Seafood pho y'all. It is truly one of the better seafood pho's I've had in the greater Austin area. It's loaded with real bits of seafood and tons of fish balls. I love that their large size is ginormous. I'm a pho addict, so I can proudly say that a large sized pho is no problema for this gal! The noodles were cooked to perfection, with a chewy QQ consistency. The broth is flavorful and on the lighter side. Just the way I like it! There is also plenty of parking, and they have clean restrooms divided by men/women. Service is fast, as usual in pho places. However, I feel like there are still some adjustments they can make to make it better. There is an cobwebby-needs-cleaning vibe to pho dan that could use some updating. I go to different Vietnamese restaurants for their particular dish that I like; and this one I think has the best grilled pork chop rice plate. What sets this restaurant apart is that they use broken rice ( as the name indicates, the grain is broken before cooking so it gives off a different texture in your mouth) just how I would have it in Vietnam. The pork chop is marinated with just right amount of lemongrass and other ingredients I do not know and don't want to know . Phò Dan is in a strip mall off W Braker and N Lamar. Lots of shared parking with other shops and eateries. Food: Shrimp and pork rice roll was delicious. Two tightly wrapped rice paper rolls with sliced pork, shrimp, rice noodles, and lettuce are served with two bowls of peanut sauce. The brisket and meatball phò sat in a delicious broth filled with rice noodle, cilantro, and onion. Bean sprouts, jalapeño, and basil leaves were served on the side. Pork and egg roll rice noddle bowl was equally tasty, and the sweet vinegar sauce was served on the side. Service: Friendly, seated quickly. Let's not even get started on the amount of flies I've witnessed inside -- gross. A month ago I was served Thai basil that has been obviously munched away by aphids. This last weekend, I had a few wilted brown leaves. Both times, I asked for fresher sprigs, only to be ignored after successive requests and was only brought a plate after a friend and I implored at the checkout counter. I shrugged both times off as a fluke, even though it was a weeknight and they weren't that busy. This last weekend, I thought I'd give the place another shot, and see if I could remind myself why I was a patron for 4 consecutive years. I do not like leaving bad reviews but this place was so disappointing. We do not go to Vietnamese restaurants expecting good service. Usually the worse the service, the better the food. Bad service alone wouldn't make me write a review but the food was terrible. Servers also never came to check on us after dropping off food. The reviews for Bun Bo Hue at this place looked good and we were so excited to try it. They don't have cha lua with their BBH, I thought that was odd. They were out of basil and mint, which was disappointing but okay. The broth was muggy and fatty. The meat... or lack thereof, was at least 80% fat. We picked out the fatty pieces from our bowls and it added up to a whole plate of just chewy fat. That was it. Tried pho dan recently on a hot summer day. This place is pretty hyped by various food bloggers in the community so I wanted to try it out. First impressions was that this was one of the cleanest and more modern pho restaurants I've seen in austin. Now the food, I got the pho with lean brisket and meat ball, and my sister got the charbroiled pork with the pork skins and egg cake. Thoughts? I liked the pho, I got a small size and usually that fills me up at other restaurants but this was a American small for sure and I was still a bit hungry. Next time I'll go for the large. I think the charbroiled pork order was replaced with chicken since it looked pretty blonde, but it was still good. I ordered a beef pho. The service was so fast! I was very hungry so I really appreciated the fast turn around time. The soup and vegetables were very fresh. One thing I disliked was how stingy the waitress was with the lime. I requested more lime and she brought back one fourth of a lime that was cut into two pieces. I was shocked at the tiny lime that I received given how cheap limes are and how large my bowl of soup was. Overall the soup was very rich and really hit the spot. The shrimp and boiled pork spring rolls were a classic. The ingredients were fresh, and I liked how they brought out two sauce bowls for each of us to have our own without us even asking. The Bún bò Hu was not very flavorful but was better than the pho. A plus about the pho was that the large came with a TON of noodles, but the BEEF pho had such a strange CHICKEN and BUTTERY taste to it that not even hoisin sauce could mask it. The noodles were especially buttery, stuck together, and tore when I tried to pull them apart. I've grown up eating pho and have gone to many restaurants that serve it, but I've never tasted anything similar to the bowl I had here. Not sure if this is the result of COVID-19 or not, but ordering and payment is done at the counter before being seated. Perhaps this is done to prevent customers from dining and dashing or maybe laziness on the part of the business to take orders at the table? They do not skimp on their meat portions. My wife and I ordered the pho and bun bo hue, and were very surprised by the amount of meat brought forth. It was more than I can normally handle even on a hungry day. A large bowl of pho in my opinion can be shared among two people, and because of that I think the price is reasonable. I've also tried their fish dish with pork chop. I am usually really picky about where I get my pho. I only ever had one spot which was in Colorado that I really liked. Honestly this place is pretty good! Affordable and they don't skimp out on the amount of noodles they put in it! I also love that they have kid size pho, it's the perfect size for my 6 year old son. I've been going to Pho Dan for years, and I'm always satiated from the food. It's cheap and good. I usually order any kind of pho noodle soup without tripe, or their bun bo hue. The pho noodle soup is always good, and the meat portions are generous. They give you a heaping platter of vegetables such as cilantro, lettuce, and basil. The bun bo hue is just as good. Only they are less generous with their meat and pork blood. The service is lackluster. Don't expect much service with the exception of getting the food out to you. The workers are Curt, and you get your check at the end of your meal whenever you're ready. You need to go up to the front desk yourself. The population is mostly old Vietnamese couples. But you'll see customers who are not Vietnamese too. Don't come during lunch either. The traditional lunch times are packed from 12-1. Like packed to the point where you may have to wait for a table. Dinner isn't as busy, but expect to see people even as late as 8 PM. Parking is unreliable. If Pho Dan was the only place that was busy, then the parking would be plentiful. But Rice Bowl Cafe and Snow Monster are also located at that shopping center. You may have to resort to waiting for people to drive away before you can get a spot. The shopping center is narrow too. Expect for your car and another car driving parallel to each to barely not get scrapped. Backing out is also sketchy too. read more

