They are juicy and tender, but a few of them were more bone & fat than meat :( which is why i took a star off. I'm so glad I tried 99 Fast Food today! I called ahead and my order was ready when I arrived. The staff was very friendly and there were lots of Asian UB students dining in which I consider a good sign. The grilled pork bahn mi was top notch! Lots of flavor, very generous portion of thick pork slices, and the meat had very little fat--would definitely order again. Planning to bring friends and dine in next time. This was a first place I had pho at, back when my now-wife and I started dating. This particular place is a hole-in-the-wall place located off Bailey Ave. The pho was good, the prices are still decent, but the tables do need to be cleaned better. I don't think the kids working in the place are too great at cleaning the tables, but its still fine if you know what you're getting yourself into. Now, I do recall pho broth used to be better and with a stronger lemongrass flavor, but not anymore. Also, the toppings for the pho werent the freshest (some slightly browning leaves), but maybe they just had a bad supply this time around. I also appreciate that they have since introduced some new options to the menu. Stopped here when I came into buffalo and let me tell you this is the most authentic pho I have every experienced. Service was very fast and good! (Suggestion: smaller takeout containers for appetizer portions) Vietnamese Egg Roll 7/10. was earthy from mushrooms. It was okay. I probably wouldn't eat it again any time soon. I did not get the fish sauce on the side to dip it in though. Fried Dumplings 9/10. Ordered 3 orders (for separate people). Fried well. The whole dumpling was crispy. I did make a note to say to add a separate container of sauce for each order so that each person could have some. They clearly did not as you can see in the photo, there was only 1 sauce. But they did include packets of soy sauce, which is not the same **If the restaurant owner, manager or any workers read this.... Please give 1 sauce per order!!! If you feel like having Vietnamese food, come to this place. It's fast, easy and super delicious. The prices are also very affordable. The small size of Pho, for example, costs $9.50, and a large bowl, which is actually really huge, only a buck more. Everything on the menu looks straight forward delicious, it's difficult to decide what to choose. This is one of those places where you'd like to have more than one stomach or more company to share dishes. My solution will be to order at 99 more often, that's all. The service was simply the best possible. We received the menu and glasses of water immediately after arriving. A super nice person took our order. After a really short time, we were already munching on crunchy, deep fried Vietnamese Egg Rolls... so good and satisfying! Our Phos were steamy hot with beautiful, vivid aroma. I was complaining a little bit about the cold temperature of the restaurant, but a few first sips of beef broth went straight down to my toes heating up my entire body. My Pho dish was full of good size shrimp, perfectly done and delicious, but I wish they also offered my favorite seafood kind of soup. The Pho Dac Biet was also very good. My partner would have liked tendon in the mix, but I didn't even see it on the menu. Still, it was a good classic assortment of rare beef, brisket, beef ball, and tripe in a rich Pho broth. The person who took care of us checked once whether we needed anything. It was delightful and relaxing not to have anyone coming back too many times to the moment of annoyance. You pay for the meal at the counter, which is just perfect for me. 99 Fast Food is very popular for take-out. The area is not particularly the nicest, and only on-street parking in front of the restaurant is available. The atmosphere, during our visit, was rather quiet. There was no music in the background. Very spacious and was seated quickly. As appetizers, we ordered spring rolls. Normally I am used to spring rolls coming in twos or fours but here, they sell per roll. Since it was per roll, I was able order different proteins. The shrimp roll was refreshing and the pork was well marinated. We ordered the pho dac biet and it allowed you to choose a size. The soup broth was flavorful and went so well with the rice noodles. However, after finishing my noodles, it felt salty to drink some soup. The hu tien bo bien was also great. As others have said, you can't go wrong with any of the Pho that are offered here; for a different take try the Wonton Pho. My favorite dish is the Com Tam Suon Bi Trung; BBQ shredded pork with broken rice topped with a fried egg. Once you're inside, however, it is a comfy aesthetic with booth or bench sitting or tables in the center. And a fish tank full of koi to great you as you take your seat! The menu is rich with different plates and bowls, with a fantastic assortment of meat cuts and vegetables. We