I work at the Towson town center and was craving Vietnamese food. Specifically the summer rolls that's so famous in the viet food culture. They sell the regular appetizer for $5 and the one with pork for $6. I went to go pick it up and for what i usually Pay a Vietnamese cuisine it's almost a complete rip off.. it's 90% noodles and 5% meat 5% shredded lettuce.. it's honestly kind of sad that i paid $11 for what would look like 2 normal spring rolls at other restaurants.. but this is JUST the spring rolls. On the flip side i walked into the restaurant, it is very clean, organized. Not too crowded, and for what i saw the ambience is pretty nice as well. I can only speak for the 5 minutes i was in there. I'm almost never in the Towson area, so I'm really not familiar with the restaurants there. However, we saw this place on Yelp and decided to stop by for some comfort food. The restaurant is very spacious and their staff is really nice. We ordered the pho and the beef chow foon. The pho was really good and it was a generous portion. However, I was disappointed by the beef chow foon. The beef had barely any flavor to it, despite the amount of sauce that was on the dish. The broccoli also tasted as it came straight out of the freezer. I kind of picked at the dish until I decided that I couldn't eat any more of it. The first time I ever ate Pho was at this restaurant. I thought it was very good, and have even come back two more times. I forget what it was that I bought, but believe it was the meat combination. The broth, noodles, meat and really everything was fantastic. I have also tried the summer rolls, and shrimp fried rice and thought it was really good as well. Before my wife and I moved to MD, we had three great Pho restaurants near me. It is tough to beat a giant bowl of hot soup loaded with noodles, bean sprouts and fresh basil in the winter. When we moved to MD one of the first restaurants we tried was Pho Dat Than. I don't know if the name is an intentional play on words or if it is serious, but we have fun saying it in any event. My wife and I have dined here three times now and I can really only give it a so-so rating. The first thing that gets me is the smell. Walking in, it sort of smells.... like feet. Certainly not what you want to smell walking in to sit down for dinner. If it hadn't been for the fact that I have been to several other Vietnamese restaurants, I would have thought it might be just a cultural scent I'm not used to, but that isn't the case. We've only ordered Pho each time for our entrees, but the first time in we tried the spring rolls. Bad idea. The rice paper wrapper was thick and rubbery. The filling was cold and flavorless. The peanut dipping sauce was rather blah too. I definitely wouldn't order it again. On to the Pho... This is where they won some stars back. The portion size is certainly on par what I have come to expect. Giant bowls filled to the brim with a giant portion of rice noodles and a heaping plate of bean sprouts, fresh basil and lime. My typical go to is the chicken, Pho Ga. The chicken is far and away the best cooked in pho I've had. Tender and juicy, not that weird sort of dry texture you usually get. My wife is a fan of the beef pho, who's name escapes me at the moment. The beef is always a generous portion and cooked just right. She's always been happy with it. The final element here is unfortunately not a positive one. While water cups are filled quickly and refilled just as fast, the rest of the service is painfully slow. To the point f me wondering if they had to go find a chicken to make my dinner slow. Once you've eaten, getting you check and paying is just as painful. I typically wind up walking to the back and grabbing someone so we can leave. A dinner there has typically taken us over an hour. So that's a long way of saying, this is a passable restaurant if you are nearby and have an itch for pho, but don't make a special trip and make sure you aren't trying to catch a quick dinner before a show. We'll probably be back, but only if nothing else nearby works. read more

I agree with the other people that say this place is underrated. It definitely gets 5 stars in my book for their cha gio (egg rolls) alone- always perfectly crispy, meaty and just the best tasting that I've had anywhere. Seriously, my husband could eat 3 orders by himself they are so good. Their pho ga and regular pho is also always fantastic. Piping hot and never skimping on the sides veggies. Plus unlike most Vietnamese places, they have so much variety in their menu. You have to try the banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake) at least once in your life. Most places don't make it because it's difficult but this place does a great job. They also have this delicious chow fun dish (I'm looking at you, wide noodles fans) with shrimp and scallops and black bean sauce. It is to die for. I usually get pho or the noodles with shrimp and scallops (I think it's called double delight chow foon). I've come with some friends before and gotten their pork pot, ugh just so deliciously sweet and hits the spot for a comfort food dish. My husband likes their chicken and basil dish that is also really good. Also, they have avocado smoothies! The Kung fu tea next door does not have that (but I also recommend hitting up Kung fu tea for good boba). I always leave full and happy from this place. their prices are much cheaper than the pho places in Parkville/Perry hall area. If you're on the east side and don't want to go to the west side for pho, this is a great spot to hit up! read more

