Wow, time flies! Appears that I reviewed Sun Cuisine over 8 years ago! I gave it 2 stars. Current review- 2/1/2026: up to 3-4 stars now. I really think it depends on the dish that you order. My friend ordered the teriyaki salmon which was grilled nicely and had some veggies on the side. He tried black rice which he had never had before. He liked it. It is more nutritious than white rice. 5/5 on this dish. I ordered the Sun cuisine eggplant dish with shrimp and beef. The menu indicated that this was one of the popular and recommended dishes. Here's the problem: the beef was very scatty and looked like shredded pieces of "steakum" meat! There was maybe three pieces of shrimp in total. Lots of vegetables. Sauce was good and tasty. But the eggplant, which is supposed to be the star of the show, was rather soggy and coated with breading. Disappointing. This dish I would give a 2-3/5. The serving size is very big for both of the items we ordered from the Asian fusion side of the menu. We took leftovers home. Service is friendly and quick. 5/5 Decor is lovely, lighting is dim, seating is comfortable 5/5. I would be back to try the sushi dishes next time. I love this place! I always get flat Burmese noodles. They have spicy food. They have healthy options. Their edamame is a lovely appetizer. The booths are comfortable. Ample parking is available. The service is attendance and friendly. I'm here every month. You won't regret it! read more

I was at Sun Cruise for the first time about 7 years ago. This is the second time. The menu is expansive with Japanese sushi, sashimi, ramen, Thai and Burmese dishes. We ordered tempura shrimp for appetizer. The coating was different than the usual tempura coating. The sushi sashimi dish came with 3 pieces of sushi, 3 pieces sashimi, tuna, salmon and yellowtail and a salmon roll. This dish tastes good. We also ordered a green curry dish. It was pretty good. Dessert was the Thai custard with sticky rice, also pretty good. I was surprised they are not busy at all. We were there from 6-8 pm and only 3 tables including us. Parking is behind the plaza with plenty of spaces. You enter from the parking lot side. read more

Black rice sushi will always be a fave of mine thanks to Sun. A Buffalo staple that never disappoints! Came in for a spontaneous mid afternoon lunch and got a couple rolls. The people are always nice. I love the vibe in this location and they have a small patio that faces Main St. It's not open yet but it'll be nice in the summer. I came on a whim after working all week! Staff friendly and professional. Soft non intrusive music plays in the background. Calm atmosphere.I haven't been to this location but I've been to the original 15+ years ago near the waterfront downtown! I ordered the Sake Tini and Seafood in a clay pot. ( Mild, not spicy because I'm a punk) Everything on the menu looks and described delicious. I walked in at almost 5 p.m. I thought they were closed, I'm just the only solo customer at this time. My drink came quick and OMG is soo good! I love sake and plum wine so this was a great combination for me! Place is modern and spotless! I can imagine bringing friendsand everyone finding something to eat. I'll try the sashimi and other items on the menu. I'll be returning solo and w family and friends! Drive by this place every day. Since it's in a little corner strip next to a CPAP store. Spacious and not fancy. Never knew what a treat was right under my nose. Came in for late business lunch so the place mostly empty which allowed the service to be prompt and efficient. Tremendous menu with sushi, Thai, Burmese and some fusion dishes. Lots of choices.We all ordered rolls and a Thai dish. Rolls came right out, I tried the black rice spicy tuna roll. Tasty. The others had dragon rolls and they were incredible works of art. The beef dish I ordered was "medium" hot and it was pretty sporty. Definitely going to be on my regular visit list vs. other spots on Transit. read more

