The Pho Kings found themselves south of downtown this week allowing them to partake of another new pho place called Pho Hiho. We had heard good things about this place so we decided to put them to the test for our lunch. We were not disappointed. Pho Hiho is located in a strip mall south of downtown Seattle. It's a very small place with a kitchen on one side and some tables along the other. There only seemed to be one area where a larger group could have lunch, we had six with us for this day. The place was busy with both the people at the twelve or so tables plus a constant stream of folks coming in to pick up to go orders. Service was a bit slow throughout our entire meal. From being slow to give us menus to the odd sight of having them bring us one bowl or plate of food at a time, the entire process from beginning to bill was slow. It's lucky for them then that while service may have been slow the pho was absolutely delicious and perhaps some of the best that I've had in Seattle which I found a bit surprising because my first impressions were not nearly as favorable. After the slow service when we finally got our plates of condiments was I happy to see a unique addition of cilantro but the basil was a bit wilted with black spots and the sprouts looked a bit sad though plentiful. I ordered the combination pho, which in other places is usually just a combination of meat but in Pho Hiho it also has tripe and tendon. The broth was beefy without being greasy and had a unique, almost minty smell. This could perhaps be attributed to the tripe and tendon as I've never had them before. The broth was also very hot as it should be at any pho shop worth going to. I loaded my bowl up and then dug in, winnowing our pieces of chewy tripe and melt in your mouth tendon. The meat was plentiful and tasty adding a great texture to my bowl of soup. Soon we reached the end of our bowls, very satisfied and happy with what we'd had. I'm not certain how often I'll be back down in south Seattle, but given the chance I'll certainly try to go back to Pho Hiho again. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I came in shortly after opening. I ordered a bubble tea and the chicken vermicelli salad. The meat and noodles were cold! While the it is a salad and the noodles are not required to be warm, this was a sign it wasn't made fresh. After I called and pointed this out to the owner he insisted on proving to me that it was "heated". The chicken is what concerned me the most. In their menu it advertises char grilled. Which means it should be warm. So they do not make their food fresh, furthermore not even warm. I'm unhappy customer and they refused to refund my money of $13. Terrible food, terrible service and even more terrible ownership. Do not go here. The Thai place next door is amazing. read more

