnamese items that you can't find in any other fellow restaurants in town such as: bê thui (roasted veal), banh uot thit nuong (grilled pork spring rolls with special wraps) or cha.o to^m. Those for sure will be hits. To sum up, this place is a gem. With their huge menu of Vietnamese & Thai food, there is always something for you to enjoy and write home about. read more

Great food! So unexpected and my husband wanted to go somewhere else.. The vermicelli salad was clean tasty and delicious. The bun bue hue was not oily, spicy and meaty. I asked for yellow egg noodles which I prefer, would of been better with the original noodle. Overall great food and servers - a hidden gem in Buffalo ! read more

Niagara Seafood is my friend. Mostly, Niagara Seafood is my banh mi friend, as it is the only place around Buffalo I can cheaply buy a crispy french baguette filled with fried tofu and pickled veggies. Or whole clams in white sauce that I can dip bread into. From the first time I laid taste buds on this joint I knew it would be love. I took my father here when he visited from Seattle because it was one of the few places I knew that could execute tripe dishes with an elegant pizazz; using simple broths and clever ingredients to combine each texture into one beautiful bowl of soup. He was wowed, I was happy to share and we both left with the satisfaction one can only get from paying $20 and having their tummies feel like bursting. Really, though, if I have any advice for Niagara it is this: Go in. Be adventurous! No regrets. read more

I greatly enjoyed my first International Supper Club at this unsuspecting-looking Westside joint; especially the company of the many friendly Yelpers who made my friends and I feel right at home. Free parking on the side street was a plus, easy to find, a mere 10 minutes down Niagara from my house in Black Rock. Ambiance - Clean, simple space, lined with coolers and shelves displaying their market wares. Cool, semi-industrial seating (I wouldn't suggest this for a large group without significant advanced notice, they have very limited seating, mostly very small tables). After the many Asian restaurants I've been in that think decorating with worn out paper Chinese New Year decor looks awesome, this was somewhat refreshing. Service - Service, especially considering the large party Yelp brought in, was very good. Fast, attentive, super friendly. The gentleman who rang us out (possibly the owner?) was very friendly as well and very interested in everyone's take on their food. Food - I'm no expert in Vietnamese (I've only had it once before at 99 Fast Food) but I was very pleased. My starter, shrimp and pork dumplings, featured an outside very similar to raw eggroll wrappers but cooked. It was chewy, in a good way, and translucent. Excellent dipped in the fish sauce and chili condiment provided. The portions were GIGANTIC, particularly the soup. The small was bigger than a large most places; my large soup was like a wash basin. I got a seafood noodle variety featuring fat & tender udon-like noodles, complexly seasoned fish broth, a variety of seafood, along with what I believe were hard boiled whole quail eggs (delish, by the way!). I took more than half home. My friend's "meatball noodle" dish featured a chicken breast shaped mystery meat, sliced up into strips. It tasted like a sweet polish sausage crossed with pork dumpling filling. Quite tasty. Drink - I just can't say enough about how AWESOME the coconut bubble tea is here; the flavor, the texture, the yummy pearls. It was incredibly refreshing and sweet without being overpowering. The coconut flavor tasted very natural, not artificial. The only downfall was the strange use of very tiny ice cubes. These, sadly, block a lot of the pearls from coming up the straw and were themselves small enough to fit up the straw. My only complaint about the entire experience, aside from the lack of ventilation. Even a few large fans would be nice in here, a la Suzy Q's, in the absence of AC. read more

Favourite go to place for Asian food in the area. Actually authentic instead of just greasy. I cannot speak for their seafood dishes as I never ordered them, but I always enjoyed their noodle dishes. Prices are not super cheap but reasonable. The place is not fancy but I would definitely recommend it. read more

Service was great and the food was quick! Food Serving was good, had some leftovers to go . The variety of veggies in my dish was excellent! Had stir fry in a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the past and the taste of this was just okay. Could've been better if my dish wasn't sweet. We also ordered bahn mi and it was good. Ambiance was awesome, love their aquariums and the soft music playing in the background. Overall it was a good experience but we miss our Vietnamese restaurants back home in Chicago! read more

