Visited this restaurant on a Sunday at 4pm. We had reservationa but arrived a little early and were seated immediately. The restaurant is clean, well-lit, and plays music at a very tolerable level. Our waiter, Felipe (sp?) was excellent and had some good food recommendations. For dinner we had: -Chicken lettuce wraps - Tasty and I'd order them again. -Kung Pao Chicken - the sauce was good but I did NOT like the texture of the chicken (it's difficult to explain but it was too chewy and, some bites, were fatty). Would not order again. -Spicy Pepper Mignon - Loved this! Beautiful! Pricey. The food was just ok to me. I did enjoy the cauliflower and the shrimp dumplings. That was about it. The service was slow and they were confused with the order of spring rolls we ordered as an appetizer. It took forever to come out and when it arrived it was ice cold. The waiter was excellent and removed it from the bill. He also added on the baked Alaska for dessert for us as a kind gesture for the screwup which was amazing. Annnnd sent us home with a fresh order of spring rollls. Great customer service. The chicken fried rice tasted like freezer burn. Didn't like it at all. The sweet and sour chicken was delicious. Tried out the unlimited brunch for a birthday celebration. The mimosas were a lot of fun and the food presentation was good. The service was excellent and we all really enjoyed our server. He was professional, engaging and knowledgeable. We all had a good time and did not feel rushed. Surprisingly, the food was about the quality of local takeout... with a very high price point. I would give the food one star (quality/value), the experience three stars and the service five stars. There really aren't any good vegan options - so just drink the mimosas- lol! A friend suggested Philippe for an impromptu girls dinner. I usually expect Chinese food to be really salty but this food was not. We ordered the Broccoli and Prawns, the Chilean Sea Bass and the Filet Mignon and Green Beans. I don't eat beef so I only had the Sea bass and Broccoli & Prawns (along with steamed rice); both were tasty and flavorful, and I would order them again although I wish there was a larger portion of the sea bass. Went for their new brunch service which is $75 for unlimited mimosas and appetizers along with an entree and dessert! The food came out really good and good portions. Daniel was our main server and he did a great job of handling the madness of the kitchen, with putting in our orders how we asked for and checking in with the kitchen. The kitchen on the other hand either had our order come out too slow, we got 2 of what we order, it didn't come out at all, or we got an item that wasn't even on the brunch menu . There were inconsistencies with our mimosas as I had some with pulp and my friend didn't. Also the music did not fit the vibe I was expecting but it fine I suppose I wouldn't mind trying it out again, but maybe later once they figure out the kitchen and service. All DC'ers know that if a restaurant is granted real estate space on the wharf, it's highly regarded. My boyfriends family and I were excited to try Philippe Chow for dinner, namely the Peking duck. Overall, all the food we got was pretty tasty, and no issues on that. Where the dinner fell flat was 1) the price for the quality of the dishes and 2) the service. The service was quite disappointing. Our server seemed very out of it, had us waiting for long periods at a time before he came back to our table with any updates or to check up on us. Our table was seated in the back of section, so maybe that's why, but it was difficult getting his attention. When we did speak to him he was not very polite to us, and mumbled as well. The strange attitude of the service definitely impacted our night. (Meanwhile, he was being super buddy-buddy to the table next to us, so I'm not sure what happened there) Here's what we ordered: Duck and cilantro dumplings - 5/5 probably my favorite of the night. The filling portion was generously packed. Sea bass - 4/5 portions were minimal, but it was very tasty. We all preferred the black bean sauce to the ginger-garlic sauce (they do 50/50). With this dish, between the 4 of us, each of us only got 2 pieces of fish, one of each flavor. So it was yum but it was not much food, and it is priced at nearly $50, so you can decide depending on your appetite if it's worth it... Salt and pepper eggplant - 3/5 pretty tasty. It is very dry, so we dipped the eggplant in the remaining sauce of the other dishes. Nine seasons prawns - 3.5/5 - This was also a tasty dish. It is a sweet and sour sauce that reminded me of takeout Chinese rather than an elevated Chinese restaurant. Also the red color of the sauce seemed artificial to me, which was slightly offputting. Vegetable Fried Rice - 4/5 This was really good! But