had the Vietnamese Egg Rolls (a must!) and Fried Dumplings for our apps. All were deliciously cooked and season to perfection! For the main course, we had the large bowl of #32 - which includes beef tripe, raw beef shaving (cooked by the broth by the time it's served), and meatballs. I skipped breakfast to make sure I had room for this amazing meal... and the two of us still could not finish the bowl! Great price, great portions, and a mouth-watering menu... it's worth a visit. (Phở Tái Chín) - beef noodle soup with sliced rare beef and brisket: I like how their sliced beef is tender and easy to chew. Some places legitimately have me wondering if they threw in pieces of Jack Link's beef jerky! It's like bubblegum! I prefer when my noodles are andante and I Hate (capital H) when they're soggy and soft. Eek! Sometimes their soup is a hit or miss. One time I went, it was a sodium bomb. Maybe the chef was having an off day. 4.5/5 Their appetizers are not bad, they're great while you're waiting for your entree. Their bbq pork skewers are full of flavor and they're tender. One of my favorite dishes is pho tai, and I am always on the hunt for a good quality pho, and this chef did not leave me disappointed. The broth was light but flavorful, beef was very tender and sliced super thin so it melted in your mouth. All the veggies and herbs in the broth were well balanced with nothing overpowering the other, and the garnish plate was very fresh. It came with a good amount of juicy pork, aromatics, bean sprouts, and pho noodles, which I had ordered as an extra. I highly suggest you also do this if you like noodles in your soup. I absolutely loved everything about this pho. The broth is unparalleled and the pork was delicious. Also, the whole experience was top notch because my husband liked his chicken teriyaki. If you're looking for something yummy and want affordable yet filling food, i highly suggest you order from here. I used to come to pho 99 all the time back when I used to goto UB. This was the goto stop for me and a lot of my friends for either comfort food or just dining for good food with a bargain. I stopped by here this week and pho 99 still does not disappoint! This restaurant is located near UB south and is not located in the most ideal location however you just cannot beat the reasonable price for good tasting huge portions of food. I recommend the pork over rice, pho, and combo vermicelli, and bo kho from this restaurant. They sometimes do not have bo kho unfortunately and it seems like they do not prepare it anymore ever since COVID. The food comes out super fast here too so if you're here for a quick lunch or trying to grab a quick bite, you definitely will not be running late. The service here isn't the greatest however if you wave over at your server they will always attend to your needs and grab whatever you need. If you are ready to cash out, then you can just go up to the front counter and they will cash out for you. Overall this restaurant is great if you're looking for reasonably priced comfort food or Vietnamese food I general. read more

Mmm, great place for pho! This restaurant is on Bailey, and despite the name of the place, it's not really a place that has "fast food". We ordered a Beef pho, chicken pho, and egg rolls, and the egg rolls came out first. They weren't too greasy and the filling was just right. The pho broth here is very clear (? if that makes any sense) and hearty. The noodles were a tid bit undercooked, but it might have just been the brand of noodles they used. They give you A LOT OF MEAT in the phos. I barely was able to finish HALF of the small pho. Overall everything tasted pretty good! The only downside of this place is parking... if you can't find street parking on the side of the restaurant, it's really annoying to have to park on the other side. :/ Still, I think it's worth the visit!! This place cured me. It was 2014, and I was doing the long distance thing with the then-girlfriend (now-wife). I was flying in on a turbulent mess of a flight via JetBlue from JFK to spend a few days together with the lady. I almost cancelled the flight because, in the days leading up to it, I was sick as a dog. Fluids were coming out of every orifice, in varying smells, shades, and textures, and I had lost close to ten pounds from this deluge. Still, I pressed on. Ultimately, the plane thudded and bounced onto the icy Buffalo tarmac, and after getting my bags at the carousel I found my girl and we hopped in her car. Her: Wow. You don't look good. Let's get you home. Me: (hoarsely) pho.... Her: What? Me: (hoarsely, though with more determination) Pho!! And so, she drove me to 99 Fast Food, because I'd been there before, and she knew I liked it. I slumped into one of their booths, and ordered the usual Pho Thai. [SIDENOTE: They used to have an XL size on the menu, which is what I ordered on this fateful day. Now they only list a Small and a Large on the menu, but legend