Philter is an oasis of excellent food, atmosphere and handcrafted beverages, justifiably loved by locals and visitors. May is the perfect time to relax with a delicious iced tea outside in the sun. You will never be rushed or disturbed, but there is a high probability your people-watching will be interrupted by saying hello to friends as they pop in for the famous coffee, latte, espresso, etc. My favorite sandwich is the hummus, red pepper and cucumber, but you really can't miss with any selection. Also look for the specials, as they are seasonal and interesting and a good way to vary your 'go-to' picks. Look around and appreciate the surprising and elegant details in decor (Harry Bertoia, Emeco, custom crafted salvaged barn wood tables, etc), the music, and the art. Though my toddler-toting days are over, I love how families are welcomed through thoughtful touches and menu choices so adults and adults-with-kids can enjoy Philter together. Was visiting Kennett Square for a birthday weekend. Randomly found Philter while we were walking around and were excited to get coffee. The space is nicely decorated with a lot of cute stuff to offer. Unfortunately we were waiting out turn with only one person in front of us in line. No one welcomed us, said hi or acknowledged out existence (we were 5 people). The person working the check out chose to continue talking to their friend ordering about their living situation and futures pretending there wasn't anyone else in the space. An employee walked into the space to grab something and completely ignored us. After being ignored for a significant period of time we left. Philter has, put simply, the best coffee in the world. After my coffee experience in Italy I thought I could never go back to bland, burnt-tasting coffee served at popular coffee joints. Luckily I discovered Philter and do I dare say they may have actually surpassed Rome's espresso? If not they certainly matched it. I do know this for sure, when your two teen-aged kids rave about their laté with words like "smooth and velvety", it's got to be something special. The kids were right! Philter does not serve your average cup of coffee. They've got it down to a perfect science, the way coffee should be made but usually isn't. As a result, Philter is a coffee Nirvana. read more

The staff is friendly, and knowledgeable about their coffee! Oh, so the coffee is amazing!
