Really enjoyed Philter! High quality coffee and great atmosphere! Lots of plants and some cute local art for sale. Don't sleep on the KSQ breakfast sandwich. The combination of mushrooms, herbs, aioli, and goey egg were perfect! This is a wonderful place to start your day if your visiting Kennett Square or Longwood Gardens! read more

Great coffee and breakfast spot. Lots of vegetarian options - everything is add meat. We had a weekend morning breakfast and it was fairly crowded but we got a table. The sandwiches were very tasty and the coffee prepared with care. read more

Service was nice and timely. The latte was not strong and also lacked caramel flavor. The latte tasted more of milk than coffee/espresso. read more

Awesome coffee and people!! Breakfast sammie and bowl were delicious. Service was excellent.

What a treat! My friends and I were in the area to visit Longwood Gardens, so we decided to stop by Philter. I loved the ambience inside and found it very comfortable and cozy. For their drink selections, they seemed pretty standard. There was this specialty mocha that sounded intriguing, but I didn't end up getting it. I opted for an iced hazelnut latte, and wow! it was good. I also liked that they offer the option to get your order for dine-in or to-go, so my latte was served in a stainless steel cup which was a fun touch. Overall, great vibes and great coffee! read more

I came up to buy beans and I was not disappointed. Parking can be a little tricky but if you aren't afraid to walk a block you'll be fine. Beans are pricey but delicious. I'm going to add them to my rotation. read more

Great coffee for a great price + great vibes. 2.50 for a 16oz coffee AND oatmilk wasn't extra!!Came in on a rainy day with friends and we could've sat for hours. It's cozy, inviting, and feels like a living room. Friendly staff with a diverse menu of drinks. Didn't try any of the food tho. Would recommend, and seems like a great place to work for a few hours and get comfy, especially by the windows! Could see it getting a little crowded tho, and run out of places to sit. No outside seating options either. read more

This place is alright. Unfortunate that it seems like the only cafe in the area. Food was alright, drinks are pretty good. Just have never liked the vibe. Staff is decent. read more

Oh so delicious, kind, cute, and worth a stop! When visiting family in the area I decided to seek out a spot serving Oatly oatmilk and was overjoyed to find Philter! Starting with an oatmilk Latte, the espresso was on point well rounded and smooth - low acidity and high joy. My oatmilk matcha was equally as delicious - even though it was sweetened it was not sugary but rather simply pleasant! I was grateful for the gluten free vegan chia pudding made with coconut milk and matcha flavor - incredible addition flry travels. Can't wait to come back and enjoy an afternoon of reading in this cute cafe with rustic decor, awesome local art, intriguing chocolates and tea, and a wonderful atmosphere. Definitely recommend for great service, style, and selection! read more

Such a lovely little coffee shop right in the heart of KSQ! You walk in surrounded by local fare and plants and are warmly greeted by the baristas. They have every coffee you could dream of. (Or teas if you're like me and can't always do the whole "coffee thing") Their chai is absolutely delicious! It's easy to get a too sweet syrupy chai but their is really well balanced and bright! My husband really loved his long black, which is a richer and stronger americano. They have some pastries and breakfast sandwiches there for those would would like a bite with their brews, all around, a darling place! read more

Great coffee everytime! I order cortados. When I'm looking for a place to bring friends, this is my goto

So so so delicious!!! I had the spicy eggs on baguette!!! Additionally, the house brew with a shot of espresso. I like my coffee strong and it was perfect. My husband had the classic on sourdough with a caramel cappuccino. He loved the whole thing. Together with the background jazzy music and all the plants...the perfect vibe for a day out! read more

Talulah's across the street is for families, if you're single, this is the spot for you! Absolutely the best lattes around and the baked goods are pretty darn good too. So come in for that latte and hang or get one to go, you'll keep coming back for more! Baristas are quite friendly and have perfected their craft. The place is usually quiet and chill (except for that occasional family) lol. read more

You can tell that some places take pride in their coffee. This is one of them. My iced coffee had a nice undertone of flavor. It doesn't have to be too bold. It just hit the tastebuds different if you know what I mean. Plus, a pretty darn good breakfast sandwich on the croissant. I tend to be more of a fan of fresh off the grill. But these did the trick nicely. read more

tl;dr a large, trendy coffee joint in downtown Kennett Square serving up an assortment of java brews and small bites Nestled between boutiques and mom-and-pop storefronts, java aromas from Philter coffee greet you before even opening the front door. The large space is filled edge-to-edge with tastefully worn wooden tables and metal chairs. The grey walls showcase graffiti portraits from local artists, emphasized by overhanging lights. Off-beat instrumental tunes buzz quietly among the chatter of patrons. Recycled wooden and metal furnishings complement a bevy of knickknacks, including custom metalwork and a working typewriter. My partner and I stopped in during our past day-trip to Kennett Square. The rotating menu was chalked onto a wooden board, and we opted to try a cup of single-origin Brazil Pereira. After a brief interlude where the baristas forgot our order (they made up for it by giving us a second cup of joe), we had the chance to sample our brew. A nutty aroma and initial burst of sweetness faded into a smooth, chocolatey bitterness. Paying a fair price of $4.50 for my cup, I could see myself opting for Philter for a catch-up with a friend. But with a shocking dearth of outlets and a relatively boisterous ambiance, Philter never would be my go-to workplace. read more

