So overpriced for what it is, but still a great experience. The service can be slow at times, but the servers are experienced and attentive. When my party spilled sauce on the tablecloth, they immediately placed a napkin on top to cover the stain--very thoughtful. The food is all great; I love the veggie lettuce cups, shrimp skewers, veggie dumplings, and spring rolls, though everything is good. Be sure to check out the happy hour! read more

We had an absolutely brilliant experience with Mena! My wife and I have been here once before and we love this place. Mena made it even more enjoyable than the past times we've been. The flavors are outstanding. The ambiance is chill and cozy. This is a perfect spot for a date! Try the Bok choy! read more

I really don't like submitting a bad review, but I am hoping that this can serve as a wake-up call to the restaurant, and a warning to others until you start to see more regular positive reviews. From the start, this restaurant week excursion to the beautiful location on DC's Wharf, was destined for disaster. Horrible, and I mean horrible service (it was nearly 20 minutes after being seated before any showed up with water or menus and another 15 for a drink order...and it got worse from there). You would think though that the food would have eased the pain of the slow service. Sadly, no. I would say if you want this level of Chinese inspired food, go to P.F. Changs and have a feast. I would also say that what we were served could probably also be found at Panda Express on a good day. The only good food that was served were the desserts, which I have to presume, were produced elsewhere and brought in. I'm not going to do a blow - by - blow (item by item) review because I don't want to pile on this already negative assessment. But please, please restaurant management either fix these problems or consider another line of work. One final note, don't let my photos of the food fool you, it might look appetizing (not really) but the taste will definitely leave you disappointed. read more

Absolutely loved my experience at Philippe Chow DC! Thanks to server, Anthony..... The food was flavorful, the atmosphere was upscale and vibrant, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. Visited this restaurant on a Sunday at 4pm. We had reservationa but arrived a little early and were seated immediately. The restaurant is clean, well-lit, and plays music at a very tolerable level. Our waiter, Felipe (sp?) was excellent and had some good food recommendations. For dinner we had: -Chicken lettuce wraps - Tasty and I'd order them again. -Kung Pao Chicken - the sauce was good but I did NOT like the texture of the chicken (it's difficult to explain but it was too chewy and, some bites, were fatty). Would not order again. -Spicy Pepper Mignon - Loved this! It had a nice, spicy kick and was served with green beans. -Broccoli - tasted great and cooked perfectly -White rice Overall, we had a great experience and would come here again. read more

The Wharf location is a real plus--lovely waterfront views and a lively vibe make it an appealing spot for dinner. Service was very good: the staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient. Parking is in The Wharf's underground garage, though getting there by car during rush hour can be tricky due to traffic. The restaurant was quite empty during our visit, and the food, while pricey, didn't quite match the cost. The dishes we tried--Crispy Cauliflower ($18) and Salt and Pepper Eggplant ($17), both fried vegetable options with similar seasonings; Pineapple Fried Rice ($20); Dumpling Sampler ($26); Nine Seasons Spicy Prawns ($44); and Chilean Sea Bass ($42)--were on the greasy and heavy side, reminiscent of older American-style Chinese food from places like New Orleans decades ago. It's not particularly authentic or light/health-focused, and quite different from the more refined Beijing-style dishes we enjoy at Mr. Chow in central Manhattan. On the drinks side, the beer selection was so-so, but the lychee martini was quite good, though a bit too sweet. Overall, 2 out of 5 stars. The setting and service are strong, but the food feels overpriced for what it is. Worth considering if you prioritize the views, but there are likely better options nearby for the cuisine. read more

The location of this restaurant is great since it's close to the parking garage as well as the street in case you're catching an uber. The food is decent, but not many options available on the menu. I've visited this location a few times before leaving a review and it's been pretty consistent. The service is not great. There's music playing in the background and there's security present depending on the time of day. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very clean, however, for the price of the food and the mandatory 20% gratuity, I would expect the service to be much better. read more

