I decided to celebrate my birthday dinner here with my sister and a couple of close friends. I wanted Asian food, so decided this would be the spot and I liked the ambiance and menu when I researched online. I will say the service was impeccable. Our waitress was really attentive and made me feel special. She gave us all complimentary champagne and then also gave me a red velvet cake at the end of the night. I was also in the middle of two other tables celebrating birthdays, and they also received similar service. All the waitstaff worked together to clear the tables and check in, so that was great. The food was decent. I would say there were more limited options overall for a Chinese restaurant, but there were a few classic dishes. We had the glazed ribs to start, and those were pretty thick slabs of pork. I thought they could have been a bit more marinated and seasoned, but they weren't bad. For entrees, my sister and I split the pineapple fried rice with chicken and the sesame chicken. Both dishes were delicious and enough to share between two people. The pineapple fried rice actually was served in a sliced pineapple so the presentation was great, and the sesame chicken satisfied my cravings. My friend ordered the chicken Lo mein and she really enjoyed it as well. The red velvet cake was very rich, moist, and it had a crème frosting so overall 4.5/5 for food and service was excellent! I would recommend and return. read more

Where the Duck Slays and the Drinks Keep Coming Let me set the scene: Peking duck, roasted to order, carved tableside like it's getting a standing ovation. Succulent, crispy, and dripping with drama--this duck is Karol G in edible form. Served with house-made pancakes and that sweet plum sauce? Iconic. But don't show up hangry--it takes about an hour, so pace yourself. We ordered drinks right at our table like the bougie pros we are: Midnite Mojito - Cool, dark, and dangerously refreshing. Porn Star Martini - Sweet, bold, and just the right amount of scandal. Pacific Old Fashioned - Deep, smooth, and perfect for making bad decisions sound sophisticated. We passed the time with shrimp dumplings and bok choy, but let's be real--they were backup dancers. The duck? She brought the heat and left no crumbs. The ambiance is slick and sexy, but those tables? Tight enough to require a relationship therapist. If it's just two of you, prepare for intimate eye contact with strangers and eavesdropping as a shared activity. Final verdict:Philippe Chow delivers duck fit for a pop queen and cocktails that keep the party going. Just be ready to share the experience--and possibly your life story--with the table next to you. read more

I came here for dinner. For drinks I had the lychee martini and the paradise bay. The lychee martini didn't taste like other lychee martini's I've had and I wasn't a fan of the cream in it. I liked the paradise bay cocktail. It was sweet and fruity. The truffle pork soup dumplings and Beijing chicken were good but there wasn't anything special about them. The crispy beef was probably my favorite from the dishes I tried. I liked the flavor and the crispiness of it. The salt and pepper prawns were good but it was a bit overpriced for what it was. The cotton candy baked Alaska was great. I enjoyed the dessert and the presentation was fun with the flame and the firework stick. The restaurant had an elegant ambiance and the service was good. read more

After an event downtown, my homegirl and I wanted a nice chill place to grab a cocktail and maybe a little something to snack on. After checking out a bunch of places in the Wharf area, I decided that Philippe Chow would be a good spot. We sat at the bar and unfortunately weren't greeted right away as there was only 1 bartender and the bar manager working. However, the rest of the service for the evening was great. I ordered the We Are Gathered drink and shrimp spring rolls. Both were super delicious. My friend ordered the crispy duck rolls (which were amazing) and the salt and pepper eggplant (which came with a spicy Marinera sauce). Everything was excellent. Definitely check this place out if you want some upscale Asian cuisine read more

