Stopped in for dinner recently and it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. We were greeted by the bartender walking in and the hostess seconds later. She led us to a comfortable booth with menus in hand. Once seated, a carafe of water was delivered to our table. Our server was very kind, friendly and professional and she made our dining experience that much better. A small concise menu, with some great locally caught seafood. Several small plate options and some good daily specials. This is also true "Nor-Cal" slow dining, so sit back relax and enjoy the ride... and it was worth it here. We started with some popcorn and pastacios with paprika as an appetizer, crunchy, salty and spicy its a great bar snack, along with a dozen fresh local Humboldt bay Kumamoto oysters on the half shelf, they are in one word - delicious. Next the of soup of the day, a bowl of fresh corn bisque that was quite tasty and full flavored. Along with some beautiful crostini with fresh a Salmon mousse, again very good. Then for the entree, again fresh local caught Salmon (like seriously fresh caught that day by one of the owners) cooked to perfection and serves over a polenta with brocollini and mushrooms, it was spectacular. Along with a cold tap of another local, Redwood Curtain Pilsner. All in all an exceptional meal, we will return and recommended. Dinner start to finish, from the moment we were greeted to the time we left, two hours and some change and we enjoyed every bit of it. 4.5 Stars - rounded up for the great service 00812

Direct from the Grand Ole Opry! Ladies and gentlemen, it's the inimitable braying of Miss Phatsy Kline! "Crazy... I'm crazy for feelin' so hungry I'm crazy... crazy for feelin' so starved I knew you'd feed me as long as you wanted And then someday I'd leave the plate for somebody new..." When I saw the name of this place, I just felt a need for me and Jamie W. to try it as part of our weekender in Eureka. The name was just too retro-quaint to ignore even though we didn't know anything about the food. When we walked in, it felt more like a 1970's-era fern bar with black lighting with dining tables at a premium. In fact, we had to dine on a high-top and sit on stools. However, we were willing to overlook the lack of comfort if the food was good. Our feeling was that Phatsy's is a tavern trying to find its legs as a fine dining restaurant. The result was a mixed bag for us. It appeared they do fine on bar bites like the $13 Chickpea Cakes served on a bed of greens with tzatziki dressing, cucumber, avocado, and roasted cashews (photo: https://bit.ly/3aoq8Cs). While it was a bit of a mess from a presentation standpoint, it was a satisfying veggie option with nice consistency on the cakes. The $13 Arugula & Baby Greens was too similar in preparation and ingredients to the chickpea cakes to provide us with real variety, but it was quite a robust and flavorful entree serving of salad with pomme fruit, chickpea, blue cheese, and cranberries, all of it drizzled with avocado dressing and accompanied by a wedge of papadum (photo: https://bit.ly/3ay5u2R). On the downside was our shared entree from their special menu updates. We tried the $21 Sweet Ancho-Rubbed Tri-Tip and found it way too chewy. We weren't asked what would be our preferred doneness, and while we veer toward rare, just not this rare as it was really challenging to digest even in a red wine demi glacé. It came with roasted, whipped potatoes, a welcome sight, as well as a veggie medley of zucchini, sweet peas, and Brussels sprouts (photo: https://bit.ly/397pj0K). Despite the abundance of food and a live piano, I have to admit we were disappointed. "Worry... why do I let myself worry? Wonderin' what in the world did I eat? Crazy for thinking that my stomach could hold it I'm crazy for tryin' and crazy for cryin' And I'm crazy for eatin' that meat." FOOD - 3 stars...the bar bites and sides worked, but that tri-tip was a bust AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...definitely more of a vintage tavern during the disco era SERVICE - 3.5 stars..,cordial enough TOTAL - 3 stars...I wonder if Patsy would've liked Phatsy's RELATED - Exploring the Lost Coast? I had saw here on yelp that they allow dogs here, like actually inside. But I guess it's an unofficial policy, so please keep it a "well known" secret. I thought they had a patio area, but I didn't see any when I went so I asked the owner/bartender and he told me unofficially, it was alright. So we just sat in the corner with our pup. It was super nice. We were able to enjoy our drinks without leaving our dog behind. They have a menu of specialty drinks but I just ended up with a Moscow mule and my hubby had a Lost Coast beer. It's an inexpensive place for the basic drinks. I think they had specialty cocktails for $15-16. They have some snacks but we didn't get any nor did I see anyone else noshing. It was super chill inside. They played some mellow music. The vibe was almost speakeasy type. The owner even put down a bowl of water for the dog and showed us cute pics of his pup also. So that was much appreciated. They were doing Edger Allen Poe readings next door or in another room of this place so there were cute visitors coming and going, which definitely added to the vibe. This place is located in the Eagle House.