it comes as such a small portion in this little bowl... We were excited to get the peking duck. Interestingly, they carve the duck with the meat and fat in one piece. (A different restaurant we frequent, which I won't mention the name, carve the fat off, and you are served the crispy skin pieces and the juicy meat pieces.) We were not the biggest fans of the way Philippe Chow carves the duck here, because 1) the skin was not that crispy 2) the fat included with the meat pieces, which is more our personal preference. It's also a HEFTY fee to order the Peking duck. I personally recommend if you want to eat their duck, order the "Crispy Duck" (perhaps it'd be crispier than if one ordered the Peking duck). And they give you few pancakes, so we had to ask for a second order of them. The service was so slow that by the time they came with the pancakes, we were basically done with the meal. Another thing to note with the Peking Duck, it says "For 2/3". Which seems crazy to me. The Peking Duck they serve, out of any of the other dishes we ordered, was perfectly fine to serve four people, if not more. If 2/3 people are recommended to share the Peking Duck, that must be one of the only dishes they're ordering... I wasn't a huge fan of the steep prices for small portions, because we all know that there are plenty of Chinese restaurants that serve generous portions with transparent pricing. I do understand Philippe Chow is elevated dining, and probably has a pricey rent, but moving forward, I'll go to Northern Virginia for my Chinese food. read more

Came here for dinner with one of my best friends and I LOVED IT. Located in The Wharf area, this restaurant exudes class and elegance. It's elevated Chinese cuisine, and the portions are VERY generous. Service was great, checked in enough to tend to our needs without hovering (I always appreciate that). I got the chicken wonton soup, beef fried rice and the cracked pepper lobster. All were very delicious but I did have a hard time eating the lobster because it came with the shell (maybe I should've asked for something to crack the shell with - lesson learned lols). I ended up having to use my hands, so all is well. All in all great experience, would definitely return! read more

Went to visit this fine Asian cuisine the other day and it was really really good. The server was OK. We had to switch tables twice due to the outdoor seating cushion being wet outside there's flame of fire, a.k.a. fire pit. heater warmers are attached to the table, which kept us warm I started off with shrimp spring rolls which were amazing with a dipping sauce and then I had fried rice, white rice, crispy beef & sweet and spicy chicken that was amazing. *Restaurant Week Review* Visited last night with two friends for Winter Restaurant Week, which started this past Monday and at most places, will end this coming Sunday. Luckily, Philippe will be extending theirs until 1/28, so definitely book a reservation ASAP. For point of reference to the location, they're across from the Pendry and not too far from Hell's Kitchen. There's several parking garages, including one right next to the restaurant. Ride share area right out front. I ubered here! On a Wednesday night, it was packed. I thought maybe the frigid cold would deter folks from coming out. It did not!! I was greeted right away at the door. Everyone was very hospitable and welcoming. I checked in and let them know I was waiting for two others. I sat at the bar. Ponce provided great service. I got the watermelon margarita. It was good, but at $24, kinda pricey! We got seated in the main dining area. The space is cozy but gave upscale vibes. Modern, sleek decor. Perfect for a romantic night out. The pre-fixe menu includes three courses - $55. Definitely worth it! I got the vegetable lomein (tasty and filling), filet mignon (comes well done - just how it's prepared) with green beans, a side of vegetable fried rice (there's the option for broccoli) and red velvet cake. Everything was good, and the food is somewhat shareable. One of my friends got the branzino (was small so won't say that was shareable). Our server, Sharice (not sure the spelling) was nice but being that it was so packed, she was busy and perhaps overwhelmed. I was pleased with my experience and would recommend this place. I was pleasantly surprised to see Philippe Chow was one of the featured restaurants during the Metro Washington Restaurant Week! I have been meaning to visit since they opened roughly a year ago... So, this gave me the perfect excuse to visit. For starters - the atmosphere with the restaurant definitely is nothing short of opulent. Every space from the standard seating to the bar seating is gorgeous. I went on the last day of resturant week, and many of my first choice options from the Prix Fixe menu were sold