We ordered takeout from this restaurant and while the food was good, the problem was we ordered samosa and one of them had the typical potatoes filling, the other had bananas in it so we got half the order wrong so disappointed that one of us didn't get to try the actual appetizer, but maybe it was a dessert., who knows! We ordered the paratha with chicken curry, it was more chicken than sauce which while not a deal breaker but we will eat the left over chicken with rice tomorrow as it really didn't go well with the paratha. The chicken curry coconut dish was good, but it needed red pepper flakes and fried onion to be more authentic, so we added those 2 things to the dish and it was pretty good. My companion grew up in Burma he knows authentic Burmese food, this place was good but I wonder if there's still better Burmese restaurants we still need to seek out in Buffalo, NY. read more

If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would. The atmosphere here was quiet and a little more intimate; their music is at a nice volume too. To start we got the edamame and the spicy grilled salmon sushi. It came out quickly and was delicious, no notes. For entrees we got the Japanese stir fry (medium spice) and stir fry egg noodle (mild). I thought the Japanese stir fry had great flavor, the spice wasn't too over powering, but my lips did tingle. My boyfriend finished the stir fry egg noodle in 3 minutes, so he enjoyed it. He said "what a meal" and the flavor was great. Both of our plates were full of veggies, well cooked noodles and chicken. The entrees came out before we could fully finish our appetizers, which never bothers me. While we got our food fast and the server is super nice, there was only one server so if you need something you'll have to be patient or flag them down. I can't wait to come back!! read more

We order take out pretty regularly from Sun in Williamsville. Food is always freshly prepared, tasty and there's a great selection in their menu. Service is great. Have had a couple "snafus" with pickup when they were once unexpectedly understaffed - but very apologetic and let us know ow the issues. We had dinner at Sun Cuisines in Williamsville on a Friday evening. The restaurant was not too busy, so we had our pick of tables. To start, we ordered a couple of appetizers; samusas and chicken curry with paratha. Both were very good and well worth the price. The curry was not as spicy as an Indian curry but just as flavorful. Samosa was crisp and filled with chicken and potatoes. We also ordered the black rice salad to share because the menu said they are known for that dish. It was okay. I'd like more dressing on it because the rice itself didn't have much flavor. I ended up taking it home to add more spring lettuce and homemade Asian dressing. On to the soup! I ordered miso soup, and my husband had the coconut chicken noodle soup. Both were very good. The miso was filled to the brim with seaweed and tofu. The coconut soup was sweet and savory, filled with chicken, noodles, raw onion slices, and crunchy rice noodles on top. I'd definitely order the coconut soup again. Now here comes the sushi. We had the tuna platter that was made up of several raw tuna delicacies. It was delicious and well worth $20. We also had the soft shell crab roll. The tempura fried crab inside the roll was very tasty with a nice crunch. If I order again, I would pass on the salad, but everything else was great! The server was great but service was a little slow. I received my sushi about 10-15 min. Before my friend so I waited to eat to be polite. If there's one thing I love, it's a good sushi spot, and Sun Cuisines is one of the best! I recently stopped in to pick up a takeaway order, and this is one of my favorite spots. Unlike picking up sushi at the grocery store, this is made to order, which is my preferred way to get sushi. When I popped in to pick up my order, it was ready on time and the service was friendly and prompt. I've never dined in at this location, but it was super cute inside, so I will have to make sure that my next trip to Sun Cuisines is for the full dine-in experience. read more