Probably my favorite spot for vietnamese food. I know everyone has differing opinions, but I think the pho here is the best in the city. The Bahn mi is also really good here - and I'll say this with a caveat that if you're looking for some fancy sandwich with organic grassfed sous vide pork belly, this isn't the place for that. The Bahn mi here is what I remember getting on the streets of Nah Trang - a street food on freshly baked baguette with less than stellar cuts of meats with fresh and pickled vegetables to go with it... all without breaking the bank. Very authentic, cheaply priced food with lovely touches of southeastern Asian vegetable sculptures - I always eat my radish roses... and you should too! Bubble tea is also OK - but not really the best. Coffee is good! Plus a couple of stars for being clean and bright! read more

First things first, I have to give a huge shout out to our local concierge, consigliere, caretaker, curator, counselor, commissioner, chowkidar, clerk, caretaker (I can't remember) or whatever official title Yelp decided to bestow upon her: Ryan W. for the heads up on the Bahn Mi at Niagara Seafood. Ryan actually read my review of Pho 99 where I complained that Buffalo has no restaurant which actually serves Bahn Mi, i.e. the GREATEST SANDWICH IN THE WORLD (said in a booming voice). Well my prayers have been answered in the form of Niagara Seafood. I went last night for dinner and I absolutely loved this place. A Vietnamese restaurant located in a fish market located in a dangerous neighborhood...what's not to love?? The place is very large inside, and unlike any other Asian fish market I have every been to it did not stink (you know what I'm taking about...I love Chinatown but it smells...don't grumble you're thinking it too). So I knew going in I was ordering the Bahn Mi sandwich but what magic little gem should I pluck to accompany one of my favorite sandwiches of all time?? I decided on the Jackfruit shake and an order of snails in coconut sauce. Well needless to say the meal was absolutely remarkable!! The Bahn Mi sandwich was everything I had hoped for: Crusty bread, a spicy mayo-esque concoction, assorted pickled veg, cilantro and two types of porkish cold cuts. I consider myself pretty well versed in foods around the world, but I can not tell you what the pork was...and neither could the owner. As best I could gather the top layer resembled a pork head cheese, layered with fat and bits of juicy meat...it was beautiful. The bottom layer resembled more of a pressed pork...much like the meatballs in the pho, only in layer form. Together this sandwich was magic and total food porn. Oh I will be back to have more...you can count on it. I posted a picture so you could enjoy it too. My generosity knows no bounds...you can thank me later. The Jackfruit shake was excellent and refreshing and the snails were really exceptional and a rare find in these parts. These are the small snails...as opposed to the behemoth escargot many are familiar with (the Abruzzesse (my people) call them babaluci). Rather ingeniously, they cut the tops off of the snails so you can suck them out, instead of digging around with a pin like the Italians around town are known to do with their babaluci. This technique makes the snails much easier to eat and it is a way more visceral eating experience. As a caveat for newbies, the snails have a thin membrane they use to control the flow of things in and out of the shell. It is edible but like a bay leaf something you do not want to eat as it has an uncomfortable mouth feel, I just spit it out. That means this is not a real treat to enjoy with a date unless you are really comfortable together. However, if you can get over that, the coconut sauce was wonderful and rich with large stalks of sautéed basil (very similar to a Thai green curry only made stickier with the snails...much like the addition of pigs feet or bone marrow to a sauce). As for the rest of the menu there are tons of wonderful options that I can not wait to go back and explore, including a plethora of seafoods. Then even have like five different types of fish sandwiches...you heard me five different types of fish sandwiches. Thats one for every day of the work week. On the way out I did a little shopping around the market and picked up some Hoison Sauce for the house and a big bag of Durian candies. There is a seven year old at my house that I can not wait to torture with the Durian...I am savoring that moment (Evil laugh Evil laugh)! Niagara Seafood is yet another hidden gem and as such it has been added to my list of the same name. (Shameless Plug) Check it out when you get a chance you will not be let down! read more