out. For my three courses I had: * Shrimp Satay * Filet Mignon and green beans * served with vegetable fried rice * Chocolate Layer Cake Overall each of the courses were okay/good. I was not expecting the Shrimp Satay's "chef's special peanut sauce" to be so sweet. I generally prefer my savoury options to remain savoury... The Filet Mignon was high quality beef, and the green beans were crunchy which I enjoyed. The chocolate layer cake was forgettable. I was really really disappointed by the cocktails that I ordered. I generally don't return drinks - I usually bare with them, but the Split King took a tart cocktail to the HIGHEST level It was so salty and bitter. The mixologist kindly made another one that was supposedly "more sweet", but it was still not to my liking. Considering I usually drink gin and soda water with lots of lime - I never knew a drink could exist that was too tart for my liking . I found that we had to keep reminding our server for things that we had requested. Not exactly what I would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Maybe this was an off day, maybe it wasn't. I live in The Wharf and we had been meaning to try Philipe Chow for some time. Of course, we were put off by the high prices for simple-sounding things we all know and love, like Crispy Beef. It seemed like there was a high chance of being disappointed with such a high price point. Well let me tell you, everything we had was absolutely delicious. The Crispy Beef, the Pineapple Fried Rice with pork, the Nine Seasons Spicy Prawns, the green beans and the lychee martini. Everything was crave-worthy! One of the best crispy beefs I've ever had. Very high-quality and the fried rice was delicious, those are two must-orders in my opinion. On top of that the service was wonderful. So friendly, fast and generous. This is a great choice for a special occasion (or really any occasion if you're cool with the price.) It's a beautiful restaurant with a pretty view of the yachts. Exceptional experience! It was our first time at this restaurant. Our server was Andre and he was very helpful. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and walked us through everything with a perfect level of detail. We ordered the kung pao chicken, spicy prawns, and crispy duck. All were great choices. The spicy prawns were probably the favorite of everyone at about a 9.5 out of 10. For a full 10, there was not really any level of "hot" to the spice, so took that down a half point. Taste was on point though, similar to a sweet and sour. The kung pao was also very good, and a bit more savory and darker sauce than the prawns. The crispy duck was wonderful for the overall experience of building the meal was fun. The pancakes were really thin tortilla-type wraps, and the fixings were similar to a fajita experience. Throughout the meal, Andre and the team were super attentive and cleared plates immediately as soon as they were empty. Overall it was one of our favorite experiences in a while. We will definitely be back, and plan to have a bunch of their appetizers that sounded yummy! read more

I can get the same tasting chinese food for way less. Drinks are quite good. I don't like they keep the same name and change the way drinks are made. split king now has sh**ty crushed ice instead of big ice. Service is not good. They just sold water bottle even though we didn't ask for special water. Tap water was fine. All she asked was sparkling or still and they brought bottled water. I hate this kind of thing. I had an amazing dinner at Philippe Chow on Tuesday night! The great service and ambiance were the highlight of the night. I've been taking advantage of restaurant week and decided to see what their menu had to offer. For the first entree we got the shrimp and chicken satay. Both were sub par. The chicken tasted like it was coated in hot Cheetos dust down to it being red and the shrimp was a bit too salty. For our entrees we decided on the sweet and sour chicken and the filet mignon. Both were really good! The filet mignon was super tender. The sangria that we both ordered also went with our food and had a very light and sweet flavor! This review is for summer restaurant week only, and does not represent the regular service/menu. Per the management's confession, everything broke down on the last day of restaurant week, aka Friday. We were seated timely with a reservation. Got our water, and then silence. While we got the enjoy the swanky decor and ambiance, our server was nowhere to be seen. We were surrounded by tables receiving preferential treatment, with the executive chef entertaining his friends, and a manager giving all sorts of comps to complaining guests. After what seemed to be eternity, listening to our growling came another manager. He was the only positive of the night, but still could