This place is the Cat`s Pajamas !! The moment you walk in you can notice the unusual quirkiness of this place . The ambience is eccentric and instantly attracts you to some of the eclectic design choices.. floor covered in pennies, high shelves with books , unusual paintings ,tall ceilings and very comfy seating. We loved the vibe instantly but were disappointed when we found out that the kitchen was closed even as early as 5 PM due to some staff shortage and they only could provide food from the restaurant next door . However , we came in more for the craft cocktails than anything else so we proceeded to order those .I got a pistol peach and my hubby asked the bartender to make him an Old Fashioned . We also got the Poke Nachos . The drinks were lovely but expensive. I am all for spending on a well made cocktail but did not find the drinks as good as the prices they charged. The staff was sweet and very efficient . parking was right outside on the streets but I did find the other end of the street a little sketchy to park at .

We had a WONDERFUL time! Emily, the bartender, is the best. Hands down. Fun atmosphere in a historic building with so much charm! My husband and I had a BLAST! We stayed for five hours. Wonderful slice of culture. Emily knows her stuff! If you're a literature fan? Even better! 11/10 Recommend!

We had an absolutely wonderful cocktail hour meal here! We started with cocktails from their interesting and fun list and then ordered most every food item off their menu, which is one of the things I love about a small plates menu... you get to try a bit of everything. We thoroughly enjoyed oysters (raw), seared scallops on a bed of grains with broccolini with a fennel heart and jicama salad and milk chile sauce, a crimini and oyster mushroom bisque, and a flatbread with pesto sauce, sauteed trumpet mushrooms, leeks, and a mix of feta and pecorino cheeses. We finished things off by sharing their honey apple cake with almond crumble crust and vanilla ice cream. The lovely service, space, and ambiance perfectly complemented our meal here.

Phatsy Kline's is a historic theater converted into a restaurant/lounge. They did a great job with the renovations in steampunk/slightly goth decor. - Cardamom rose ($12): The grapefruit overpowered every other ingredient in this drink. 2/5 - Lavender pisco sour ($11): Frothy, light and refreshing. 4/5 - Truffled quail egg shooters, drunken ($18): Loved the rich quail egg and the sake back, and the presentation was so fun! There was too much soy, no trace of truffle, and it needed something acidic. Maybe some ponzu? 3/5 - Humboldt bay oysters ($3/ea): Yummy chèvre topping. The oysters were cooked well too. Slightly fishy. 3/5 - Phyllo cigars ($15): Interesting concept. I like beets and I like phyllo. The amount of beets in these cigars made them super floppy and a bit soggy. A solid vegetarian dish. 3/5 - Slow cooked birria ($20): Made from goat, the way it's traditionally made. We were excited because we've only had beef birria until now. If we hadn't been told it was goat, we wouldn't be able to tell. Tender, but extremely salty. 2/5 Really great presentation, but the food itself fell a bit short. Service was also slow and we had to ask for napkins, plates, and utensils.

First off, I was able to make phone reservations with Google assistant. I've never tried this before and was stoked when I received an email that my table was booked! My chosen time wasn't available but I could specify a preferred time range. This is a great option for a phone-shy millennial like me, I just wish there was a recording of what the assistant actually said :):) did it sound human? too human? I will never know!! we were seated immediately, service was super friendly at first, but lacking afterwards. very cute booths and decor all around. unfortunately they were out of most items because they were reserving them for a larger party. that was super disappointing. drinks 5/5: my non alcoholic drink (Frida Kahlo?) was amazing! I asked for it less sweet and they made it just right. really brought out the tea flavors chickpea cakes 2/5: they looked yummy but were unfortunately very very bland. there was no seasoning or flavor and it was hard to eat phyllo cigars stuffed with beets 3/5 : this was an interesting concept, it tasted better than the chickpea cakes but also lacked flavor. however it paired well with the sauce soup of the day (butternut squash) 2/5: ugh, the blandness is back!! the soup was impossible to finish. the accompanying garlic knots were decent seafood special (seared scallops) 5/5: my husband ordered this and really liked it. I tried the roasted veggies and black rice, both were great creme brulee 5/5: this had an orange blossom flavor and was really good! one of the best I've had overall I chose 3 stars because we couldn't try their more interesting items and what we ordered missed the mark most of the time. the food also took a very long time to come out (30-40 min). the hotel is definitely interesting but not worth the price we paid.