Another spectacular evening curated by Abbi and his team. I REALLY enjoy Rowa as our server. She was warm and kind and attentive plus takes some AMAZING pics lol. She noticed when I ran out of chili sauce, she noticed when I ran out of lettuce wraps, just on it! Even the staff who help manage the tables are fantastic. I asked one lady if she wouldn't mind helping clean off the table before desert and she was so obliging! It's really all they do. Check your coats. Give you bag hangers so your bags don't sit on the floor. Open the leafs on their table so you have more space. I had called ahead to have a bottle of bubbly waiting on the table for my boyfriends birthday and they even had a hand written card! We did the chicken lettuce wraps, the salt and pepper shrimp, the shrimp fried rice, and the whole duck. The duck is TRULY the star ! (But those shrimp are also addictive!!) OH AND when I ordered the broccoli she made sure to put the sauce on the side which was SO thoughtful! Quite frankly anyone that can make a plain steamed broccoli taste that good also get an A + in my books! They brought him a beautiful desert at the end and it was just a very classy civilized way to spend 3 hours for a leisurely dinner. HEADS UP THE WHOLE DUCK TAKES 1 HOUR TO PREPARE AS IT IS DONE FROM SCRATCH SO ORDER AS SOON AS YOU SIT! My mother has lived in 20 different countries around the world (ie she's been exposed to AOT!) and is very particular and discerning with her taste ... this was her second time there and she's said it's now one of her favorite places in dc to dine due to the level of service but also the class. She bemoans the lack of table clothes and ambiance and again the old world elegance- so she said she finally feels it here ! My boyfriend said it was one of his best birthdays and that we will absolutely be going back (something he rarely says!). Just magic ! read more

Beautiful! Pricey. The food was just ok to me. I did enjoy the cauliflower and the shrimp dumplings. That was about it. The service was slow and they were confused with the order of spring rolls we ordered as an appetizer. It took forever to come out and when it arrived it was ice cold. The waiter was excellent and removed it from the bill. He also added on the baked Alaska for dessert for us as a kind gesture for the screwup which was amazing. Annnnd sent us home with a fresh order of spring rollls. Great customer service. The chicken fried rice tasted like freezer burn. Didn't like it at all. The sweet and sour chicken was delicious. The drinks were good. Might return to give it another try. But meh is my vote this go round... read more

I truly enjoyed Philippe Chow and will be back. I've been wanting to try this restaurant since it arrived and I wasn't disappointed at all. I went because it was restaurant week but then didn't even order off of the restaurant week menu. The service was amazing. The chef even came out and chatted with us. The ambiance was great and I love that they have outdoor seating, although we didn't sit outside. It was quiet and our waitress was amazing. Definitely check this place out if you get a chance. read more

Tried out the unlimited brunch for a birthday celebration. The mimosas were a lot of fun and the food presentation was good. The service was excellent and we all really enjoyed our server. He was professional, engaging and knowledgeable. We all had a good time and did not feel rushed. Surprisingly, the food was about the quality of local takeout... with a very high price point. I would give the food one star (quality/value), the experience three stars and the service five stars. There really aren't any good vegan options - so just drink the mimosas- lol! Recommendation for the meat eaters- the dumplings (pork soup was the fave). The non-vegans liked the desserts - especially the peanut butter one. read more

Went for their new brunch service which is $75 for unlimited mimosas and appetizers along with an entree and dessert! The food came out really good and good portions. Daniel was our main server and he did a great job of handling the madness of the kitchen, with putting in our orders how we asked for and checking in with the kitchen. The kitchen on the other hand either had our order come out too slow, we got 2 of what we order, it didn't come out at all, or we got an item that wasn't even on the brunch menu . There were inconsistencies with our mimosas as I had some with pulp and my friend didn't. Also the music did not fit the vibe I was expecting but it fine I suppose I wouldn't mind trying it out again, but maybe later once they figure out the kitchen and service. I am excited to try their happy hour that just started! read more

Philippe Chow - Chicken and Shrimp Fried Rice, Spicy Lobster Noodles, Crispy Duck, and Bok Choy! - Chinese Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