I'd have to say Pho Dan gives Pho Saigon a run for their money when it comes to the best Pho in town. I was pleased with my recent visit back to Pho Dan, which was my first in well over a year. WTF did I wait so long??? It's really clean here, a refreshing change of pace from Pho Saigon - which at times can be somewhat busy and quite noisy. We were seated promptly, and since they have more TVs now they let me change the channel to watch the college football game. No one complained - yay! We got the spring rolls, and since there were 2 of us they brought out 2 separate bowls of peanut sauce (kudos!). That's so kewl, and they were pretty good too. Not the best spring rolls, but very respectable - - and I think slightly cheaper. I got the Pho Ga, my friend got the Pho Tai (beef). The broth was very light, we got plenty of veggies too - more kudos! My friend is Vietnamese, he said the broth here is slightly sweeter than Pho Saigon. I liked it just as much and can't tell the difference. On thing we could tell - - we didn't feel too tired or sleepy after our meals, which my friend said is usually the result of eating a MSG-filled meal (sleepiness). So if I had to guess, I don't think they put much MSG (if any) in their broth because we were good to go. Another kudos here - the tap water tastes better, so all in all it was an excellent 5 star experience as I will definitely make Pho Dan a more frequent part of my Pho Diet. read more

We came here on a Sunday early afternoon. It wasn't as busy considering how huge this restaurant is. The food was amazing. Pho was delicious and quantity was perfect for the cost. I would definitely come here again for the pho. However, there was a lot of miscommunication. We had a party of 7. My friend had to ask for water with no ice 3 times before she got some. My other buddy wanted to order some raw meat on the side for his pho, but they brought him some grilled one. They took it back and returned with it. Our other friend decided to just buy that grilled steak portion. They finally brought extra side of raw beef (brisket), but it was super frozen. My friend asked for a little bowl of hot soup, so he can dip it in it before eating. They never came with the hot soup for another 20-30 minutes. We all finished eating already and they brought it. Wow. One of the cleanest restaurants I've ever been to anywhere. Kudos to the owners. That said, the food here is amazing. Quick prompt service, huge portion sizes and flavorful whatever you get. For some reason 3 of us opted for extra large number 10s (it was cheap so why not) and we were expecting like we do with most places lots of soup but same amount of noodles and meat as a regular. NOT HERE. Oh my gosh...there must have been 3/4 of a pound of meat, freshly sliced, still kinda raw on top of your pho when you get it. Just wow. and then heaps of noodles and rich marrow infused broth. Its more cloudy than other pho broths, and not my absolute favorite, but its still really good....but overall just blown away considering Pho Saigon is across the street. I have eaten here and ordered take out at least a handful of times and each time the food has come out reliably delicious! I'm allergic to MSG so when I order pho from a restaurant that adds a lot of artificial flavors with MSG, I get terrible upset stomach and heartburn for days. Thankfully, I have not experienced this at Pho Dan. That is why I keep going back! The food is fresh and I trust that they won't make me sick! As for the atmosphere, it feels like any other Pho restaurant. Because of COVID, only half of the restaurant is open and they skip every other table. They also sanitize after each dining too. After realizing that these guys were already open at 8:30am, we immediately hopped in a cab and went on a mission to have some steaming hot bowls of pho to soak up the previous night's festivities. As soon as we were seated, I ordered an ice cold Cafe Sua Da. What an awesome pick-me-up; Freshly brewed and it had just the right amount of condensed milk and coloring. For apps, we shared the garden variety fresh shrimp rolls. It tastes just as you would expect with the only difference being that they stuff way more than your average amount of lettuce in them. Neither a positive or negative thing, just something I noticed. Next, I had their Seafood Pho which IMO wasn't the worst thing in the world but the noodles were still al dente and the amount of seafood was skimpy considering the protein-noodle ratio. It was literally what you see in the picture I included, 5 halved pieces of fish balls which were really only 2.5 fish balls along with 2 pieces of crab stick. Pretty dismal. I also don't recall the broth having very much flavor either but it may be because it's just not as good as the beef based broth which is more commonly served. In general, the pluses are the great hours of operation and the modern decor is probably the very best I've ever seen for a Vietnamese restaurant. This is only the second time I've ever had pho in my life but it was 1000% better than the first. I don't have too many pho places to compare to, but the portions are heavy. I got a small (they come in small, large, and extra large) chicken pho bowl and wasn't able to finish. The broth is good by itself, but even better when you dress it up. Lol hello everyone, it's me again--the harsh critic of Austin's pho restaurants. All I can say is the broth was not that flavorful, I got a really sad small plate of bean sprouts and mints (I like to load my bowl with this stuff guys!), and the whole experience just was not memorable. My boyfriend had the bun bo hue, and that was just...watery? I don't know it was really lacking that depth of flavor that bun bo hue should have.