This is my favorite noodle house in the area. They package the pho so thoughtfully when you get carryout. The noodles are in a separate container so they don't absorb all of the delicious broth, and the garnishes are in a big plastic baggie on the side. My only complaint this time around is that they gave me two thin slivers of jalapeno pepper for the whole order; I had to stop at a grocery store on the way home to pick up another pepper once I realized it. The regular-sized order gives me at least two meals if not more, and I love my pho spicy! Good pho restaurant with reasonable price They have Bún bò Hu which is basically how I judge a pho place by first look. It was decent. For regular pho, broth is a bit too sweet but I don't think they use much MSG because I didn't really feel thirsty after eating it. Summer roll is just okay, not very special. I love this restaurant! everything was great! The service was awesome. My server was this young waitress. She was really friendly and cute. Me and four other friends came to try their pho. They give out such huge portion for a cheap price! i got the regular bowl for 5.95 and couldn't even finish it. The broth was excellent i tell you. This is my go to place after a long night of drinking and debauchery. Their pho is like healing soup that clears away all the hangovers and whatever else you are feeling after a fun night. I get the large D4 and it's the one with the rare steak and brisket. I think it's the best! Of course, if you like tendon, tripe, etc, they have all of those options as well. They give you cilantro on the side (for those who don't like cilantro) and fresh bean sprouts and hot peppers. Also, many don't know this, but you have to get the pickled onions on the side. They add this tangy and wonderful component to the soup that makes it just absolutely perfect. Also, we get the spring rolls and summer rolls and their peanut sauce and fish sauce are both amazing. Pho Dat Thanh... It's got the same name as a Columbia joint, but it's definitely different. This Towson one is decent, but certainly not impressive. I can tell the owners put some thought into the decor of this restaurant. Compared to other pho places I've been to, I think Pho Dat Thanh is the cleanest and most modern looking. I've got nothing to complain about the prices either -- standard, inexpensive Vietnamese food. The summer and spring rolls are fantastic. Smaller than most other Vietnamese restaurants, but good nonetheless. The pho, as noted by others, is great. But then again, it's hard to mess up pho. What I was sorely disappointed about was the Triple Delight Vermicelli bowl. It's been recommended by others as well as our server, but it ended up being a huuuge bowl of vermicelli noodles with underachieving meat pieces. I always try vermicelli bowls at Vietnamese restaurants and the meat just didn't taste right here. In fact, I don't even think they were prepared like most places have them made. Service is usually very quick and attentive and the portions are extremely generous (you'd be crazy to get a regular bowl when you could have a large for about 50 cents more). The only big downside for me is that the restaurant itself is essentially an echo chamber and it is completely impossible to tune out the conversations of the people sitting around you. This has been my general place to stop in for quick, cheap pho, great for when I want something hot and filling. On my last visit I decided to branch out a bit and try a couple new things. As an appetizer I got the marinated beef wrapped in grape leaves. They were juicy, well-seasoned and came with a side of chili-infused oil that enhanced the flavor wonderfully. Instead of the usual number 1 pho I tend to stick with at pho places, I ordered a spicy beef and noodle soup with pork knuckle. The beef was delicious, if a bit on the fatty side, and the noodles were plump and delicious. However the broth was kind of bland and flat, and I wish they would've browned the knuckle a bit before boiling it to draw out a bit more flavor. I ate a good bit of it, but only after stealing and adding some of the lime, cilantro, basil, and jalapeno that came with my friend's order of beef brisket pho. My gf ordered the vegetarian pho, which to her delight came with large pieces of fried, firm tofu. My friend had no complaints about her beef brisket pho, but then again she tends to eat it without any of the offered veggies and herbs and prefers to eat very plain food. If that is your palate range, you'll probably enjoy it as well. Service was fine, nothing to write home about, but I do think that it may be time for them to buy a new set of water glasses, as I noticed that mine and several other tables had noticeable cracks in them. read more

If you walk into a Vietnamese restaurant and it does not smell like they've been cooking pho for 10 hours, just walk out. That was my red flag. Unfortunately, I ordered take out online for pick up. I ordered a pork pot and a bowl of pho. The pork pot was completely disgusting. Texture was so rubbery and chewy. Flavor was like the smell of a sock. Inedible. The pho broth was extremely salty and had zero hints of star anise, cinnamon or cloves, which is the most important flavors in pho. I just wasted $30 and the only thing I enjoyed from this order was the side of rice that came with my rubber pork pot. I guess it's rice and soy sauce for dinner tonight read more

Our waiter was able to answers the questions appropriately - well kind of. I was still a bit confused as to what exactly I was ordering. I ended up ordering a traditional Vietnamese soup, which had a tasty broth, pork on the bone, vermicelli noodles, bean sprouts and cilantro. I found it necessary to add some extra spice to my pho. No problem, as sriracha, soy and hoison sauce are available on the table. My brother ordered a noodle dish with barbecued pork, beef and shrimp served with a sweet-smokey hoison sauce. This restaurant has it down-- prompt service, plenty of toppings provided for the pho at no extra charge, quick in the kitchen, and affordable prices. As a Pho connoisseur I'd like to believe I dabble in the taste of fine vietnamese cuisine. I came to this place while on a two day nerd trip, and despite having 3 stars for reviews i needed to try it because i was craving pho. The first plus is that they were open to 11pm which was huge due to my late night. Second plus was my wait time (albeit due to the lateness into the night) was extremely short. Third plus was the food came out quick to fill my stomach. And finally the taste was great. The springrolls were made in bite size pieces and alot of pho places nowadays dont include that much shrimp. The tendon could have been more chewy (a little too soft for my taste) but the size was great and the cost was very reasonable. The staff was kind and efficient and the bathrooms were clean as well. My husband got the P7 (forgot the name) and I got the Grilled honey lemongrass chicken (not over steamed rice). Both our meals were pretty good but nothing over the top amazing. Midway through my dish I wondered if I was really consuming chicken as the texture and look of it did not resemble chicken to me. That ruined it for me and my husband and u traded dishes. The noodles were also short, as if someone cut the noodles in various spots (huh?!). The Thai iced tea was disgusting though, do not order this at all! It tasted so artificial & just overly gross. Best Vietnamese in the Baltimore metro in my opinion. I have been coming here for about 10 years, and always get a large D3 Pho with flank and there is often plenty to take home afterwards, all for just around $10.
