I used to love this place and was a regular, but the quality has gone downhill badly. The meat was so poor I had to spit it out into a napkin, and I couldn't even finish the soup. What made it worse was the price -- $42 for one person for just soup, a drink, and egg rolls. Completely unreasonable for the quality being served. There are so many great alternatives nearby now, and this place seriously needs a business upgrade if they want to stay competitive. I've been coming to this location for the past couple years since I used to go to UCR and the quality has remained top tier for all these years! The service is very quick and they cater to you in a prompt manner. The food is delicious and the portions are pretty big, I usually get the wonton soup and I'll have enough for two servings! They are also always updating their menu and adding new dishes to it which is cool to see. The ambiance inside is nice as well, they have a big restaurant so they can accommodate to big parties as well as smaller ones. Returned another time, appetizers are great but the bun bo hue is not that great. For appetizer we ordered banh beo ( steamed rice cake with fish sauce and pork grind ) and spring roll. Banh beo was very delicious, made fresh, and crunchy with the pork grind. Spring roll comes with lettuce to wrap it around and it is also very crunchy and fresh. For bun Bo hue I was disappointed, although the noodle texture is bouncy but the soup base is very oily and bland. Also the area is a little bit sketchy and we sit near the door, someone came across the window, put her face on the window right next to us and stare at us for 5 minutes, made us very uncomfortable, the staff saw it but they did nothing about it. Been to quite a few of the pho ha restaurants. Particularly the ones in San Bern (the first one we used to go to regularly), Fontucky, Redlands, and the University one. Ngl, San Bern used to hold it down. Fontucky was booty from the start. Same goes for the riverside location (off Tyler). Idk which aunt, or cousin, or whoever runs the university location, but they legit put the other locations to shame. Fr they run like a well oiled machine up in there. Food comes out piping hot and stupid fast. Maybe it's the turnover? Whatever it is the food seems to taste pretty fresh. Atleast when compared to the other locations. I do know viet food typically has a short shelf life so ig it's due to the traffic that everything taste pretty fresh. Overall: 4.4/5 (delivery) We ordered 3 items for lunch on Ubereats to be delivered to our hotel. The portion sizes are smaller than expected and what they were a couple of years ago based on the Yelp pictures. Banh Hoi Thit Nuong ($17.60): They gave us a full separate bag of veggies (pickled carrots & daikons, lettuce, mint). Wish they gave a bit more banh hoi. The thit nuong was really good though. Tau Hu Ky (+$3.50): Their shrimp cake is delicious & crunchy. Recommend. Banh Beo ($10.98): This was a hard pass. The banh Beo was too thick and tasteless. There's barely any of the shrimp floss & green onion oil toppings. They do give you big pieces of the fried pork fat but that makes it harder to it eat it with the banh beo which is the whole point. Mi Xa Xiu Hoang Thanh ($15.43): This comes with a small soup and the xa xiu sauce on the side. Make sure to mix the contents in the bowl first before pouring the sauce on. The sauce is strong so you might not need all of it or you can use it as a dipping sauce. I found the soup was best to sip on in between than to dip the noodles in. The fried wontons were crispy even after being sealed in the bowl for awhile which was surprising. The xa xiu is really good with the sauce. The entree overall was really good but you can get this for less & more flavorful at a Chinese restaurant. read more