More like 3 and 1/2 Stars. Came here to do birthday dinner with mi Amiga Here's what we got Lychee martini: excellent, not very sweet but quite tasty Scallion pancake: more like a flatbread pizza. Very sweet. I didn't love it because it's not like a real scallion pancake. My Friend who's never had a before. Thought it was Fried rice with pork: just ok nothing amazing Spicy prawn: very sweet, I didn't like it Calamari: over breaded, just ok Orange chicken: too sweet, I hated it Dessert: beignets were great Interestingly Even though we told them when we were making the reservation that we were both celebrating our birthdays, they didn't offer us anything complimentary. Kind of bizarre for an upscale restaurant but whatever Parking is that your own risk on the street or in the paid garage. I chose to park in the street and took my chances Service is fine. No major issues aside from the lack of birthday pizzazz The price is quite high. Each of us ended up spending over $120, including the gratuity, which is an automatic 20% Overall I'm glad I tried it but I'm not in a great rush to try this place again. read more

We had a terrific experience enjoying the tasting menu last night at Philippe Chow. Anthony orchestrated a lovely evening for our family of six. Each course was delicious and perfectly timed, and the staff graciously accommodated my husband's allergies and diet restrictions. The feast included several different dishes for each course, and we loved almost all of them. The staff did a wonderful job. We'll do it again. read more

Booked a 4 person Sunday evening reservation here for my Mom's birthday and figured the place looked nice. Getting in wasn't too bad. There was room to drop my family off in front and a garage is located across from the restaurant. We got seated quickly next to the window and it wasn't too busy when we first got in but slowly got packed as dinner progressed. I misunderstood the menu at first and was expecting to do one of the tasting menus but we were only offered the Restaurant Week and A La Carte menus so we just ordered a bunch of different dishes. To drink we ordered a Paradise Bay, Lychee Martini, and a Tsingtao. Drinks were pretty good and they came out with our first dishes. For food, we ordered 2 Hot and Sour Soups, Salt and Pepper Calamari, Bok Choy, Shanghai Noodles, Dumpling Sampler, Truffle Pork Soup Dumplings, Wagyu Fried Rice, Crispy Beef, Peking Duck, and the Chilean Sea Bass. The best thing was definitely the Peking Duck. Carved and prepared well but I'm a little surprised the whole Duck wasn't carved and took a little convincing to get the rest of the Duck packed up. Both the sampler and the truffle dumplings were good. The Sea Bass, Wagyu Fried Rice, Bok Choy, and the Shanghai Noodles were decent, not super flavorful. The Calamari was almost flavorless unfortunately, no heat or really even any salt and pepper. Soup was ok, nothing special really. Service kind of varied throughout the meal. Our servers were attentive at first but towards the end it was hard to get their attention for the check and that issue with the duck. It felt like a special occasion type place but it kind of fell flat for us. I'd say it's 2.5 stars but I'll round up to 3. read more

Philippe Chow - The Perfect Girls' Day Finish My cousin and I came here after our facials at Silver Mirror, and honestly, it felt like the perfect "any woman's dream day" -- a little pampering, a little indulgence, and a lot of great food. From the moment we sat down, the service and atmosphere made us feel like we were in for something special -- chic, elegant, but still fun and relaxed. First Course (served for the table): Everything came out family-style, and each dish hit a different note. The chicken satay was juicy and flavorful, the duck spring rolls perfectly crisp, and the steamed edamame was the ideal light touch between bites. But the real standout? The lobster wonton chips -- chilled lobster with avocado and tangy mayo over crunchy wontons. It's rich, fresh, and honestly could've been a meal on its own. Second Course: We loved the chicken lettuce wraps and truffle chicken potstickers -- both packed with flavor. The vegetable lo mein rounded it out nicely, great for sharing and just comforting enough without being heavy. For my entrée, I had the filet mignon with green beans in a spicy brown garlic sauce -- so tender and full of flavor. My cousin went for the sweet and sour chicken, and we kept trading bites because both were that good. And then -- dessert. The red velvet cake and Moët macaroons were as delicious as they were pretty. The perfect sweet ending to an already luxurious day. All in all, Philippe Chow is one of those restaurants that feels like a celebration, whether it's a girls' day, date night, or special occasion. The service was on point, the vibe was elevated but welcoming, and every dish felt crafted with care. Can't wait to come back -- maybe after our next facial read more

The ambiance was great! I went with outdoor dinning because the weather was amazing. I had a delish strawberry lemon drop , chicken wonton soup, 9 spice prawns , green beans in garlic sauce, white rice, and beijing chicken. Anthony and Alex are amazing! The food is good, love coming here. It's so cutesy as well.

