Dropped by for a Philly cheesesteak since this location is super close to the mall. It's located right next to the liquor store, and while the kitchen might be tiny, these folks know how to make a really great sandwich. A giant Philly cheesesteak made with bread baked in-house is done pretty well here. Ribeye, peppers, onions and cheese...simple ingredients but cooked well and assembled with care. They've got Tasty Kake for dessert and plenty of sodas from the East coast if you want a nostalgic experience. Service is great here. Everything is made to order so a little patience is required. The cold subs are just as good as the PhillySteak sandwiches. The cold sub was the Old World Italian. The Full is ginormous filled with layers upon layers. You just need to experience it! The hot sub was the Traditional Philly Cheesesteak ..... LOADED! The Full is exactly how you will feel (actually beyond full) after finishing this delectable, FANtastic, and gigantic sub. Hands down, one of the best, if not the best, locally in OC. Highly recommend trying either of them and judge for yourself. Packed with meat that was well seasoned (peppery), mushrooms, mayo, and my favorite, Cheez Whiz (processed cheese sauce that's oh so yummy!). I skipped the grilled onions and green peppers, but you can get them with your standard sandwiches. I also got an order of cheese fries, which were covered with melted provolone and some herb seasoning. The soda machine was out of gas the day I visited, but that didn't detract from the experience at all. As any great Philly cheesesteak shop should, they carry Tastykake dessert products. There are a few tables inside and a little larger outdoor patio dining area. Parking in the lot is limited, but there is side street parking available. I highly recommend this place! read more

It is awesome that Costa Mesa is home to 2 OUTSTANDING Philly Cheesesteak shops...and they easily rival some of the best Philly Cheesesteak shops in Philly. I spent years going to college in Philly, and ate way too many Philly cheesesteaks, and I can attest that King's From Philly is a solid Top 10, right next to Frank's. I still have to give the slight edge to Frank's admittedly though...which has a slightly better bread with a tiny crisp to it hiding a chewy center, and their flavor of the Frank's Choice sandwich is still easily one of the best ever. But when it comes to overall sandwich selections, Philly cheesesteak fries and options, From Philly has the edge on top above Frank's. Here is what I think is outstanding at this place: -- Philly Chicken Cheesesteak is EASILY THE BEST CHICKEN CHEESESTEAK I've ever had...and i've literally eaten dozens of Chicken Cheesesteaks all over Philly!! Somehow, the Chicken Cheesesteak is very moist and packed with flavor that is very rare to find in Philly. Outstanding sandwich!! 10/10! -- Regular Cheesesteaks are very good, but a tad pricey compared to Frank's for the size of the sandwich. I'd' give this place a 9/10. I have no idea what happened to this place. I came here a few years ago and I really enjoyed my Philly cheesesteak. This time I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and a mortadella sandwich. They were both so bad, that I didn't even finish them. The meat on both was so bad a so little that I felt like I was eating only bread. Came here Monday 04/24/2023. From Philly is a sandwich shop specializing in Cheesesteaks. They also sell sides like potato salad, chips, etc. I got the #1 original and posted a picture of the menu here. There's not too much to say here. It's a small shop with no line and no crowd. Most people probably wouldn't eat inside here, just take the sandwich somewhere else. They're decently generous with the meat portion but the sandwich is relatively pricey. I walked into this place with my sister a while ago, and was pleasantly surprised by the small-store vibes. They have a bunch of fridges in the back for drinks and prepared food, and a fountain for soda on the side. Seating is sparse, but there are enough tables for maybe 20-30 people (if you include outside). This is your local, bodega style Philly Cheesesteak. Because of that, we ordered promptly, and they began work on our sandwiches. It took maybe 8-12 minutes to come out, but it was steaming and wrapped perfectly when we went to open them. Be careful not to burn yourself! I took a bite and nearly did! Upon the bite, I tasted the molten cheese, some peppers, and the steak, of course. Texturally, it was a perfect bite, but I felt like the beef was a little under-seasoned. It was a tad bland, for my taste. That being said, texture isn't something that's easy to nail. The bread was perfect, the cheese, and the peppers too. I want to give it another chance, so I'll come back at some point. Come by and give it a try and tell them what you think! read more

Never, ever in my entire life, have I felt so overly bad about having done business with a given place! Went there last week for the first time, to purchase a sandwich. I ordered a large Italian sub sandwich for $17.99. By far, the worst sandwich I've ever had, hands down without a doubt in my lifetime. Unfortunately, I had no way of seeing the person preparing my sandwich, because they were hidden in the far corner of the place where visibility of the sandwich preparer is simply not possible. Also, unfortunately for me, I didn't eat the joke of a sandwich there, because it was a takeout order which I ate at home. Had I eaten the thing there, the moment I would have seen the thing, I would have immediately taken it back to the counter where the order was placed. I simply would have said, "Are you serious, this is the best you can do for $17.99?" I then would have proceeded to kindly ask for a refund and would have left the place in absolute disgust! Not only was this joke of a sandwich extremely small in size for a large one, but there was hardly any meat on it. Each time I'd take a bite, for the most part all I would taste was the roll used to make the thing with, lots of lettuce, a little mustard and mayonnaise and a minimal amount of cheese and salami along the way. The times that happened were few and far between. For $17.99, I expected a lot more or at the very least something respectable! That joke of a sandwich was so dry, I'm surprised I didn't choke on it along the way. If I wouldn't have been as hungry as I was at the time, I would have thrown the joke of a sandwich in the trash or would have offered it to the crows outside. Maybe not though. Perhaps the crows wouldn't have liked it either, even though they wouldn't have had to pay for it. In conclusion, if you're in the market for a good quality sandwich, that will fill you up at a reasonable price, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but not to this ripoff place!...You're welcome for saving you $17.99. read more

MY ORDER: - Chicken Philly (no mushrooms, no american cheese, added avocado) -- 5/5 - Side Fries -- 4/5 (seasoning was more like a dry rub that you put on wings) - Hank's Irish Ginger Ale (crisp and refreshing) I appreciate that they make all their food to order so it was all nice and hot. Stopped here for dinner after picking up hubby from the auto repair shop down the street. No line and no crowd sometimes makes us skeptical but there were some good reviews so we decided to try it out. There were several people in and out picking up take out orders as we sat and waited for our food. Wait time wasn't that bad. Hubby got the Italian sausage, Little O and I split a large original Philly cheesesteak sandwich and we ordered fries and onion rings. Everything was fresh and tasty. Be sure you ask for extra napkins because you will need them. There were two TVs on so it was a good place to sit and eat. We ordered our usual Philly cheesesteak sandwich and waited... and waited. 20 minutes go by and we get our sandwiches. I wanted to try out their Philly Cheesesteak, but then got interested in being a bit healthier with a straight ham and cheese sandwich - with lots of veggies. The good news is that the bread was crusty and fresh and the veggies were also very fresh. The not-as-good news is that I was slightly disappointed with the flavor and the amount of the Boars Head ham on the sandwich. It really didn't seem like regular Boars Head deliciousness, so I'm not sure if it was just my taste buds that day or something else. I will go by and try them again.