All DC'ers know that if a restaurant is granted real estate space on the wharf, it's highly regarded. My boyfriends family and I were excited to try Philippe Chow for dinner, namely the Peking duck. Overall, all the food we got was pretty tasty, and no issues on that. Where the dinner fell flat was 1) the price for the quality of the dishes and 2) the service. The service was quite disappointing. Our server seemed very out of it, had us waiting for long periods at a time before he came back to our table with any updates or to check up on us. Our table was seated in the back of section, so maybe that's why, but it was difficult getting his attention. When we did speak to him he was not very polite to us, and mumbled as well. The strange attitude of the service definitely impacted our night. (Meanwhile, he was being super buddy-buddy to the table next to us, so I'm not sure what happened there) Here's what we ordered: Duck and cilantro dumplings - 5/5 probably my favorite of the night. The filling portion was generously packed. Sea bass - 4/5 portions were minimal, but it was very tasty. We all preferred the black bean sauce to the ginger-garlic sauce (they do 50/50). With this dish, between the 4 of us, each of us only got 2 pieces of fish, one of each flavor. So it was yum but it was not much food, and it is priced at nearly $50, so you can decide depending on your appetite if it's worth it... Salt and pepper eggplant - 3/5 pretty tasty. It is very dry, so we dipped the eggplant in the remaining sauce of the other dishes. Nine seasons prawns - 3.5/5 - This was also a tasty dish. It is a sweet and sour sauce that reminded me of takeout Chinese rather than an elevated Chinese restaurant. Also the red color of the sauce seemed artificial to me, which was slightly offputting. Vegetable Fried Rice - 4/5 This was really good! But it comes as such a small portion in this little bowl... We were excited to get the peking duck. Interestingly, they carve the duck with the meat and fat in one piece. (A different restaurant we frequent, which I won't mention the name, carve the fat off, and you are served the crispy skin pieces and the juicy meat pieces.) We were not the biggest fans of the way Philippe Chow carves the duck here, because 1) the skin was not that crispy 2) the fat included with the meat pieces, which is more our personal preference. It's also a HEFTY fee to order the Peking duck. I personally recommend if you want to eat their duck, order the "Crispy Duck" (perhaps it'd be crispier than if one ordered the Peking duck). And they give you few pancakes, so we had to ask for a second order of them. The service was so slow that by the time they came with the pancakes, we were basically done with the meal. Another thing to note with the Peking Duck, it says "For 2/3". Which seems crazy to me. The Peking Duck they serve, out of any of the other dishes we ordered, was perfectly fine to serve four people, if not more. If 2/3 people are recommended to share the Peking Duck, that must be one of the only dishes they're ordering... I wasn't a huge fan of the steep prices for small portions, because we all know that there are plenty of Chinese restaurants that serve generous portions with transparent pricing. I do understand Philippe Chow is elevated dining, and probably has a pricey rent, but moving forward, I'll go to Northern Virginia for my Chinese food. read more

Came here for dinner with one of my best friends and I LOVED IT. Located in The Wharf area, this restaurant exudes class and elegance. It's elevated Chinese cuisine, and the portions are VERY generous. Service was great, checked in enough to tend to our needs without hovering (I always appreciate that). I got the chicken wonton soup, beef fried rice and the cracked pepper lobster. All were very delicious but I did have a hard time eating the lobster because it came with the shell (maybe I should've asked for something to crack the shell with - lesson learned lols). I ended up having to use my hands, so all is well. All in all great experience, would definitely return! read more

Not the best Chinese food that I've ever had but I'm sure it's great for DC standards. Service is good and the restaurant has a modern vibe. We came on a Saturday night so it was busy and food was a little slow to come out. We ordered the walnut shrimp, the shanghai noodles, salt & pepper squid, and the Maine lobster. None of the dishes were memorable. I've had better Chinese food at a lesser price point. It gets busy around the Wharf and rideshare isn't allowed to pick you up in front of the restaurant. read more