It just felt sexy to be there! Although they have a dress code. We called ahead to find out if it was OK if we came in workout gear. They graciously allowed us, and others were dressed casually as well. I'm not sure if it was because they were relaxed around the snowstorm or if this is in general. I could completely see the reason why you would dress up here, the decor and views are great! The food was good. I didn't love my dish, I had the Kung Pow chicken. I did enjoy the lettuce wraps although the texture of the meat could've been... More textured? I also enjoyed the fried shrimp dish! Overall, it's a great experience that I will repeat and look forward to reporting back after I try more dishes. read more

Always a fun time. Kung pow chicken and lobster fried rice is an out have. Flavorful food and the service by Mena was great!!!

out of 5 Food was pretty underwhelming overall and definitely not worth the price. Our first server, Mina, was inattentive and dismissive, which set a bad tone for the night. The ambience is very interesting. This restaurant has an upscale feel, but the music was more like a sports bar. Ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was not good. There was no seasoning at all. I was very disappointed at it, but split it with others who didn't mind, so I let them finish. The pineapple fried rice with shrimp was good. Still, very light of the seasoning, but naturally flavorful. The waitress was nice, but didn't check on us that much. read more

Disappointing experience at Phillipe Chow when we came here for my birthday. We all ordered the Golden Tasting Experience which unfortunately somehow took 4 hours to get through. The food was not even hot when it came out. I will say the appetizers on the tasting menu were pretty good, but the main entrees were lacking besides the spicy prawns. The Beijing Chicken was extremely sweet and the filet mignon with green beans wasn't seasoned well. The biggest disappointment though was the Peking Duck we got as a $20 add-on for the tasting menu. I'm not sure how you make Peking Duck chewy, but they somehow managed to do it. Dessert was decent overall though. The only bright spot was our server who comped us some drinks because he knew the food was taking much too long. I would not come back with these prices as I expect a higher quality food. read more

This was my second time visiting Philippe Chow and it was an amazing experience. We visited for Christmas Day and definitely do not regret our decision. This is an upscale Chinese restaurant and it lives up to the expectation. We were sat very quickly as we had a prior reservation so I definitely recommend doing this before hand. Our server was very friendly and gave us many recommendations based on our preferences. He recommended doing the pecking duck as this is the experience the restaurant is known for and I came back to retry some of my favorites. I ordered a Lychee Martini and thought it was okay, however nothing remarkable. We tried many appetizers including the walnut prawns, the dumplings and the spare ribs. Out of these three, I would reorder everything but the dumplings. We were told by our server these were very very good, however we found them a bit oily and mildly flavorless. The spare ribs were delicious and meaty and the prawns were sweet, nutty and savory all at once. It was Christmas so, of course, we opted to try their pecking duck experience ($99~). The duck itself was delicious and the experience was delightful. I wish we would have said yes to taking the rest of the duck home as I could tell there was so much more protein left in the carcass, so don't make my mistake! We also ordered the Beijing chicken and it was delicious, think of General Tso's and Sesame sauce mixed in one. Super sweet, crunchy and yummy. Overall a good experience, unfortunately did not have room for dessert as per usual but their dessert menu looked good. As I mentioned this was my second time at this restaurant and I will definitely be returning and recommending it to friends and family. Get ready to splurge and treat yourself. read more

