Steak fries
Sylvie C.

I love love love getting my steak fries and subs from John's. I know of nowhere else that has such wonderful artery clogging food stuffs. It makes my day every time I get to eat them. There's no online ordering that works even if it has the Clover order system set up. But in-person ordering doesn't take too long and it ends up being better. You will get to walk away with hot fresh fries that comes with delectable ranch sauce. It's my favorite things ever. Possibly more than the sub itself. I wish I am kidding. The sub is extremely filling so if eating alone, best to do a half instead of whole. I like getting a whole so I can have some now and later. Aside from the philly cheesesteak sub, my other favorite is the Godfather. It's actually hard to pick between the two because both are wonderful. Can't wait to get my weekly fix again next weekend!

Delicious cheesesteaks! Yummy sides too like the deep fried zucchini. Great service always!! Plenty of parking! Cool decor...There's even a picture with Kobe.

Wow! Totally blown away by this place! I'm originally from Philadelphia and this place is a must try! If you've never experienced a real cheese steak you're going to get it here. I bought the original cheese steak with just white American cheese, steak, and salt and pepper. The cashier was polite and friendly and the atmosphere is definitely a chill vibe. I will definitely revisit here often. Thank you John's Philly Grille!!!

Cheese steak with peppers and onions

The menu looked overwhelming but the nice young lady at the register helped us navigate what we wanted. I got the regular cheese steak with peppers and onions and an order of fries. The bread was soft with good texture and the steak was seasoned perfectly. The fries were piping hot with good seasoning and came in a separate bag. Yes, a bag of fries! Overall, good experience and enjoyed all the Philly memorabilia on the walls! I've been to the other location on Beach Blvd. But this location you can sit inside and not just outside.

One of the best philly cheesesteak I have had in Orange County. I gave the mushroom philly cheesesteak a try and it did not disappoint. Good sized portions with lots of different options will definitely come back and try other sandwiches. I also recommend getting the hot sauce that they offer, gives it a good kick with lots of flavor

Wow, look at the size of this sandwich. Freakin' huge. Delicious ingredients. Definitely will be back again! Best sandwich in Southern California.

They don't got Whiz! Cheez Whiz, that is. But they do have Tastykake (yeah!) First visit, and one of the better Philly cheesesteaks I've had. I ordered a half Mushroom Cheesesteak ($8.75), which had a nice roll, a decent amount of meat that was well seasoned, mushrooms, and Provolone cheese. Unfortunately, when I asked for Cheez Whiz (processed cheese sauce that's oh so yummy!), I was told they don't offer it. I skipped the grilled onions and hot peppers, but you can get them with your standard sandwiches. I wasn't super hungry, so I opted for a half order of fries (not on the menu board, but available for $2.95), and a standard fountain soda ($2.35), which comes with free refills. They served "steak fries", and the half order was plenty big. As any great Philly cheesesteak shop should, they carry Tastykake dessert products, so I picked up a pack of Butterscotch Krimpets ($3.45) to go, as well as a couple bottles of Hank's Gourmet sodas ($2.95 ea.) I got Root Beer and Cream Soda, but they carry Orange as well. There are plenty of tables inside, and a couple small ones out front. Parking is easy in the large private lot. I would definitely return when I'm in the area.

Taking a bite of the pastrami...

Sometimes I just don't review because it is a great place, redundant, and we enjoy the food. This time I thought that I needed to update the review with our most recent visit to John's Philly Grille. We were surprised to see a nice busy place as we entered the small almost hole in the wall. Our turn to order. The lovely missus really likes #2 GR PEP CZ SK HALF with onions but no hot peppers. I am still on that difficult quest for a stellar pastrami sandwich my way, thus I ordered #23 PASTR WHOLE, no onions.. no cheese... no hot peppers...yes on pckles.... EZ Mustard, light mayo and HOT grilled. Two lemonades are brought to the table since there is no refilling. One bag of CHIPS. We sat at a table now that some of the crowd has departed. Oh boy, the sandwiches came all wrapped in white butcher paper. After two trials of pastrami at other sandwich places, "Perfect" is how I describe the John's Philly Grille abundance of Pastrami with pickles inside a tasty and crusty hoagie roll. We enjoyed John's Philly Grille and we will certainly be back for more.

I would eat here almost 3x a week back then sinced I work Nextdoor. Although it's been more than 10yrs....a cheesesteak shouldn't be that much different...was kinda disappointed...dry no flavor and barely any cheese. Pastrami...too salty and a bit dry as well. Then I heard new owner took over...might explained it.

"John's Special" Cheese Steak Hoagie & Fried Zucchini
Ryan N.

Came here for lunch and ordered "John's Special" Cheese Steak Hoagie with a side of Fried Zucchini for a total of $27. Sandwich was properly filled with savory meat, and the cheese melted nicely into it. The pairing veggies were just slightly dry, and felt it brought the quality of the sandwich down a bit. The fried zucchini was alright, the breading was cakey on in the inside. Service was quick and friendly, overall had a good experience and a solid sandwich. Would have to come back and try some other sandwiches.

First off the potato wedge was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The chicken was crispy even after 25 mins on the road. It was juicy and the Cajun seasoning wasn't too salty. Fish sandwich $14 - this was equally delicious! The fish was tender and crispy. Basic sandwich filling and sauce but delicious because it was so simple. This is such a hole in a wall type of restaurant and the couple team is so kind!

The owner greets everyone as soon as they walk in. She's so sweet. Her husband takes the orders and is nice as well. We can last night for dinner and came back just right now for a late lunch/pre-dinner. Last night we ordered the 4 piece lemon pepper with potato wedges and mac salad. Today I ordered 3 lemon pepper legs, my bf ordered 1 Cajun thigh, 2 Cajun breast and small fries. OMG....the seasoning is sooooo yummy! The chicken is super crispy, I love how it's crispy, but not greasy. The Cajun is also good, but I think lemon pepper is my favorite. I still want to try the original. The fries are also very crispy, but not greasy at all. They also have chips, sodas, snapple, and sandwiches. There's plenty of seats. We dined in both days, but did notice a lot of people just order to go, or some place phone orders because they would just walk in and pick up.
