There was room to drop my family off in front and a garage is located across from the restaurant. We got seated quickly next to the window and it wasn't too busy when we first got in but slowly got packed as dinner progressed. I misunderstood the menu at first and was expecting to do one of the tasting menus but we were only offered the Restaurant Week and A La Carte menus so we just ordered a bunch of different dishes. To drink we ordered a Paradise Bay, Lychee Martini, and a Tsingtao. Drinks were pretty good and they came out with our first dishes. For food, we ordered 2 Hot and Sour Soups, Salt and Pepper Calamari, Bok Choy, Shanghai Noodles, Dumpling Sampler, Truffle Pork Soup Dumplings, Wagyu Fried Rice, Crispy Beef, Peking Duck, and the Chilean Sea Bass. The best thing was definitely the Peking Duck. Carved and prepared well but I'm a little surprised the whole Duck wasn't carved and took a little convincing to get the rest of the Duck packed up. Both the sampler and the truffle dumplings were good. The Sea Bass, Wagyu Fried Rice, Bok Choy, and the Shanghai Noodles were decent, not super flavorful. The Calamari was almost flavorless unfortunately, no heat or really even any salt and pepper. Soup was ok, nothing special really. Service kind of varied throughout the meal. Had a great experience at Philippe Chow at The Wharf this past Friday. We did the Moët & Satay experience and everything was well done, but the service really stood out. Victor and Anderson were amazing...super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick to fix a dish that needed to be sent back (it came out much better the second time). The standout moment for me: I mentioned to Victor, at the start that they have one of my favorite desserts from a previous visit, and when it was time for dessert, it came out without me even asking. The ambiance was perfect; the music provided a great background without being too loud, and the staff's attention to detail was exceptional. We ordered the highly-recommended Peking Duck, and when the smaller table we were seated at became crowded, our waiter quickly and thoughtfully pulled the adjacent table over, giving us plenty of space to enjoy the dish--a gesture that truly enhanced our evening. Customer service was outstanding, and our server Victor impressed us with his expertise, honesty, excellent recommendations, and attentiveness. On Sundays, the jazz band enhances the atmosphere and creates the perfect environment for enjoying conversation and laughter. We chose the Tasting Menu ($95 per person, family style, minimum four people), expecting small portions, but were pleasantly surprised by the generous servings. Make sure you're hungry before choosing the Tasting Menu, as every item listed for each course is included. We had a fantastic time and left satisfied after our four-course meal. This was my second time visiting Philippe Chow and it was an amazing experience. We visited for Christmas Day and definitely do not regret our decision. This is an upscale Chinese restaurant and it lives up to the expectation. We were sat very quickly as we had a prior reservation so I definitely recommend doing this before hand. Our server was very friendly and gave us many recommendations based on our preferences. He recommended doing the pecking duck as this is the experience the restaurant is known for and I came back to retry some of my favorites. I ordered a Lychee Martini and thought it was okay, however nothing remarkable. We tried many appetizers including the walnut prawns, the dumplings and the spare ribs. Out of these three, I would reorder everything but the dumplings. We were told by our server these were very very good, however we found them a bit oily and mildly flavorless. The spare ribs were delicious and meaty and the prawns were sweet, nutty and savory all at once. It was Christmas so, of course, we opted to try their pecking duck experience ($99~). The duck itself was delicious and the experience was delightful. I wish we would have said yes to taking the rest of the duck home as I could tell there was so much more protein left in the carcass, so don't make my mistake! We also ordered the Beijing chicken and it was delicious, think of General Tso's and Sesame sauce mixed in one. Super sweet, crunchy and yummy. Overall a good experience, unfortunately did not have room for dessert as per usual but their dessert menu looked good. I honestly do not get the hype. I've visited the location in Manhattan a few times -- just ok. The DC location wasn't any different. My daughter wanted to visit so mom made it happen! On a Monday evening, it wasn't too busy. The decor was nice -- reminded me of a modern steakhouse. Food - I opted for the Hot and Sour Soup, and Special Prawns with a side of broccoli. I love soup and thought the Hot and Sour Soup sounded savory. But, the consistency was to my dismay. The flavor was there, but for soup, it was too thick for my liking. It almost felt like I was drinking Mumbo Sauce (DC folks know what I am referencing). If Mumbo Sauce for soup is not your thing, definitely