I honestly do not get the hype. I've visited the location in Manhattan a few times -- just ok. The DC location wasn't any different. My daughter wanted to visit so mom made it happen! On a Monday evening, it wasn't too busy. The decor was nice -- reminded me of a modern steakhouse. Food - I opted for the Hot and Sour Soup, and Special Prawns with a side of broccoli. I love soup and thought the Hot and Sour Soup sounded savory. But, the consistency was to my dismay. The flavor was there, but for soup, it was too thick for my liking. It almost felt like I was drinking Mumbo Sauce (DC folks know what I am referencing). If Mumbo Sauce for soup is not your thing, definitely skip because I surely sent it back to the kitchen. The Special Prawns were good -- nice balance between sweet and salty....White rice accompanied by broccoli was a nice touch. My daughter calls herself a pork soup dumpling connoisseur. She had their Truffle Pork Soup Dumpling, and from her perspective, she said the soup dumpling was tasty, but the truffle taste wasn't there. Again, the food -- to me -- is just ok. Definitely not rushing back unless it's under my daughter's orders. Cheers! read more

I recently celebrated my birthday at Philippe Chow and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The ambiance was perfect; the music provided a great background without being too loud, and the staff's attention to detail was exceptional. We ordered the highly-recommended Peking Duck, and when the smaller table we were seated at became crowded, our waiter quickly and thoughtfully pulled the adjacent table over, giving us plenty of space to enjoy the dish--a gesture that truly enhanced our evening. The food, including the duck, was great, and the portions were satisfying. We were too full to order dessert, but our incredibly kind server still brought us a delicious sweet treat on the house to celebrate the occasion. Philippe Chow provided fantastic food and service, making it a memorable night! read more

The best part of the experience is the service. Of the four courses I had, the low mein was the best. Absolute 5. I would order again, if it wasn't $50-$60 for shrimp or beef. The fried rice was not flavorful, but oily. A 2. The spicy prawns aren't spicy. It's really a sweet and sour sauce. The prawns were a 5 due to size and freshness. The red velvet cake was good. A 3.5. Overall, PF Chang taste better. My dining mate did not like anything she received. She said her fried rice was also unseasoned. Same with the filet and green beans. Her other remark was they cover everything in sauce. What are they hiding? In my opinion lack of seasoning. The take away is: it is unseasoned. And overpriced. Not worth the traffic or $29 garage parking. Compared to dining at a classic like Capital Grille, Joe's, or Ocean Prime where the food is flavorful. Glad I tried. Will not return. read more

This location was even better than the New York locations. Our waiter, I think his name was Juan, was absolutely amazing. We had the best service ever, everyone working here was incredibly friendly. The food was amazing. We ordered the chicken satays, fried rice, crispy spring rolls, the Peking duck, the sesame chicken and the crispy beef. Every single item we ordered was a 10 out of 10. We also had the baked Alaska with cotton candy for dessert that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. We had an inside table, but we had a great view of the wharf. This is my favorite Chinese and dinner location in DC. Great service, drinks and food.

