The Buttonwood is listed on Yelp as being Vietnamese. Uh, I don't think so. It is more Asian Fusion if anything with Taiwanese chicken, pakora, katsu curry, and bulgogi melt also in the menu. It is a long space, with an eclectic collection up front, and spaced out tables in the back. I ordered their bulgogi melt $12.50 to go, which is normally served with fries, but I was offered vegetables as an alternative, for which there is an upcharge. She gave us water while we waited! The vegetables were cauliflower, bell peppers and onions, a nice selection and cooked well. They were a bit highly black peppered. But the sandwich was tasty and not too sweet. This place is really cool! Walking in you're greeted by fabulous decor, the whole first area has mirrors and statues. It was a perfect stop after visiting the Walters that afternoon. We were greeted and sat quickly by the bartender, and ordered two delicious cocktails. Mine was the Passionfruit pisco sour, it was a little sweet but really good. We ordered a few things to share- the butter flute is a must try! The flavors are so interesting it's great to start. We also got the bacon fried rice which felt a little bland. Not sure if Vietnamese is the accurate description of the menu. There's a banh mi listed in the sandwich section but there's also katsu curry, Taiwanese salt and pepper chicken, pizza.... We stumbled upon this place during the an event in Mt Vernon. The front of it looks like a boutique; unsure if some of those plants were for sale. But nonetheless, the inside decorations and vibe is very nice. I made a reservation for Valentine's Day, and was seated right away when we arrived. I don't think the word has gotten out about this place. I believe it's the same owner of the Bun Shop. We tried the beignets, and absolutely loved the texture but the taste was a little bland...just needed a little something extra. Our main meal was the Katsu curry and it was excellent! The chicken was perfectly crispy, and the seasoning was perfection. We also had the earl grey crème Brulee...it was so unique and tasty! Would definitely recommend. So overall food was good, but the big winners were the drinks!! They had so many drinks available, and I can't wait to come back to try so many more. Highly recommend this place for the drinks. My waitress was lovely but the food was not. I ordered a tasty watermelon moijito and a chicken Caesar salad. The chicken came out dry, cold, under seasoned and with a weird taste. Instead of asking for a whole new salad to be made I just asked for a fresh chicken portion. What came out was quite different from what I was served originally. This place was amazing!! Had a very enjoyable late lunch my friend and son! The inside is gorgeous and very aesthetically pleasing! To start off our meals, we shared the compound butter flute which I highly recommend! For cocktails I had the indigo hour and my friend had the passion fruit pisco sour which were both delicious! Absolutely love this place! The food was great, my partner and I tried the katsu curry and braised ribs (both were delicious and well priced). Portion are good for one person, but still filling. The service was excellent, the waitress had a bunch of tables but we still felt as though we were treated with patience and care. I also really liked their cocktails, if you enjoy something smooth and sweet the passion fruit pesco was superb. The restaurant itself is beautiful! Came here on a Saturday night for date night. First thing I noticed was the vibes were immaculate, the whole time I felt like I was eating in a sculpture garden. The chairs were plush and comfortable and were positioned so that you felt like you had privacy but also felt integrated into the environment of the restaurant. We got the Taiwanese Salt and Pepper Chicken and the Vietnamese Spare Ribs and the Buttonwood Punch to share. The Taiwanese chicken was good but little basic in my opinion. The Vietnamese spare ribs on the other hand is a must have. The meat was perfectly cooked and fell right off the bone and the sauce mixed with the rice was delicious. What a great place to stumble upon. We were in the area visiting the art museum and wanted a good meal and boy did we find one. This is such a great space. It feel natural and open and luxurious without feeling luxe. It feels like you belong. It feels almost like something out of Italy? Like those vibes. Very cozy but open and nice but obtainable. However I would not recommend this place because it is clear whomever runs it doesn't give a crap about it or their employees. We ate here around 2 on a Saturday afternoon. There is no one at the front to greet you so it's fairly confusing if you're supposed to seat yourself or what. Everything took FOREVER and eventually we learned that due to call outs the entire restaurant plus the bar was being served by one young woman who was brand new and there were two members of the kitchen staff there and that's it. We never saw anyone who looked like a manager which is insane. Why would you leave one new person and two members of the kitchen staff to run a whole restaurant?? That would have been a time for the management or owner to come pitch in and help but that clearly did not happen. We were hungry around 3pm, which is when a lot of restaurants are closed, so we were happy to see the Buttonwood was nearby and had good reviews on Yelp. For good reason! We were the only people there, but that didn't matter because the waitperson was attentive and friendly. She whipped up the amazing cocktails that were so tasty I could have had a few. Since I was driving I stuck to just one. Seriously inventive and refreshing cocktails! She said they pride themselves on making tasty creations. To eat, there were several good looking options. To start I couldn't pass up the gruyere beignets. My spouse got the pepper and salt chicken bites. The chicken bites were the best tasting I've ever had. I couldn't finish the beignets- there were about 12 of them, so it's definitely a share plate. For the entree I got the roasted cauliflower and my spouse got the braised spare ribs. If you think you don't like cauliflower, you will change your mind after this dish. It's so flavorful! The spare ribs were eaten quickly so I'm assuming my spouse enjoyed them lol. This place is such a hidden gem. Really delicious high-quality food, my favorite is the pork bokit, and it's such an affordable meal. Priced like it's a few years ago. Such cool atmosphere, the decor is really unique, even the silverware is beautiful. Really diverse menu, I've tried and loved the caramelized onion fried rice, the chicken schnitzel, the pork bokit sandwich, the shoestring fries, and whichever appetizer was the bites of chicken and a dipping sauce. I found the Buttonwood by pure accident, but glad I did. I liked the ambiance and antique East Indian vibes. The buttonwood punch was a great option if you love sweeter drinks and for the price well worth it. The compound butter flute (flight) is what kept there past my initial quick drink pop in. The red is tomato chili fennel. It's flavorful and well seasoned, the green was curry not a fav, and the purple was lemon blueberry. The bread they paired with it was warm and pillowy.