I found this place by accident, but it looked crazy cool and I was hungry so I went in. The decor is really well done. Warm, inviting and interesting with lots of art. The cocktail menu was creative and so were the mock tails. I love it when mixologists acknowledge that not everyone drinks alcohol, but they do like well made bevies with complex flavor profiles. The menu of tapas are delightful and well executed. I had the Ahi Poke and it was divine, so was the corn chowder. I will definitely be back and so should you! read more

I adore this place. My GF discovered this spot and couldn't stop talking about it. It made my heart happy when i would be at work and she would message me several texts saying how much fun she is having and how shes enjoying the food so much. I finally got to try it on Easter. Upon walking in i felt like i was taken to a different time almost, the music and decor right away will take you in. The decor has SO MUCH attention to detail. high ceilings and exposed pipes which usually in most places are dusty and painted white.. they are actually painted beautifully and very clean it gives off a very cool "steampunk" vibe. The library type book shelves are lit with awesome lighting, not to mention the cool art pieces all around. they had bunny rabbits that you can hold (YES cuz ya know..EASTER) and they are super pet friendly. The staff was so cool and nice, the owner said hi and pet our dog and even took a pic of us for the IG page! we felt so cool! The menu and food is insane. Its not just "bar eats" its high end cuisine. We got quail eggs with soju...and sake shooters. beyond delicious. I cant get over how much i like this place. The owner was so nice and you can tell how much she cares and how much she puts into the place, even the bathroom was awesome! They have a INN thats part of the bar/restaurant that has a seriously beautiful ball room and rooms to stay in. i cant wait to try one a little getaway thats close by but feels so far. Im leaving out plenty of reasons to go because there are just too many reasons to list. Its whimsical and just plain amazing. Amazing cocktail lounge! One of the best Old Fashioned I've had served in the county! Come on by for some great vibes, expertly crafted drinks, and various live events. My wife and I attended the Office Trivia night, which was amazing. The place was packed! Wow!!! My wife and I have been coming here for a few years.....it's always been a really cool spot to have a good meal with wine......BUT.....SOMETHING REALLY NICE HAS HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE!!! Our favorite restaurant of a three week road trip. The menu is a lot of fun: paprika flavored popcorn with candied pistachios is maybe the best munchie to have with a glass of beer or cider. The phyllo cigars filled with root vegetables was one of a kind and delicious. Their wine by the glass list was great (I'm afraid we may have tried them all). The birria was very well made. This spot was the highlight of our visit to eureka. The food was phenomenal and the ambiance was unlike any other place I've ever been to. Always a treat. Been here a few times and plan on going many many more. The birria tacos, the toast, the crepes... dressed greens on the side are so fresh and tasty. The cocktails are superb and the taps are excellent. The kind of place I pig out but don't feel gross afterwards. The folks that work here are awesome and the decor is quite lovely too. read more

We ate indoors and they had expanded into an event space during covid, so tables were really far apart. Food was very good, especially the pistachio popcorn and phyllo cigars. Our order got messed up a couple of times but we appreciated the wait person's honesty and offer to comp desert. Stuff happens. I would say the service was very good and I definitely go back. read more

