We had company from out of town and wanted to treat them to a good atmosphere in Old Town. We found the perfect spot and we were pleasantly surprised to discover the Pearl bar. Our bartender Sam was a delight! Very accommodating, & personable. We sat in a booth and watched the baseball game. We didn't realize we could order our dinner from the "511" restaurant from which we'd made reservations that afternoon. The food was very good, reasonably priced and served very quickly as the restaurant was packed thru the connecting door to the Pearl. Many thanks to the bartender Sam for making the evening even better! Love the bar tenders but other then that I had a really bad experience here..... Never going here again.... word to the wise the security guards here are unprofessional and they will mess with you, bar gets shut down a lot because of fights, and quite often woman are treated badly here. I liked this bar a lot because I wanted to have a cool place to go dance but I rather never deal with what I went through again. After reading some of the mixed reviews here I wasn't sure what to think of the Pearl. I ended up performing there yesterday and couldn't have had a better time. Good drinks, nice staff, comfortable environment and great ambiance. Contrary to Pablo's previous one star review, I found the acoustics to be surprisingly good. There is, indeed, a stage, but alas, no true P.A. system. The bartender (or -tendress) is required to adjust microphone volume levels from behind the bar and there are only two mic inputs. Also, they didn't have microphones or stands. Just a caveat. You may very well have to bring your own. All that having been said, the design, layout and aesthetic of The Pearl Lounge is non-peril; stainless steel through and through. I was extremely impressed and am already looking forward to the next trip through Eureka. read more

Sometimes it's nice to slug someone's skull--- or get knocked on your ass. So, I'm an ancient HSU grad, but I come back to area a time or two. For a recent trip, I was there with a gaggle of homies. We wanted to go out for a night (Saturday night, that is), so one of our local friends recommended the Pearl. FROM THE OUTSIDE::: It was a mixed bag. The bar front was stylishly modern and metal. But the douchebaggery, hipster-ness, and knuckle-headed-dom observed outside on the street did not bode well. ON THE INSIDE::: It was worse. Yes, they had a dancefloor and some danceable music was spinning, BUT it was too packed! I mean seriously. It was freakin' hard to breathe in there, much less maneuver. Miraculously, some of the scouts in my group were able to negotiate some chairs & a table (a high point). But I swear, there were several times when I said to myself, "Is Corey G gonna have to slap a fool?" (a la Wayne Brady from Chappelle Show). I bit my lip and fought the urge. Instead.... We hit the dance floor. Yes, music DOES soothe the savage beast. So yeah, if you can hit it here on a less crowded night, I'm sure this place is alright, just beware of the hecka-crowded nights (because my fist might be flying your way!). ;) read more

Even before walking in, we encountered cute little twenty year-old things dressed for a fun night out. Once inside, there were more. A Chris Brown song blasted and video projected on the far wall, near the dance floor. I sat for a moment on a nice cushy seat thing before exchanging glances with my significant other. We admired some of the attire before getting up and searching for some place more diverse in age. Another cool thing is that on Friday and Saturday nights they turn the bar into more of a club, some of the only dancing in humboldt! Absolutely exquisite! My husband and I were on a trip to see the Ave of the Giants. He wanted to visit a bar he had played at some 10 years ago in Eureka, and Pearl Lounge was it.... Little did I know how incredible the food and service would be!! I was a chef in LA for many years, and I am Italian, and I must say I'm impressed! Had a few choices from the menu, including the crispy pork belly, polenta and a House porchetta! All absolutely amazing, flavorful and fresh. Wish we lived closer so we could try everything on the menu, including a very tasty looking Poke menu! Thank you for the great service and incredible delicious food Pearl, we will be back! read more

I like cleanliness and the Pearl Lounge is definitely sleek, modern and clean. Too bad I can't say the same thing for some of the folks that drop by. And it's not like a bar where everyone is just chillin with their drink at a table. It's a lounge... meaning, you get some of the stankiest people dancing on the dance floor... do you know what that means? It means their BO gets exponentially worse while their jamming out to the latest top 40. I used to frequent Pearl almost weekly since it's one of the few places in town for drinks and dancing. This time, I watched the bartender return my card to the wrong person. He didn't care at all; he simply told me there was that there was nothing he could do about it and that I need to cancel my debit card. Ok since the club I used to go to closed down this was the only place left to go and dance. I love the glow of the place the bartenders aren't all that but the dj's they hire spin pretty good. A nice swanky lounge. Great Martini's. The staff has improved greatly. When they first opened in December 2005, the girls who worked there had a 'tude' bigger than Mt. Everest. Glad some of them were knocked out of the bar..it prevented me from returning until recently. The acoustics are so-so. The bar design is very elegant and different with it's recycled glass in the concrete bar.. They have a ladies night. They have cool bands and believe it or not, I like going there Sunday afternoons. the bar is quiet and my husband and I get to know whatever bartender is working. I went here only once to listen to my boyfriend's father perform. The acoustics were good and the seats were comfortable. Drinks were mixed well though pricey and the bartender was pleasant. The place was crowded with people that I wouldn't usually socialise with but ultimately it just wasn't my scene. Definitely a great after work place to meet up. You definitely get a good serving of alcohol for how much you pay. The decor is not what you typically find in Humboldt County. This is by far the best bar experience I have had in Humboldt. The place was clean, the atmosphere was modern and accepting. The bartender was comical and helpful. I wasn't sure what to order so I just went with a Moscow Mule. The liquor selection is quite impressive. My drink was exceptional and I was able to enjoy it and actually have a audible conversation. On more than one occasion, I have seen one of the "bouncers" (short brown hair) who was currently working getting all sweaty and nasty with one of the drunk female customers on the dance floor. There was, probably still is, one short Latin bartender who hits on all the ladies that he serves, which I find repulsive since the customers don't appreciate the vulgar comments he makes. Pearl Lounge is definitely upscale... a good spot if you are planning a night out with friends and you want to do it up big. By big I mean dressing up and spending a lot of money, cause Pearl is not cheap. However, it has a nice atmosphere, and is unique for Eureka. I go to this place a lot but will never go back after tonight, the girl working, (claimed to be the general manager) wouldn't tell me her name. She has long red hair, she is 30 something, about 5'09" 140....anyway she I D'ed me right away and I'm 36, after one drink I asked for enouther and she said that because I had put my head down in my hands she wouldn't serve me, after one drink!, I was just thinking...as I've been through a lot resently ( many family members have passed away) and I think until you know a person and their situation you need to do your best to be respectful. anyway this girl is not down to earth, is not polite and should not be working customer service, I will never go back to this place again and that's a promise. read more

This is probably the nicest bar in Eureka, in terms of cleanliness and presentation. It's got a great location, right in the heart of Old Town, next door to Hurricane Kate's restaurant. One of the perks of their location is that you can order food from both Kate's and the neighboring Hotel Vance restaurant, called The Lobby, and they'll bring it to you in the bar. Crucial for those drunk munchies! The drinks are a touch over-priced, but you kinda expect it in a place that swanks it up like Pearl does. Don't know the bartenders' names, but the young brunette is very kind, struck up a conversation about the lack of manners in people these days, ha ha ha. The black-haired guy bartender is also very friendly. A little awkward at times, but very nice and amiable. I do plan on returning here. read more

Our favorite spot to go dancing. We enjoy the DJs and "Fuego" night. It was recently remodeled and connected to 511. Everything is shiny and new. Drinks are good and at reasonable prices. My only complaint is the bar tenders tend to be not the nicest around. If they were friendlier and smiled more and appeared to be having fun, we'd go more often. read more