Like Pho 99 on Bailey, Niagara Seafood is a haven of Viet food in the unlikeliest of places. Their space is large enough to serve as an Asian supermarket, but they keep all their food in coolers up against the wall leaving plenty of space for their 4 sit down tables and just plenty of awkward free space. Lots of future potential here. I went w/ the grilled pork over vermicelli for $7.50. This was not the typical thin cut BBQ pork but a thick bone-in chunk of heavily seasoned pork. Flavor was exceptional and went well with the light vermicelli full of cilantro and mint flavor. I also ordered some egg rolls w/o realizing that there was also a cut-up egg roll in the vermicelli. They were inconsistently cooked as some were soggy so I'd go w/ the spring roll for next time. Also we got some Viet-style chicken wings which were pretty good (35 cents on Fri's). Their banh mi is actually not bad either - good baguette and stuffed w/ the usual suspects. A little steep though at $4.50. The boba is mediocre - about as good as Tea Leaf Cafe's. Too much on the sweet side and boba not cooked all the way through. In all, Niagara Seafood is every bit as good as 99 and possibly a bit more authentic. They have specials every day of the week, boba, Viet coffee, and Thai iced tea. I'll be back for more! also FYI, there's a restaurant.com coupon for dinner, minimum purchase $40 excluding groceries. read more

This is the craziest place! We can't believe that it exists right here in Buffalo. Niagara Seafood is a market and restaurant. But the restaurant part of the establishment isn't an afterthought tucked behind rows of groceries and shellfish. Instead, it occupies a large portion of the bright and open space. And there was no scent of seafood in the store, which is always a good sign! Everything appeared to be fresh and of high quality. On top of each table you will find soup spoons, chopsticks, and several Vietnamese condiments. You can find the perfect beverage to accompany your meal in the refrigerated section of the store. We highly recommend the Thai iced tea. You can also order bubble tea at the counter. There are a number of Vietnamese favorites on the menu. We decided to try the seafood noodle soup given that the restaurant's specialty is seafood. The broth was flavorful and aromatic. You can increase the heat with the roasted chili sauce on the table. The soup contained an array of seafood, mushrooms, cilantro, and soft boiled quail eggs. The Vietnamese fried rice was also very good and a fantastic baby pleaser! There is so much on the menu that we are eager to try. We will most certainly be back. We didn't see a highchair in the restaurant. This might make it difficult for some families to eat here. However, we did see a cute little kids table. The concept of Niagara Seafood is great, and they really pull it off. The restaurant certainly brings a 'taste of diversity' to Buffalo's West Side! read more

It has been a couple weeks since my visit to Niagara Seafood. I had high hopes based on all of the excellent reviews and my desire to try authentic banh mi. After seeing another recommendation in the Best of Buffalo, I feel my experience should be heard. The Good: I started with a spring roll. I thought this was good, the roll was crunchy and not at all greasy. The filling was tasty and had a unique meat flavor that I wasn't expecting. I had a mango smoothie to go with my meal and thought it was good, nothing really special about it but the price was right and I can see it being refreshing on a hot summer day. I got a banh mi sandwich with cold cuts. The meat tasted similar to the meat used in pho meat balls. The vegetables were all fresh and I loaded up on jalapenos to give it a little extra kick. The roll had a nice crunchy exterior while the inside was still soft and fluffy. I could definitely see eating this on a semi regular basis. The Bad: Midway through our meal, one of my coworkers found a Tylenol pill in his noodle dish. This really put a damper on the whole experience. I can't imagine the circumstances where something like this would happen and it made me question everything else I ate. Based on this fatal error, I can't recommend Niagara Seafood. I was really hoping to like this place but I can't see myself returning. In their defense, the man working the cashier apologized and offered to remake the dish, ultimately he gave a refund since our appetites were gone. read more

Since Pho lantern restaurant has Vietnamese and Thai Food, we have a unique slant on Asian cuisine not often found in one single restaurant. Our menu has soup, salad and appetizers for starters.
