Driving by, I was overtaken by a sudden need for bao and pho. IndoViet hit that spot. It looks like a mostly hot pot joint, and the tables have those burners on them. But, I wanted pho, so I got that instead. I was a little confused by the menu, as they seem to have combinations and lack the ability to pick and choose the meats, with some of the classics missing. Mine also came out precooked. Still, the soup was very good. I also got a side of bao, which were honestly amazing enough that I would go back just for them. This was my second time going to IndoViet. Located right on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown, it's a very busy street. It's shocking so big the restaurant is. It was quite slow when I went - I was the only one in there for at least 30 minutes. It's a big take out restaurant. There's a full bar and lots of seating available. It's not a fancy place, but the food is decent. It's a hodgepodge of menu items however, from curries to Korean food. The pho was fine - they didn't have limes as their accoutrement but they did have limes and the staff was really friendly. I got the combination, I love the meatballs and usually tripe when it's good, it wasn't good here. I will say their fried chicken was so superb - it was super salty, and perfectly fried like only good Asian restaurants can get it. Indoviet is consistently one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore and one of the most criminally underrated! I feel like every time I dine in here, it's relatively empty but they have an INSANE amount of to-go orders! I think more people need to experience it in person, especially for the vibes and the fun alcoholic boba drinks! They have so many flavors!! The food is also BOMBBBB. The staff was really nice, but it took me a while to order as the first lady didn't seem to speak much English, but still very much tried to help until she eventually went to get help. I have been here a few other times and the restaurant is usually extremely empty, but they seem to be busy with lots of take out orders. Service here is always a hit or miss. Sometimes we get great service, and sometimes service is extremely slow to the point where we have to walk up to the counter to pay our bill so we can finally leave. Their pho is pretty good! I really like their pho combination with spicy pho (pho 1 I think?) and their bun bo hue is okay. What honestly keeps me coming back is their large menu selection and their boba drinks. My favorite is their green tea kimquat with 50% sweetness (no toppings). Perfect mix of sweet ad tartness. There is only street parking, no private parking lot. We've never had trouble finding parking though! read more

I Got pho to-go from Indoviet while mildly hungover, and honestly, the broth was great: rich, flavorful, and hit the spot. Noodles were soft and cooked just right, not mushy or clumpy. Broth and noodles portions were quite generous. My only gripe was the meat and it was not nearly enough for the size of the bowl, which threw off the balance. Sides were fresh: sprouts, mint, lime, all there. Solid 7/10. I'd come back for the broth alone, but definitely asking for more meat next time read more