not save the day. The overall dinner experience was close to 2.5 hours. I couldn't tell if we were given different portions due to restaurant week. But we tried the famous chicken satay (tasty, but not traditional, it has a very creamy sauce), the special prawns (very spicy), filet mignon with green beans (beans were tastier than the filet, the filet are tiny strips, but could be any cut with that msg taste), and vegetable fried rice (vegan, no eggs, the only thing that got me semi-full.) After another 40 min break came the half desserts. The tastiest thing I had all night was the coconuty, creamy lychee martini. Restaurant week is to try new places, and it is not an excuse to hide behind. The management took responsibility, and comp'ed the entire meal, so we ended up just tipping. You gotta check out Philippe Chow at the Wharf!!!! Earlier this week. We did date night. I made my reservation on OpenTable. As soon as we walked in , we were seated. Our server was very sweet. The drink menu is extensive. I asked for a strong but fruity drink and the Split King was recommended! It was so delicious that I had two! For our appetizers, we had the calamari , the ribs, the noodle, and shrimp fried rice. The ribs and the noodle were my favorite. The sauce they serve with the noodle with is AMAZINg! I think I put that on everything. For entrees we had the crispy beef and the sweet and sour chicken. The manager was walking through the restaurant and checking in with diners. Which was a great touch. This place is perfect to be seen, celebrate a birthday, date night, anniversary and everything in between. I can't wait to go back! I loved everything about my experience at Philippe Chow! Upon arrival, they were running a few mins behind on reservations, so we sat at the bar for about 10 mins and ordered drinks. I ordered a French martini, which was nicely made. Once seated, we ordered a few things: - crispy seaweed: I loooooved this! I've only ever seen this dish on menus at Chinese restaurants in London (slight flex, lol), so I immediately ordered it here. It was perfect, such a nice a balance of umami and sweet, and the candied walnuts were a nice touch. Order this! - crispy duck: delicious. Perfectly crispy and served with thin pancakes, green onion, and hoisin. - nine seasons prawns: THE SAUCE IS TO DIE FOR! My favorite dish by bar. Perfect balance of sweet and spicy. For someone who's been visiting both locations in NY since 2012 (check my reviews) I can give an honest review of how the establishment should be executed and run. I think there should be a lot of improvements with the staff preparing the food. Maybe have one of the staff members from the NY location to overshadow them for a month. I can attest the locations in NY same food items are delicious. The Fried rice prepared in DC is always dry with a burnt after taste. Secondly, the service at the bar is extremely poor. I visited this location 3x's before writing this review and everytime it's the same experience. Not offered water and have to wait 10+ before you are greeted. One bartender constantly leaving the bar to talk to his friends and is on his phone (see picture). While customers are sitting on the bar waiting to order an item. Feels like you are bothering them. I suggest sitting at a table for better service. The servers have been great. Pros, + Servers (get a table) avoid the bar + ambiance is there especially on a Friday and Saturday. Came here a week ago for my anniversary and saw the Moët special online (which I wish they'd keep!). I didn't realize it had expired, but the manager answered the phone and still honored it -- amazing start to the night. Service was outstanding. Mya was warm, professional, and completely on top of everything -- my glass never went empty, our table stayed spotless, and she recommended great dishes while still giving us space to enjoy our evening. Some friends and I ventured out to this restaurant in the Wharf for a birthday celebration. It is on the end of the wharf where it's much quieter. It's a modern Chinese restaurant. It is known for family style servings. The classic dishes you love are served as appetizers and can fill up. I ordered the Creamsicle with a shot of tequila since it is a zero proof drink. For food, I ordered the wonton soup, chicken fried rice, and salt/pepper calamari. The wonton soup was flavorful, and it was filled with chicken wontons. They were soft and seasoned. The broth rounded out the flavor. The chicken fried rice was good. It comes in a small pot that can be shared, but I ate it as my main course. Now on to the calamari. This fell flat to me. It was very chewy, and in my opinion, the sauce served with it is so spicy that it's a mismatch with the calamari. The sauce is really thick, and the calamari was thickly cut, coated, and fried. I don't think I would order that again. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The service was good overall. We had a large party and he pivoted nicely with the add on with guests. They are new! Opened in June, barely 2 months into business and very nice decor place. We didn't need any reservation, you can get full service at the bar, which is awesome. I always get consistently the same item in every restaurant, so it is easy to compare. The drinks are EXCELLENT! Old fashioned was one of the best tasting ones I have ever had. I wish they had cherry. Also, the ice is huge, so the actual amount of drink you get it smaller yet it is more expensive than every other place at its $20-22 range. Service was weird. She had such a looking-down on you attitude, not in a fun or playful way and dismissive. We were in a great mood so we were super nice to her and the attitude back was uncalled for. Decided to select from my ever increasing list of bookmarks when my friend was ready to honor our annual birthday tradition. We arrived a bit early on a Wednesday evening for our rezzie which gave me time to sit at the bar & check the vibe. The restaurant was bustling and moderately crowded. They have the aesthetics covered. It's a lovely restaurant & I was all smiles as we patiently waited. About 15 min later we were seated by the window and quickly ordered the grand walnut prawn app. Lawd it was delicious! I could've had that & a glass of wine and been just fine. For entreés, we ordered the Chilean sea bass, crispy duck, shrimp fried rice (no crab rice offered), & green beans. My friend's duck was delivered at least 20 min before my sea bass. The duck was under-seasoned & overcooked. I was hungry so I ate some with the brown sauce then felt bad about eating his food... the remaining food was delivered item by item. It was fresh & flavorful but we couldn't escape how disjointed the service was. Extremely disappointing & our server was not around to help! Two separate men tried to drop off fried rice & other items were missed. They also missed the fact that I was celebrating my birthday. We had to ask a couple servers for dessert offerings. All of this blew the mood. The GM stopped by and left his card but offered no real time assistance. The presentation of the baked Alaska was impressive but it was just late. We had reservations for dinner to try restaurant week menu. No issues with getting our table, and we were a little early. The interior is very pretty, we liked the little panda chopstick rests, but it was VERY loud. It was very difficult to hold a conversation comfortably, the acoustics were bad. We were able to try various items because of the restaurant week menu. For apps, we the chicken lettuce wraps and shrimp satay. The lettuce wraps were pretty good. The filling was tasty and the lettuce gave it a fresh take. The shrimp satay was good too. It had a sweet type of sauce on it and there were 4 jumbo shrimp. We got the fish and filet mignon with a side of vegetable fried rice and the green beans with black bean sauce. Filet was tender and served with some green beans. The fish was a pretty good portion. The eggplant was a little disappointing. The fried rice was a lackluster but the green beans were tasty. Desserts were what we expected of a chocolate cake and a red velvet cake. While the food was ok, the prices are a little steep. You're definitely paying for the experience. read more

Service and food was bad except for the Peeking duck, our lackluster service and included gratuity made for a very forgettable experience.

We had absolutely no wait for our table. As for the service...the hostess who answered the phone and the person who greeted me/answered my questions at the front was not the kindest. At the table, I would say they could do a better job picking up plates that are empty on the table, but overall the service still deserves 5 stars. The ambiance and vice was elegant and everything I wanted for that evening. The food...I liked the calamari the most. I was a bit disappointed the waitress didn't ask me how I wanted my steak and simply chose to bring it out medium rare. I've never eaten medium rare before. That is one reason I'm giving less than 5 stars. The gentleman who was hosting us is a regular, but the 3 of us have never been to the restaurant before. Our experience wasn't 5 stars, but I know the gentleman who we were with highly recommends this restaurant and overall the experience was decent. We ordered: 1. the pepper lobster 2. the surf and turf 3. pepper calamari 4. An Asian Chicken dish 5. Pepper sea bass 6. A number of drinks Oh I forgot to add...they do not have valet. That actually takes away another star. Even if the restaurant could make a deal with the hotel's valet, that would be great, but that was a huge inconvenience. read more