If there were six stars availability, I would still give seven stars. This is my new favourite in Eureka. And here is why- PLEASE SEE UPDATE AT THE END. The environment I could hardly do better myself and I pride myself with immaculate and out of reach expensive taste, yet Phatsy's has conquered a niche market with local and ethic accents with antique and historical undertones to bring to life a great place with a vibe, not pretentious, yet comfortable and inviting living room/speakeasy/luxurious personal heart. There is room to mingle, an outdoor area for us smokers, and a charming and comfortable bar, like that practically representative of the building's history, like that of an apothecary with tinctures to remedy anything. I would bring my grandmother there, my party friends, my nephew, and a date- and I would impress my date- unless I met him there, which would only be a check on the list for good taste. The staff is attractive and kind, personable and while they are talking with you, they are very efficient and professional making fantastic cocktails for you, AND at a reasonable price. The wine list is good, there is one cider that I enjoyed-I wish there were more ciders, but the bar is a full and then some bar, and the staff helped me find something new and different, and were knowledgeable about even the mezcal they carry, and having studied mezcal in Oaxaca, I was very impressed and thus had a lovely conversation with Brad, the manager, about that! The drinks and selection are of a great pour and a great aptitude for how a good drink is supposed to taste, the prices are very reasonable for what they provide. In that, my only complaint is not a complaint, yet a bravo- they use REAL sodas and fresh organic ingredients, not that which is provided by a distributor. When I want a Coke, I want a Coke, but they give cane sugar cola, which is amazing. Here's why- it's the best, for starters, made small-scale. It's healthier. It does not contribute any more money to corporate takeover. So I love that even though sometimes I want a Coca Cola, I am enamored by the will and drive of the owners to make a change through action, which would make me pay twice as much and support what I'm drinking even more. Downside- they close usually before midnight, but depends on the night and I'm just waking up. ALL IN ALL, this is the BEST of Eureka, and they take pride in what they're doing. And PRIDE ALSO in that I discovered a rainbow flag atop the building, so please bring most importantly a great attitude, tolerance, acceptance and love with a flare for a great time, your homosexuality, bisexual tendencies, straight and everybody is loved and welcome here. I couldn't be happier than to bring great people to a great environment, and this is where I bring them. Please go have fun, and I'll see you there as much as I can be there. AFTER HAVING POSTED THIS, I have had a horrible time twice. The Halloween Hostess was the rudest person I've encountered in a long time. Viper-tongued and self-righteous, she was rude to me and my guests who I invited there. Took forever to get a mediocre expensive drink, met the owner- she's got to get over herself- left with a bad taste in my mouth. Went again to have a drink out- don't know how many owners there are, but met another one, and she was worst than the next. All in all, my first impression was great, but all that glitters is NOT gold. Keep digging, because this place has turned out to be the pits:( read more

Awesome space. The lounge, ballroom and on and on. LOVE IT! Decent phone back for a reservation (2:30pm for a 6pm reservation) Truly great martini. = 1 Star Front Desk of Inn at C & 2nd closed 12pm-3pm. Really? FYI, there is no desk sign, they don't actually throw everyone out, lock the doors or acknowledge you if they are vacuuming (2nd floor housekeeper). They just don't come to the desk. You're lobby is hard enough to locate, you should at least give people the prize of your presence if they manage to find it! Waiter was also a bartender, gave us specials only when we asked and only gave them one at a time. The real kicker: one of two women gave him the credit card to pay - he returned it to the only man in the group, then laughed that it mattered at all. Let bartenders be bartenders and get some real wait persons! We went for Quail Egg Shooters. They've added a significant amount of soy/salt. Remaining dishes were terrible; burnt phyllo cigars, week old beets with duck confit could have been used as BB pellets, duck confit was ok until it cooled (which is very quick when you don't serve it IN something) and a flatbread that was good fresh veggies until doused in a horrid bbq sauce. Phasty's lounge new menu was more delicious then ever ! so many yummy options to choose from. The forest mushroom bisque soup with duck confit grilled cheese fig on homemade sourdough was amazing!!! The food was great and the vibe was nice. Those are not the issues. The issue is a bartender who ran my card with extra items (that I had not ordered) on it. The issue is that after I pointed this out, she assured me this would be refunded. The issue is she ran my card again for my actual purchase. The issue is that both of those charges posted to my account. The issue is when I went back to Phatsy's and brought this up with the manager I was given excuse after excuse and told it would take more than several minutes of "research" to get resolved. Not impressed. The place looks cool and I loved the cat theme but the people working in the evening were super rude. Such a shame, I was really excited to go to this place for my graduation but the workers were so rude that we decided to go somewhere else. This is America, not a communist country. Wake up, people. However, one of the employees in the morning was very nice and brought us water and made sure we had what we needed while we ate our breakfast in the dining area. I look forward to coming back here once everything is open, including the breakfast and tea time at the Inn at 2nd and C. Both the CDC and President Biden have announced that masks are not required as along as the person is fully vaccinated. As soon as we walked into the restaurant to get a table, one of the employees told we us we needed to wear masks indoors. We respectfully told her that we are all vaccinated and she continued to talk down to us in a disrespectful manner. My whole family and I were shocked by the tone of voice that she used and she kept saying "This is California! You have to wear a mask indoors because THIS is California!" We are all from California. We then said that people sitting at tables don't need to wear masks so we would just sit at a table so we wouldn't "spread our germs." She then proceeded to tell us that they stopped serving food at 8:45 and it was 8:47. So we're going to order some desserts and drinks to celebrate my college graduation. As we were looking at the menu, we saw and heard her talking very rudely about our family so we decided to go celebrate somewhere else. It's places like this that just really need to learn wrong from right. If she would have spoken to us in a more respectful manner, we would have either put masks on to walk 4 feet to the table or would have left. Again, the president himself has announced that masks are not required for those who are fully vaccinated. Y'all should come visit the country and breathe some fresh air! :) read more