Trying to be supportive of small local business during the pandemic, so I think restaurants would step up their game and deliver quality food. Not in this case, I ordered a bowl of pho to go. When I got home I noticed the broth was pretty dark in color so that was a red flag. Warmed everything up and I swear I was eating a bowl of salt. This place might have the best pho in Seattle (at least the best that I've had). The broth is phenomenal and they include lots of hearty, fresh veggies. However, their hours are terrible. They are only open until 7pm, and simply won't serve you if you show up after 6:30pm. On Saturdays, they are only open until 4pm. I don't like this pho at all. I ordered the number 8. They were really busy, they sat me at a table with ice water leftover from the previous customer. As I was walking to my table one of the waitresses cut right in front of me without saying excuse me or anything. Maybe she was a little overwhelmed with the lunch rush hour. I've been going here for years. I've asked many times if the fried veggie rolls contain eggs. I was always told that they don't. I was even shown the ingredient list on the wanton wrappers they use. However, this last time I was told that they do dip the veggie rolls in egg to get them to stick. Pho here was fine. Nothing special, but good. My co-worker had a vermicelli bowl & enjoyed it. Basically the service was a little slow during lunch (and it wasn't that busy), but the prices are good, food was reasonably fresh & we would definitely come back. More noodles than most...that is about all that stood out. There are a lot of options in this little corner - Thai, Pho, burgers (Herfys), Japanese/Sushi, cigars, Starbucks, salad bar (Evergreens)...so you can't really go wrong. The bun and the fresh spring rolls here are delicious. The spring rolls are large, and the peanut sauce was tasty. The bun with the fried veggie roll was delicious. Fresh veggies and noodles, and dipping sauce wasn't too sweet, which is perfect. I can't comment on the pho, since I'm not a pho fan (please don't shoot me) but my boyfriend really enjoys his bowl. I'd like to start by saying that I am not a pho fan. I understand the hype but when it comes to broth based dishes, I think you're better off making it at home. HOWEVER, this place was great! I can't say that I'm too surprised, the owner knows what he's doing. The beef broth was flavorful with mild spice, slight mint undertones, with a holiday type aftertaste. The aftertaste was great, reminding me of festive holiday dishes filled with flavor, but of Vietnamese origin. The vegetables were soft but not mooshy, and the dish came with a good amount of vegetables and noodles. I had the vegetarian pho and they put tons more tofu than anywhere else I've been. Last, I'd like to say that this pho does not just taste like whatever you add - it actually had it's own foundational flavors that complimented what you add and came out to a well-rounded, tasty dish that is healthy. I don't usually write reviews, but I'm a bit fed up so I'm pretty motivated to write this one. First, I'll say that the food here is good and the folks are friendly. But consistency is the issue with this place. I work in the neighborhood and have both dined in and enjoyed take-out from Pho HiHo. The main problem is that they have a rotating staff at the front counter. I'm not sure if it's family members who are taking turns, but no one is really familar with the menu. However, that shouldn't be a problem because I always want to order the same thing - the sandwich combo. It's a Vietnamese style sandwhich with a small order of Pho. It's a wonderful combination when they do it right. But I always have difficulty ordering it. I try to explain that I want a tofu sandwhich and the vegetarian pho for the combo. About half the time I get the wrong result - which would be various combinations of beef sandwiches, or separate orders of sandwiches with full orders of beef pho, etc. But believe me, I never make a stink about it and they always correct whatever goes wrong. I just always have to check the meal before I head back to the office to eat it. But today I was told (by yet another new person at the counter) that they would make the tofu sandwhich but not the vege pho for the combo. ??! This was odd to me, because I've ordered that vege combo many times there. So the lady at the counter went back in the kitchen to ask if they would make it, but the folks back there evidently said no. So rather than make a fuss, I ended up ordering the tofu sandwhich by itself and I skipped the full order of vege pho. The thing is, I don't want readers to assume that I'm some sort of "soap box" vegetarian. I don't go around to places and demand vegetarian food that's not on the menu. But Pho HiHo has large signs outside to advertise their vegetarian pho. I'm a vegetarian and they made it clear that they want my business. (Otherwise it wouldn't be fair of me to expect a vege pho sandwhich combo.) But the staffing issue there makes it difficult to get that vegetarian food consistently. I suspect though that the next time I go, there will be a different person at the counter and maybe then I'll be able to get the combo again. read more

The spring rolls are ok, but the dipping sauce is disappointing. It's basically straight up hoisin sauce and I prefer the kind with peanuts in it. Also, the vermicelli bowls are huge, but the fish sauce lacks a lot of flavor and I don't think they give you enough for the amount of noodles they provide. It's kind of just like a ton of noodles with a little bit of everything else. BUT, I am giving this place 4-stars because I've never had such wonderful chicken pho (pho ga). The broth wasn't greasy and it was clear, but still incredibly flavorful. I specifically ordered it with white meat, though I'm not sure if this comes standard, and it was still especially flavorful. I also like the noodles they use, which seem to have a different texture and consistency from the noodles at many other places I have been to. On future visits, I will probably never order anything other than the chicken pho. read more

The broth is flavorful and I particularly like the flank and steak they use in their pho here. I usually order the small which is enough of a meal for me. I honestly think they can be a little less stingy about their broth though - the portions of meat and noodles you get are pretty good, but I thought pho was supposed to come with more broth! You also get the plate of sprouts, basil, and jalapenos if you want to add it in when you order pho, but you have to ask for the tiny saucers if you want to use one for your hoisin and Sriracha sauce. I actually thought that was a little weird since most pho places I've gone to already have these readily available at your table. They also have vermicelli and rice plates to try, and I thought about trying out some of their short ribs or pork. But considering the prices of these, I'd rather save myself a couple of bucks and get more quantity for the money I spend. read more

