I called 20 minutes before closing and nobody picked up the phone. Drove over and arrived 15 minutes before closing and was denied service. I've eaten here dozens of times before and this was very disappointing. Another family arrived at the same time it was also denied service. Just change your closing hour to half an hour earlier to avoid wasting your customers' time. The young man working said that they close the grill 30 minutes before closing. No harm done as long as you change your closing hours to reflect that. read more

I am a fan of Jersey Mikes and so on, my brother reminded me of this place, that its amazing and so on, so gave it 3 more shots over the past few months. First time shroom and steak great, next time the one with the peppers and cheese wiz, the peppers were sweet ruined the whole sandwich, sweet Philly steak no thanks, 3rd time went back the shroom and steak good again, the fries sucked on both visits, 3rd visit passed on those, the bread and prep is cool, but honestly the lack of fries, and the attitude of the same two guys that worked there on the 3 visits is kind of subpar, maybe the owner should look into hiring some welcoming faces, for what you pay close to $20 with tax, coke, fries, your money will be good elsewhere read more

All extremely delicious. I tried the pizza fries today. They are fries with marinara and a nacho(?) cheese sauce. The fries were delicious, but the sauces weren't really to my taste. After a painstaking ordering process in which this guy seemed to have no idea what I meant at any point, my fiance was supposed to have a mushroom cheese steak with cheese whiz. The best Philly Cheesesteak sandwich we have ever had so far...A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! The Man and I come here often when we're really hungry for lunch! None of us has ever been to Philly but we've tried many Philly Cheesesteaks in Orange County and nothing can beat Philly's Best. We always get the cheesesteaks with mushrooms and provolone cheese. The beef is totally tender and juicy, not at all dry or greasy. The mushrooms and cheese is the perfect compliment to the meat. I am absolutely IN LOVE with the awesome all-purpose seasoning on every table. The reason I'm giving this place four stars is the "Cash Only" policy. I always have cash on me, but many people don't. Another thing is, we've noticed that they never give you a receipt. The last three times we went to eat, we saw that they charged us six dollars extra for no reason! And this being repeated three time, it is hard to see it as a mistake! They're great, and I think this is the only location that only takes cash. There's nothing like eating thick, neon orange colored, processed cheese to brighten up your day. Cheez Whiz is the epitome of food that tastes "so good, it's so bad." It also reminds me of my childhood, as my face would light up if I got a Handi-Snack in my Spider-Man metal lunch box. Bananas and apples and raisins? For a 5th grader, that's sooooo uncool. Whiz is a must in your philly cheesesteak. It's the blue collar construction worker of cheeses vs. something snooty like provolone. That icky, gooey, and sticky cheese of mess binds everything together. The bread, the meat, mushrooms, sweet peppers, grilled onions, and mushrooms all seem to sing in harmony with the presence of whiz. Flavor-wise, the peppers gave the sandwich a tart, crisp crunch to balance out all the meat. Although the thinly-sliced ribeye was nicely grilled and more than plentiful, I thought it was somewhat bland and needed a little more salt or seasoning. And if you want more crunch, you can help yourself with more sweet peppers on the side. You can't help but stare at all the cheesy (no pun intended) autographed Philly memorabilia plastered on the walls while you're loading up on the pickles. I always hear about Pat vs. Genos for the battle of cheesesteak supremacy, at least for tourists anyway. It's like a small sports bar inside, but with Philly decor. Seeing the mural of the Philadelphia cityscape and a Rocky poster on the wall got me excited for my trip there this fall. I have never liked a cheesesteak until I tried the one here. The cheesesteak is made to order and the steak is cooked on the flat top just before it is sandwiched between a bun imported from the east coast. I like mine with grilled peppers and grilled onions. The amount of cheese is just right and doesn't smother the whole thing where it masks the steak. The other sandwich I really like here is the Italian sub. It is packed with Boar's Head cold cuts, and drizzled with vinegar and oil -- no mayo in sight! Add some of the pepper relish to it and it is one of the best cold sandwiches I've ever eaten. I'm the first to admit that I will rate a place higher than it deserves if it taps into nostalgic feelings and emotions or if it somehow reminds me of the great food I had growing up in Seattle. The sandwich was good. The bread was soft and delicious and the thinly cut beef combined with the cheese was really great. I gave the okay for onions which I expected to be grilled. I think they grilled them for 2 seconds as the onion chunks were mostly raw and I don't like raw onions on my sandwiches so I ended up scraping them off. Are they suppose to be thoroughly grilled, slightly grilled, or raw? I have no clue. My fruit jelly tastykake was fine. Only marginally better than a twinkie. I can hear the collective groans of all the east coasters as they yell that I have no idea what I'm talking about. I thought it was good and I'll be back someday. This is a chain which I find odd as for cheese steak places - never heard of this before. I am shocked and happy that they are doing well. I was in OC a few weeks back and was able to try this place. It was very busy which is always a good sign. I ordered the Philly mushroom steak and was pleased. The taste was subtle and the cheese was melted. I would like to have had more taste from the shrooms and the meat as stated was mild and I like more flavor. Would I try it again, maybe, except I would try their hoagies to see how they compare. A nice hidden gem here in Irvine. You can tell a lot of locals come here. My friend that grew up in Irvine told me about this place. I can't talk about the sandwiches but I had their chicken salad and it was pretty tasty. They do use the cheap lettuce at the bottom for the greens though. Don't expect any fancy greens. (perfect meat to bread ratio) Unlike Jimmy Johns meats which blows, Philly's Best uses "Boars Head" meats and you can really taste the difference in quality. Price wise, we thought was pretty reasonable for what they charge. If you are into the ("Keto")genic Meal Plan or Paleo, they also make the same sandwiches in a form of a salad bowl, where you have many choices of meats or tuna under "salads" listing. (sure beats hum drum cauliflower rice!) again, price wise, we thought their salad prices were very reasonable a good size meat-cheese, fresh lettuce and vegetable toppings in a salad bowl. IMPORTANT NOTE: The 2 star rating is just for the sandwich I ordered -- the PHILLY TUNA HOAGIE (Chunk light tuna, lettuce and tomato, cheese is optional). A big mistake on my part to try and be healthy when stepping into a restaurant that specializes in Philly Cheesesteaks and order a tuna sandwich. All I remember is a whole lot of cold tuna slapped onto a long, cold bun and how difficult it was to eat it without the help of a fork (the tuna kept slipping out). I admit, you get your money's worth with all the tuna, but the tuna overall wasn't special. In my opinion, it tasted a bit like canned tuna that was dolled up. There was so much tuna that the bread barely made a difference (which can be good since some people prefer more the "meaty" part of the sandwich). I prefer to have a good balanced meat-bread ratio with my sandwichces. The bread that made up the sandwich wasn't all that either. It was cold (assuming that it was a cold sandwich) but nothing really stood out. Although I was able to finish the entire sandwich, on account of feeling my stomach expand twice its size, I only felt obligated to because the hoagie was pricey and I didn't want to waste my money (I even used a coupon). But a "steak, whiz, with onions," (i've heard thats how you're supposed to order...) they do a decent job. Their Cheese whiz is delightfully processed cheeze, muy bueno. The Provolone is also good...
