There are now three Philly's Best restaurants that make a top quality CheeseSteak. Huntington Beach,Burbank, and this place in Irvine. Stopped in here for lunch while waiting for my BFF at training. Any time ordering a cheesesteak, my practice is to let them know I'm from Nu Joisey. So everybody's on the same page, that we know what a cheesesteak is supposed to taste like. This one was excellent. It looked good that they were cooking properly on the grill. Onion should be cooked separately from the meat and the cheese melted on the grill. Done just right. 3.5 stars My husband's a fan, because he eats meat, but I've always abstained bc I assumed they didn't have a veggie option... I was wrong! They have a vegetarian sandwich that comes with cheese, peppers, and onions (lettuce/tomato optional) on that yummy bread, and while it isn't my favorite sandwich anywhere, it's solid- exactly what you'd expect. The onion rings are excellent, even better than the fries, though I'd recommend also getting a side of ranch to go with it. I think the fries got soggy in the bag, and maybe could have been crispier to begin with, so if I ever go back I'll probably ask that. read more

The fries are made fresh so they're crispy and hot. Sprinkle on some of that ol' bay seasoning and you've got yourself a highly addictive appetizer. First time ever and I think this could be a monthly or bimonthly rotation. The establishment is located right next to Ramen 17 in a strip plaza off Barranca. It's near Woodbridge High School so in the summer, it gets a little busy. My coworkers and I decided to have a team lunch so it was about six of us to a table. The place is pretty small with a max occupancy of about 30-40. Menus are on the wall or on the counter in front of the cashier. I had narrowed down my options to Philly's Best or Cheesesteak with pepperoni. I asked the cashier which one is better and without hesitation, the pepperoni rose above. In about 10 minutes, they call your order by name to let you know it's ready. The sandwich was massive and a lot of food, but it was definitely cheesy with pepperoni in each bite. The steak was tender and easy to chew through and I thought the flavor was magnificent, but I don't really have anything to compare for standards. It's a pretty decent meal to keep me full all day if I was on a one meal a day plan. I came through for lunch with co-workers and essentially didn't have my next meal until breakfast the next day. I now understand why it's a total sleeper or the lunch killer. Still, I would like to come back again to try more of their options for cheesesteaks. read more

Solid place for a Philly. Nothing super great, but it's good. It fits the bill when the craving comes but I don't have time or can't be bothered to drive out to Costa Mesa for Frank's Philadelphia. As I was actually born in Philadelphia and have eaten their fare many a times, I think I'm entitled to be at least a little snobby when comparing this to actual Philly cheesesteaks. If you've never been to Philly, this place could easily pull off a 4 star rating. I'm just being particularly harsh as I'm drawing a strict comparison to "the real deal." So please do note my slight bias! I think the real winner here is the amount of meat they give you. It's hefty, and if you're a meat-eater then this would be right up your alley. I do find it odd that they serve their sandwiches with American cheese by default (which, btw, is gross - ask for provolone). They also don't have standard green bell peppers. They did have some sort of green pepper there, but it tasted kinda pickled? It wasn't really my thing, in any case. I did ask for extra grilled onions and they absolutely delivered on that, so kudos for soothing my substantial love for onions. : ) But yeah, I've definitely had worse - much, much worse to be real with you all. I had to get the bad taste out of my mouth, I had "Dave's Hot Chicken" that tasted like a bag of garbage juice left in a hot car. Then I dropped by this old spot I remembered from high school. It's still in business, the same old greasy sandwiches that are dripping with cheesey meat goodness. It absolutely hit the spot, ordered the "Philly's Best" because it has peppers and the fries were awesome too. They're not those crappy cheap crinkle cut fries, they're actual steak fries. They were delicious, and smothered in cheese. Washed it down with a coke, and all I could do was pat my belly. It was so good, my toilet is going to hate me but it's worth it, 5 stars. read more

Being from the East Coast, every now and then i crave a good Philly cheesesteak. Ill be honest, Ive had better, much better. However, lets break down this "which" to the nuts and bolts. What did I order? A philly with onions and whiz. Nothing else. The Good: The bread was good. Soft, chewy but now over chewy. Like all Philly Cheesesteaks, I believe you should let the meat, cheese and toppings sit for a bit to let the bread absorb the amalgamation of flavors. Is this a preference, yes it is. I would say the ensemble was very bread forward if you will The Ok: Now on to the meat. Their meat is not the same meat you get in Philly. It felt a bit processed. There also could have been more of it. Especially during times of COVID when these businesses are running low on customers, give em something to come back for. With that being said, it needed to be balanced with the bread. The Needs Improvement: The Whiz and Onions came across as too overpowering for my taste. Instead of the savoriness it was actually a bit sweet which I did not enjoy. I may need to go easy on the Whiz because i felt as though it was lathered on too heavy. It completely took away from the other components. The Excellent: The people there. They were fast, kind and had my Philly ready pretty fast (that may have hurt them in the end). All in all, this place is a chain. You get the generic Philly Cheesesteak. I will return and make some personal changes. read more

The Irvine location has the worst customer service! I will never go back there, no matter how good their sandwiches are. Not worth it. They got my sandwich wrong and then the manager argued with me on the phone telling me that he didn't get it wrong when I was staring at it the whole cool time. I never heard I'm sorry once.