After wandering in on an idle Tuesday, Jake made us superlative cocktails, including those on and off the menu. This is unequivocally the most well thought out and executed bar in Humboldt. Then we were told the kitchen was a little behind, and about every 10 minutes after that we were told our food would arrive soon. When the food arrived my mash potatoes were cold at the center. When the waitress checked back with about whether we liked our food I told her it was good but my potatoes were cold. Of course the waitress apologized. The restaurant reduced the cost of my entree by 20%. Although the kitchen got behind I believe this was actually a failure of management. If the kitchen was understaffed they knew it and should have reduced the number of tables being served, or spaced out seating more customers until the kitchen caught up. I also noticed that as tables turned over newly seated customers were warned the kitchen was behind, but never told how far behind. I hope Gallagher's improves.

Very nice place with very good food. A couple of amateurish foibles but for the most part a very nice evening. I went with a fairly large group and we sat in the ballroom, a beautiful room from the 1880s. Despite the gaffs I think 4 stars is right; the food was very good and everyone enjoyed it. You also see a bartender with the best beard for 100 miles. Here were the issues: It's difficult to tell from the menu how much food to order. Nothing on the menu looks like a full meal. There are no protein, veggie and starch items so it looks like tapas. When the food started coming out we were stunned by the volume of food we had over-ordered. I had a bowl of gumbo and the three cheese platter. It was a large bowl of soup and the cheese plate had half a pound of cheese on it. Most of the cheese is now in a box in the fridge. We arrived at 6:00 on a Wednesday and had no food until 7:00. Oysters are featured prominently on the top of the page but when I ordered them I was told they were out. We should have been told when we got the menus. Our servers didn't know things like the names of the cheeses on the cheese platter (there are only 3 to learn..) With all that my group plans on returning next year and no one complained about anything they ordered and I heard a lot of people praising the food. I tried the calamari and it was very good, nicely fried and spiced and very tender. I also had some of the shrimp toast which was also very tasty. They also have a nice short wine list and I had a glass of Old Growth Cellars petite syrah. I always try to get wine from the closest vineyards and Old Growth is nearby. I have a love-hate relationship with this place because they truly make amazing cocktails in the ambience is something that Humboldt just doesn't have anywhere else. My only complaint with this place and it's happened to me numerous numerous times so I can leave this review confidently and say I have had many experiences with this place. Their service needs to be improved because even though they are always well staffed, I seem to always have to sit there with an empty drink for at least 15-20 minutes until I'm finally recognized by a bartender even though there's four bartenders behind the bar talking, this place truly is a gem but but if they want five stars, and to be a place that is just perfect they need to work on their service and attention to detail. read more

Delicious, fresh and locally sourced menu items that can't be found anywhere else in Eureka, let alone Humboldt! Their brunch is the bomb... so good that we went back for dinner and once again, everything we ordered was exquisite! Oh and don't forget to try one (or two) of their craft cocktails, the smoking ginger boo is my favorite. If you haven't been to Phatsy's, you're missing out. read more

Equal parts sexy and cozy in atmosphere. Turquoise velvet upholstered booths, antique books lining the walls. Lots of live acts, and lovely selection of wine. My favorite bar in Eureka- hands down. read more