I have not been to IndoViet in awhile, but now I am back with an updated review. I ordered the steak and meatball pho dish. The quality was not what I was expecting from this business. The broth was not warm enough to necessarily and sufficiently bring out the flavors some would traditionally expect from a bowl of pho. I didn't appreciate lemon replacing lime as a garnish. I also ordered a salted caramel latte. The latte was decent, but I was concerned when told that they never served it hot. To no surprise, the drink was lukewarm. The service was ok. A younger female server took our order, but she didn't seem too friendly; more so apathetic. Our table was not frequented regularly. Although, the male server who brought the coffee was friendly and seemed to pay more attention to detail. I was not awed by the restaurant's ambiance this time. It did not make sense for me to hear sports playing at the bar. If I remember correctly, I was served with nicer bowls from my previous experiences at this business. I left the restaurant with my partner feeling like our patronage was unappreciated. I was disappointed. I can still feel the power and impact a business makes on a consumer, even as a business student. This experience spoke for itself on what impression it left on me. I would also like to impart some of my other impressions: IndoViet comes off as trying to be like one of their local competitors: having a bar and serving primarily Vietnamese dishes. There are a lot of items on the menu. With the quality I experienced, these prices are in no way justified. Perhaps consider downsizing the menu and developing core competencies that are original, then the prices will be justified. 100% this pho cured my hangover. Came out piping hot, and it was still steaming after 10 minutes of eating. Because of this, the noodles were pretty overcooked. I'd probably order the noodles on the side because of this. Otherwise the steak & brisket pho and crispy eggrolls were great! I'm pretty picky on brisket, and it was lean, tender and not so fatty. As far as the service, knocked down a star because as soon as I came in, I was greeted by young staff sitting down with their laptops with headphones on. First impressions are everything, and it was just odd to me. Maybe I was just cranky and hangry at the time, but I feel like staff should sit to the side and do non-work related stuff out of sight from paying customers. Just my opinion. This place came highly recommended, and I have to say, wow!! This is among some of the best Vietnamese food I've had! Full disclaimer, I'm a vegetarian, so this review is only on vegetarian food. First off, I love the wide variety of Vietnamese & Indonesian food. The vegetarian options are also pretty extensive. We tried a bunch of different things, and everything was phenomenal! 1) Fried tofu and vegetable pho: this was delicious! The pho broth was so flavorful and all the vegetables and tofu were fresh and perfectly cooked. The portions are also huge!! I've had a lot of vegetarian pho broth in the past, and this is by far the best!! Also, some of the other reviewers commented on the pho broth being "bland" or too heavy on the "mulling spices." I totally disagree. The broth was very flavorful and perfect. 2) Fried tofu banh mi: this was also amazing. Again the portion was huge and the bun was packed with tofu and veggies! Everything was so fresh and delicious, and the bread was so soft. 3) fried tofu vermicelli: again, so delicious and packed with flavor. We ordered it with the peanut sauce, which was perfect. 4) red bean bao buns: delicious!! The buns were cooked perfectly and the red bean filling was very yummy. Also, the buns are big (bigger than the palm of my hand). Overall, this is the best Vietnamese food I've had in the Baltimore area! I am kicking myself for not stopping by sooner. Extremely disappointed in finding out the "vegetarian broth" pho I've been ordering has been meat broth after receiving the true vegetarian broth today that is much lighter and completely different. I usually order from UberEats and order the "pho fried tofu and vegetable" under the vegetable broth category so I figured vegetable broth is what I would be receiving. This really needs to be fixed in their system. I've been vegetarian for over 12 years and my diet is very important to me. Its a decent place! We tried: The Asian styled rice plate - Korean Chili (w/ beef): this was a bit spicier than expected but had quite the fragrant aroma and was just a solid dish. honestly nothing special but entertaining to see a korean sauce focused dish at this location Laksa (with tofu) - The depth of flavors for this was amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed this one because i have yet to experience elsewhere a curry based ramen like this. This is definitely a must try! Fried beef dumplings - This was a freebie for liking them on facebook. it seems the beef was stirfried first then added into a dumpling skin and deep fried. all in all - this was enjoyable and totally worth the like. The downside was that the server had a bit of confusion and forgot the dumplings due to the new menu. In addition, a minor mishap due to customization of asking for iced green tea with pandan, according to the menu should have been a $2 tea + 50cent increase for the pandan. However was ultimately charged the rate for a Boba drink ($5.50). I would have appreciated the heads up that it would become a boba drink before receiving the receipt. read more

Disclosure: it was ordered and delivered because I had an outrageous hangover, so we didn't get the full restaurant experience. But I think it says so much when food is delivered yet tastes fresh, hot, and well-made when it shows up (like you never order burgers and fries because you know it'll be soggy and lukewarm when it shows up). I didn't take photos but we ordered: combination pork bao, grilled lemongrass beef banh mi, crispy Vietnamese egg rolls, and fried tofu fried rice. I love bao, and this was great except the pork pieces were large, more like a meatball than a meat filling. Only ordered takeout as parking is very limited. Regardless, this is the best pho in Highlandtown/Canton. Portions are generous, takeout soup container is 90% full of the most delicious broth - both pho and bun bo hue. Unlike the other pho place nearby they are consistent, and follow requests of uncooked noodles every time. I am so happy I found this place after the other pho restaurant was closed down due to health code violations - insect infestation. Unfortunately I wish I hadn't :( My husband and I ordered the brisket and steak pho and two orders of boa buns. The pho: most interesting tasting broth I have ever had and not to my liking. Tasted way too much like mulling spices, but bland besides that. Good portion of steak but couldn't really enjoy it due to overall taste. The bao: our pork was raw on the inside and the curry chicken bao were okay. I did like the consistency of the buns. I'll start by saying I'm Vietnamese and from Boston where there are many really great Pho spots for significantly cheaper so I may be biased but I have had better and cheaper pho in the Baltimore county area so I know it's possible to achieve this quality, just not here. The pho itself is ok. But they serve it with lemons and I don't understand that. Like at all. I thought they ran out of limes the first time I went and then I came back and they still had lemons. I really have never seen anything like that lol. The chicken satay is pretty good. I would never pay $20+ for pad thai...when we've eaten here there is a weird smell at the bar area and the dining area is just kinda worn down. And the service each time is just not great. No one looks like they want to work there and I feel like a burden asking for anything but they don't come and check in to ask if you need anything so you have to flag them down but the restaurant is empty... I tried to like this place and gave it a couple of tries but I will probably not be back since pho bac is around the corner. read more