This is the second time I dined at this location and it was absolutely amazing! Ask for Valentina!! The best service

Had a great experience at Philippe Chow at The Wharf this past Friday. We did the Moët & Satay experience and everything was well done, but the service really stood out. Victor and Anderson were amazing...super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick to fix a dish that needed to be sent back (it came out much better the second time). The standout moment for me: I mentioned to Victor, at the start that they have one of my favorite desserts from a previous visit, and when it was time for dessert, it came out without me even asking. That level of attention to detail was impressive. Shoutout to Anderson as well--definitely deserving of recognition. I'll be back! read more

*Restaurant Week Review* Visited last night with two friends for Winter Restaurant Week, which started this past Monday and at most places, will end this coming Sunday. Luckily, Philippe will be extending theirs until 1/28, so definitely book a reservation ASAP. For point of reference to the location, they're across from the Pendry and not too far from Hell's Kitchen. There's several parking garages, including one right next to the restaurant. Ride share area right out front. I ubered here! On a Wednesday night, it was packed. I thought maybe the frigid cold would deter folks from coming out. It did not!! I was greeted right away at the door. Everyone was very hospitable and welcoming. I checked in and let them know I was waiting for two others. I sat at the bar. Ponce provided great service. I got the watermelon margarita. It was good, but at $24, kinda pricey! We got seated in the main dining area. The space is cozy but gave upscale vibes. Modern, sleek decor. Perfect for a romantic night out. The pre-fixe menu includes three courses - $55. Definitely worth it! I got the vegetable lomein (tasty and filling), filet mignon (comes well done - just how it's prepared) with green beans, a side of vegetable fried rice (there's the option for broccoli) and red velvet cake. Everything was good, and the food is somewhat shareable. One of my friends got the branzino (was small so won't say that was shareable). Our server, Sharice (not sure the spelling) was nice but being that it was so packed, she was busy and perhaps overwhelmed. I was pleased with my experience and would recommend this place. I'd visit again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to see Philippe Chow was one of the featured restaurants during the Metro Washington Restaurant Week! I have been meaning to visit since they opened roughly a year ago... So, this gave me the perfect excuse to visit. For starters - the atmosphere with the restaurant definitely is nothing short of opulent. Every space from the standard seating to the bar seating is gorgeous. I went on the last day of resturant week, and many of my first choice options from the Prix Fixe menu were sold out. For my three courses I had: * Shrimp Satay * Filet Mignon and green beans * served with vegetable fried rice * Chocolate Layer Cake Overall each of the courses were okay/good. I was not expecting the Shrimp Satay's "chef's special peanut sauce" to be so sweet. I generally prefer my savoury options to remain savoury... The Filet Mignon was high quality beef, and the green beans were crunchy which I enjoyed. The chocolate layer cake was forgettable. I was really really disappointed by the cocktails that I ordered. I generally don't return drinks - I usually bare with them, but the Split King took a tart cocktail to the HIGHEST level It was so salty and bitter. The mixologist kindly made another one that was supposedly "more sweet", but it was still not to my liking. Considering I usually drink gin and soda water with lots of lime - I never knew a drink could exist that was too tart for my liking . I found that we had to keep reminding our server for things that we had requested. Not exactly what I would expect from a fine dining restaurant. Maybe this was an off day, maybe it wasn't. Either way... I think that the ambiance is what brings most people to the restaurant- because for me, it certainly wasn't the food, service or the cocktails. read more

Food was so underwhelming. The menu was extremely limited . Menu is 2 pages long. Asked for the house mignon medium well and it came out VERYYY rare. Gave up on the food ordered a drink. The drinks were nasty , I got the passion fruit martini & it was just way too tart . half way thru my visit the music went from jazz to rap music which thru me off tho I love rap I wasn't there for that type of vibe . the server was nice but was busy so she never got me a refill on ANY drinks. I was 1 and done with drinks so I was thirsty the whole time . I just needed water ! The table next to us was drunk and super loud. As were other tables ! I'm glad at least someone had a good time. A friend suggested Philippe for an impromptu girls dinner. I usually expect Chinese food to be really salty but this food was not. We ordered the Broccoli and Prawns, the Chilean Sea Bass and the Filet Mignon and Green Beans. I don't eat beef so I only had the Sea bass and Broccoli & Prawns (along with steamed rice); both were tasty and flavorful, and I would order them again although I wish there was a larger portion of the sea bass. The Split King cocktail was essentially a Mai Tai - it was tasty but I'd order something that isn't as sweet next time. read more

