Came in while doing a little trip up from the Bay Area to get away for a few days and glad I did. Drinks are excellent and fairly priced and the bar and building is gorgeous. But honestly the best part is the owner (Erika) is really nice and super knowledgeable about the area and the customer base seems super close knit. I came in on a Wednesday so definitely not peak hours but everyone that came in chatted with owner for a bit which was nice to see. Highly recommend for anyone visiting from out of town, Erika and her customers seem to know a lot about the area so a good first stop for anyone trying to get a sense of things to do! My bandmates and I were in the mood for a cocktail after a performance, and we found this spot. Very cool ambiance. I loved the old-school Eureka woodwork on the bar, and the casual, yet classy, vibe. The bartenders were friendly and we got to know them a bit. One was a co-owner and the other was an artist who paints murals and does other artwork. I would highly recommend North of Fourth if you want to relax, play darts/checkers, or sit on a couch or just hang at the bar. There was even a small piano sitting there. They mentioned that the mat be having some live music in the future. No sports bar or dive atmosphere here; just warm and welcoming vibes. read more

A more laid back mature bar. Not many college aged patrons here, at least this night. Couple of musicians jamming this night. Beautiful outdoor patio area with the most awesome flowers and succulents! Check it out day or night. Indoor area smells woody and clean. Big seating area. Drank 14 Jamesons at the Shanty and went next door to get a lap dance at the schooner. Halfway through the song I realized something was a bit off. Turns out the schooner is now a swanky cocktail bar and the former dancers now hang out a few blocks away in front of the mission. The bartender was very understanding and offered to call me a cab, although she failed to provide a complimentary lap dance. read more

The atmosphere is breathtaking, our bartender Lake was more that phenomenal. I asked for some bartender surprised and he knocked it out of the park! He was so attentive and sweet. I would HIGHLY recommend this bar, especially if Lake is working! worth every penny and then some!! read more

Love the atmosphere but damn your drinks are very expensive for what you get. You measure out the tiny shot and serve in this tiny glass for 11 dollars! I'm all about quality ingredients and spending more for it, but you gotta make a stiff drink if you want people to come back! this was like a tiny plastic glass you get from the dollar store. Calm, friendly, absolutely gorgeous bar with a laid back vibe, delicious aromatic craft cocktails, a delightful patio, live music of the sort that can either be enjoyed or left to the background. People practicing jazz. People playing dynamite instruments. I learned a thing or two watching the bartender. I met a dog. All sorts of folk wandered in... I dig a bar where people mix. Great place for locals to dig our community vibe. Wonderful little liquor welcoming center for travelers. Looks like a dump from the outside but has a nice patio and bar. Great selection of beers on tap and hand crafted cocktails. This property is much bigger than it appears from the outside but the indoor space does not seem to be utilized as most of the back area is closed off. There is a single toilet or your other option is a Porto potty at the the back of the garden area This place has potential if they clean up the outside and open more of the under utilized indoor space. read more

Place is open like once a week, the person who owns it is behind the bar and she clearly doesn't need to turn a profit, it's her hobby. Takes her 15 minutes to make a drink and she will just chat it up with someone in front of you for another five. It's fancy for the sake of being fancy and priced accordingly. read more

Love what the new owners did to this place. So cozy and nice inside. Love the patio area too. Drinks are pricey though and service can be very, very slow. The younger girls seem to be faster paced and more efficient. Love the atmosphere though and not crowded with people. read more

Randomly decides to check this place out during Arts Alive and was so glad I did. The drinks were delicious and the bartenders friendly. I had the Pomegranate Gimlet and the Corpse Reviver which were both tasty. I loved that they kept a piece of the floor and wallpaper of the bar/saloon that used to be at that location. It would be great if the patio area was better utilized and there was a more obvious way to get to patio from the inside. read more

I gave it 4 stars...only because I haven't been inside yet. I visited the fenced-in patio garden (privacy outdoors, yay!) and was thrilled with the magnificent sunflowers and other blooming plants and greenery plus colored string-lights and the ambiance of the enclosure; I can't wait to find time and the mood for a cocktail in the evening on the patio. Someone in the reviews mentioned that the exterior looked trashed, but that's wrong; it's actually beautifully refinished and a huge improvement over how the old 'Schooner' looked in its past...I watched the new owner work his butt off on the exterior improvements from a vantage point close by. It definitely improves the appearance of that part of 3rd St. As a landmark for location, it's right next door to "The Shanty" inside the building that used to be "The Schooner" at 3rd and C in Old Town Eureka. I dropped in this place a few times to watch girls dance. Do they still have "strippers" here? It was a really sweet dark, danky dive. Cheap drinks and very little contact with the other booze-hounds! I love all the divey dives in Eureka. read more