This restaurant over-delivered and made a group of 11 very happy! We all went there to celebrate our co-workers new job and had to go to a place that had vegetarian broth - a hard thing to find. I called ahead to request the veggie broth (no problem at all!) and reserve a spot for the large group. They were totally ready when we arrived at noon - even though they were busy busy. We were seated with order taken and tasty food delivered within 15 minutes! Not kidding! I don't know of any other place in Georgetown that could have delivered such service. I am highly impressed on all levels and recommend for a solo-lunch date or for a decent size group. Call ahead and give them the opportunity to be ready for you. One of the best pho places I've been to in Seattle. I need to visit this place more often but since I usually bring my lunch to work I don't get out much. This place is great little lunch spot. Definitely a good meal, not bad if you need to get a decent lunch at a decent price. I've gone here quite a few times for the chicken chow mein (made with pan fried noodles, my favorite!) and it is always good. I had the Pho noodle soup once, didn't care much for it myself but I know quite a few people that I work with that really like it. It's a little small inside so it doesn't fit many people so get there early. This is the best pho in the Seattle-area! I drive from Kirkland just to get pho here. I have personally tried every pho restaurant from south Everette & Marysville all the way to Burien & Tacoma as well as visited Vietnam multiple times. This is by far the single best pho restaurant! I just finished my first lunch at Pho Hiho and it certainly won't be my last. I had to do some business next door at the licensing agency so I dropped in for a quick lunch. The interior looks like your basic pho joint but it was a much friendlier greeting than I am used to. I decided on a small bowl of steak pho and a side of shrimp fresh rolls. The first thing I noticed about the pho was that it was certainly packed full. I really can't believe that they are able to cram so many noodles into that bowl. The beef wasn't skimped on either but I found the cut of meat was a bit tougher than what I am used to at Than Bros. What really impressed me was the complexity and richness of the broth. It wasn't as perfumed as others that I have had but instead was dark and, well, beefy goodness. The fresh roll was very fresh but a bit bland. It really needed every bit of the dipping sauce that came with it. Throughout my lunch the gracious staff checked in on me and even topped off my soda for me. Certainly not the level of service I have experienced while dining on pho at TB. There are not many options for pho in the Georgetown/Tukwila area so finding Pho Hiho gives me just another option for south end lunch. read more

I was in Seattle for a business meeting and this is where we had lunch. I didn't know what to expect considering the Vietnamese population in Seattle is considerably less than here in SoCal. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the authenticity and quality of the food. The restaurant is family-owned and has a very nice, casual feel. The service was attentive and fast. I ordered the Bun Nem Nuong Cha Gio. In my bowl, rice vermicelli noodles (Bun) sat on top of shredded iceberg lettuce, bean sprouts, mint, and basil. The Nem Nuong were cut into bite-size pieces and laid on top next to the Cha Gio (egg rolls). The best way I can describe Nem Nuong is that it's a cross between sausage and meatballs. It's ground pork mixed with garlic, herbs, lemongrass, and fishsauce that's formed into oval shapes and grilled. The best are grilled on strips of sugarcane but this is rare since sugarcane tends to be quite expensive. The texture is firmer than meatballs with a slight bite that's closer to sausage. The Nem Nuong at Pho Hiho was delicious even without the sugarcane treatment. They were very generous with their portions of the Nem Nuong and Cha Gio. The fishsauce that accompanies the dish came out without chili or garlic, which was fine since you can always add chili at the table. It wasn't the best sauce I've ever tried but it was decent. Overall, it was a very good meal and a welcome surprise since it felt a little bit like home while I was traveling. read more

I don't know WHY the waitress doesn't wrote down the order. They always forget something... twits. Guess that's pho for you. Like just now. Got my pho. The forgot the streak on the side... I've been coming here on Saturdays off and on for about 10 years now. I always get the steak Pho. It is consistently the same, very good. Enough said. The atmosphere for lunch time is very much for the working class. Not for the Hipsters going to Starbucks on the corner. The staff is not always the same but they are very prompt to get you a glass of water and to take your order. Very friendly and always with a smile. Solid quick bite cheap eat place; probably won't make a trip out here just for their food, but his makes a good work lunch spot if you're nearby. Speedy, attentive service and the price is good. I got a small pho with steak, brisket, and tendon (#14). They are generous with the side veggies (hate it when some places give you two leaves of mint) don't be deceived by the size of the bowl. So I came in the other day and ordered some food and then when I returned home I noticed some of the necessary stuff to complete my meal was not given in the order. So I called the shop and let them know that this happened. The gentleman who I spoke to offered to either give me a credit at the store for the next time I came in or even deliver me the stuff that was left out. I agreed to come down there and pick it up myself and he not only made me a whole new meal and let me keep the one that was missing the items but also gave me the missing items for that meal along with a complementary appetizer. I think that they went above and beyond to rectify the problem and I think that how they treat the situation was very professional and they did anything and everything they could to make the situation better so I am a happy camper and I really do appreciate the man's willingness to make the situation right.