I've been here on a few occasions and decided to do take out this time. I ordered two different spice levels of Pad Thai and one of their famous black rice rolls. The food was prepared on time and very flavorful. When they first started, their food was on the cheaper end, but they are pricier and serve a different demographic now. That being said, I'm glad they have grown and continue to serve quality and flavorful food. If you are in the area and in the mood for Thai, Burmese, Japanese, and their other offerings, I'd recommend checking them out. Sun Cuisines has long been on my list of places to try! Since we were in the area, we decided to order takeout for dinner. Their menu boasts a range of Asian cuisine -- from Burmese (which is tough to find in WNY) to sushi to Thai, they've got a lot to offer. The staff working when I picked up our order were SO kind. I was there for less than three minutes, and every employee said hello. Such a nice touch! I opted for a spicy tuna roll for my meal. It came with 8 pieces as opposed to the typical 6 which was nice. And it was *actually* spicy, which isn't the case for a lot of other sushi spots. The fish and veggies inside the roll were really fresh, too. My boyfriend got seafood pad Thai (delicious, I snuck a bite) and a tunavocado roll, which he enjoyed. Considering the food and service were so good at the Williamsville location, I'm definitely going to be ordering from their Niagara Street location in the future. We had a reservation for Sunday at 5 PM, which probably wasn't necessary as the restaurant wasn't super busy inside. However, the service was rather slow - we put in our order and we probably didn't even get all of the food until 1.5 hours later. The waiter was very nice, but the food just took a very long time coming - we even went to ask for it once, wondering if it had been forgotten. When the food came, overall it was very good! We got the coconut shrimp, Thai beef salad, soft shell crab, lobster sun roll, black dragon roll, whole crispy fish, and pad see ew. The whole crispy fish was quite a standout! Crispy and tasty with the sweet sauce. The Thai beef salad was a little disappointing - it was much saltier than I expected. I would come again perhaps when they're better staffed - I do like the food and there is plenty of easy parking which is nice. But I do hope that their food time is faster normally. read more

This was my first visit to Sun Cuisines in Williamsville. I usually hesitate to try new exotic food but it was highly recommended by Judith in my book club. My waiter was a very nice young man and helped recommend some food to order. I started with the coconut shrimp. It was delicious. My main coarse was the Sun's loaded fried rice. I have been to the Blackrock location many times but finally had a chance to try this location. Ample parking is located around back off of main st. Inside is very nice and trendy looking with tons of cool decor. The food is consistent with the other location and was delicious as always. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and chicken curry to go. The spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll were very good but I just wasn't expecting the spicy mayo on, it was way to much and took away from the flavor of the roll itself. I would've preferred it on side. The chicken curry was very salty, didn't taste good at all. Would not order that again, was very disappointed. Would come back for the sushi though. read more

I was here two other times in the past two months. Last time I ordered fried spring rolls with chicken, edamame, and Thai basil fried rice (mild.) You can order the spring rolls with vegetables, instead of chicken. You can order the sting rolls fresh and not fried but I love the fried ones. This restaurant had ample seating, cool decor, and nice staff. I called last time but they asked me to do an online order. My order wasn't ready when I got there but it wasn't a big deal. My favorite dish, out of the few that I tried, is the Thai basil fried rice. It was amazing. read more

To celebrate Mother's Day, we ordered from Sun Cuisines. I specifically ordered from here because they offer curbside pickup. I ordered the day before, using their online ordering system. It is user friendly. I received confirmation and then the next day, when my order was ready, I received a text message alerting me that the food was done. When you arrive, make sure you pull to the front, not the back. You collect your food from the front of the restaurant. Don't make that mistake. I called the phone number when I arrived, and they asked for my name and order number, and within a minute, my food was handed to me in my car. In this order we got the black rice mango roll as an appetizer, the Sun chicken, the stir fry clear bean noodle with shrimp, the pad thai with shrimp, and mango sticky black rice for dessert. I took a star off because you have to pay $3 extra for shrimp dishes. There were 4 shrimp in my meal, and the same in my mom's stir fry meal. I thought that was a skimpy amount of shrimp. The flavor of the pad thai is wonderful. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The black rice mango roll was delicious and I highly recommend it. The mango sticky rice was good for dessert, but I don't know if I would order it again. That's just my taste. read more