It's Ok. Food isn't bad at all and we would go back. Reasonable price. Staff were professional, great service! Beijing Duck was a bit disappointing, below par, nothing special about it. Dumpling was food though. And you can't go wrong with kung pao. Shrimp was also disappointing, the batter were not crispy, but shrimp were fresh. But it's nowhere near fine-dinning like it's advertised. Disposable chopsticks is NO fine-dinning by any means. Dress code?? It's more like casual dinning. Or maybe we read it wrongly read more

I only gave them one star because I had to. I've been to a few restaurants at the Wharf and had average meals. HOWEVER, this is by far the WORST!! Members of my family and friends were in town for a conference. On the last day of the conference, we went to Philippe Chow at the Wharf. The food was AWFUL! They must have seen us coming. First the food was served cold and some was TOOOOO SALTY. I ordered Shrimp with peanut sauce...I got cold shrimp with melted PEANUT BUTTER! Next was Fried Rice with Lobster. Then came cold rice that was boiled not fried. Everything went downhill from there. I have had MUCH better Chinese food from my local carry out. NEVER EVER WILL I REVISIT NOR RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE. Order takeout from your neighborhood carry out. It will be cheaper AND taste MUCH BETTER! I had an amazing dinner at Philippe Chow on Tuesday night! The great service and ambiance were the highlight of the night. I've been taking advantage of restaurant week and decided to see what their menu had to offer. For the first entree we got the shrimp and chicken satay. Both were sub par. The chicken tasted like it was coated in hot Cheetos dust down to it being red and the shrimp was a bit too salty. For our entrees we decided on the sweet and sour chicken and the filet mignon. Both were really good! The filet mignon was super tender. The sangria that we both ordered also went with our food and had a very light and sweet flavor! I would come back for what I know would guaranteed good experience. For dessert we had the red velvet and chocolate dessert and both were delicious! read more

Philippe Chow is a great addition to DC. I am not sure I would travel back specifically to frequent this location. Although really good food, the music was very loud and club like. I've been to Philippe Chow before and had good experiences, which is exactly why we chose it for a birthday dinner for a party of 9. Unfortunately, this visit at the DC Waterfront location was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We were initially told the wait would be 15 minutes, then suddenly it became 30 minutes, all while we watched other parties get seated ahead of us. It already set the tone for what turned into a frustrating night. Our server, Meenaskshi, was very inattentive. She was barely available, rarely checked on us, and at times wouldn't even look our way when we were clearly trying to get her attention from just a few feet away. What made it worse was watching her be very attentive to the table directly across from us while we were consistently ignored. Several of our glasses arrived with black debris inside them. When we asked for replacements, her attitude was nasty and dismissive instead of apologetic, which is unacceptable in a restaurant at this price point. The food quality was also a huge letdown compared to past visits. Portions were smaller, flavors were off, and nothing felt worth the cost. The chicken satay had no real flavor at all -- it tasted like old fried oil with a heavy, semi-sweet oily sauce dumped on top. Overall, the food lacked freshness and seasoning. The most disappointing part was the birthday experience. The guest of honor received a dessert with a dry, awkward "happy birthday," while the table across from us had multiple staff come out and sing for their celebration. It made the difference in service impossible not to notice and left a bad impression on our entire group. For a restaurant with Philippe Chow's reputation, this experience was unacceptable. Between misleading wait times, poor service, dirty glassware, bland overpriced food, and inconsistent treatment, we truly wish we had chosen somewhere else. Sadly, this visit makes it very hard to want to return. read more