skip because I surely sent it back to the kitchen. The Special Prawns were good -- nice balance between sweet and salty....White rice accompanied by broccoli was a nice touch. My daughter calls herself a pork soup dumpling connoisseur. She had their Truffle Pork Soup Dumpling, and from her perspective, she said the soup dumpling was tasty, but the truffle taste wasn't there. Again, the food -- to me -- is just ok. Members of my family and friends were in town for a conference. On the last day of the conference, we went to Philippe Chow at the Wharf. The food was AWFUL! They must have seen us coming. First the food was served cold and some was TOOOOO SALTY. I ordered Shrimp with peanut sauce...I got cold shrimp with melted PEANUT BUTTER! Next was Fried Rice with Lobster. Then came cold rice that was boiled not fried. Everything went downhill from there. I have had MUCH better Chinese food from my local carry out. NEVER EVER WILL I REVISIT NOR RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE. Order takeout from your neighborhood carry out. It will be cheaper AND taste MUCH BETTER! Had a dinner reservation for 5pm on NYE. We were early and showed up at 4:40 only to realize they do not open until 5. When we walked in, one of the staff still gave us a warm welcome and offered us to wait inside at the bar until 5. We were seated at a nice table, the ambiance was very romantic and comfi. Our servers Andre and Anderson were fantastic and made our experience perfect! The food was great, too. We ordered the walnut shrimp and ribs for appetizers, and the crispy duck and filet mignon and green beans for our main course. Everything was so tasty - if I had to pick my faforite dish, I would have to say the shrimp. But everything was very tasty! The drinks were super sweet and weak. I didn't like the Lychee Martini at all, and wasn't expecting it to be creamy. The sangria is also super sweet as well and only contains a small amount of wine (the rest is liquer and soda water). The Lemon Drop martini tasted like straight lemon juice. For food, I got the Sweet and Sour chicken, at the recommendation of the server. It was unnecessarily sweet, and the chicken was mostly breading. I didn't even finish it. Satay was, well, weird. Their peanut sauce is not authentic and has a caramel/buttery sweetness to it that was very heavy. The duck was a disappointment. I know duck is fatty, but this was all fat - had almost no other taste. Service was ok, not outstanding and waiter brought the bill without offering dessert. We made a reservation and was sat at a booth. Their White Pearl Sangria was a good cocktail. My cousin got the Midnight Mojito. It was very tart so we didn't care for it as much. We all got the 14 course tasting menu at $95 per person. The starters came put first. The vegrtable spring rolls were crunchy and full of flavor. The Honey Glazed Spare Ribs were nice and tender but wish there was more sauce. The outside had great flavor but not too much flavor otherwise. The dumplings were alright, it was 3 different types of dumplings - vegetable, Shrimp and chicken. The chicken lettuce wraps were alright as well, it was an interesting orange color and the ground chicken seemed a touch overcooked. We didn't care for the chicken satay, it actually seemed kind of cheesy which was weird. My cousin described it as a weird mac and cheese flavoring. For the main courses, the Fried rice and noodles seemed a little lacking in flavor. The rice had more flavor than the lo mein but there was a lot of green peppers which is a little different than typical lo mein. The crispy duck was great flavoring but dry. We really enjoyed the Filet Mignon and Green Beans, probably our favorite dish of the evening. The Beijing chicken was good but also slightly overcooked. We did also enjoy the sea bass. The Nine Season Spicy Prawn seemed problematic as the batter had a bit of a soapy taste and was quite unpleasant. The desserts were all pretty good, we did enjoy the chocolate trilogy cake and the red velvet. Overall, the quality of the food we received was not worth the price of what we paid for. For what should have been elevated chinese food ended up being quite disappointing for us. Service was also sparse and when they would pay attention to the table, it was great but few and far in-between sometimes. They do clear plates and some silverware between each meal sections. I really don't like submitting a bad review, but I am hoping that this can serve as a wake-up call to the restaurant, and a warning to others until you start to see more regular positive reviews. From the start, this restaurant week excursion to the beautiful location on DC's Wharf, was destined for disaster. Horrible, and I mean horrible service (it was nearly 20 minutes after being seated before any showed up with water or menus and another 15 for a drink order...and it got worse from there). You would think though that the food would have eased the pain of the slow service. Sadly, no. I would say if you want this level of Chinese inspired food, go to P.F. Changs and have a feast. I