This location is without a doubt my favorite. It's clean, brightly lit, and well staffed. I recently wrote a not so great review of the other Sun on Niagara Street because the service was so slow and lackluster, but not here! Oh yeah, and the food. Sweet, delicious food like only Sun can make it. You thought I'd leave it that short? Heck no! I'm known for writing long reviews and that's not ending any time soon. Okay, so when you first walk in you are greeted happily and courteously by the entire staff. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He sat my parents and me immediately and brought us water. While we were waiting for him to get my dad a beer as well, my parents reviewed the menu. It didn't take me long to figure out what I wanted, but they were flabbergasted by how intricate the menu is. Sun has lots of options! We started with the chicken satay and spring rolls. The satay wasn't amazing, but their spring rolls are fresh and tasty. My parents got their famous soup (it's FANTASTIC) and I started out with a mango roll, which was delicious but immediately devoured. I then got a Burmese stir fry that I can't remember the name of, but it's pineapple, veggies, and your choice of meat with rice and a sweet and sour sauce. I loved it all, apart from the veggies. At this point I was stuffed. Service was fast and got us out of there quickly once we packed up our take home boxes. I love it here and so does everyone I've talked to who's gone. There was way too much rice. The pad thai was definitely not authentic and didn't taste like pad thai at all. There was no green onion or egg and very little peanut. read more

In general, I hope a restaurant can deliver on two out of three categories: Food Service Price Sun Cuisines makes respectably good food (4 stars out of five? the highs are high, but they miss sometimes too), but the service is SO slow (2 stars) and the price is expensive (2 stars). We eat here about every 6-9 months and it's quite repeatable: "hey we haven't had Sun in awhile, let's go!" Then, every single time, we have an experience that reminds us why we don't come often. They tell us a time for pick up, then overrun it by 15 minutes, so we're waiting in the lobby wondering how it takes 55 minutes to make pad Thai. They also ask that you prepay the bill - easy to see that they've had experience with customers giving up and canceling. The flavor bomb salad is one of my favorite things to eat around here, but at this point I'm perfecting my knock-off recipe for the dressing so I can have it without the hassle. Oh, and the tomato in tonight's salad was white, totally unripe and tasteless - it's mid-August there is no excuse for serving a vampire tomato from Salinas in a $12 side salad. read more

After having their delicious coconut chicken noodle soup at Yelp Without Borders a couple months ago we finally visited Sun Cuisine. We went there for lunch today and both ordered this same soup. It came with a spring roll. We also ordered a black rice phili crab roll . Since we checked in with yelp we also received free hot saki and green tea ice cream. We split both. The soup bowl was huge! Our waiter said the only difference with the lunch and dinner orders was the price. Same size. I brought half mine home for later. The soup was good but was only luke warm. Not sure if that's how it's suppose to be but I prefer mine on the hotter side. The black rice sushi was a different texture than sushi I'm used to. Tasted good but the black rice overpowers the rest of the flavors. Our waiter Min was great! Super friendly and helpful with the menu. I did have a complaint about the ladies restroom. It actually smelled of raw sewage! So strong I had to quickly leave the room. I mentioned it to Min and he said they were aware of the issue. I'll be back to try other dishes and hopefully the bathroom issue will be corrected. read more

We used to really enjoy dining at Sun Cuisine, but the last two times we've been in we've been very disappointed with our meals. I love the samusa soup, but was told they no longer sell it. Yet it still appears on the menu both online & print. [Sun, can you PLEASE put a sticker over this so people don't get their hopes up?!?] The tofu veggie soup pales in comparison. I ordered pad kee mao the last time we visited and although there was a good amount of tofu, there were very few veggies in it and no basil to be seen. My BF ordered pad see u with chicken and said his noodles were overcooked and again, almost no veggies in his dish. He also ordered some black rice sushi and the fish was so "fishy" tasting and smelling that he couldn't finish it. I love that they have vegan/vegetarian items clearly labeled on the menu. But with the poor quality of the meals we've received, I don't think we'll be back. read more

Love that I could order online for pickup. I was looking for a quick takeout lunch so this was a great option. My food was ready on time, hot, and tasted REALLY good! I ordered the Burmese Flat noodle with veggies and fried tofu and it was very flavorful. I'm glad they put chopsticks and napkins in the bag too. Would definitely order that again!