Stopped by for some coffee and a quick bite to eat for breakfast. This is such a neat coffee shop. We showed my little niece all the plants, explored the beautiful artwork, and ordered coffee and the egg sandwiches. We thought the coffee was great but the sandwich was just okay. The prices are very good for the quality of their coffee and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Would recommend Philter for their coffee! read more

Spent a few days in Kennett square and visited Philter every day - a nice little coffee shop with a cool vibe. Loved the seats inside facing the street. Ordered breakfast both days - the prosciutto sandwich was decent, but a bit messy. The ham egg and cheddar was delicious, although they could use better ham instead of deli slices but it's all good the eggs were fluffy and delicious and croissant complimented it well. The iced lattes were also good, and they have oat milk which is nice. If you're in the area I would definitely stop in here. read more

Good drink, got London fog.... Nice barista. Seems like a pretty nice place to relax.

My friends and I got Philter for breakfast while in the area and loved it! The coffee was absolutely delicious (I got a cortado, while my friends got a drip coffee and a latte), and I also got an egg and cheese croissant which really hit the spot. The space inside was super cute, with lots of products from local vendors. Overall, I highly recommend checking out Philter if you're in Kennett Square! read more

I'm not often in Kennett Square, but Philter has quickly become my go-to spot for a grab-and-go drink or to chill if I have to wait around a bit. It's a rather hipster place (definitely of the third wave coffee variety) with a cozy atmosphere and a good number of tables inside. The staff is super friendly and answered the many questions I had about their menu and drinks. The first time I was there, they made my drink with dairy milk instead of almond milk, but the other times I've been, they have been more careful and accurate. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Philter serves Ceremony Coffee, a great roaster that we discovered in Annapolis a few months ago. Their pourovers and cappuccino are quite good, although their hot chocolate was a little watery (can be made dairy free). Next time I would go for the version made with the speciality hot chocolate mix, even if that means paying a bit more. I personally wouldn't get their chai latte (they use Oregon Chai concentrate), but if you like sweet, vanilla-y versions, go for it. One time the Tall Man and I grabbed breakfast, both getting breakfast sandwiches. The Tall Man's was gooey and tasty, a mostly cheesy, saucy mess. I got mine gluten-free on a salad, which ended up being lighty dressed greens with a very thin slice of ham and somewhat overcooked scrambled egg cooked in one of those round form pans -- would be fine on a sandwich, but without the bun and cheese, it was a little dry. They do have gluten-free pastry options, which are small and pretty decent but a bit pricey for the portion. Despite some hiccups, I am still a fan and will be coming back to Philter soon. read more

I need to eat gluten-free and dairy-free these days, and Philter had food and beverage options that worked well. They had a tasty selection of gluten-free breakfast loafs -- I chose the Pumpkin Loaf -- and my oatmilk latte was well-prepared. For the gluten-eating spouses, they have a selection of hot breakfast sandwiches, which I heard was delicious. Service was very friendly and patient with me, and the ambiance was cozy and peaceful. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in town. read more

This was the perfect coffee place! It's a lot bigger than I expected and the inside has plenty of room. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon and it got busy around 3, but other than that there was ample seating. Loved the interior, and there's some window seating with plants as well. For coffee, they have a wide selection. I got a hazelnut soy latte which was amazing. They also provide some sandwiches and food, and some various bread and muffins. I got the egg and salmon on sourdough bread and it was the perfect afternoon snack! There's street parking outside and a couple of cute shops surrounding the store. I will definitely be back to study or do work! read more

Lines are always long and service slow. Not the place to go for a quick cup of coffee. They need a self-serve coffee bar.

Spent the night at the Marriott next to longwood gardens and popped in here for a quite bite before heading home! My girlfriend loved the summer coffee! She had the spicy eggs and I got the eggs and prosciutto on salad! The eggs were really fresh! And the provolone cheese melted on my eggs and prosciutto was the perfect amount of sharp when combined with the salad dressing. It came with a red pepper type of sauce that I did not like (I ordered ToGo so this was in its own small container on the side so I was glad). The dressing was like a Dijon vinaigrette that complimented the arugula and eggs really well. The ambiance was so modern and fresh and the staff were very polite and patient. They answered all of our questions and gave great suggestions! The bathrooms are unisex which is always a plus. read more

I would check out Philter out if you're looking for an aesthetic small-business coffee shop to visit! As a Kennett local i wouldn't go there regularly. Overall the food tastes great, and the coffee is ok, but recently it's all become too overpriced. I also had a handful of instances where I asked for decaf but was served regular which is not a fun surprise. read more