I was really excited to try this brand new restaurant, but sadly had a sub par experience. Upon walking in, there are some cool architectural pieces like an exposed brick wall and a floor to ceiling guilded mirror. The tables by the windows are nice and bright, but the tables towards the back of the restaurant were a little gloomy (not sure if they just kept the lights off that evening?). The first turn-off was obvious as soon as we opened the menu-- the prices and dishes offered on their website vs. the menu in their restaurant is really inconsistent. If you want true pricing and available choices, use the pics of the menu other Yelp reviewers have posted. The website menu gives the impression that their more expensive entrees are around $15, but a lot of the entrees in the restaurant averaged out in the $19-22 range. We ordered the shrimp paste on sugar cane as an appetizer, and while it tasted good there were only two medium sized pieces for $9. I was honestly expecting a much more generous portion, especially because there is a picture of the shrimp paste on sugar cane in the menu and it shows double the amount we got. Both my partner and I ordered the Vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and egg roll, and disappointingly the dishes showed up with lukewarm meat. The portion was large but not worth $17, especially with meat that wasn't served hot. The dishes came quickly, but I don't think I'll be returning since it's pricier than advertised and I really wasn't wowed by the food. read more

I was going to go to Rockvile to my spot Pho Nom Nom but decided to give this spot a try, i wish i had not. Let me start, first the packing, it appeared my food was just thrown in the paper bag. Had sauces leaking all over the place. On to the food, chicken satay weird taste and the peanut sauce was watery. I ordered their pork sausage, it was ok but nothing mind blowing. Now, the banh mi, a sandwich i am extremely familiar with. The bread was basically a loaf, not a traditional french style baguette that is crunchy, the grilled pork was flavorless, it was packed with tons of daikon and carrots, but really underwhelming. While I ordered carry out, even a brief glimpse of the interior during pick up was enough to garner a sense of the spots inviting, spacious yet intimate atmosphere. I ordered the Red Bean Steam Bao as an appetizer--talk about that classic fluffy meets touch of chew texture with just the right touch of sweetness. The bun was filled with just the right volume of filling--a complex nutty meets sweet red bean paste. Hard not to devour in just a few bites! I went with the Vermicelli Noodle Bowl vegetarian style with tofu and peanut sauce. The dish came deconstructed allowing me to construct my ideal ratio of ingredients. The noodles were cooked to perfection--just the right amount of structure and chew to stand up in the sauce. The pickled carrots and daikon added a nice flavorful bite alongside fresh julienned cucumber, crunchy lettuce and bean sprouts. Fried shallots, crushed peanuts and scallions complete the dish with flavor and texture. I ordered this via uber eats and was so excited to finally find Shaken Beef in Baltimore! My order for context-- Shaken Beef--very tasty, tender meat-great portion and it was very saucy, which wilted the lettuce, and overpowered everything-- no cucumber, or tomato which is how Im used to having it in NoVa Fresh spring rolls with roasted pork AND no peanut sauce, not much else to say bc I didn't eat them without the sauce :/ App size phô asked for noodles and bean sprouts with no meat, but got only meat and broth (which was amazing!!) so again kinda disappointing bc I had to "dress it up" myself which wasn't the same.. I want to like this place but I don't think ordering takeout is the way to go!