has it they still have some of the jumbo bowls stashed somewhere in their kitchen.] The soup came out, and for the first time in what seemed like ages, my poor, abused GI tract let out a small gurgle of hunger. My mouth watered. The beefy, sweet, herbaceous, inviting aroma grabbed me by the nostrils like some bullying apparition and pulled my face to within inches of the Pho. I inhaled deeply. I had...hope. And for the next 20 minutes, I slurped, chewed, and swallowed my way through that entire gargantuan bowl. Not a speck of black pepper or broth remained. It was decimated. And then I asked for more. And then I ate another bowl. Down to the last drop. And then...I felt good. I finally, immediately, almost as though a veil of malaise had been lifted suddenly...felt well again. The Pho cured me. It was nothing short of a miracle. [SECOND SIDENOTE: They totally should've made this feat into an eating challenge. The staff were impressed.] I love this place. I've eaten here more than I've eaten at any other restaurant. I'll come here for birthdays. I'll eat here when I'm feeling unwell. Hell, my baby boy's first taste of something that wasn't baby food was right here! I load the broth with red chili paste, basil, and a squeeze of lime. I squirt sriracha and hoisin onto a plate and dunk my meat (giggity) separately, so as not to mess with the broth. You like putting a pound of bean sprouts and a metric ton of Hoisin directly into your bowl? By all means, please do! The Pho doesn't judge. It welcomes all for whomever they are. Don't want pho? The BBQ pork with rice, shredded pork, and egg is delicious. The vermicelli with Vietnamese eggrolls is great too, albeit a little too lettuce-y for me. The Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk is great. But, if you're not getting pho, you're doing yourself a disservice. It heals from within. Overall: Quality may range between good and exquisite, but it's always good enough. I was a bit disappointed with this place. The only thing I really liked here was the broth in the pho. We tried a bunch of appetizers. The spring roll was delicious but the egg roll and the fried dumplings were greasy and a bit stale. The short rib appetizer was very chewy too. I ordered a large pho for the main course. First of all, it was huuuuge!! Also, the broth was delicious. I got 99 Problems but 99 Fast Food ain't one. What to get: Skewers of whatever you fancy, Avocado Drink What else: Other drinks, Shrimp Roll What not to get: Durian and Soursop drinks I prefer 69 to 99 but when it comes to combinations of 9s, especially at lunch or dinner time or when I'm thirsty, 99 will do nicely. I did 99 a disservice when I reviewed it a few years ago. I'm not the world's biggest fan of Pho (I know, every Asian person and every Hipster person hates me right now, but at least I'm honest), and since that was really the only thing I tried here, I didn't have a chance to really properly appraise it. I didn't even like East Asian food in general, at the time, and that was my loss, because now that I've had the chance to try so much of it from so many different restaurants and regions, I'm absolutely obsessed with it. Xi'an's Lamb Cumin Noodles in Queens are my fave, but there are so, so many incarnations that I'm addicted to. So, on the advice of several others, I went back with my friend, and we tried some of the BBQ/Grilled items and some rolls, and everything was excellent. The drinks are really delicious too, and maybe my favourite thing about 99. They have really nice service too, at least the boy and girl that were helping me the few times I've been here lately were super friendly and asked all the right questions (such as "do you come here often?") The ribs are good, the shrimp skewers are delicious, and the ground-meat Kebab-like skewers are tastiest of all. These are all "appetizer" skewer items so you can order plenty of them and stay within a budget. Cheap and delicious! The fried roll is good, the shrimp roll is better (and healthier). The sauces are an array of sweet and nutty excellence that will drive you nutty, even though personally I'm not crazy about sweet sauces. The fruit drinks are exceptional, although some (Soursop, Durian) are just not good fruits to make smoothies with. The Avocado one is particularly delicious, and I would recommend it to anyone as one of the better drink treats to get in the WNY area. I've already come back to get it a few times. And I'm quite picky when it comes to smoothies and drinks. I've had 99 bad ones, but 99 Fast Food's Avocado Smoothie ain't one. read more

Service is always fast, even if getting one of the non pho dishes. I normally get pho but I did get the lemon grass chicken once and it was good. The pho has a few options, I usually only get the beef and brisket. I know tripe and tendon is traditional but tripe is definitely not for me. Make sure to add the bean sprouts and basil, jalepeno too if you like heat. read more