would also say that what we were served could probably also be found at Panda Express on a good day. The only good food that was served were the desserts, which I have to presume, were produced elsewhere and brought in. I'm not going to do a blow - by - blow (item by item) review because I don't want to pile on this already negative assessment. But please, please restaurant management either fix these problems or consider another line of work. Another spectacular evening curated by Abbi and his team. I REALLY enjoy Rowa as our server. She was warm and kind and attentive plus takes some AMAZING pics lol. We did the chicken lettuce wraps, the salt and pepper shrimp, the shrimp fried rice, and the whole duck. The duck is TRULY the star ! (But those shrimp are also addictive!!) OH AND when I ordered the broccoli she made sure to put the sauce on the side which was SO thoughtful! The Wharf location is a real plus--lovely waterfront views and a lively vibe make it an appealing spot for dinner. Service was very good: the staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient. Parking is in The Wharf's underground garage, though getting there by car during rush hour can be tricky due to traffic. The restaurant was quite empty during our visit, and the food, while pricey, didn't quite match the cost. The dishes we tried--Crispy Cauliflower ($18) and Salt and Pepper Eggplant ($17), both fried vegetable options with similar seasonings; Pineapple Fried Rice ($20); Dumpling Sampler ($26); Nine Seasons Spicy Prawns ($44); and Chilean Sea Bass ($42)--were on the greasy and heavy side, reminiscent of older American-style Chinese food from places like New Orleans decades ago. It's not particularly authentic or light/health-focused, and quite different from the more refined Beijing-style dishes we enjoy at Mr. Chow in central Manhattan. On the drinks side, the beer selection was so-so, but the lychee martini was quite good, though a bit too sweet. Overall, 2 out of 5 stars. I truly enjoyed Philippe Chow and will be back. I've been wanting to try this restaurant since it arrived and I wasn't disappointed at all. I went because it was restaurant week but then didn't even order off of the restaurant week menu. The service was amazing. The chef even came out and chatted with us. The ambiance was great and I love that they have outdoor seating, although we didn't sit outside. It was quiet and our waitress was amazing. Definitely check this place out if you get a chance. read more

I had a wonderful experience last night! The restaurant is moody with the lighting and it is the same for their restrooms too. I suppose they could make the bathroom lighting brighter. I've been to Philippe Chow before and had good experiences, which is exactly why we chose it for a birthday dinner for a party of 9. Unfortunately, this visit at the DC Waterfront location was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We were initially told the wait would be 15 minutes, then suddenly it became 30 minutes, all while we watched other parties get seated ahead of us. It already set the tone for what turned into a frustrating night. Our server, Meenaskshi, was very inattentive. She was barely available, rarely checked on us, and at times wouldn't even look our way when we were clearly trying to get her attention from just a few feet away. What made it worse was watching her be very attentive to the table directly across from us while we were consistently ignored. Several of our glasses arrived with black debris inside them. When we asked for replacements, her attitude was nasty and dismissive instead of apologetic, which is unacceptable in a restaurant at this price point. The food quality was also a huge letdown compared to past visits. Portions were smaller, flavors were off, and nothing felt worth the cost. The chicken satay had no real flavor at all -- it tasted like old fried oil with a heavy, semi-sweet oily sauce dumped on top. Overall, the food lacked freshness and seasoning. The most disappointing part was the birthday experience. The guest of honor received a dessert with a dry, awkward "happy birthday," while the table across from us had multiple staff come out and sing for their celebration. It made the difference in service impossible not to notice and left a bad impression on our entire group. For a restaurant with Philippe Chow's reputation, this experience was unacceptable. Between misleading wait times, poor service, dirty glassware, bland overpriced food, and inconsistent treatment, we truly wish we had chosen somewhere else. Not the best Chinese food that I've ever had but I'm sure it's great for DC standards. Service is good and the restaurant has a modern vibe. We came on a Saturday night so it was busy and food was a little slow to come out. We ordered the walnut shrimp, the shanghai noodles, salt & pepper squid, and the Maine lobster. None of the dishes were memorable. I've had better Chinese food at a lesser price point. It gets busy around the Wharf and rideshare isn't allowed to pick you up in front of the restaurant. read more