Had a dinner reservation for 5pm on NYE. We were early and showed up at 4:40 only to realize they do not open until 5. When we walked in, one of the staff still gave us a warm welcome and offered us to wait inside at the bar until 5. We were seated at a nice table, the ambiance was very romantic and comfi. Our servers Andre and Anderson were fantastic and made our experience perfect! The food was great, too. We ordered the walnut shrimp and ribs for appetizers, and the crispy duck and filet mignon and green beans for our main course. Everything was so tasty - if I had to pick my faforite dish, I would have to say the shrimp. But everything was very tasty! Thank you to everybody for a perfect evening - the ambiance, service and food were perfect. You don't get that lucky often anymore these days, especially in the more touristy areas like the Wharf! This has been on my must-go list since they opened! Finally we agreed to go on one of our monthly dinners! We reserved a few weeks in advance for a 4:15 dinner on a Saturday. This place is beautiful!!! Definitely a place to go to for the ambiance! A great date night spot! Set with the Wharf as your backdrop! We were promptly seated after everyone arrived and Dennis was our server! Just meeting him we knew we were in good hands. He took care of us from start to finish and made sure every single item we ordered arrived when it should and tasted amazing. His recommendations were all on point! We tried white pearl sangria and the sidecar for drinks. So delicious! Apps: Hot and sour soup, calamari - everything well prepared and flavorful Mains: Chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, salt and pepper prawns, beef satay, mixed veggies, and Shanghai noodles. - There wasn't anything we tried that left us wanting something else instead! What a feast. Not a single dish was greasy or salty. Go see the photos for yourself! The staff: well dressed! Every single person we encountered dressed to impress. Kind and friendly. We dined in tonight for a birthday dinner. The staff was so attentive they almost annoyed me lol THEY DIDN'T MISS A BEAT! Now when we got in there it was 10 minutes before happy hour was over so we ordered our drinks asap.$9 btw. The white pearl sangria was delicious. I personally ordered the nine seasons prawns and lo mein. But I tried the shrimp eggrolls, shrimp dumplings and salt and pepper lobster. Everything was amazing the only thing I wasn't a fan of was the lo mein. I wish I knew the prawns came with rice because I wouldn't have bothered with the lo mein. Once I added the chili sauce and soy sauce the lo mein actually tasted a lot better. The service was exceptional, the food was spectacular and the ambiance was sexy! What more can a girl ask for! My family and I came here for dinner. It's located at the wharf, there's a couple parking garages but it's usually packed and pricey. Some of my family parked outside the wharf. We made a reservation and was sat at a booth. Their White Pearl Sangria was a good cocktail. My cousin got the Midnight Mojito. It was very tart so we didn't care for it as much. We all got the 14 course tasting menu at $95 per person. The starters came put first. The vegrtable spring rolls were crunchy and full of flavor. The Honey Glazed Spare Ribs were nice and tender but wish there was more sauce. The outside had great flavor but not too much flavor otherwise. The dumplings were alright, it was 3 different types of dumplings - vegetable, Shrimp and chicken. The chicken lettuce wraps were alright as well, it was an interesting orange color and the ground chicken seemed a touch overcooked. We didn't care for the chicken satay, it actually seemed kind of cheesy which was weird. My cousin described it as a weird mac and cheese flavoring. For the main courses, the Fried rice and noodles seemed a little lacking in flavor. The rice had more flavor than the lo mein but there was a lot of green peppers which is a little different than typical lo mein. The crispy duck was great flavoring but dry. We really enjoyed the Filet Mignon and Green Beans, probably our favorite dish of the evening. The Beijing chicken was good but also slightly overcooked. We did also enjoy the sea bass. The Nine Season Spicy Prawn seemed problematic as the batter had a bit of a soapy taste and was quite unpleasant. The desserts were all pretty good, we did enjoy the chocolate trilogy cake and the red velvet. Overall, the quality of the food we received was not worth the price of what we paid for. For what should have been elevated chinese food ended up being quite disappointing for us. Service was also sparse and when they would pay attention to the table, it was great but few and far in-between sometimes. They do clear plates and some silverware between each meal sections. Not sure I would recommend coming here. read more

Service is absolutely terrible. For no reason. The hostesses and staff are more interested in communicating amongst each other instead of communicating with customers. I've been here twice, and both times, I was not even acknowledged by the hostess. There was no shortage of 3 people at the host stand, and none of them were interested in paying customers. The drinks were super sweet and weak. I didn't like the Lychee Martini at all, and wasn't expecting it to be creamy. The sangria is also super sweet as well and only contains a small amount of wine (the rest is liquer and soda water). The Lemon Drop martini tasted like straight lemon juice. For food, I got the Sweet and Sour chicken, at the recommendation of the server. It was unnecessarily sweet, and the chicken was mostly breading. I didn't even finish it. I feel like the vibe here is that they want to be high-end, but the staff, clientele, and overall product (food, drink, service) don't align with that. read more
